    When I see young people like yourself putting effort into learning about the history of music - a deep and sprawling history - it's very impressive to me. I don't think I was as open to past music when I was your age. And anybody who is open to it and willing to learn about it is way ahead of the game.

    The first born to the Gibb family was a daughter.
    That falsetto is Barry Gibb.
    Andy Gibb is Barry, Robin, and Maurice's, little brother that had a solo career. He sang once in a while with his brothers but not often.

  • @DUGGER1947
    @DUGGER1947 3 місяці тому +15

    The genre of this music is disco. The song was used in the iconic disco movie, "Saturday Night Fever." Barry sings falsetto, which is the ability to stretch one's vocal range, (not using the vocal cords in the same manner as normal singing), to the upper tenor to male soprano range. Prior to the song "Nights on Broadway," released in 1975, the BeeGees never used falsetto in any of their songs. Few people can control falsetto to accurately hit the correct notes. Barry can, and make it sound heavenly as well. Barry's normal vocal range (not using falsetto) ranges from baritone to tenor. Robin actually had a natural voice in a higher tenor range. Maurice was a unicorn who could sing from the bass range all the way to tenor (and even lower range of falsetto). Maurice was a master harmonizer, and would sing in whatever range produced the desired harmony for the song.

  • @roamingnomeRV
    @roamingnomeRV 3 місяці тому +11

    So a baritone is a very low, deep voice. A falsetto is a very high range voice. Typically, it is hard for a male to do this voice type and it takes immense training and vocal range to do it. That is what made them so special and unique.

  • @gaylaliles4095

    Barry Gibb has the best falsetto voice of all time. He has a powerful and beautiful natural voice, too. You might give a listen to "To Love Somebody" from 1967.

I started a Joke and Massachusetts from the 60s, Country Lanes and Living in Chicago from the 70s, Tokyo Nights and Bodyguard from the 80s just to name a few. The BeeGees are naturally tenor/baritone voices. When they sing with their regular, or chest voice, that is their range. A falsetto voice is a voice in a register higher than a person's usual register, resulting from a change in the way the vocal cords are vibrated. We can all do this but being able to do it for more than a moment, in tune and consistently is very rare. Barry’s falsetto is remarkable and stands out even amongst his brothers.

And they primarily did pop and R&B. And they didn't use autotune, they were actually talented. People nowadays can't sing, they are computer generated with autotune and affects. The Bee Gees are my favorite group.

    The Bee Gee Brothers recreated themselves at least three times. My first time hearing them was in the 1960's. Here are some of their first phase that became popular -- New York Mining Disaster 1941 --- I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You --- Lonely Days --- To Love Somebody --- Massachusetts --- How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. I know you will love these. These Australian Brothers had never been to the USA although they wrote a song about a Mine disaster in New York and another about Massachusetts. None of this music is cynical, judgmental, accusitory or vulgar. PS I've enjoyed your honest.reactions.

BTW, the Bee-Gees were all over the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack and it was the highest selling movie soundtrack off all time (40,000,000 copies sold, 40x Platinum) and was only unseated 15 years later by Whitney Houstons "The Bodyguard" soundtrack (45,000,000 copies sold, 45x Platinum). At The Bee Gees pinnacle in America (which was once they had finally perfected their iconic sound in Saturday Night Fever) they hit the tail end of the Boomers (the last of them were finishing up high school) and the beginning of GenX (who, being the teeny boppers at that time, were the ones The Bee Gees probably had the most formative effect on). I recommend Aaron Neville to you - “Tell It Like It Is”. He sings like an angel; incredible range. The legendary Quincy Jones gave a shout out to the Bee Gees with their groove "Fani Be Tender With My Love" and he said that song was the best R&B jam he had ever heard. These brothas were the best in the business over multiple decades.

    The Bee Gees hold a special place in my heart. ❤

    It’s considered pop/R&B. They are like Johnny Cash; there’s no one like them and you can’t put them in a distinct category.
    Another 60’s 70’s group that were excellent vocally and did amazing arrangements was the Carpenters.

    Thank you King, So cool your young self reaction to the Bee Gees. I’m in my 50’s and it takes me back to those magical times when their music swept me away. My 17year old needs to be on here cause she’s discovering music from my generation too like Sade.

    The gene pool is becoming more diverse which, in actuality, increases the odds of having talent like this. It's a social construct as to what we expose ourselves to. Congrats to you for branching out and seeing/hearing all of the possibilities.

    Tavares did the original version of this song. The Bee Gees did a beautiful cover. I fell in love with the Tavares version bc I heard that one first. So glad you enjoy it. BARRY Gibb was the lead singer. Andy was the baby brother who wasn't in the group. He blew up being a solo act. It was top 40, pop I guess. Thank you for saying they don't make em like they used to.

    You asked. I'm sorry, but no one is comparable to The Bee Gees. (Yes, I was alive then.)
    There is no one comparable to Elvis, The Beatles...Eminem...Michael Jackson, Bob Marley...any great. That's the beauty of music greatness.
    Do love your take. Keep doing you.

    Excellent analysis. You summed it up really well. That's why so many of todays artists (about 70%) are using songs from the '60s & '70s. To the point where most people don't even know they are covers and are shocked when they hear the original versions. My prediction is that this music, as it gets out more and more, will come back and have a positive influence on the gen z folks.

    As Gen X, I've always been drawn to music that speaks to my soul. Some of my all time favorites are Get Together by The Youngbloods and Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Bee Gees and ABBA will always be timeless, too. My Millennial and Gen Z kids know my love of this kind of music and have grown to appreciate it over time. The BeeGees were first formed in 1958 . Then moved to Queensland. Most popular in USA from 60’s - 70’s. The youngest BeeGee was Andy Gibb that chose to go into a solo career.
