I love the mindset of giving the opportunity to somebody else to own such beautiful pieces! I would buy the grand chime tomorrow if I had the cash for it!
He’s most famous for playing characters in the movies who are especially inarticulate, so a lot of people might not know what a thoughtful and intelligent man he is. For a treat, watch one of his movies that has one of his behind the scenes commentary tracks. He’s very funny and has a genius for movie making.
Mr. Stallone is incredibly erudite in this interview. He explains horology so beautifully. He understands the details of watch collecting without losing sight of the big picture. This is a man who deserves all of his success. Great interview!
You are being sarcastic right? I hope so. He said absolutely nothing that couldnt be said or that wouldnt be said by an "everyday" watch wearer! He gave no insight on how any of the movements work, didnt go into detail about anything really. So i dont think your comment is accurate. Sly is def a cool guy and deserves everything he has. But your comment is horseshit
No sarcasm at all. You're right about the notion that he used simple statements to explain the hobby of collecting. The interview did lack the fundamental details of how the machine works. But there is no need to do that. It's a somewhat emotional interview about watch collecting. We don't need to bring the physics and mathematics into play regarding exactly how each complication works. There are plenty of certified master licensed watchmakers that do that. Maybe my comment was slightly over the top. But try to remember what the title of the video is. It essentially deals with the joys, pleasures and appreciation in collecting these complex machines that take years to design and produce. Again, he really is a smart and talented nice person deserving his success. At least we agree on that.
An absolute legend and truly inspiring gentleman. That Day-date is indeed PURE CLASS. In bocca al Lupo for the auction, grazie signore Stallone!!! 🙏🙏🙏 Best regards, TGV
@theurbangentry Long time fan of your channel. I got my RG DayDate a while back and made a video on my channel. It’s my favourite and even surpasses a few of my Patek’s in that regard.
I am really glad to see this bit of documentary recorded and made public. The world of high craft watches is a commentary on Human achievement. Plenty of science fiction novels allude to this level of craftsmanship; and here we have examples of our time.
I’m a watch guy myself and I’ve been lucky enough to own some really nice watches but nothing on the level of Sly’s collection but then again not many of us will ever get close to his collection. If these are what he’s selling can you even imagine what he’s kept? I bet it’s awe inspiring. The Patek Grand Master is definitely the pinnacle, however I recently acquired my W serial Rolex Sea Dweller and it’s a really minty example and I feel blessed to be able to have something so frivolous in nature. My 9 year old wears a little digital watch and like Sly said, we both have the exact same time keeping ability, however every morning when I put my Sea Dweller on it makes me feel special. That’s why I like my Rolex watches, they make me feel special.
@@billmoyer3254 Nobody cares is not the same as you don't care. Sly selling his watches was a big deal in the watch community. Not gadgets as much as art.
Sly will always be an Icon from my childhood. So many great movies, so many great memories. I grew up with this badass, Rocky, Rambo, Dread, Cobra and so many others. I hope he know how much he shaped us boys, and how much we loved him back in the day. Its unfortunate that commoners like myself could never get one of Sly's watches. They will go to rich collectors who will pass them off in years to come for bigger profits. It would be a beautiful thing to have some go to the regular people, fans and people who loved the movies, who would truly treasure a piece of their childhood to pass on to their kids.

An appropriate truth also is…. No object can satisfy the human heart over time. (Aka “the eyes of man are never satisfied!” Proverbs 27:20.) Still, Love Stallone ! Not pretentious. Tells you exactly why he bought his watches. Up front and personal. Beautiful guy. Thanks Sly! Thanks for the moments of joyful escapism you gave us throughout the years.
Correct. Sly understands that the key to happiness isn't owning rare expensive watches. For those who collect watches...great! I enjoy watching luxury watch videos, yet I only own one of those watches because it was given to me. There is no real value to them other than they are coveted or rare. But they are facinating. I have no desire to buy one.
I’m not a wealthy person, but I’ve always told myself if I was lucky enough to stumble upon a lot of wealth, I wouldn’t spend my money on material items…. And I really believe that due to the fact that I’m a simple person, and really enjoy being a simple person…
It's wonderful to see Stallone kept his watch in a bag. Any other would have wear it around parties and interviews. It goes to show how much he treasures it, not just owning it, but loving it.
Sly is a huge influence on my journey to watch collecting than any other person because he wore and made them part of his journey in life, not mention he made them look cool. So thanks Sly and great collection indeed.
I understand what Sly’s saying at some point in your life you feel the need to share the things that made you happy and you know it’s time to let go and let somebody else enjoy it seems to be the case he’s there now and he’s sensible enough to recognize the time, I respect him more now.
Registered to bid and cannot wait. Thanks to Mr Stallone for sharing these. As a huge fan and fellow watch enthusiast what an absolute honour to be able to participate.
He really does have the best watch of our generation, but.. The creators being Patek Philippe wanted the watch to be owned by a distinguished individual, and for him to sell it feels like a disservice to the watch and its purpose.
After putting so much effort into the acquisition of that Patek, with Patek accepting him and personalising it, why does he not simply bequeath it to a family member.
i cannot wrap my head around it, like one of most complicated expensive watches ever made and you have to beg people to be able to purchase it just to never even take it out of the plastic lol cant even "admire it", you cant see the watch from the plastic. waste of space
These watches should only go to collectors (not flippers!) who truly admires and are really into watches, I doubt any of his family members are into watches like he does. I mean, I would have auction it off too if I notice my children are wearing Apple watches as their daily drivers and has no passion whatsoever about watches
Probably because his other family members aren’t enthusiasts and don’t appreciate them the way he and many others do? 🤷♂️ He would probably rather see them go to people that value them beyond their price tags and at the same time, see how much they’ve appreciated with time, exclusivity and celebrity history attached. 👍
Hi Mr. Stallone, I own a Timex watch that does nothing else other than telling the time. Oh, it has Indiglo which allows you to see the time in the dark. I wear it whenever I leave my home. I often dreamed of having a nice watch (something in the $200 range), but if you would like to have my watch, I wouldn't mind passing it on to you to enjoy. You could wear this watch and when people see it on your wrist they would think "Oh, that's not Sly, the guy wearing that Timex is broke". 😂
It is very impressive to witness Mr Stallone's multiple gifts and talents! He is an excellent conversationalist, and did a fantastic job presenting such a unique collection
Great video. I love the analogy Sly gives at the beginning about the guy with the cheap watch saying his watch tells the same time as Sly's very expensive watch. Sly goes on to say that watch collecting for him has not been about a watch's ability to tell the time, rather the way each watch marks a time in his life and his watch collecting journey. Such a salient point; I've always taken joy in my modest collection and thought about them in the same manner. It's the emotion and backstory that goes with each watch.
Sad to see a Grandmaster Chime not even removed from the bag. Watches are meant to be worn, even a 2-3 million dollar watch. Fact he wanted to keep it in the bag shows that maximizing value and flipping was his only aim. I would say the fact its still in the wrapper tells me its not a Sylvester Stallone watch because he never even wore it. Might has well rip that name tag off the box. Hopefully the new owner at least gets it out of the stupid bag.
It never belonged to him, just like it never belonged to the auctioneer. They just held it until its real owner own day would make use of it. Makes him look quite money seeking - opposite of true wealth the watch is meant to represent
I cant imagine how sad the watchmaker(s) is that made this.Probably the crowning point in their career, and never running, never taken out of the horrible plastic bag. What a waste. I once heard "never spend more than a months salary on a watch, and never buy a watch you wont wear". Good advice, even for very very rich people.
Sly has two of the brands in the holy trinity. He also has the holy grail of PP. While I'm throwing around religious terms, he has also violated the first two commandments of PP. The first commandment states: Thou shalt not possess a Patek, only to be unworn and tucked away. The second commandment violated is: Thou shalt not flippith a Patek.
PP does not call the shots. Stallone those…..get real folks. Money and connections talk and Stallone can get anything his heart desires! You are seeing real power and wealth before your eyes in action. Nothing more to say. This is just how the world works unfortunately.
I just bought an Omega Planet Ocean; I know what he means when he says it gives you a sense of accomplishment. I'll never be able to afford any of the watches in Mr. Stallone's collection, but I feel kindred friendship with Mr. Stallone through watch collecting!
Many people think this man is not very clever / intelligent, I beg the differ. Mr. Stallone is classy, very articulated and intelligent. Loved the anecdote's.
Blue dial, Rose gold AP: 😍 But also, that final Patek - “admiring” it thru crappy plastic seems nonsensical (in terms of truly enjoying). But I get what it means for the value of the watch.
Judging by his comment that fine watches are about “keeping step with where you are in life” he admires it on a deeper level, almost metaphorically. So in that case the plastic is irrelevant.
I did not imagine this man out of all people would've have such nuanced, classy and subdued taste in watches. I imagined he would be rocking massive macho He's SO different than his on-screen characters!!!
I doubt he “needs” the money. These watches are a small portion of his collection - but I also agree, you’d think he would send that Cartier back to them for their museum, since they gave it to him. I get it, he’s 70 years old. I’m in my early 50s and have started consolidating my watch collection - mostly because I don’t want them (the watches) to be a burden to my family if something should happen to me. At least I can sell some of them now, and make sure I am getting fair prices - rather than my wife get ripped off by some shark after I’m gone.
@@porschefanatic1049 ok. Makes sense. There have been a few other recent Watch sales due to divorce recently. Russel Crowe, is one that comes to mind too.
@emiljimenez803 i think after 5 years you wont get ban. after that, you still can buy PP model, but no the same model that you sold. that 5 years gestation/blackout period is to prevent flippers.
I think it largely depends on how you approach the sale. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sylvester Stallone approached Patek to let them know he would be selling the watch and sort of asked for permission/forgiveness. Maybe he's fallen out of love with the piece, maybe he needs the money. There's lots of reasonable explanations for selling this watch but the process should be handled delicately and with respect. The above is a far cry from flipping the watch within months of buying it and not informing Patek that you're looking to let go of it for xyz reason. Person A is probably deprioritised as a client, no longer given access to the most sought after Patek's, but not banned and might have the chance to gain access to the more sought after pieces in the coming years. Person B is banned for life with no opportunity for redemption.

When he said "You've cost me a fortune" when recalling an old story at 4:50 I was thinking actually he's going to make a ton more money cause all those watches are even more expensive today and because of the stories now attached to them. Amazing collection especially that first Patek.

I understand his passion for watches. I have a watch collection. None cost me over $100 delivered, brand new or used I am not envious of the person who has the $200,000 watch. Today I am wearing a Bertucci field watch with a material strap. Most days I wear a much used Wenger military watch on a Spidell twist-a-flex metal band. Last December, I purchased a minimalist Bulova corporate watch that I had wanted for years - about $80. I give new watches as gifts. Last year, three to graduating students. I went to an adult birthday party in March. The other three people wore Rollex. They loves their watches. They know I work on watches and could afford to buy a few Rollex. It is just that I like different categories. Like the better part of the collection are 1960-1980 restored quartz gold watches with new leather bands.
That will be a genuine regret in his life to have toiled and begged and pleaded to eventually be granted the privilege of owning the rarest most coveted watch of all time to then only see it, touch it and experience it through a 5p plastic bag. No point in owning it at all. If this is enjoying something then I’m doing it wrong. I would’ve loved to hear about him wearing this on the beach and on set and banging it around - now that is enjoying something, he can absolutely afford it. Come on Sly, you’re better than this bud.
@@aimz-_-skilzz-_8488 I hear you but you miss my point. Pass on by all means but enjoy the thing, don’t keep it in a plastic bag like a stick of salami, especially with his wealth. In fact I’d say any wear and tear inflicted on it by him may even increase its worth!
8:00 This is why I can't stand junkie collectors. I understand that a wealthy watch collector would want to get his hands on a very expensive and exclusive watch. Why would Stallone spend millions of dollars on "the most complicated wristwatch ever made" only to literally keep it inside a ziplok bag inside of a wooden box, never to be worn, never to be marred by disgusting human fingerprints, never to even be looked uponst by disgusting human eyeballs for years until he resells it to some other rich collector, so the untouched sealed away boxed away watch can spend another 30 years sitting in a dark closet? I’m sure he cares much about what they think, he made a cool $2.5m
Patek Phillippe should pull a Hertz - report the watch and stolen and go repossess it from the person who bought it 😂
It's nice to see someone celebrate their own success publicly and not shy away from it. More people should be happy for the wealthy and strive to improve themselves.
Most are too busy finding fault or criticizing other's successes to improve themselves.
Absolute legend, dream watch collection. What I particularly appreciate (being a watch collector and a watch enthusiast myself) is the fact that he is ready and able to let go of things. I love the mindset of giving the opportunity to somebody else to own such beautiful pieces! I would buy the grand chime tomorrow if I had the cash for it!
Keep collecting them Temu watch’s lol
He's not 'giving' them to someone else to enjoy. He's selling them for a sizeable profit.
The real value here is Mr Stallone's great attitude to life, there is a lot to take away, the watches are pretty cool too.
An absolute legend and truly inspiring gentleman. That Day-date is indeed PURE CLASS. In bocca al Lupo for the auction, grazie signore Stallone!!! 🙏🙏🙏

That’s why I like my Rolex watches, they make me feel special.
nobody cares, but enjoy your gadgets!
@@billmoyer3254 Nobody cares is not the same as you don't care. Sly selling his watches was a big deal in the watch community. Not gadgets as much as art.
I’ve always liked Sylvester Stallone, growing up in his era and enjoying his hit movies as a kid was simply remarkable and enjoyable.
Classy dude all the way!
Your closet is simple a dream! Not just the *gtdupe* bags but the ready to wear that you have is absolutely stunning.
Man, this showcase is the best of its kind. Thank you for this absolute beauty.
Glad you enjoy it!

Still, Love Stallone !
He sold it 😂

Sly is a huge influence on my journey to watch collecting than any other person because he wore and made them part of his journey in life, not mention he made them look cool. So thanks Sly and great collection indeed.
sly and arnie were my 80's!! the fact that he's a serious watch collector just makes him even more cooler
I understand what Sly’s saying at some point in your life you feel the need to share the things that made you happy and you know it’s time to let go and let somebody else enjoy it seems to be the case he’s there now and he’s sensible enough to recognize the time, I respect him more now.
No matter how many watches he owns, his Panerai will always be cemented with Sylvester Stallone's legacy 👊
Still can't wrap my head around how he can sell any of the Panerai. Not to mention the Patek
😂

best quote "it's not about keeping time, it's about keeping in step with where you are in life."
Sly is so important to me. From never giving up to his bull mastiff in Rocky. HERO
After putting so much effort into the acquisition of that Patek, with Patek accepting him and personalising it, why does he not simply bequeath it to a family member.
i cannot wrap my head around it, like one of most complicated expensive watches ever made and you have to beg people to be able to purchase it just to never even take it out of the plastic lol
cant even "admire it", you cant see the watch from the plastic. waste of space
Maybe they are not watch people. It looses all the value when you dont care about it. He will probably fund something more meaningful with that money.
He has only daughters who care about dresses not watches for men
These watches should only go to collectors (not flippers!) who truly admires and are really into watches, I doubt any of his family members are into watches like he does.
The eyebrows of his advisor are the true work of art
OMG, what a collection Mr. Stallone owns. Beautiful watches and a wonderful man.
Indeed...and those are just the watches he's willing to sell from his collection.
Couldn't agree more!
“I don’t know why I’m selling it” Me either Sly, Me either! 😂😂😂 As a long time Horology Enthusiast I can’t figure it out either.
Yup - especially his grandfather's watch😢 what about legacy for your kids does no one care about that anymore
@@errhka What are you talking about lmao this is a fraction of his collection.
Its facinating someone as accomplished as Stallone would need a watch to feel like "he's arrived".
Sad to say. But that watch will never come out of that bag.

Why would you sell the Cartier that you got from the CEO ,don’t get it ,but some lovely timepieces 👍❤️🏴

Simple answer: it’s not that important to him
Does selling the 6300 get you ban from ADs?
I think so! If I would be one of the Sterns I would ban him to by any Patek after this.
He is getting old and probably wanted the watch to go to another collector that would cherish it like he did.
It depends. Depends on who you are.
I guess Patek will be not very happy with this.... maybe they will put him on the black list.
Doubt he cares, I think his main focus is collecting Rolex more than any other brand
I'm sure he was getting free watches from some other company before Patek and will likely do the same now.

I’ve always loved Sylvester Stallone. Even through the movies you can still see his good character.
Agree.
He's 78 years old, it's a better time to sell than to die and have this collection fall into the wrong hands.
It's ugly anyway
This is the height of useless, decadent luxury for its own sake. At least wear the goddamn thing even ONCE. Wear it to a movie premiere, wear it to a wedding, do ANYTHING with it except treat it like an untouchable glowing rod of uranium. Sell it to a museum or something so that someone, anyone at all can gain some kind of enjoyment and knowledge out of the damn thing.
Agree he never owned it, he just passed it along
