Forgive me if this has been suggested before, but I would find timestamps very helpful on these longer videos. Even just to get an idea of what is going to be discussed. Always enjoy seeing Jack on a video though! Hopefully more to come!
I've been on Tim about this RE: the weekend watch dump videos. Apparently there is a person that is supposed to do it but they are unable/unwilling to hold this person accountable when they frequently don't perform the task. So my thought is, your suggestion, however helpful, is an uphill climb.
Jack, welcome to Watchbox! This is so exciting to have you part of this fantastic team. Looking forward to more collaborations with Mike, Tim, Josh & co
Jack is a geek in the most complimentary sense! Could listen to his knowledge of watches and the watch industry for hours. Congratulations on adding Jack to the Watchbox team
Would have preferred Tim and Jack in this interview. George does a spectacular job at massaging the ego's of WatchBox's high end customers in the Collector Conversations...however notice how flat-footed he was at around 10:00 where Jack gently probed his thoughts on Harry Winston. I think Tim would be a better fit to riff with Jack.
36:33. It is at this point in the interview that every CEO/entrepreneur who cares about public communication should take note. This is an education. Solid gold.
Great conversation. The host was humble and didn't overpower Jack. And Jack is, well, Jack. One of the best orators and story tellers in the internet watch community. You guys really need to start making more content with him.
Jack is such an icon that when I read an article that he's written, I hear his actual voice as I read the text. I've been a member of PuristS and TZ for 20 years, but YT is where I come to get the dope on what's new and interesting. Great to see you here Jack.
This is so much better than to 1 to 2 minutes uploads Hodinkee is uploading lately. So glad to get a good long conversation with Jack. Not saying I dislike Hodinkee, I don’t. Just saying I miss older Hodinkee & this feels more like that did than current year over there.
Jack is so gracious and humble. He more than once has positive things to say about Hodinkee, a former employer and once says the interviewer is more qualified about a specific topic than he is.
His explanation of why he joined Watch box makes sense. You can't write about watches unless you have access to them. Hodinkee is changing to more of a lifestyle fashion type Business in my opinion .
Sir Jack is back. Kudos Watchbox for your newest team member who I feel is one if not the finest horological journalists in both print and digital media. Wishing both Watchbox and Sir Jack many happy years together delivering what they both do best!!! ☮️❤️🍾
Jack good luck on your new journey in this amazing watch hobbie and career, life style we chase. Great episode George, you two guys with Tim,Mike is going to be epic to years to came
Thank you for including us in this informative conversation! Great look into the industry. Watches as financial commodity is a different but unavoidable discussion as with any great art. Best regards.
Well said Mr Forrester, looking forward to seeing you interview and discuss horology with the watch community on video and hopefully you will continue to compose your notable written content in your new role
I think Watchbox is in good hands. I do have a question gentlemen, that Opus 1, it says 'piece unique'. Was there only a single Opus 1 made or was each one different and that's why they call it 'piece unique'?
18 were made, all slightly different, so they're all "unique." Six were based on the Octa, six on the resonance, and six on the tourbillon. No two are exactly alike. In general, the differences between the watches of the same base caliber are dial color and manner or extent of gem setting. Best, Tim
21:40 Mr. George Mayer explains to the viewer that he didn't like the Journe until it became hyped. "The more real it becomes the more desperate they want it" - Gordon Gekko
Ulysse Nardin did their silicon balance springs first and alone. Next there was a separate, joint industry research project between Patek Philippe, Rolex and the Swatch group which led to their silicon balance spring. These two initiatives were separate.
My guy couldn't memorise 30 seconds of intro to interview one of the most influential people in watches at the moment, bro spend more time preparing, it's embarrassing
James and Cole are the only one's left at Hodinkee now Jack has gone, not sure James will stick around for long, seems like it's gone from an organisation full of personalities that you felt you knew to a faceless organisation. Good luck to Jack.
Nice Resonance? Or Tourbillion? Grand Sonniere? On your wrist. I just got my first Journe. Elegante48 Titylite. Paid 3x msrp. Just would like the Blue Souveraine! I found out my Menlo College Tennis Teammate is Karim Ojjeh, who is FP’s friend! Haven’t seen him in 30yrs! And would not have known had not bought the 48! You think that might help with the Souveraine?
I'm watching the video about all these 'amazing' watches and when you said 'who wouldn't want a Jumbo ?' I couldn't shout ME loud enough. 99% of all the watches you discussed I think are HIDEOUS. I prefer subtle and classy sized watches.
So I recently bought the latest Hi-Beat Grand Seiko "White Birch" and while a beautiful watch, and well made, it consistently ran 20-30 seconds fast.. even after GS did a regulation on it.. there is a problem there. Meanwhile my new Rolex Sub and GMT are +/- 2 max... and my Omega 321 "Ed White" that I bought to replace the GS, is +6 .. with a 60 year old low beat movement.
Guilty. Went full-circle back to Rolex once but never again tbh. I don’t care for the new cases and compromised bracelet adjustability on Exp 1 and OP. Last but not least, they’re too flashy and petty.
Hey HODINKEE made me cringe. Here’s hoping WatchBox utilizes Jack for his horological chops rather than have him sell esoteric watches to wealthy and eccentric clients. Cheers
I didn’t think it was cringe, in fact I found it entertaining and educational in small bites. I’ll miss it. I like Jack a lot more than Ben. I haven’t seen too many Watchbix videos but so far I haven’t been impressed. A 38 minute video talking about one watch is overkill. It’s a watch for Christ sakes. I too hope they utilize Jack’s watchmaking chops, but I disagree that Hodinkee wasn’t.
I loved hey hodinkee. Probably the only series I watched on their channel. Week on the wrist turned into a paid ad, that was cringe to me. Talking watches kinda lost it's charm. Hey hodinkee was the best, dad jokes and all.
Why does George Mayer look like he’s on an episode of Hot Ones? Looks like he’s been eating a bunch of hot wings or something or like he’s got to shit hella bad and holding it in….
Providing Jack a platform to muse about everything watches is a real treat.
Well played WB, I am genuinely looking forward to see what’s next 👍

Now can we get more videos with Jack, please?
Jack being Jack. This was terrific.

Yeah but he can see the big picture too, and understands the customer perspective to. He is a very plecent personality type!

I could listen to Jack for hours more. Such a great interview.
Jack is a delight. Refreshing humility. A welcome trait at WatchBox where, ahem, performance, reigns strong.

Just going to state the obvious: Everything you did wrong with TGV, you're doing right with Jack.

What happened with TGV and WatchBox?

Jack is a legend, so pleased he has found his forever home
Great to see Jack is back!
Where did he go? He was pretty regular on Hodinkee wasn’t he?
Being someone that also works in the industry because of love for those toys...I just can say Jack's words gave me goosebumps (good ones obviously).
Amazing content. Just what we needed! More of this! Welcome to Watchbox Jack! I’ve been following you for a long time!
Jack's right. I was fortunate to be able to visit WB's HQ several times during the pandemic to view and handle many watches. Magical.
Legend. Could listen to Jack all day.
When i really got interested in Watches in The 1960s Jack no watch internet then ! just the local library ! Glad you have joined the best !
George´s FPJ Havanah looks spectacular on that strap. Never in my imagination would I have thought it would work but it really does!
It's funny how saying anything remotely meaningful or profound just completely eludes this Mayer fella.
😂

Wow nice sign up WatchBox, you just took from Hodinkee its best player. They f'ing up, U guys are winning. Now for the strong next step.
Jack is great as always. Shocked he left Hodinkee to do this type of work.
Why are you shocked? All of the original (and gen 2) Hodinkee staff are gone. SJP, Cara, Jon Bues, Joe Thompson and now Jack are all gone.
@@gyang333 I'm not shocked he left....I'm shocked he left to do this.
I guess we'll have to wait to see what he actually end up doing. I really enjoyed Hey Hodinkee and he seemed to have fun as well.

Hodinkee has been a lifestyle bs brand for snobs for years at this point.
The rabbit hole i didn't know i needed to fall into!
Any idea what brand Jack's glasses are?

@@the1916companywatchreviews Thats a long time. Might need a chrono.......
I'm waiting for a Mike & Jack video. Tell me that's coming soon!

Cole is gone. Works at Tudor now.
Opus dial is cracked. I'm wondering if that Is that is repairable?
I ❤ Journe. GOAT!
Jack feels so nostalgic about the ‘Dink. Really don’t know how he will fit at the WB.
I appreciate Jack's explanation and description of how silicon hairsprings are produced; and now I like them even less, heh.

Jack should write a book
So... no forcing RM reviews on Jack, please. Last one he did on Hodinkee, he got out of there.
Take a breather, man.
Funny that Mr. Forster hardly gets time to make his statements. Thats not what I call "discussion"...
So glad Jack moved on from Hodinkee, place is going down hill fast.
Love Jack Forster, the only good thing that came out of Hodinkee as far as I’m concerned.
Jack will beef things up a lot. They rely on Tim Mosso so much.
Some stale talking points here, but that's not Jack's fault. Still glad he's part of the box now.
Great video! But why are they drinking their own urine?
😆
I thought those were all of Jack's watches and I was really confused about how much Hodinkee was paying him lol.
Employee No.6, the artist formerly known as Jack Forster
Does anyone know what watch George Mayer is wearing?
I'm 99% sure it's a F.P. Journe Classique Automatique Lune 2 with a Havana dial in Rose Gold but it's hard to tell.
Thanks@@heeroy7
Watches are best experienced in person
You guys have to start doing time stamps if your going to make a 39 minute video. Won’t circle back to this until I see it’s changed.
Check the description bud 🤣

That table is just slightly too high...or the chairs too low...
Hodinkee is dead. Let's go Jack!
No watch on the wrist, Jack? I understand if the President is too strongly associated with Hodinkee, but why not the Tank?
