If you have any questions please feel free to leave something in the comment section. Thank you.
High Amp for Denali and SLE 170 AMP

    Standard 150 Amp
    amzn.to/2GxUnV3
    Battery Sulfation Mode
The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V
for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2-3 minutes. The
BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.
    Charge Mode
The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met.
    • The wipers are ON for more than 3 seconds.
    • GMLAN (Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request) is true, as sensed by the HVAC
control head. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger and HVAC high speed blower operation
can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode.
    • The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F).
    • Battery State of Charge is less than 80 percent.
    • Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph)
    • Current sensor fault exists.
    • System voltage was determined to be below 12.56 V
When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to
a charging voltage between 13.9-15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated
    battery temperature.
    Fuel Economy Mode
The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C
(32°F) but less than or equal to 176 degrees, the calculated battery current is less than 15
amperes and greater than −8 amperes, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal
to 80 percent. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery
can be between 12.5-13.1 V. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the
    conditions described above are present.
    Headlamp Mode
The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the headlamps are ON (high or low beams).
Voltage will be regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    Start Up Mode
When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30
    seconds.
    Voltage Reduction Mode
The BCM will enter Voltage Reduction Mode when the calculated ambient air temperature is above
0°C (32°F). The calculated battery current is less than 1 ampere and greater than −7 amperes,
and the generator field duty cycle is less than 99 percent. Its targeted generator output voltage is
12.9 V. The BCM will exit this mode once the criteria are met for Charge Mode.

I have never changed so much as a tire in my own car. But when I was hit with a $900 estimate for a new alternator on my 2017 Yukon Xl Denali, I started searching UA-cam to see if it was a do-it-yourself project I thought I could handle. $250!for the OEM part on Amazon, watching your video 10 times and voila! I had it changed in under an hour and saved myself $650! Thank you!!!

This tutorial was compatible with my 2015 Suburban and I was able to swap the alternator out in about 45 minutes (that's including cleanup and putting away tools).
Only suggestion I would have is about the copper bushings. I had to use a curved-jaw Vise-Grip pliers to squeeze the bushing on the outside before I could move the bushings by tapping with a small tack hammer. It left a couple marks on the bushing, but I don't think they will be a problem.
The dealership wanted almost $800 to replace it, and my most trusted mechanic said it would be $720 at his shop. I was able to get the alternator from O`Reilly for $370, so this video saved me about $350. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Great video! I’m looking to replace mine pretty soon. But wanted to ask you something first before I dish out 400 dollars. I was driving mine for about two hours and decided to top it off at the gas station. After two minutes with the key still in the ignition it says my battery is low and I needed to turn the truck back on. I just got a new battery back in the summer of this year. It has long start ups and the headlights flicker as I’m driving down the road. Is this the alternator or something else? Thanks!

I’ve got the regular alternator, but with extreme radio demands and extra batteries there is a need for the higher power alternator. If I need more power from the alternator what must be done to enable this? If I install the Denali version will it function poorly or just throw warnings at me...can this be fixed by someone with hp tuner software? Increasing alternator power seems a very popular change. I can’t find Google info on this. I believe you, have the higher amp unit sitting here in a box, and now fear installing it. I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thank you for an awesome video-tapping the bushings out is brilliant, and not something I’d thought of!

Evening sir just seeing this video for the 1st time. I have a question in regards to that large black cover on top of the battery. A gentleman was replacing the battery, he disconnected the neg. & pos. cables the removed that cover and disconnected the 3 cables from the 13mm studs. When going back in with new battery he connected the neg.& pos. battery cables then the 3 wires on the studs but the stud with the 2 wires started to spark and got a little hot so he immediately removed the neg. from the battery. So then he reconnected the cables to the studs then the neg. battery cable. Was anything possibly screwed up going in that order because there was a burnt smell. Truck started fine.

Thank you for the video, it answered some of my questions. I have a 2015 Sierra 5.3L, I keep getting the run around by the dealership to my battery drain. I thought maybe it was the Alt because after so long the battery no longer charges and just drains, but the headlights and nothing inside dims like it should with an Alt no charging. I have already replaced the battery once. I've only had the truck for a year. I have the issue of the truck turning off when I turn into a parking space & at low speeds. Also when I shut it off, get a popping noise, then get back in and try to start it, all power is dead and it won't turn over. Takes 3-4 times to trying to start it, then it turns over, no issues. That happens ever 2-4 months. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

@@cotx79 Yes. I left a comment on this thread previously. The negative battery cable was damaged and not making a full connection. Whenever the battery shifted and the wires inside the battery cable weren't touching, the truck turned off. I finally took it back to the dealership enough times, they put an electrical expert on it to trace every wire and cable. That is the only way it was found. Once the negative battery cable was replaced, it ran like new.

@@krisgilbert3415 I literally just got home from my mechanics place. And it was a loose neutral wire also! At least that’s all it is I hope. He took off the ground that comes off the battery and cleaned up the area on the frame and reconnected it as well. The wire on the battery was so loose. I’m surprised it didn’t just pop off. I remember I had taken my truck to get an amplifier installed. Looks like they didn’t reattached the wire appropriately.

If it’s a one wire alt. The one wire only needs 12v. And the system should charge. To get rid of any codes that may occur, you will need to delete them by using hp tuners. That “should” work. However I’m not sure if the ecu or bcm will disable some functions of the vehicle if that plug isn’t in. Let me know!

I have a 2019 Suburban 5.3 LT. My battery keeps dying 1 or 2 times a week. Two time tested the battery and dealer said the battery is good. At autoshop Checked the alternator, and charging power shows 12,4 . They said alternator should be replaced. So, went to dealer, but they said if there was a problem with alternator, I would see the red battery sign on my dash or power saving mode sign. And also dealer said problem is not alternator but something is draining the battery when car is off.
So, I don't know who is right: Autoshop or dealer. Is there any idea?

I am not at this step yet, I still have to confirm battery and alternator are good before I start looking for unicorns.
