  • I'm going through all the simple checks to see if the problem this vw is having is due to a bad solenoid. So far I have changed the oil to see if that would fix the issue, but so far is has not. I have also drained the fluid, changed one of the solenoids due to a broken tab for the connector and refill the oil after testing them with the battery, but the issue still persists. Unfortunately I didn't test the resistance the first time around because it didn't cross my mind at the time. So I may have to go through the process again and maybe change a few more of them with the spares I have to see if that works, assuming I don't get a difference in resistance when I go back in there.

You need to test them when warm/hot as well, using a heat gun to heat up the solenoids to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, which is normal operating temp-erature for both ohmsresistance, as we'll as for operation by applying 12volts to them when hot to see if they still open and close.

Yes you are correct. I have another video where I used the stove to test them at the higher temps.

Most people just buy the whole kit with most of the solenoids in the kit since they fail frequently. I was looking for ohm test so, thanks.

You're welcome. I did end up buying a whole new set of them, eventually.

Did the whole new set fix the problem?

@@autumnholder776 It helped but I still had to make the solenoid adjustments. At least the car is now drivable.

Ive got one that wont go past 4th. Then goes into limp. I suspect its a solenoid.

If your oil is not leaking and everything is working normal it's worth testing them since it's going to limp mode. If oil is leaking that will put it in limp mode to protect the transmission. If that is not the case it could be a solenoid. The last thing would be your clutches if it's slipping. Not much else in there really besides the wiring and sensors.

@@myshots101 yeah. Agreed. Not slipping or leaking it just is like neutral when it tries to go into 4. Was fine and all the sudden it just did that. Probably stuck or failed solenoid.
