Listen up kiddos THIS is rock and roll music!!
Whose listening in 2024? Incredible flute skills! Ian Anderson is one of the best rock n roll performers in modern rock history.
Right here with you, friend!
Saw them live a few times, they blew away everybody !!
100% in agreement, also Barre is an amazing guitarist
And no stupid smartphones up trying to record video! Just enjoyment.
He was self taught. Incredible. I saw Jethro Tull plenty of times in the 70s in The Old Boston Gahden. Mescaline was the way to go. 😂 Check out what this Classically trained Flutist has to say about Ian Anderson. It’s pretty cool. ua-cam.com/video/gKSrq_qjB_Y/v-deo.htmlsi=62ZUZBH7zNOQck-J
One of the most original and talented bands of all time!!!!
His extreme facial expressions makes the performance so much better
Ian Anderson the madman!
One of the greatest most unique frontmen in history
Steve "Rambo" Walsh one of them
@@kaizoku0u Freddie Mercury too. Man was crazy on a stage.
Absolutely correct, there's no doubt!
Oh yes!!!!
@@darqv9358 Freddie Mercury was probably the best frontman. But Ian Anderson was special in his own way. He had a unique voice that was a joy to listen to. Not a powerful one like Freddie's, but quite unique in its own way.
The fact that you make a flute kick ass in a rock band automatically gets your ass into the rock and roll hall of fame. Most underrated band of all time.
Martin Barre is amongst the most underrated guitarists for sure!

So true
If you like flute in rock you should check out Back Home from the golden earring.
underrated ?
Jethro Tull,i know this band sine 1968,when I was 12 years old.I hear their music today,a 67 years old,and I'll never finish to listen them, every day.
In their own universe this band was. There are no bands like this anymore. Simply epic performances. 100% original and pure jam. God thank you for allowing me to be a teenager in the 70s. Love Tull.
Spot on, Tull, Bad Co. and Purple 😁
No they still exist I had a boyfriend in 2010 loved Jethro Tull he played 7 instruments would do tree pose like Ian with a violin so hot!
Really I was 31 in 2010 and my boyfriend a younger less still he loved this and who am I to resist a 21 year old blonde with long hair 6'2 at the foot of the bed playing classic fiddle? No I'll make him stew Fer dinner cake Fer his birthday etc. Earned it.
Probably you might listen to king gizzard and the lizard wizard, I'd say they're one of the best rock bands out there.
Yep die 70er waren in der Musik perfekt
"Mom, I want to be a rock star."
"No Ian, your dad and I want you to take flute lessons."
"Have it your way mom"

😝
Ian picked up the flute after the band was formed because, as he put it, he didn't want to become "just another 3rd rate guitar player.
@@Alan-fv8ie Yes, I was surprised to hear that. just thought I'd make a funny comment.
@@Alan-fv8ie i read somewhere that ian started playing the flute 6 months before the band was formed
I remember the first time I heard this song. My brother, father and I were just hanging out, bullshitting, and my dad asked if we ever heard of Jethro Tull. Me and my brother both responded with no then my dad put this song on for us. Minds were blown that day lol still get goosebumps every time I hear this. RIP Dad, thank you for showing me real music 🤘🏼
Awesome memory to have
Jethro Tull Was an AMAZING Band Back In the Day ! Your Dad had good taste..
What a beautiful comment
I remember back in 1970, the headmaster of my school (a Catholic priest) was very aware of social issues and used the lyrics from Aqualung to deliver a sermon about inequality. Given the fact that this was in South Africa deep in the grip of apartheid at the time, he was skating on very thin ice. A man I had the utmost respect for.
Beautiful memory
Never was anything like them before ...has been nothing like them since. The one & only, Jethro Tull.
I saw Jethro Tull at MSG in NYC in 1977. It was my first concert ever. I have been to many, many concerts since then, but the Tull show still ranks among the best. Never to old to rock n roll...
What a privileged i have aĺl tull s albums earn money and buy in vinyl
Jethro Tull, what a Band. I am 64 now, still loving this music.
Hi, I'm 46 - and feel the same about that genius music since I heard it first, 30 years ago.
I'm 64 and we rocked our Asses Off.that was and still is the greatest music ever.✌️
My dad played a lot of great 70s rock when I was a kid.. I'm 42, my kids are 16 and 22 and we all blast this stuff when cleaning. My grandson is 6 months, but he will know good music.

@@netlinus Ha!
The fact that you all are here listening to this live version tells me you all know and love Tull and classic rock.. Nuff said.
Yesss
Well... I searched their name and their first song title entry and clicked on their first video, however I love classic Rock anyway. :)
Yes indeed!!!!
just picked up my first electric guitar and I'm hooked on classic rock - this is an amazing show!
Nah, I was here looking for the original track used in a meme.
I'm 68 and still can't get enough of Jethro Tull. Saw the band with every album release from aqualung thru stormwatch.
69 and still kickin'
I’m 68 (in two days) and feel privileged to have seen them live at Belle Vue Manchester. I bought all their albums and never get bored listening to Ian Anderson’s creativity.
I'm a kid (compared to you olds fooks in this thread) and had a poster of that ugly guy on my wall 45+ years ago, but never heard anyting by them until max 2 years ago... Strange how things work out.. I want to use this chance to mention a just as old danish band called Secret Oyster, that I'm convinced , that some of you will like. Enjoy - or not B)
Same here....one of the band whose music just flows
Wow--- I saw them twice in the 70s--- the Stand Up tour and Thick as a Brick----
High energy shows that's for sure!!!!
Martin Barre is a great guitar player, always underated---+
Drove a van in the 70's with a mega sound system. I got trapped in a huge traffic jam on the Southern State Pkwy going to the beach. Traffic stopped, we started partying and I let loose with Tull that could be heard miles away. The reactions from people that surrounded us was priceless.
Drove a VAN in the 70's. Who didn't?
Absolutely loved when this happened, thanks for the musical accompaniment going to Smith’s point or Jones beach, depending on which way we were headed.
You’ve got one of the best names ever
Oh man, Tull was so big on Long Island back then!
Dud u give the bored other stranded a concert?
The flute straight to lyrics and Vice versa is actually the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen
I've always been amazed by the vocal utterances he's able to make while playing the flute at the same time.
I just started my own Rock and roll hall of fame. Jethro tull is my first inductee.
Yeah but John Popper from Blues Traveller is just as impressive. Now the music isn't as good at all, but that's a different subject.
Totally agree🥰
@@frankkolton1780 imo it's similar to what people do more commonly with harmonica
They're playing like their tour bus is double parked. This is absolutely fucking blistering and I love every second of it
Yes. Let's get rid of the sampling and the auto - tuning, and go back to great musicianship. And record onto tape - charging producers for every roll - so they don't mess about for weeks producing nothing.

Yeah and one of the best live-bands ever.
Ian Anderson always reminded me of a crazed Renaissances man from the 1400s who transported himself through time into a rock band.
he is superior to that
Ian is a poet from the 13th century and everyone of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul
Ohh absolutly
Brilliant musician
@Bella Bella I've been listening to them since the early 70's....I'm now 63 and still listening.
This song is one of the pillars of rock music.
After 50 years this tune still gives that “feel!”
like the all time winner has got you..........
And he never took drugs he was just nuts naturally God bless him Ian you’re awesome dude
Why would he ever have to? Bitchin group! Could both sing and slam on that flute.
NOBODY, I REPEAT, NOBODY has to be a drugheart!!!! CHRIST can set the vilest free!!!!!! Hitler could of been set free: if had just repented!
He’s a Genius. Period. I don’t think the Rock and Roll Hall of fame deserves Ian Anderson if they’ve passed Him up all these years. Martin Barre too. God Bless Em Both. 🙏
Imagine him on drugs? That would have been something else

Who remembers Ian Anderson's hallmark flamingo stance on one leg? Vivid memories. If you were brought up in the 60's, 70's and 80's then your were blessed with the best musicians EVER.
I totally agree and was blessed to have been brought up during this time period 🙌 🙏
I remember it very well. Many musicians during the 20th century had pizzazz, finesse, character, skill, heart, and other attributes that defined who they were. In the case @JohnSmith brought up with the famous Ian Anderson flamingo one leg stance.
One of my favorite songs of all times
It was so nice of this rock band to adopt the ragged, time travelling, flute waving medieval bard
Im 70 years old and can still never get enough of this band:)
My dad who passed away, told me this was his all time favourite song. Its incredible. Never be anything like this is modern times
Sorry for your loss.

That magical flute is just out of this world! Ian Anderson takes it to new high....even after so many years of listening to it, never makes it dull even by a whisker
Isn't that the truth!😁
My Dad, the Honorable Judge Weber actually turned me on to rock and roll with this album. I wish I had his vinyl collection from when he graduated Law School at OU. RIP Dad. ❤️

First time I heard this song was in 2016 (I was 17) when I was sweeping near the gas pumps at the store I worked at. Older guy pulled up in an 80 something cutlass with it blaring in the middle of the flute solo and when he got out he asked me if I’d ever heard of Jethro Tull, said I should check them out on break or at home. Just want to say thanks if you read this Marty
Blasting Jethro tull in a g-body Cutlass ... I'm jealous that dudes living the life
I was about 17 when I first heard it too. When it was released in the 70's!!
Brilliant comment Ben Butz !
Love this story !!! Music is the most amazing thing we should all share with eachother
This song is proof Jethro Tull will never be old, only gold. Ian Anderson's flute took us to a new plane. The music industry has never had another like him! He plays something like 8 different musical instruments and he understood how to entertain us. A jolly good showman! Great song even decades later!
Continues to find his inspiration, 👍
my man Ian looks like he just escaped from a medieval dungeon.
I began my TULL LP collection in 69, first concert in 73, met Ian twice/once on stage, and have too many concert shirts to count. The band is truly unique, the musicianship always exceptional, and
every concert is an event that never ever disappoints!
After nearly 50 years, that flute still gives me the chills. Just remarkable.
Just good stuff
I've always heard of Jethro Tull but never listened to them, just a band that I knew was great through word of mouth. I have been a fool to have never listened to them before now. Amazing
One of the things that made Tull special is that they didn't fit into a specific genre. They'd go through different phases throughout their career. From a bluesy phase to an English country phase to a more rock phase to a south asian/Indian phase. They even won a Grammy for best heavy metal band in a year when their album wasn't really heavy metal. They've always been very difficult to categorize.
Better late than never Jake!!! Enjoy...absolutely awesome!
I made the same mistake as yourself Jake, Glad I hit play on this tune it's a superb track.
Ok, just to make sure you don't miss anything: Deep Purple, Yello, Led Zeppelin, Tom Waits, Blind Boys of Alabama, AC/DC, Miles Davis, Rolling Stones, Elvis, ...

My stepdad--or, I should say, my real dad in all but DNA--introduced me to Jethro Tull and a bunch of other classic rock bands when I was a kid.
I can't thank him enough for that and everything else he's done for me.
I bet he'd love to hear it from you
The crowd cheer after the intro, at 1:00, is so fulfilling to me. Puts a huge smile on my face, I have to laugh it feels so good.
that's real rock and roll, with a tinge of madness....
what i like....
Bouree
but this is no rock and roll - simply rock (probably hard rock or the first heavy metal (heavy metal is defined as hard rock with many show elements)... - you should know
Jörg Schmitz i think that they were a progressive rock band or hard rock, but never rock n roll
no problem with your statement - i only hate the "rock and roll" of everyone to everything - rock and roll is bill haley, chuck berry and the early beatles (and excuse the 100 of others i didn't mention...) :-)
+Sebastian Cenzano. ..Same class ass Rush
Hadn't even thought of Tull in i don't know how long. Something reminded me of Aqualung today and down the rabbit hole I go. Such an amazing band. The flute is the novel part of the band, but Ian's voice and look match up with music and the words so perfectly. Lightning in a bottle
Just a master musician, no other words can be used to describe this man and his group.
Ian Anderson has one of the most awesome voices in classic rock, Just a truly talented musician as well! Jethro Tull belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! They are a legendary band led by a legendary iconic front man, Ian Anderson!

I am a 66-year-old burned out hippie who has been blessed with five wonderful children, all of whom love and make music. My big three of 1970’s progressive rock and IMHO the best secular rock bands of all time are Genesis, YES, and Jethro Tull. Particularly my youngest son Jaron, who just turned 18 and graduated from high school loves these 3 bands almost to the point of obsession just like I do! I feel so blessed to be able to share this gorgeous music with all of my children, but especially with Jaron while I am still above ground!
PS: I was able to see Tull in concert 3 times in the 70's. They were extraordinary!
They have an old English folk in their Rock Jazz classic:$on the bright side Such as yourself it seems
