You have four decades at your disposal, with for example "To Love Somebody" in 1967, "How Deep Is Your Love" in 1977, "You Win Again" in 1987 or even "Alone" in 1997, just to name a few Bee Gees songs...

Over 1000 songs written by the brothers. Try How Deep is your Love, Love you inside and out, Jive Talking, More than a Woman, You Should be dancing, Nights on Broadway, Night Fever...that's just a handful from the 70s. They had a 40 plus year career. No other group compares. Great reaction!

The song makes you sing and dance but it's a sad song about homelessness, hunger, and joblessness but through it all they are staying alive. The Saturday Fever soundtrack had multiple #1 hits, such as How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever, and a song they wrote for another artist named Eyvonne Elliman If I Can't Have You. You must Listen to Fanny Be Tender With My Love, Tragedy, and Jive Talking, to name a few. They wrote #1 hit for Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton, Island In the Stream, and Also hits for Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, and others.

Stayin' Alive was written during the Son of Sam time in New York, when David Burkowitz, serial killer, was shooting and killing people at random. So they wrote this song about survival... hence, Stayin' Alive. They were geniuses together ❤❤❤

Not to mention people who covered their songs like Al Green How can you mend a broken heart and Michael Bolton To love somebody to name a few. The BeeGees were all born in England and they emigrated to Australia as very young children. 4 boys, Andy passed as. teenager and a sister, I don’t think I ever heard their sister , Lesley sing.
I remember watching those 3 men Barry in the middle, with Robyn and Maurice now passed who were twins singing on TV here in Australia as very young boys. Vid is on UA-cam.
Barry and sister Lesley are only 2 still alive.

Robin recalls, "The subject matter of 'Stayin' Alive' is actually quite a serious one; It's about survival in the streets of New York, and the lyrics actually say that". Barry Gibb also recalls, "People crying out for help. Desperate songs. Those are the ones that become giants. The minute you capture that on record, it's gold. 'Stayin' Alive' is the epitome of that. Everybody struggles against the world, fighting all the bullshit and things that can drag you down. And it really is a victory just to survive. But when you climb back on top and win bigger than ever before, well that's something everybody reacts to everybody".

The empty buildings are a metaphor for the emptiness of opportunity and surroundings. That's why "I'm stayin alive" Like.....not really living --- just staying alive in an empty place where there's no opportunity or reason to go on. And, yes, real voices -- no autotune on that stuff back then. All real voices.

You didn't expect those British white boys to have that much rhythm and soul!! Your first reaction had me belly laughing. I loved it. The Bee Gees are legendary. Legendary. They have pipes!!! And what's even more mind-blowing is they can all 3 be lead vocal with no trouble. They all have the ability. These guys ruled. They were the band that ruled my childhood. Everyone loved the Bee Gees. How could you not?
It's the movie set for the movie Stayin' Alive.
Its just a song of trying survive back in the 70s. People were starving and dying right in the streets. Gas certain foods were rationed. I remember it. You had stamps to get gas for your car. You could only buy so much. We had a farm so we didnt starve. Not everyone was so lucky. Jobs were no where. Pay was non-existent. Homeless wasn't a term yet. They were called bums. Thats the truth of it. There were no shelters. Churches weren't running big soup kitchens like now. In more rural areas none of this existed. The song was just about trying to make it. And then there was the Son of Sam all at the same time. It was harsh. Barry Gibb wrote a song for the times.

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988.
The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born.
All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically.
Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced).
From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too ua-cam.com/video/7niXSh7vWRI/v-deo.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: ua-cam.com/video/WH_j90fCIk4/v-deo.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out ua-cam.com/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/v-deo.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: ua-cam.com/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/v-deo.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you ua-cam.com/video/CA4CInDnTk8/v-deo.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: ua-cam.com/video/162GlAEpfrY/v-deo.html.
Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on ua-cam.com/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/v-deo.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing ua-cam.com/video/_6MR-E_Qzz0/v-deo.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

@@kathleenmayhorne3183 Yeah, I know, Leslie is the oldest of the 5 children and - as she got older - turned into a clone of mom Barbara. She stayed in Australia when the family moved back to the UK, because she had married an Australian and raised a large family of 8 kids. Her oldest child, Bernice (Berry) unfortunately passed away in 2021 at the age of 56. Leslie did not aspire to continue on in music; instead became a dog breeder.

This is from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, one of the biggest albums ever. They performed or wrote most of the songs on it. It defined a generation. They've published over a thousand songs, and they've been performing together since 1958. They were a part of the British Invasion in the 60s and reinventex their sound several times. That rabbit hole is deep and there's not a bad song in it.

I was a dumb white boy about 13 years old in middle America loving and listening to Play That Funky Music White Boy and Stayin' Alive on the radio. It was a few years till I got to college did I have some fraternity brother enlighten me about the fact that they were white bands and not black bands, as I was stupidly describing in a conversation that I thought I knew for sure they were black. It was MTV that had to prove it to me. Lol
So btw, you heard any relative Play That Funky Music White Boy? You'll think Wild Cherry 🍒 got some black soul in them. I did.😅

A lot of black reactors have made comments that this Bee Gees song was in a lot of “black” movies. The majority also thought the singers were black and their facial expressions were just as perplex as yours.😂🙌 Surprise!!🥳✨💫
Another interesting thing is many also comment on their older generation family members loving The Bee Gees songs. When they find out these family members knew the artists were white but never mentioned it, they feel cheated or misled. It just never crossed the older generations minds to do so because to them it was irrelevant. Good music was just good music.💕

Please react to more BeeGees such as Nights on Broadway, I Cant See Nobody, Run to Me, How Do You Mend A Broken Heart, Alone, Reaching Out. TIP: The early 70s to late 80s performances are the best performances for these songs. Except "Alone", which was written later. The late 90s performances are 30 years after their first international hits and Barry's voice is not as strong. So he sounds better in the 70s to early 90s at the latest IMHO. The Melbourne 1974 performance is amazing and all the Midnight Special tv performances are GREAT!!❤❤❤

The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was SO huge back in the day that the Bee Gees became associated in the public mind with Disco...but they considered themselves 'blue-eyed soul' artists. During the disco backlash of the late 70s/early 80s they could not get their own music on the radio, so they wrote and produced songs (and some albums) for other artists including Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick and others. One of the most popular examples, as mentioned in other comments, was the Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton duet 'Islands in the Stream'. The Bee Gees also sang 'Islands' in some of their recorded concerts which are well worth watching.

Try their younger brother Andy Gibb. The wrote songs for Al Green, Dolly Parton and Kenny Roger, Barbara Streisand,Otis Redding but he died before he could, Diana Ross, and many more. You just went down a sink hole of music.

One of my favorite songs written by the BeeGees is . To love somebody which was written for Otis Redding who sadly passed before he could record it. Michael Bolton sings this song and really does it proud. My fondest memories of all the disco BeeGees Era was being 14 and skating to all the BeeGees songs I'm 60 now but still a fan love my BeeGees ❤ enjoy your journey its magical. ❤❤❤

Sadly, Barry is the only one still living. They also had a very successful brother, Andy Gibb, who was a great singer in the 70s/80s. Barry has written so many hit songs for their group as well as for other artists.

@23rd MAB look up Andy Gibb, their youngest brother. Song... Shadow Dancing where it shows him singing not just a photo. He looks just like Barry Gibb with his fine self. 😂 He sings like Barry also. Matter of fact look up Andy Gibb and his songs. I think Barry wrote his songs to get him started.

As an old white guy I consider that a compliment. Keep up the good work. Also like the comment on your hoodie
