    Also, if you have the ability to make more videos, please do so because you are very good at making them without unnecessary blathering like many people do. You should also turn on the feature where people can pay you, because I would have been happy to send you a dollar for your information here. When people do good things and help other people they deserve to be payed. You saved me so much time and frustration here, so when people do that I like to send them a dollar or two and everyone else should do that too. Even if only quarter or half of us do that it is worth it for both you and the people you are helping. I’m subscribed now ❤😊

    Thank you so much for making this clear video. When I got my Janome sewing machine about 4 years ago, I made few shirts and the button hole was a pice of cake to make. Since then I’ve put the manual that came with it in a very good place where I can’t find it, so thank God for people like you that can make clear and very instructive videos about what ever needs to be done. I want you to know how much I appreciate you. And BTW I had made shirts for my husband and 4 years later he wants more of them, and yes therefore the button holes. I’m in the USA 🇺🇸 so wherever you are (I think in Britain 🇬🇧) lots of love and appreciation ❤

      Hi Jos - are you getting along any better now? let me know what's happening and I can try and help you out :) THe biggest problem is that you may not be using a double layer of fabric, just a single layer will get chewed up...

    • @JOS-xz9gt
      @JOS-xz9gt 4 роки тому +3

      Thanks for replying I feel special! I think maybe my buttonhole foot isn't a genuine jenome product or maybe the button is too big. When sowing the machine doesn't know when to stop or turn. So it ends up bunching up and getting stuck under the foot plate. 🙄 I'm going to try a smaller button to see if it helps.

    • @patchworkquiltingclassestv9084

      @@JOS-xz9gt ok:) so you need to make sure the button fits in the foot (0.50 in the video) and that you've pulled down the little black lever before you stitch (2.20 in the video)... otherwise it may be that you have a four-step foot - check out this video and see what you think ua-cam.com/video/tAfiKmC-vA8/v-deo.html

      I brought a cheap automatic presser foot supposedly janome compatible. In the end I spent 40 quid and purchased a proper Janome product and it worked perfectly 1st time.

    • @DrivingMaskina
      @DrivingMaskina Місяць тому

      @@JOS-xz9gtI have a habit of not buying anything cheap, because it usually either doesn’t work or has an inbuilt deletion in it. Few years ago I bought a food mixer, it was on the cheaper end but not the cheapest, in the $60.00 range. I used it 4 times over two years and after that time it was dead. How could it be dead as a door nail after 4 uses??? Yeah that’s why I never pay for the (usually) 2 year insurance on anything, because as soon as it runs out, the item becomes obsolete. Strange thing is, the gadgets work just fine up until then with or without the extra 2 year cover. What a waste we live in now.

    Thank you for the tutorial, found it very useful. I bought a Janome 525S some years ago and have only really just got going. In the manual on the buttonhole page it did not mention the 'Reset' bit so it took me a while to figure out why, when everything seemed set in place, it wouldn't do the same again for the next one. Once I Reset after each buttonhole, everything went well on the One-Step buttonhole.

    I'm glad so many people have found this helpful, but it hasn't worked for me. I have the automatic one-step button hole function (theoretically) And I've set it up so carefully. But it doesn't do what the video shows. First off, it doesn't do the straight stitch bit and then come back with the zigzag over it. Secondly, it does a very loose zigzag to start with then rattles off all on its own with a very tight zigzag up the same side - I think it would go on for ever if I didn't take my foot off the pedal. Or one time, it did the loose zigzag bit up on side, then came back down the other side with the loose zigzag and then, instead of doing the bar across, went bonkers with a tight zigzag just on the one side that again would have gone on for ever. So I haven't yet been able to get onto an actual garment. Think I'll go back to my 1968 Frister and Rossman with its 4 step button holes. But those are tricky too.

    • @patchworkquiltingclassestv9084
      @patchworkquiltingclassestv9084  Рік тому

      Oh dear, Coln that doesn't sound very good... it usually only keeps going if you haven't pulled that little black lever down, but I'm not sure about the other stitch problems... you have selected a buttonhole stitch haven't you? Otherwise I would say to take it along to your local sewing machine shop and have them look at it...

    • @patchworkquiltingclassestv9084
      @patchworkquiltingclassestv9084  2 роки тому

      probably - you just need to keep an eye on your markings and flick the lever on the left at the appropriate time... you'll need to do a few dummy runs, to see when that lever is moved by the attachment... eg when it gets to the back of the hole the attachment pushes the lever forward and the stitch changes and stitch direction changes... Good Luck :)

      Hiya, and thanks for watching:) You can just cut the thread - if you watch the machine it does a locking stitch at the end :)

    I'm doing a buttonhole for a 1 1/4 inch button . So cannot use the automatic sensor instructions. Do I use the buttonhole foot without a button in the same manner as with a button?

      Hi Joan:) It's all to do with that little black lever. Do a test buttonhole and watch how the foot flicks that black lever. You will still need to bring the lever down. but, you don't need the buttonhole foot, in fact, I would stitch without a foot, so that I can see where it is stitching... You will need to mark where the buttonhole needs to be, especially the ends, and flick the black lever manually.
      Set the machine to buttonhole stitch, then start. The machine will still go to the back, but when you can see it getting near the mark for the stitch, you need to flick that black lever forward - the machine will change direction and zigzag back down that side. When it gets to the mark at the other end, press the lever forward and the machine will do the bar stitch and go back up the other side of the marked hole. Keep an eye on it and when it gets to the other end, manually flick the lever forward again and it should bar tack and come down the second side to the front. Stop the machine when it gets there. I hope this helps:)
      I'd do a couple of samples first, so I know when to flick the lever... Good Luck:)
      Let me know how you get on x

    I'm trying to make a series of buttonholes on shoulder straps. Is there a technique keep the buttonhole dead in the middle and the buttonholes not to slope away to the left or right which has been happening. Maybe I'm not lining it up right and maybe the strap needs supporting at the back because it sews backwards is my initial thought. Thankyou. John.... I'm using a Janome automatic one step buttonhole the same as your video.

      Oh I've never tried that John, but yes it does sound like you need to guide it more.... I'd try on samples until you're satisfied with the results though 😉

    Thank you! I'm doing this the first time on my Janome, the right and left stitch density is low, the manual suggests to use stitch density of 1-2. So I tried 0.5, and the left side stitch density is alright while the right side density is low... Anyone knows why?

      Um - I never change mine, as I only ever use cotton fabrics for patchwork... tension is usually about 4 and stitch length you can change to what you want - I think mine comes on automatically at 2.2 :)

    thanks this was helpful. you said you push the start button, but don't show where or what the button is? Maybe my machine doesn't have it?

      Oh sorry, i have a stop/button on my machine instead of using the foot pedal... I think you just keep your foot on the pedal until it has finished :)

    I have the buttonhole foot and a janome machine, and when I put a button in it makes a perfectly good buttonhole, except the hole is always about 3 mm too big. Is there a way to fix that? Or should I possibly look into getting a new foot in hopes it will make a buttonhole the right size?

      Hi Doris, I've never heard of that before... have you a local sewing machine shop where you could ask? Otherwise I think its just case of hand sewing a stitch at one end.... maybe leave the thread a bit longer and use it to stitch the end together:)
