I am in northern New Mexico and I prospect every summer. I have property near Hopewell lake that has gold. Gold can be found in Red River and many other places in Taos County. Never found anything bigger than a pea sized nugget so prepare your sluice or panning for flour gold.
Can I join you sometime? My father is from Cañon Plaza and I grew up playing in those mountains. I’m a beginner prospector, I just got my first book and a panning set. I’d like to get a a metal detector next. Anyway, kind regards!
Going onto someone else's claim to mine or prospect is called "trespassing." "Claim jumping" or "overfiling," is when you file a claim over the top of a valid claim and then have a court find the original claim invalid. That forces the claim owner to file a new claim, but since the overfiled claim has an older date, it is now the new valid claim. So trespassing is stealing gold from a claim and claim jumping is stealing the claim itself.
Hello Prospector Jess. Great videos! You mentioned an expert about gold mining in New Mexico. Would you be willing to disclose the name/website of this individual? Thank you very much.
Where can I enjoy God's land and detect in Nevada without having to ask anyone for permission? Same for NM and Utah, how do I find out which lands I can detect on freely and which are private or don't allow it at all?
Red River is a very nice place to get gold. Elizabeth Town is also a great place to find gold. Only down side is it's all private property there. I have property at Hopewell lake and I find a lot of gold there as well. GPAA has a claim right up to my property line.
Hi Can I legally prospect for gold on property within the Navajo Nation? The area I want to prospect in is about 100-miles N/W of Albuquerque, NM which seems to be in the Navajo Nation. Do I need to get permission or other approvals before I go on that land?
Never seen a non-native get permission to gather anything from a reservation. Many reservations have areas non-natives can visit but as far as removing ANYTHING from those areas is prohibited.
If a Wells Fargo stage coach in the 1800's was robbed and the gold was buried on Indian reservation land, can the US government or Wells Fargo dig it up and claim it or does it belong to the Indian nation? Or, what if a citizen from Canada or other country, traveled to the US and buried his/her gold on Indian reservation land, can they go back and claim it or does it belong to the Indian reservation?
I've found gold in the Rio Grande. Nothing that would make you rich but there is gold in there. You can also find large amounts of garnets as well. Most are the size of sand granules but can find some about an 1" round. I like to find staurolites south of Taos.
Most of the folks in NM live in Albq or Las Cruces, not Northern NM but I agree that there is gold in the north and people are interested in it but "most of the people" do not live up north.
Prospector , one of these days I would love to show you something I found somewhere in the middle of nowhere New Mexico ...... It's super amazing !! ⛏️💰⛏️
@@cheezybutteredbitcorns9647 like 30 plus yrs ago I found a bar of something laying halfburried on the side of a lonely highway in southern New Mexico, had given it to my father whom he past away yrs ago, I went thru a stroke, but yrs later and thank God I got back on my feet and decided to clean out my dad's old garage and there I refound this bar of some sort of yellowish metal in 1 of my dad's old toolboxes, I tried to donate it to a city nearby and I still have the emails I was sent by city and state officials where they claim they can't accept it due that I'm a disabled person and that this thing could be worth a lot of money, which I do need but after yrs of reading and learning about this topic , I would love to gather a whole bunch of regular hunters and just go out and do a hunt, maybe someone could get lucky and find something, I've been reading in countless books and it's well known that that territory I found this piece was a trail often used by Pancho Villa and other bandidos and outlaws to get to and get back from Mexico and also it's historical documented it's also a path used by some settler's who came from Spain I believe, ship sank in the gulf of Mexico and walked all the way to Mexico city I believe and they were lost and actually traveled thru this territory where I found this bar of something, and you can easily tell it was melted a few times cause I'm no expert in this thing but you can tell right away by eyesight that hot melted "thing" was poured over cold melted material , and I really don't care if this thing is worthless, it's just mind boggling that this thing was found in the middle of a deserted highway on territory that's well known for all these historical events I just mentioned .... it's just wierd even to hold this bar in your hand, it has a wierd vibe to it .... but would love to know what it is and if there's more of these things laying around that one place. ....
There is gold is Capitan mts. Its near some of the biggest gold producing areas in NM outside of the Gila mts and Santa Fe county. Nogal, White Oaks, ect. The whole area actually produces. Some of it is still operational
Oro Grande south of Alamogordo on Highway 54 was named after gold being found there. People still pull gold out of there.

Can you do mexico? I live in the state of hidalgo. Just curious I've been gathering my tools to go out there this winter to try out my luck (:
"Black Range Tales" is a book on the subject. Reaching back in my memory I think the author is Jim Beckwith, or some such similar name.
Had to subscribe just for the amount of knowledge being given to us...

Where is it a great place in Alabama, to look for gold nuggets?
I agree, add something about the northern part of the state, that's were most of the people live and lots of free gold up north.

I live in Las Cruces NM, down here by El Paso Texas Yahoo! 🤗 I say there's gold in them there hills! 🤑👷💰💸💲💯🙏💞💎
Love that area.
Dose the Navajo land have gold
Do north NM
I like claim jumpers now. Especially ignorant ones that think the gold is in the overburden. Makes life easier.
The Spanish were here in the early 1500's.
Yes, gold discovery was one of their big exploration goals.
Believe me , their is a lot of gold in them deserts !! .... Believe me .... 😬
