The Price of Watches - Buy These Watches To Beat The Market

- The price of watches seems to rise every day. Even used watches appear to gain value faster than most watch collectors can bargain for raises or save money. But it's possible to beat the market for watches from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Omega. Tonight, Tim Mosso discusses how to buy watches before prices go crazy.
Rolex watches typically command attention from buyers. Genuine "secrets" unnoticed by used watch markets are rare. But the Yacht-Master 2 in white gold (116689) is one example of a rare Rolex watch that costs less than it could. Although the white gold and platinum Yacht Master II was made from 2007 to 2022, its final dial was produced only from 2017 to 2022. That, and very few people bothered to buy the white gold model after the arrival of the stainless steel Yacht-Master in 2013. As a result, the final dial of the white gold model is the rarest Yacht Master 2 of all. Its market value of $40,000-$50,000 does not reflect its rarity.
The Rolex Cellini Moonphase (50535) arrived in 2017 to great acclaim. As the first Rolex moonphase watch since the 1950s, it brought new energy and attention to the Rolex Cellini line of dress watches. With a rose gold case, pointer date, and a moonphase disc made out of enamel and meteorite, there's no doubt the Cellini had grace.
But the Rolex Moonphase failed to hold the attention of Rolex buyers, and it was replaced by the Rolex Perpetual 1908 in 2023. That said, the Cellini Moonphase is a gorgeous watch whose market is developing only a year after the reference was discontinued. Used examples of the Cellini Moophase already command prices close to the original retail price of the watch. It hasn't caught fire or become a trendy collectible by any means, but a firm floor beneath prices and plenty of potential for rediscovery make this rare Rolex a real opportunity for collectors seeking to beat the market.
Tonight's episode includes all of these models plus watches from the following brands; Patek Philippe; Vacheron Constantin, Omega, Zenith, IWC, and Breguet.
All of this plus live discussion and watch collector wrist shots appears tonight on "Watches Tonight!"

Dude. These are some of the most special and rare but more importantly most beautiful watches I have seen !!
One needs a bigger budget after watching this show 😂
Thanks Tim and crew for showing us these gems 🙏🏽
My pleasure, Abdul. I'm always happy to know my longtime viewers enjoy my newest perspectives.
Best,
Tim
Another epic episode. This is when Tim’s unique set of skills, knowledge and thinking come together to deliver the very best content for all of us watch geeks. I would add to this list the limited edition Patek 5100 millenium watch. How do I know? Tim said it before.
Really nice job, Tim. Excellent content, and more excellent personal thoughts/perspectives. Thanks for your considerable and continuing efforts.
I do my best to balance the commercial necessities of my job and my personal perspective as a collector first and dealer second. Watches that offer good value below the radar allow me to do both.
Best,
Tim
I missed the live but of course I am watching, my favorite watch show, Tim knows how to share the passion
The Rolex Cellini Moonphase=Only modern substitute for those mid century complex Rolex's.
What a shame that they got no attention.
Honestly. The watch market is dying in a fast pace. The upper echelon is the only sustainable I guess. Rolex bubble is about to burst, but love you’re actually focusing on really nice pieces that are really beautiful.
I’m not sure there were many serious collectors back when I bought a couple my favorite watches- 76 GMT, MK11 Speedmaster, Zenith deLuca…
Always interesting Tim. 👍
Thank you for your kind feedback, Daniel!
Best,
Tim
Awesome show Tim, always finding these gems that no one talks about. That blue dial Patek 6000G is awesome, and also I was just recently wondering if Rolex ever made the WG YM2 with the updated hands & dial. Glad to know it's out there. Thanks for another great episode!
Thank you, James! Some day, we'll follow up with some JLC and early independents like Silberstein and Chronoswiss.
Best,
Tim
Breguet is beautiful, but u should also mention the flying tourbillon breguet 5357, specifically platinum version which is my favorite, its 39mm and a much better fit for most wrists vs a 3350 which is 35.9mm (hard to see it on a wrist above 6.5 inches), its tiny. Also, there is just something special about a flying tourbillon. The 3350´s have already been talked about for a few years now, I just think the 5357 is more appropriate size wise and interesting. The 5357 was made in much smaller quanitities than the 3350 which was made for a while. (From my personal research only 250-300 pieces of the 5357 were made across different metals).
Once I save up, that is the one I would get.
Thank you Tim & team
Thank you for watching!

A good friend bought a Ghibli back in 1971 and gave it to me to watch over while he was away. It had Weber carburetors and the don’t idle like n old Cadillac which really bugged him but they’d clean out at 140…
been loving the show for years and years. i wonder why everything is so fuzzy/soft even in 1080p. on purpose to have the picture clarity of a soap opera? i'd ask for 4k but i'd be very happy with a clear 1080p.
Outstanding show Tim!
Thank you, Herb!

Still have my Speedmaster 321 bought in 1967, pre-moon.
Great show as usual,
Thank you for these kind words!
Best,
Tim
I’m one of the few who like the YM2 but you’ve recently highlighted the Ulysse Nardin Regatta so I’m torn. What’s your choice? All the best
Omg. That iwc reminds me of that DeBethune I love so much. So nice.
Happy to see the IWC Tribute to Pallweber - I got mine from Watchbox! 😉
PS - it's also the most accurate watch I own, and the only one you can HEAR working in a quiet room 😄
Excellent choice! I'm quite jealous but happy to know it's an excellent timekeeper.
Best,
Tim
another great one tim!
Thank you for watching!
Best,
Tim
My buddy showed me that IWC…it was my favorite of his large collection!
It's incredible. I can't say the Zeitwerk is more satisfying to wear - just that it's FAR more expensive.
Best,
Tim
Great shirt and show Tim!
The shirt is an old favorite from the WuW era😉
Best,
Tim
That iwc gets me in the feels
When I buy watches again, watches like that will be what I buy.
Best,
Tim
The AP is awesome. Especially the MOP. I wonder if that turny thing on the case back digs into the wrist.
In my experience, it doesn't. I've worn it and the Omega tourbillon a few times.
Best,
Tim
@@1916company Thank you for your reply. Great content as always. It’s love discovering new beauties through your knowledge and curation 🙏
That’s a VC I gotta have!! More that the over seas!
Love the shirt collar caught under the jacket collar look.
Tim the 1960 Cadillac El Dorado is a much cleaner design. Check that one out.
@Tim, I actaully prefer the previous calibres from Patek in comparison to the new on which is some what contemporary and more muted. I do not agree with these Patek you are shining light on, they are great deals because they are not the lookers of Patek. Yes, collectors run to items that have been abandoned, it can be for the better or for the worse. I say for the worse in this case. The best bargains are sort of gone now and that is the 34mm calatravas with Breguet numerals and off set subdial with the micro rotor calibre 240ps
One of my favourite shows ever! I low-key hate it whenever anyone influential recommends the Neptune, because I want to pick one up in the next year or so, and I’m really hoping it doesn’t explode before then.
But can’t disagree with any of these suggestions! I’d never even seen the Audemars! Absolutely stunning - great example of why I watch this show!
💯
Had the Neptune marked for a while but fear it'll go before I get there
Man I looked at rhe movado blue 40 mm whatever it’s called. Integrated bracelet. It’s actually super cool. I like it. What yall think
The Breguet tourbillon can actually be bought new for 6 figures last time I checked their site
“Collection in my Recollection”
👍🏽👍🏽😂
I can't use the "Your watch in this box" line for much longer. So I needed some new material.
Best,
Tim
Tim noooo, breguet 3357 (slightly after 3350) has been my Grail for awhile... Please don't raise more attention to it!
Now that AP square torbillon is one AP I really like. Waaaay more than mainstream royal Oak.
dang, missed it again😢
Thanks for supporting the show any way you can!
Best,
Tim
So... Are the horses out of the barn now?
I doubt that. I play to a smaller crowd than most UA-cam watch channels.
Best,
Tim
Bro, crazy flip me out. I thought you were taking to me , I hate got done feeding the horses and chilling by with them for a minute. Haha. Nice. Then I come to check on my watch bro T-Mos
Is it just me or is the sound a bit more reverberant than usual?
The 59 Cadillac convertible is my dream car too. Took a pretty girl to prom in one I hired 20 years ago.
It’s always a great time to buy, when you’re a seller. 😉
But if I steer you away from my most expensive watch for a less expensive alternative, I'm at least being honest about value.
BEst,
Tim
