Everyone was so nice to him in paradise yet he barely stayed for a few seconds because he was so determined to find his wife only to find out she doesn't feel the same anymore. Perhaps this was about learning to let go and embrace new things, like the hotdog. I really liked this short, especially how "Heaven" was portrayed, it felt very surreal and unique.

I felt different about heaven. I give my vision: I did not feel heaven as being too surreal, it was made of the simple things that give us joy on earth, looking just a bit different, sending the message that paradise is here if you change the way you look at things. Love, joy and pain come and go, flowers and beaches will always be there, even if we are not here anymore. Jerome failed again, putting love as the aim of his existence, and paradise gives him another chance to look differently about what's around. Earth is precious, let's try to stop destroying it because we will not have a second chance

i think it’s very poetic that he was looking for his wife in others throughout his entire journey, not soaking in their quirks or individuality but how they related to the women he yearned for. it’s a common thing people do and it was interesting seeing a subject like that expanded on in such an abstract way.

The art is magnificent, and the story is even more brilliant 👌It puts a "full stop", a realistic end to "eternal immortal love stories". The man breaks apart after confronting his wife's point of view, but soon we understand it's not the end! He is repairable! He is alive again, and he's hungry enough to enjoy his hotdog at the beach 😅
Life goes on, with or without others. The one and only reality is the person him/herself.

The animation and the visuals are excellent, and the story shows well the absurdity of people's ideas about the "afterlife". The conventional visons of paradise truly are nothing more than a refection of our own foolish desires, a convenient mirror showing our own imperfection. When he broke into pieces and then those ant fixed him, it was like us, breaking down and then even if we or someone try to fix the scars are still there. He ate his hotdog in the beach, proves that even with or without this scar we have to go on and live our life. Life goes on.

    For me, I feel like
The paradise Jerone reached isn't really the world her wife went to but the same world they enjoyed together before she left(He didn't really died). The flower garden is their home but now it feels just an empty plane surface and he feels lost in his own home. The table with telephone, phonebook , a vase with flower is their own and as he is still lost in processing the reality he bumps to table and only then the table comes to his sight. He dials to her wife's number in a hope maybe just last time, he could hear her last word... maybe for last time he could connect with her, but it is always left unanswered.
The jungles, the bars, the beaches ,the hotdog are the places/foods they went/enjoyed and create memories together. He refuses to accept the fact that she left him so he wanders around those places, and may be the descriptions he gives about his wife to different places/peoples were the get-up, drinks they had together when they were in that spot. His wife Maryline saying she doesn't want to stay together might be his own inner thoughts as she left him all alone. (Also her saying she is happy there might be msg to all of us not to worry about who left us and believing that they are doing just fine wherever they are.
Him breaking into pieces is I guess when he finally starts to realize she isn't really coming back home, she isn't really going to pickup phones, she isn't really going to be there in their favorite places, SHE IS GONE.
But at end after those insufferable pains and floods of emotions he decides to accept the reality and live with her memories(enjoying the hotdog they used to enjoy togather)

This is perhaps my favourite animated short ever as it puts equal attention to the story, the characters, and the animation and animation style itself. The most common trap in animation is to create a visual style which is very unique, but forget to apply it to an equally unique story. This is an emotional, human story, which truly deserves to exist on its own, without the amazing design of the animation.

To me it shows how people can have tunnel vision to reach their goal, whatever it may be but once they get there it's not the idealized version in their head that they thought it would be, and now the journey to get there is wasted because you only saw it as a means to end, or an obstacle to overcome to get what you want, rather then stuff to experience and enjoy along the way. If you put all your energy into the end goal it will be crushing when it doesn't live up to your expectations, especially if you completely neglected to enjoy the ride.

I juste wonder why we don't have animation movies with do much vibrant colours and unique different visuals like this ??
Honestly this 7: 44 short movie puts Disney's latest creations into shame.

I think its very interesting that jerome and marylin are the only one with bold outline in this short, it feels like jerome couldnt fully immerse himself in the wild soft watercolor world of heaven and still hung onto the life he had before and tried to stay grounded by having a goal (finding marylin)

Les décors, les couleurs, les jeux de lignes et de perspectives tronquées, la richesse hallucinante de détails,... tout, absolument TOUT est digne d'un film chef d'œuvre !
Ils sont rares pourtant les films d'animation aussi poétiques.

that was beautiful and sad. The animation is beautiful, it reminds me vaguely of Felix Colgrave, only this is considerably more sane and rational. I'd like to go to that heaven, although, I wouldn't have eaten the dog.
