None, you can buy a bond to sell for gold sure, but there's NOTHING that you can only obtain through microtransactions and no grind is arbitrarily inflated JUST to make money off you in OSRS. And don't reply saying Warframe doesn't do that, it 100% does, a lot of the microtransactions are pay to speed things up because normally they're too slow... And why are they too slow? Because the devs made it that way, so people will pay up.
dude you are a warframe player. you pay to get better characters that make your precedent character useless. and its not even better its simply that the armor you previously bought are now nerf. AND you still need to grind more than in any other mmorpgs to simply have the character you already paid for. xD your a joke man.
As a former completionist (with master quest cape and nearly trim) and having started the game not long after you, I really resonate with the 'getting slapped around'. Most of my long term friends that I met several years ago don't play anymore for one reason or another. While I spent my time to pay for membership, I understand that many people don't have the time to spend working runescape instead of playing it (yes, there's a difference, even with the overlap of making gp because you're having fun). It really has been the combination of update after update, poor decision making after poor decision making, mtx after mtx, and the rise of cost to play, alongside just getting far enough into the game that most of what's left to do is make alts, that also cost more money/time, that has finally broken my connection with the game. I've swapped to OSRS, but mostly because my membership doesn't expire until February. Past that point, I'm unsure if I'll renew. It's possible that older players keep going due to the communities they've found, or the sunk cost fallacy, and that newer players just haven't been slapped around as much. For me, however, it's become impossible to separate Runescape 3 from the bitter taste in my mouth. And that's sad honestly. I've lost faith in the company despite loving the devs and their passion for the game.
Memberships used to be a "pass" for access to cool stuff. Nowadays it's being used to gatekeep quality of life changes from the base game so free to play users would be forced to subscribe even to the lowest subscription tier and I think this is the reason why most people wouldn't go for subscriptions anymore when every other free to play game offers season passes which provides enough content for 3 months for a cheaper price.
Being an OSRS player who only plays on one account, I have had no issues with paying for membership for a game I enjoy. Thousands of hours of "content" whereas most one-time purchase games struggle to manage a $1/hr playtime ratio in content for me. Not to mention most of these don't have server upkeep costs like an MMO, I believe this makes subscriptions make more sense (although the price is higher than it should be). However, the fact you lose your rank in RS3 for not sustaining membership is incredibly scummy and shows how Jagex is. Thankfully in OSRS's case the community has more control because without the community's passion and say the game would fall off like RS3 and Jagex would not make as much money as they are from the game.

Osrs does membership pretty well. Ya it's monthly but all the content is released for free, unlike world of Warcraft or final fantasy 14. There is no in-game cash shop that sells mounts, boosting etc etc. The only microtransaction they have is the bond which was a compromise for free to play.
Rs sub is about the same as WoW/FF14 sub is now at and u have to buy an expansion, which means paying extra, for those games on top of the sub. This change mostly affects content creators who have to make a new account for their new meme series they will abandon in a month anyway but most content creators also have bills in the bank so they could simply buy a bond.

I buy a bond from my rs3 account whenever I have the urge to play rs2. Normally after 14 days, I’m burned out and over the grind. Games not as fun as it once was. Everything takes way too long and it’s super expensive for one account. I’m just going to start coming back for deadman mode, because speed running endgame is super fun, with high drop rates. Shame it only last a few weeks. My account is mid 90’s, I just lack the motivation to grind for longer than a fortnight. Maybe I’m getting old now
There's no reason for it other than "I bet we can". The new WoW expansion cost more to design and model than any update Runescape has ever had combined and they ask for a dollar short of the same amount. This just increases profit margins. Im glad its easy to pay with gold by flipping or a bit of bossing. But a new player who can't do either? Tough sell.
The prices don't go up for you if you have an ongoing subscription btw, I hardly ever play anymore but still pay the same price as I did 10 years ago for my main. That's the main reason I haven't cancled that account's membership.
That survery did a great job. Now jagex can be very relaxed at work knowing that no matter how shitty the updates are, people are willing to pay 20$. So when the removal of treasurehunter hits... Expect 20$/month. "To compensate for the removal". Not only are they taking away rewards but also expect people to play this game for an endless amount of time for that much every month. Noone wins this way. The game will die eventually. The proper way to save this game is actually to lower the price to attract more customers. Because lets be real.. This game isn't even worth 10$/month. Especially when they "cant" allow multple gamemodes on one account. We're talking ironman, Hcim, group ironman. Fresh start worlds.. All of that shit. I cant participate because I refuse pay more than 1 subscription. One account should be allowed for multiple gamemodes. What the fuck is that shit?? I'd glaze the shit out of jagex if they just made the game around 6-7$ again. It might not be a fair price... but it would be a bargin. Enough to bring in ALOT more people. No?
People will pay whatever Jagex throws at them and the players will defend them no matter what. Just look at some of the comments on this video 😂. Jagex gets away with this because of pushover players.
Played since 2004, haven't subbed since they dropped the 3 month option. They said this was an unpopular option but that's bullshit, and even if it were true, what's the trouble with just leaving it? I usually play for 2-3 months and take a break for a few months. Many others do the same. If we want to continue this pattern, we have to pay even more. Sure the longer subs are a better deal, but that doesn't really matter if you're going to be inactive for 50% of the sub period.
your points in this video just come across as somebody who's spent far too long playing a game they lost interest in years ago chasing that rank. Increasing their prices now puts them on the same page as games like WoW and FFXIV. RuneScape has had far below industry rate membership prices for years, and is finally now catching up now that there's so many people playing with mobile. It's not a greed issue, its a size, update demand, and inflation issue. I'd say most OSRS players don't mind the increase in pay because they game is well managed.
Bro I haven’t played RuneScape like that in years 😂. Your comment is already not accurate. I’m making a comedic take talking about how Jagex continues to let down their player base. But it sounds like the player base love it, according to the majority of a response. Glad I don’t play, glad I’m not apart of that community.
@@BradleyTheBradsterwe get a new update on oldschool runescape every single week voted on by us the players no other game does that we are lucky to have such a great team and game the only reason the price went up is the company was sold like a week ago it sounds like you are finally letting go of the game and now you want everyone to leave with you to justify wasting time on rank
2004 player here. I do play other games as well as runescape, and always have. I'd still easily consider OSRS a better value than netflix. Do I _like_ the price change? Well obviously not, but it's nothing even close to a deal breaker. I also don't see every update as either mid or crap as you apparently do.
@@BradleyTheBradster In a way. I did quit for years over the evolution of combat, and only returned when I saw OSRS was going in a direction that interested me.
I'm not some white knight defending the corporation for raising the price of membership when they didn't really need to -- certainly not by 25% -- but is there not a point that could be made about how much content has been added since the original membership price of $5? Membership today is not the same offering as 2008. I'm also not convinced THAT many players use multiple accounts simultaneously, warranting simultaneous memberships. And I speak as someone who has and does do that.
Every content creator that makes RuneScape videos has more than 1 account. There are game modes that require new accounts. So yes, I’d honestly say, most people have multiple accounts.
@Bradster0 Most players aren't content creators, though. Only a small proportion are. As much as I personally enjoy ironman mode, a majority of players do not play ironman -- and to just give it a try, does not necessarily require membership on the ironman account. And of the remaining base of iron players, not all of them also play a noniron "main" account at the same time; I don't, for example. I recently introduced a friend to the game with a Group Iron, so they don't have a noniron "main" account either. I do want to reiterate for a second, though, that I don't mean to defend the practice of subscription-based models for games in general. I actually do dislike the model a lot, because it inherently shifts the would-be motivations of developers less from the generally-virtuous goal of "make a fun game :)" to "make content that spans a lot of time and hooks players to keep paying a subscription," which may be implemented in less-virtuous methods -- your video's example on high score placements requiring remaining a member is a pretty bare example of that. I don't disagree that Jagex are scumbags with this subscription price increase thing, but only question the degree to which it may be entirely unacceptable, if that makes sense. I'm slightly less mad about it because they have been adding more and more content over the years, and grandfathering rates for old adopters the whole time as well. (Although 1-year-term memberships are not being grandfathered, 6-month, 1-month, and 3-month (when it was offered -- my iron still has a 3-month grandfathered rate) are not having their rates changed) I also don't buy that they "had to" raise rates, and am upset that they have, but find it harder to raise my hands over it, given the content they've added to the game, is all.
30 seconds in already i dont understand. if you dont play cancel all your memberships then rejoin when you want to play. its your fault you do this... not anyone elses. i stopped playing for a year cancelled my membership then renewed for a year recently when i started back. if its in the budget and it dont matter sure support them but you cant complain if you dont use the service that you pay for. inflation is going to happen. theyre increasing the team size and if you pay yearly you dont even really notice this imo.
all they do is updates 90% of the time for mid to end game players, where are the updates for early game? We will never get more new players at a better rate without nooby updates...
They also should give more to f2p players so they can taste members more before deciding, f2p in its current state would make me quit 100% before buying members because its just shit so why would you? unless you already knew what members offers, which new f2p players don't. Maybe allow them to get up to 5 or 10 kc in maybe 3 bosses of their choice as a trial with probably reduced drops to prevent bots making dozens of accs to farm it, after a certain amount of f2p playtime.
That’s actually not a bad idea really. Early game will never be a focus though because most players are mid to late game. Increasing membership pricing has a higher chance of turning away new potential players. Especially when comparing other games that are way better out there. The RS community isn’t objective enough to have these discussions, most are chronically online Twitter users.
I just dont understand if you truely care and wanna play the game, if get to mid/endgame it is REALLY easy to buy membership with GP, buy bonds off ge and done. Ir you cant keep that up you are unfortunately as for osrs, playing it so casually i dont even know why you'd be so invested about caring about the monthly fee-unless ofc you do pay and play multiple games monthly and its adding up. Idk not to roast or be elitist but you can literally.. get 5m an hour so 3-4h to get 3weeks gametime right now by training thieving. You can play for 2 years if you get 99. Just play the game and dont pay real cash
This is why NONE of the problems will ever be fixed. RS community isn’t objective enough to have these conversations. Raising a monthly membership price is NEVER GOOD when trying to attract NEW players that have never played before. RuneScape will forever be a game that the only people who play it are the people that have always played it. RuneScape is basically Reddit with graphics, the echo chamber of the same opinions with no outside views allowed. So happy I quit this game years ago.
warframe has to make so many sacrifices to stay free to play like a having a small amount of initial warframe/ weapon slots to help deal with storing players information or making forma take a day to complete so the 3 pack is much more tantalizing and time efficient. osrs doesnt have any compromises like that. Your bank size will almost never be an issue until later on and there is no necessary resource to grow stronger that is arbitrarily timegated. So I think it probably deserves to have a subscription also inflation is a real thing too like you cant just ignore it like they have salaries to pay, they have infrastructure to keep up with and neither of those will cost the same as it did when the game came out. That all being said the worst grinds in warframe are like shitter tier what are you even complaining about compared to osrs holy shit getting to 50 thieving is a fucking nightmare fruit stalls is so boring and unrewarding its insane and the fucking mage training arena you want me to work a full ass shift to get fucking magic robes holy shit what an awful fucking game oh but it doesnt matter because you can buy it off the grand exchange wow really satisfying to do it like that like theres no other possible way to do this besides having you waste 8 fucking hours of your life or buying it from someone else who did fuck runescape fuck jagex fuck the person reading this and fuck me for getting the stupid infinity robe top on my ironman
you have no idea what you're talking about. they're pumping content out left and right for this game. i would pay $20/month for the game. I get probably over 20hours a month so im paying a $1/h to have some fun with friends. Just be broke and cry no one is forcing anyone to pay membership.
Vote with your wallet but you don't do that. Yes, I understand you want people to know that you no lifed the game harder than others. Osrs also hit over 160k concurrent players with nothing going on. My limit is 15$ I've paid Wow that much. I've done ff14. I've given Poe hundreds of dollars. I dumped a bunch into korean games. Also you mention Netflix but they have constantly been increasing prices
I already canceled my membership genius, why do you think I even made this video. If you’re happy being a sucker for these companies raising their monthly prices with mtx then by all means, I don’t care to change your mind.
If you cover up the name and only mention the negative sides of the game, of course they're gonna say no. You didn't mention there's potentially thousands of hours worth of gameplay, depending on how you approach it. Hundreds of music tracks, over a hundred quests in each game, some of which are voice acted, and the newer ones are really well made. A huge community where you can get to know other people from across the world and play co-op or even PVP, and a vast open world to explore and get lost in. Now it doesn't sound so bad, does it?
@@GRIMHOOD99 I don't think MTX would totally prevent future price increases, but it would definitely help. RS3's MTX has been doing a lot of Jagex's heavy lifting (in terms of revenue), despite having a significantly smaller and ever-dwindling player base. If MTX was in their most popular game, they would have less of a need to increase membership prices. Naturally they still would eventually because they're a big corporation, but they'd have one more avenue to draw from before jumping to: "Whack them prices up across the entire board."
Dont all runescape players that have played the game enough have constant flow of money ingame so they can buy bonds so essentially your membership is free if you keep playing? Both rs3 and osrs. I havent played OSRS in years but after some time I comfortable got my account to a point where getting a bond was no problem and I basically had membership all the time when I played. And if you are a competent PVP player you can basically get so much GP you dont ever have to think about membership costing real money. Or just putting in trades at the G.E so you constantly have passive GP coming in.
its too expensive to bond members now, shit almost peaked at 15m each, i used to be able to buy for 5-8m each, now u have to spend a few days just to get 1, (if your not lucky with rng)

Jagex on the other hand can eat a dick, RS is a good game but it sure af isn't $14 a month kind of good game especially with singular character per sub.
Tough sell.
Good luck selling that kind of membership price to POTENTIAL new players. There are games bigger than RuneScape for FREE
thinking of getting rid of mem till i really wanna play again just cause of this increase
No shame in that
The prices don't go up for you if you have an ongoing subscription btw, I hardly ever play anymore but still pay the same price as I did 10 years ago for my main. That's the main reason I haven't cancled that account's membership.
@lfcmike12 that’s only if you’re grandfathered into the 5$ a month and have had it concurrent since then.
@@BradleyTheBradster Oh damn, it doesn't count for the other price brackets? I just assumed they would have. That's a shame.
The right choice. This game is not good value for 15$ a month.
i think u can buy bonds from brazil for 3 bucks a month
I tried this, i think something in Australia blocks me doing so with a vpn.
Meanwhile me still trying to milk the f2p osrs content
😂😂
just buy bonds
I miss RuneScape :c
Played since 2004, haven't subbed since they dropped the 3 month option. They said this was an unpopular option but that's bullshit, and even if it were true, what's the trouble with just leaving it? I usually play for 2-3 months and take a break for a few months. Many others do the same. If we want to continue this pattern, we have to pay even more. Sure the longer subs are a better deal, but that doesn't really matter if you're going to be inactive for 50% of the sub period.
100%. It’s scummy business practice. They raise membership price for the same game as yesterday.
your points in this video just come across as somebody who's spent far too long playing a game they lost interest in years ago chasing that rank.

Runescapers will defend Jagex and never quit the game no matter what
@@BradleyTheBradster In a way. I did quit for years over the evolution of combat, and only returned when I saw OSRS was going in a direction that interested me.
Sub based games can work but not when there is ton of mtx as well and also when sub means one character per account.
(Although 1-year-term memberships are not being grandfathered, 6-month, 1-month, and 3-month (when it was offered -- my iron still has a 3-month grandfathered rate) are not having their rates changed)
I also don't buy that they "had to" raise rates, and am upset that they have, but find it harder to raise my hands over it, given the content they've added to the game, is all.
Hahaha you should have actually watched the video. I explain why I haven’t canceled my membership yet up until now 😂🤡🤡
all they do is updates 90% of the time for mid to end game players, where are the updates for early game?
It does work tho lol
shh its rs3 player speaking
Inflation is a real thing
$5 in 2008 money, adjusting for inflation would be about $7.20
@dinoblacklane1640 you're right, it's as much as I thought.
you have no idea what you're talking about. they're pumping content out left and right for this game. i would pay $20/month for the game. I get probably over 20hours a month so im paying a $1/h to have some fun with friends. Just be broke and cry no one is forcing anyone to pay membership.
Looks at WoW, ya ok sure
Bruh must be RS3 player
So, Wow and FFXIV are not working ?;
Nah wow ain’t working
@@BradleyTheBradster idk, it look like it does
Bro it went up like a dollar who cares. And also, if you're already a member, you keep the price you've been paying.
Because I don’t need too. Most people already say no because it’s a subscription based game.
They should just add cosmetic MTX tbh. These scheduled price increases are gonna keep coming every year and a half/2 years otherwise.
RS3 has cosmetic mtx and it gets raise of price as well. Problem isn't price as much as the value of the product they are selling.
Guess you've never heard of the #1 MMO in the world, FFXIV.
osrs has a HUGE playerbase... and i love the game. a few dollars. better than spectrums yearly increases lol.
