I couldn't agree more. Hopefully the new generation grows a new appreciation for real, quality and genuine music. All I seem to be hearing these days is autotune to the max. Sure, some of them are enjoyable as happy tunes, but I do miss the real deal. It's not that there is a lack of real music out there, but sadly it's a minority in the charts.

That's likely skin grafts on Barry's chest. When he was about 18 months old he pulled down a hot pot of tea onto himself and nearly died from his burns.
His mother Barbara said he didn't speak until he was three, because of the trauma.
    Now he is a star.
Barry was only nine years old. His twin brothers Maurice and Robin only six ,started out on a musical journey and became stars.Beloved by so many.
They are fantastic.RIP twins and Andy who also had a great musical journey of his own.

The one in the middle was Robin, and he died his hair red like his Irish Setter dog, lol!! Looks great!! Yup, Andy was a great singer too and had a very successful solo career!! It was only 1979, so Barry was only 33 here which means Andy was only 21, and the twins were only 30! Hugely famous and successful at this time!! Probably Alan Kendall on guitar???

Barry had no oil on his chest, the shining comes from his scarred chest. At the age of 16 months he poured a teapot of hot tea over his whole chest and almost died of it, 6 months in the hospital and then he did not speak for almost 2 years. They always said, they were no dancers and they didn`like dancing, although Barry can move his hips so well and sexy. Maurice and B also playarry live ALWAYS guitar (Mo also piano), so you can hardly make dance choreos!!!

@@sheayankee It was everything it appears to be, with the energy and excitement off the charts. I think I only sat down three times all night.

Barry Gib was accidentally burned on his chest with I think scalding water when he was18 mmonths old if I remember correctly. don't know if Barry was sweating that night, or if the light was picking up the scaring he has said he has on his chest. Bands back in the day, started out live and then got record deals. They were expected to be able to perform live just as wel as their recordings. The same is true of musical theater performers doing 8 performances a week. That said, the BEE Gees were pretty amazing.

  • @nancyberry1039
    @nancyberry1039 Рік тому +7

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet but the reason why Barry's chest looks so shiny is because when he was a kid, he sustained serious burns on his chest. I think it was a pot of hot water that he grabbed from the stove or maybe it just slipped & fell on him, i don't remember the exact details. The event traumatized him so badly that he didn't speak for 2 years. Can you imagine? Awful...
Then to recover and go from utter silence to eventually having that singing voice. Wow!

I saw them on this tour in Houston in 1979. It was exactly like you see here! So many screaming women, lol! Barry has burn scars on one side of his chest and they tend to look shiny under the lights, but actually they are de-pigmented. What you are seeing are white patches of scar tissue. He probably was a little sweaty on top of it, too. I think this was filmed at the Oakland Colliseum in California. In Houston they played the Summit and John Travolta came out for this song. Travolta was in town filming Urban Cowboy at the time. It was a wonderful concert! The band was Alan Kendall on lead guitar, Blue Weaver on keysboards, and Dennis Bryon on drums. The horn section is a collection of studio artists known as the Bonneroo horns. I think there were a couple of other guitarists and keyboardist hired for the tour that were not a regular part of their recording and touring band.

I saw them perform in September 1979, fifth row. It was awesome, best concert ever. Enough energy to light up Manhattan. Alan Kendall lead elec guitar, blu Weaver keyboards, drums Dennis Byron. They had a different group back in London in the 60’s. That is a scar on Barry’s chest. He almost died when he was a toddler. He pulled a boiling pot of tea down all over him. He almost died, the Drs told his mom he was a couple hours away from death. He didn’t talk for 2 years afterwards ( his mom said). The scars are mainly on his chest and upper right arm. He plays the guitar with his right hand, but he is left handed!

The Bee Gees were child musical prodigies in the late-1950s and early-1960s. By the time they performed this song from the "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack Album, The Bee Gees were in their 20th year together as a group. They were seasoned veterans, and knew how to put on a good concert performance. Prior to their 1967 debut on the American music scene, they made some TV performances in Australia. One of them that I recommend for you to react to, is their 1963 cover of the Bob Dylan song, "Blowin' In The Wind". It is available for viewing here on UA-cam.

But I've never seen this live performance play out in full. As this is one of my favorite songs by the Bee Gees, thank you so much for reacting to this particular video. It was amazing. (enjoyed your dancing as well!)

Dance is the only thing they could NOT do. But Robin (my FAV) and Andy could and did shake their little behinds😄 And YES, the instrumentals were totally Bee Gees worthy.

They were that good!! I love them!! Beautiful voices great song. So good to see someone that appreciates the Bee Gees the same as I do. I think they tried a couple of times to try to learn to dance, their music just made you want to dance. I would have loved to have ben there with you, I was a great dancer in my day. Great reaction!!

Thanks for your fun reaction! That's not oil on Barry's chest, though. Those are the scars from the burns he got as a toddler. Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born.
Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers.
Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley.
Try listening to the song Dreamin' on ua-cam.com/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/v-deo.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

Loved your reaction. They actually wore open jackets and white pants. Barry has a scar on his chest and one arm from being burned by hot water he poured on himself as a toddler. He said interviews the scar is quite large

Back in the day .. my days .. singers and groups actually had to have raw talent, skills and a voice (not counting Milli Vanilli) to match to find their fame and fortune. A 'no quit' attitude and some good looks didn't hurt either. We didn't have internet or PC's. Artists had to be willing to pound the pavement and knock on a few doors to sell themselves to the local talent scouts .. or the scouts would go out looking for that "new sound", and if you we're one of those starving artists, there was always that chance the scout would find ya plucking away on that old six-string in some local dive. If he liked what he heard, a record contract maybe offered. Record companies we're not in the habit of throwing their money away on every 'Tom, Dick, Nancy and Henry' that walked thru the door claiming they could sing. I'm sure there we're plenty of talented singers back then who put in a hard days work but unfortunately never got that big break. World tours and concerts we're good ways to promote a new album and keep yourself relevant. If the singer or group always sounded like shit live but pitch perfect in the studio, America new something 'stunk in Denmark' and their career would slowly start to die. Do they even have concerts anymore today?
Today .. not so much. Send a video to "The Voice", "America's Got Talent" or whatever the 'flavor of the month' is and let America pick ya .. OR .. throw some catchy notes together and put a video on #UA-cam like Beiber did. Did I mention that ya have to be 14 or 15 y/o but look 12? Wasn't Justin only 15 when he got signed? Today's singers are molded and shaped into the artist the record company wants you to be. Not the other way around. And the reason why studio versions and the LIVE performances do not sound anything alike is because of the autotuning and voice/sound enhancements used today. Take any artist now and put them in front of a live audience with just a mic and a guitar .. most couldn't carry a note/sing if their life depended on it.
Don't believe what sound or the next new voice ya hear on the radio today. Its all mostly
    smoke n mirrors.

Great reaction!!! Love your enthusiasm. If you haven't already, check out the Bee Gees playing live, "Nights on Broadway" on the "Midnight Special" show.. Maurice does the falsettos in that one, and he's really good. They ALL can hit those falsettos, which is part of the reason why their harmonies are absolutely incredible.

I grew up in a completely dysfunctional household, but the 1 cool thing we had goin was my dad's album collection. Everything from Cat Stevens, Janis, Kraftwerk, etc. AND The Brothers Gibb. My parents took me and my little brother to see em, Seattle, I was 9. This would've been 1976. I have a double CD & some of their best music was b4 disco, though everything they did was GOLD! It was fantastic. They will always be at the top of my list...ALWAYS!❤

I was 13 years old and had Andy's posters plastered all over my walls... He was gorgeous and all the brothers were multi talented. Barry got burned on his chest and I think right shoulder/arm when he was little. His mother said he didn't talk for two years after that accident.

Never saw them live but did experience their energy transported to the street! Walking down a Southern California street when a car stopped at the red light intersection with “You Should Be Dancing” pouring out…and all of a sudden everyone on all street corners was dancing! And everyone, I mean everyone was dancing and smiling!! Such joy - everywhere, all around us. All ages…most amazing thing I ever saw… with The Bee Gees you couldn’t help it…you were moving and you were smiling!! So, soo happy you felt it too! 😊
