If it's story missions/campaigns you are looking for, Destiny 1 is an option to consider. Especially with the player count being lower than it's ever been in bungie history. Of course, crucible is a slog in d1, but the campaigns are pretty solid.

Shadow keep was really the only overall mid expansion. Final shape and witch queen are great story wise and lightfall was bad story wise but has some of the most fun missions, strand, and qol changes.
