  • It was gonna happen soon or later. The trucks alternator gave out and stopped working earlier this week. A quick trip to the parts store and we got ourselves a new alternator! In this video we show you how fast and easy it is to swap out the alternator in your Yukon XL. We hope this was helpful if you’re looking to do the work yourself. We tested the voltage after the install with a universal voltage meter. You can pick up one like we used at Canadian tire.

Thank you so much for this video I don’t have any experience with car mechanics and I was able to do this and teach my 3 young kids 16, 13, 10 we had a very proud moment 😀

"Wiggle , Wiggle" my favorite part... I'm on my way to get the alternator now to do this to my Denali. Replaced alternators before but glad you uploaded a video on the exact truck I'm about to work on. 👌🏻

Thanks so much for this video I literally had to take on and off the alternator myself 4 times and because of ur video it only took me 15min. The shop tried to charge me almost 300 bucks to do it and it took me 15 minutes. Thank u thank u

Thank you so much for sharing this video. Based on what I have seen in other videos for this SUV and trucks, the metal bushings on the bracket get "tighten" to the alternator during installation of the corresponding long bolts. Thus, when replacing it for a new alternator, they have to be "retracted," just like you did, gently tapping on them to push them out, so the new alternator can slide in, and then when you torque them, they will be in the right place again. Thank you for the very straight forward instructions. Some videos recommend disconnecting the positive lead of the battery before doing this procedure as precautionary step.

The last time a changed an alternator was on a 1978 GMC long ago. I have been hesitant too even try on these newer vehicles with sensors everywhere. After seeing this video and how smooth it was I’m changing mine. Great video the both of you were excellent. Thank you both.

I just want to say thank you for posting this video. My son and I just replaced our 2008 GMC Yukon XL alternator 20 mins ago using it. We’ve never done anything like this at all but hard times led us to take a chance and I’m glad we did!!!

Great video. Gave me the courage to swap my own alternator for the first time. Everything went smoothly and now I’d be comfortable changing belts etc too. Thank you!!

Very good video. Thank you. Question , does the battery really need to read 14.2v? Mine reads 12.4v. I want to replace my alternator because it’s original to my 2010 Denali and it’s probably time. I haven’t had any issues but just to be safe.

My boyfriend overfilled the power steering fluid and now the battery light is on, we have the same truck, could that be why?

What’s the red and black wire under the box on the driver side I can see it in your video as well tucked under looks like it hasn’t been attached to anything yet it has an eye lid

My battery is on the passenger side 5.3 2011 Yukon and is all red no black and bigger gauge installed my alternator and belt so far no issues just that mystery tucked away from sight. It actually reaches the alternator power and fits perfectly looks like it’s never been hooked up to anything

You have to look and see where that line ends up, maybe the other owner of your truck had some accessories put on??

Dude. Dont show people to use a hammer on those ears for those bushings. I’m surprised you didn’t break or crack those ears banging on it.
