Everyone was so nice to him in paradise yet he barely stayed for a few seconds because he was so determined to find his wife only to find out she doesn't feel the same anymore. Perhaps this was about learning to let go and embrace new things, like the hotdog. I really liked this short, especially how "Heaven" was portrayed, it felt very surreal and unique.
@@Broters1993 That has nothing to do with it. She loved him very much, but when you die, all earthly attachments fade away. And no one expects nor wants the ones they loved in life to kiII themselves just to be with them.
ideals can be a prison or motivation, try not to put all your eggs in one basket til you find the best basket for you, me no likey that he ate the dog after not eating the doggy in the first place, especially since he technically doesn't need to eat anymore, poor broken man, maybe he'll repair over time
I felt different about heaven. I give my vision: I did not feel heaven as being too surreal, it was made of the simple things that give us joy on earth, looking just a bit different, sending the message that paradise is here if you change the way you look at things. Love, joy and pain come and go, flowers and beaches will always be there, even if we are not here anymore. Jerome failed again, putting love as the aim of his existence, and paradise gives him another chance to look differently about what's around. Earth is precious, let's try to stop destroying it because we will not have a second chance
The bluntness of Jerome shattering into peices will always be my favorite part of the film. The way the frame lingers on his broken shards is just perfect
The art is magnificent, and the story is even more brilliant 👌It puts a "full stop", a realistic end to "eternal immortal love stories". The man breaks apart after confronting his wife's point of view, but soon we understand it's not the end! He is repairable! He is alive again, and he's hungry enough to enjoy his hotdog at the beach 😅 Life goes on, with or without others. The one and only reality is the person him/herself.
Ohhhh it was a metaphor the whole time! Poor Jerome was so preoccupied with returning to his wife that he failed to explore the beauty of his surroundings, and was thus unable to experience paradise. His kinda-suicide at the end is a great parallel to the shattering despair of a breakup or a loss, but he returns anew and learns to move on
The animation and the visuals are excellent, and the story shows well the absurdity of people's ideas about the "afterlife". The conventional visons of paradise truly are nothing more than a refection of our own foolish desires, a convenient mirror showing our own imperfection. Awareness is a great blessing, some say that's the only thing you need to be free.
Don’t forget about the sound design! Even just the cracking broken glass sound he makes while moving around after getting put back together tells you how fragile he is still
Anyone notice her feelings toward him changed as soon as she found out what he did to be there? I almost feel like if he had come there naturally things would have been different
I don’t blame her for that. She seemed to have found herself apart from him. Maybe if he had done the same on Earth after she passed away, things would be different :’(
I was the type of person that would try so hard to be with someone... change who I am to fit in another's perspective and everything else. Well, I'm still like that but trying to change. Changing and leaving yourself in second place because of someone is the worst thing you can do to yourself
I understand what you mean but I don’t think things would have changed. I think she was more surprised about the fact he did that and she had moved on anyway. I could see it going either way to be honest.
I'm wondering if the wife knew it wasn't his heaven. She asked "You didn't come here just for me?" And his answer is what shifted the mood between them. Maybe she truly didn't want them to be together, but I think it was more of she knew that was not his heaven. The beach was vastly different from her version of Paradise.
i'd say it's more because the way he said it implied he purposfuly "came to the afterlife" just to see her. as in, chose not to be alive anymore to see her sooner instead of waiting out his natural life before coming, which is the kind of energy she wasn't into
I loved the ending especially when he ends his life in paradise , but he is back again but with all his little pieces glued together and there is this clattering sound of all his broken pieces , it's like a metaphor that how all of us are broken and need to glue ourselves and carry on with life .❤
I love the artwork. I can see a lot of influence from experimental dark-age animated films (Yellow Submarine, Allegro Non Troppo, Twice Upon a Time, etc) but it feels like its own well-thought-out thing instead of just being derivative of those. Elevating a lost style.
after just the first few minutes, I told my partner "this is so heavily influenced by the yellow submarine!" and then just a few minutes later it had blossomed into a whole new beautiful unique thing in of itself.

The dog offered itself up and was still wagging its tail maybe they wanted to be eaten, maybe in this world it's not a painful/unenjoyable thing for them...

To me it shows how people can have tunnel vision to reach their goal, whatever it may be but once they get there it's not the idealized version in their head that they thought it would be, and now the journey to get there is wasted because you only saw it as a means to end, or an obstacle to overcome to get what you want, rather then stuff to experience and enjoy along the way. If you put all your energy into the end goal it will be crushing when it doesn't live up to your expectations, especially if you completely neglected to enjoy the ride.

I'm blown away. This was so good ❤️
This is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! 💖💖💖
Magnifique
Amazing art direction!
This was beautiful, "What dreams may come" being a clear inspiration. I loved the fact that the ending saw Jerome find peace being with himself, and the hotdog lol.
the story is really really good! really can't predict what's coming next. AND THE DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!! the most shocking thing might be the last scene with the dog hahahaa
Good work!
this made me cry. its beautiful
My favorite animated short!! Thanks that I can watch it over and over again, so beautiful!
Le style des dessins me rappelle des courts métrages de la série Sesame Street que je regardais comme petite fille pendant les années 70/début des 80. Plein de nostalgie pour moi!
best thing i've seen in a ages
si vous avez un jodorowsky, ne importe pas qui, le projet sera excelent. Bonne travail! Salutations de la Colombie
Eine sehr schöne Geschichte, wunderbar gestaltet!
This made my brain feel some type of way and I loved it.
Very original and poetic, congrat !
What a Beautiful Style ^^
that was beautiful and sad. The animation is beautiful, it reminds me vaguely of Felix Colgrave, only this is considerably more sane and rational. I'd like to go to that heaven, although, I wouldn't have eaten the dog.
The style makes me remenber a lot the Beatles animations style
Unbelievably beautiful film. And such wonderful animating!!
