Actually, you got the history wrong. Whoever told you that was mistaken. You need to look it up. Beretta got a contract to make the 92 for the Brazilian army and when the contract was up they sold their factory, machinery, and the plans etc. to Taurus, who then began to make their own version of the 92 on the same machinery with the same tools Beretta had used. Beretta did not contract with Taurus to make the 92.
Beretta made frame safely because it was required by the Brazilian military it wasnt a Taurus design, Beretta moved away from that feature when the contract was up, so it didn't hurt to sale the tooling along with the factory, Beretta literally just walked away and left everything even the employees and supplies so the first few runs might was well be 99.9 Beretta quality with the exception of the Taurus name change, the trigger gard and other features didn't change till way later
I have the PT92 AF-D model. Had the gun now for about 5 years and would not trade it for the world. The reason for that is that after owning it for a year I pulled the box out and found that it was made on my wife's birth date . A real keeper, both of them.
The Taurus PT 92 is the best, most tested product they produce. I love the frame decocker system a bit more than the Beretta 92. I like the matte finish on this baby.
As a Brazilian and owner of a Beretta 92fs, the more noticeable differences in terms of quality are fit and finish. When I shake a loaded Taurus PT92, there's a rattle while nothing can be heard when I shake the Beretta. The Beretta finish looks so much better looking up close. But still, the PT92 is a great reliable gun, has more capacity, picatinny rail, the frame mounted safety and the biggest advantage wich is the price. I want to get one as a beater since my Beretta is my baby 😄
@Teko Moku As far as PT92s made over the last 10 years or so, the biggest things I've seen quality wise on the PT92 that haven't been great are the grip screws, I've seen a handful of them that had either completely stripped screws out of the box, or nearly stripped ones. Kind of a silly issue, when most of the rest of the gun seems reasonably solid. I know they can be replaced, but it's kind of a pain when the "V" shaped safety spring underneath the left side grip flies out because the grip came loose. I also had a locking block shatter in under 200 rounds, and also one gun that randomly would de-cock itself while I was firing it, but probably those things are rare anomalies, compared to the general crappiness of the grip screws. For what it's worth, I like the Taurus design better, I just wish they'd clean up a little bit of the more minor issues sometimes seen on these guns.
@altortugas5979 you are absolutely right. Also to add to that all you have to do is cock it. With one in the chamber you will hear no rattle whatsoever I guarantee that. So no, the gun does not rattle
@@danielgreen6547 Yeah i have one and the grip screws on it love to rust and are extremely soft. Last time I did a deep clean of the gun the safety spring flew out and i lost it for 2 hours. Other than that I've never had a malfunction and the thing is nice and accurate.
I bought my PT92 after i bought my Taurus made Rossi 92. Both guns are 100% reliable and verry well made for the money. Im from Germany and guns are verry expensiv here. A Beretta 92fs is about 1200€. I paid 650€ for my PT92 with rail. Best wishes.
I had the Taurus PT92 an older model than this i got mine in 1995 used, it didn't have the Hammer Release button if you wanted to bring the hammer back down you had to hold the hammer with your thumb and than pull the trigger to release it slowly down.. But all in it's the same gun easy to clean the most Accurate Handgun i owned, i could hit a dime 100 yards away no problem with that gun, because of the 5 " barrel it's so accurate.. Probably the best Handgun combat ready i have ever seen, If i had to get into a gun fight (Which i which i always try to avoid) LOL i would choose this gun hands down it's also got a bit more weight than most Glock's it has a lot less recoil, i loved the way the gun was balanced made it so easy to fire very rapidly with accuracy... You can get one used for as low as $400.00..
It is a Beretta! You're correct! Just like all AR15s are made by 3 plants here in America. They are all made in 3 plants, they just come out with different company logos and different bells and whistles. Just like the tool world Milwaukee, Rigid, Ryobi, and Hart are made by TTI. It's the same in the reptile community with products that cost an arm and leg, but you can get the same stuff at a hardware store for 100s cheaper
I really, really appreciate this review. It’s sure not a new kid on the block by any means, but this is still one of the most informative, demonstrative video reviews I’ve seen of the PT92. Thanks!!
I just noticed that the safety is now ambidextrous, I don’t like that, mine wasn’t like that, just my opinion tho, But still better than slide mounted lol
this is a military used hand gun used in the military police of brazil for over 40 years. Tried and tested, awesome gun, proud owner of a stainless steel I bought 3 months ago. Recoil doesnt even exist.
This pistol from Taurus is definitely one to get. I actually own two of them. I got my dad's Taurus PT99 which is the PT92 but with adjustable rear sight. And he got that back in March of 1990. And as far as I can remember there was never any major or basically any minor problems with it except for some reloads my dad made. But that's because the casing weren't reshaped properly. And it shoots real nice just like I remember when I was a kid. So I got me a more modern version with the pic rail and it also shoots like a champ. You'll get zero complaints from me on this particular Taurus. More than likely I will end up passing them on to my son in about 30 years God willing.
I have one that was made in 1987 with a parkerized finish and only a thumb safety. It is still a beauty. Taurus added the hammer drop capability in the mid 1990's. Also have had a PT99 that has adjustable sights and a PT917 which is a 4 inch barrel with a full size frame. I miss my old PT101 which was a 40SW version that was discontinued years ago.
This is a proper review. I personally would like to see a complete take down of the frame components as well as the slide. Your explanation and advice won my sub. I've been considering taurus 92 and 1911. This one looks good.
Taurus sells a holster for this at a nice price point. Does anyone know for sure if an actual Beretta M9 would fit? Would the safety placement cause an issue? I emailed Taurus and they said “we do not have any knowledge about any other gun companies and if they are compatible with our holsters”
09:59 You can disassemble a PT92/PT100 "Jet Li style". I doubt anyone has done this in a real situation, but it definitely can be done. We did this in the early 90s with an UNLOADED gun held firmly by my friend, I could grasp the slide with my left hand. Index Finger pushes the button & thumb rotates disassembly lever downward & pull slide & barrel back off the frame. We switched & my friend could do it too. Not nearly the speed it was done in the movie & you'd have to grip the slide exactly where you could push that button & actuate that lever. It only worked with left hand, right handed couldn't drop the lever.
My favorite pistol. I'm glad to see the PT92 finally getting respect; reviews have been rare until recently! Back in the day, Beretta won a contract to provide pistols to the Brazilian military. Like the US, Brazil wanted guns make locally so Beretta built a factory. When the contract was fulfilled, the factory was sold to Taurus. I actually have one of those early PT92s, and it's identical to the contemporary Beretta. Over the years, each company refined their pistols in slightly different ways, but some parts (recoil springs and locking blocks) still interchange. I also have an early '90s PT92 with the hammer-drop safety, and prefer it to the Beretta. WATCHING your review, I'm getting the itch to get a current-production pistol!
The 92-AF D is an outstanding pistol. The Taurus magazines are terrible, replace them With Mec-Gar mags unless you prefer your pistol to sound like a baby rattle.
I like it. I have the Taurus 1911 with a rail chambered in .45, and that thing has ran EVERYTHING I put through it. Taurus isn't doing too bad. That 92 I feel like I would enjoy. It looks sharp.
I had a beautiful stainless PT92. I sent it back to the factory and had them make the magazine release extra hard. I’ve got a thing with fear of an accidental mag drop. I spent some time in Scotland as a kid when The Troubles were going on just across the water. Look up The Corporal Killings. That is why I like a tight mag release.
They don't hire Taurus to build for them. They sold to Taurus their factory, blueprints.... Taurus had no relationship with Beretta until they left Brazil... (Well this is the story that is told here in Brazil) My first gun was one pt58 and after that one pt938 ( From same project but 9mm was restricted here until 2019 ). Awesome guns!, Really Reliable and accurate. Nice acquisition !
I am the owner of a Beretta 92fs 9mm that I bought waaay back in 1988 (After I saw Die Hard) 😆 If you know anything about Berettas, you know Riggs had a Beretta 92f in Lethal Weapon and Bruce Willis had the Beretta 92fs 🙂 So with that being said, the Taurus PT92 THEORETICALLY is not a Beretta. Is it a good gun? Yes. But does it have the same value of a Beretta? No. And that's what separates the two.
I have a few Taurus handguns including one 357/38 revolver, the Taurus tracker. I like Taurus, especially their newer models. I'll have to see if my local gun shop has one of these, thanks for the video.
Taurus did not change the safety. Original Beretta 92’s and Taurus 92’s were identical. Beretta eventually adopted the slide mounted safety, abandoning the old seer blocking, frame mounted safety that Taurus has maintained on their Model 92’s to this day. Taurus has changed the finish several times over the years, added a rail, and made the safety ambidextrous as well. Taurus was also quite innovative with having a decocker on their model 92 while still having essentially the same style of safety mechanism. Great video!
I have the problem 99 version i think is the model number the only difference is adjustable rear sight was the first handgun i ever bought new it's 30 years old and never had a problem i own a beretta but the thing i like about the Taurus is you can carry it cooked and locked and the safety is in the same place as my 1911s the only thing about it is it doesn't like to feed certain hollow points
I've got the exact same pt99 I inherited from my dad. And the only rounds that I remember having a problem with were some reloads my dad made. But that was dad error not the gun. Other than that no complaints from me. I even bought me another one around the time of the Great Toilet Paper shortage of 2020. Stocked up on a bunch of 9mm also instead of the TP.
No. Beretta factory in Brazil was 100% Beretta. Beretta factory in Brazil was sold to Taurus with production rights for the 92,the tiny mouse guns and the smg; before 1983, not much, but before 1983. The 32 ACP version of rhe 92 was released in the early weeks of 1983. Yes, was a huge 92 firing 32 ACP.
My sister just got an m9 not too long ago and she wanted me to show her how to clean it. Well, i ended up doing more than that because the grip didn't clear the mag release and was binding it up making it hard to drop a mag. Easy fix. I just removed the grip and used a dremel drum sander to clearance it. After, it was better but still garbage even with working lube in. The grip doesn't have clearance for your thumb as you press the release so you pretty much have to use the very tip of your thumb to press it. If that wasn't enough, the guide rod is plastic. Yeah, plastic. Unbelievable.
The beretta m9 was always my dream gun. Always. Finally went up to the gun store yesterday and saw they had a M9A2 for a few hundred dollars more than this PT92-ASF. *I actually picked up the 92 and was genuinely confused why it said Taurus on the side and so was Everyone else who was with me* I learned the history about the gun right then and there by researching and turns out it's basically the same gun 😂 just with a different name. I know it's not the literal *M9* but at the same time it basically is. And the satisfaction of having an M9 as my first gun feels so good. Since I was a kid I've always planned on that being my first gun. And it looks and feels so much better than I anticipated!! I of course got a lot of crap from some people on Reddit because "Ew TaUruS" and that's from people who were purely elitist or had no idea about the history of the gun(again, it's literally a M9 with a different name) If anyone is on the fence about this, get it. You won't be disappointed. And if you don't want to take my word, you have a crap ton of videos and articles over the PT92. With some even considering it to be one of the most underrated pistols at least here in America
Cool history behind em. I didnt know that. Back in the 80s i had one but like a dummy i sold it. And regretted every sense I picked one up yesterday and took it out shooting today. These pistols are crazt accurate. Morr than my glock. Theres just something about them thats just straight up right. I had to get anotherone before out so called leaders ban them to 10 rnd mags. I baught 1 more 17 rnd mag for mine today which cost me $40. But i have 3 now. Thanks for the history lesson now i like it even more haha. Best damn review of this pistol i seen on YT.
I'm a fan of Ruger but am not a huge fan of the Ruger American, not that Its not good, it's just ugly as fuck, but I'd still get a Ruger, American company and all, not super important but to some it is
the PT92 is based on the original design one of its best selling item is the frame mounted safety 16 pound hammer spring will give a better trigger pull the girsan version of the beretta performance model the gen 4 runs about 540 dollars
Quick question: my dad wants a compact conceal carry handgun. He's on a budget, about $425 at most. What should he get? Any caliber, and it can be a revolver, Glock style, or 1911. Thanks!
there are no differences between the Beretta 92 and the Taurus PT92, only a few cosmetic changes here and there. They have the same machining process and components, you only pay more for a Beretta because of the name. Taurus parts are done by the same Beretta machines that were bought after the contract for law enforcement ended in Sao Paulo, Brazil 1980.
The one they made back in the day is probably the worst gun I've ever used. Me and my brother both got our hands cut up while racking, the controls sucked, the accuracy sucked, the trigger felt like squeezing dense foam,... Don't remember it ever jamming though.
taurus and original beretta had frame mounted safety beretta created the slide safety on the slide taurus advanced there safety to a frame mounted safety decocker
i like that safety a lot more on this one. not so sure about reliability yet. i would assume these are just as good because they were built when people made guns and not plastic lol (kidding)
Actually, you got the history wrong. Whoever told you that was mistaken. You need to look it up. I have a 30 year old and a 1 year old. Identical performance but I really would like a true bluing on the new one. Such nice, sexy guns.
Cool history behind em. I didnt know that.
Back in the 80s i had one but like a dummy i sold it. And regretted every sense
I picked one up yesterday and took it out shooting today.
My friend we are all guilty of selling cool stuff when we were younger but we learn and when we got older at least for me I buy now and don't sell
The original Beretta 92 also had a frame mounted safety.
Between this and ruger american which is best SHTF pistol?
I'm a fan of Ruger but am not a huge fan of the Ruger American, not that Its not good, it's just ugly as fuck, but I'd still get a Ruger, American company and all, not super important but to some it is
the PT92 is based on the original design one of its best selling item is the frame mounted safety 16 pound hammer spring will give a better trigger pull the girsan version of the beretta performance model the gen 4 runs about 540 dollars
The original PT92was 15 round magazine,i I have Owen both models ,I only the newer one PT92 AF,an I really like it
Quick question: my dad wants a compact conceal carry handgun. He's on a budget, about $425 at most. What should he get? Any caliber, and it can be a revolver, Glock style, or 1911. Thanks!
Very impressive presentation 👍
Taurus PT92 AFS-D is a gun Beretta wishes it had made. sexy and accurate.
I still have my Taurus PT 92 that was manufactured in 1985
What 5 handguns are cheap but good in California
It's a cool Beretta clone i like it
Great vid. I hate ambi shit that gets in my way. This looks well thought out. Wish they would just make it ambi possible.
What is a new version of a star 1955 model b dimensions please for up to $1500 Bucks
nice, I would buy one of those, and prob at a better price than competion.
but that is a big bulky gun for the nine
I want one i like the Beretta pistols
Now I want to see the video with the optic on the rail 🤣
What is the price?
You missed the best part. You can carry cocked and locked. You can't do that with Beretta.
I love taurus theyre are on top on their game
Has anyone broken the locking block?
i got the stainless steel finish guns beautiful
Made from Berreta tooling with the original safety decocker.
Great review
there are no differences between the Beretta 92 and the Taurus PT92, only a few cosmetic changes here and there. They have the same machining process and components, you only pay more for a Beretta because of the name. Taurus parts are done by the same Beretta machines that were bought after the contract for law enforcement ended in Sao Paulo, Brazil 1980.
Had one years ago. Had to sell it, and regret it to this day...
The finish is just not the same. Also hearing the fitting is not good. I will definitely stick with the Beretta
The one they made back in the day is probably the worst gun I've ever used. Me and my brother both got our hands cut up while racking, the controls sucked, the accuracy sucked, the trigger felt like squeezing dense foam,...
Don't remember it ever jamming though.
I have one that was made in 1987. Not sure what you are talking about, but the PT92 has always been a good gun.
Ah!! Are you trying to Use that red dot so you can shoot Gangsta Style? And Actually Hit Something?😂😂😂
I gotta get me one of these... 😁
I have a taurus pt917cs is the best guys yooo
It does seem like a nice pistol. I think the most deadly part about that gun is the GUIDE SPRING 😅😂😆😂. JK
If you watch the short video I did it did indeed kneecaped me
taurus and original beretta had frame mounted safety beretta created the slide safety on the slide taurus advanced there safety to a frame mounted safety decocker
I just got one
The girsan Regard is better! Clone nato approved to
Wish it were all medal
15 round mag
The only real difference is the stupid lanyard hole lol
So you're a Volkswagen expert now?
? I sold cars for 20 years, so yes, but what?
Lol i don't know why i said that
Omg he got da gta gun
beautiful gun... (video hickok45)
yes is a clone😅 but more cheaper
You have the history wrong.
i have to agree - theres more wrong than right here. ill be back when you do some research.
Nah I'm good you can stay away
Love the review I have a Taurus pt111 9m and a 1911acp both are fantastic.
Much better than the berreta in my opinion
i like that safety a lot more on this one. not so sure about reliability yet. i would assume these are just as good because they were built when people made guns and not plastic lol (kidding)
💀
