- Shino Aburame is perhaps one of the most underrated characters in the Naruto series, if not the most underrated. Some would argue that if the chunin exams weren't changed before the Sasuke Uchiha vs Gaara fight, that Shino would have been given the rank of chunin and perhaps would have been a jonin during Naruto Shippuden's starting episode.
That's why in today's edition of the wasted potential series we're going to look at just why Shino is so severely underrated by the fandom and should have been better used in the Naruto anime, as well as Boruto the anime.

Shino was the most ninja-like ninja of the Konoha 11. His serious nature was treated like a joke but I liked how logical and caluclating he was and how serious he was about being a shinobi. Major MAJOR waste of a great character

Shino should’ve fought Sakon/Ukon and should’ve been part of the Sasuke retrieval squad; the Sound Ninja 4 deserve Shino’s ruthlessness and terrifyingness, but no Kishimoto has a b-er for Orochimaru and his minions prospering and not getting their proper treatment. In his two fights in part 1, I just felt bad for Zaku because of his origin story and how Orochimaru used him. Kankuro’s fight was good but a bit short and he barely won. That’s why Sakon/Ukon or even maybe Kidomaru would be great match ups and foils for Shino. He could’ve at least fought the Reanimated versions but that’s Kishimoto I guess. I really hate him after all the missed opportunities and rushed writing in both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden

Yes it seemed in the end dat only Naruto n Sasuke cn do anything n everything n the rest just waited for them to show up and save the day.. In the war until they came the other characters still did something to say the least.. Bt in Boruto history is going to be repeated as any serious missions or situations r always for him n his team while the rest r just catching animals etc. N once the manga arcs start it's going to be Boruto Kawaki Boruto Kawaki.. The other characters r already foreshadowed to be not of much use or screentime... I hope they don't do that to them.

@@Seasonal-Shadow_4674 you're right Shino can be freakishly strong n it won't have taken him much time to finish them off or at least scare them off but i guess that's the reason he wasn't in the squad as the sound 4 was tried to be shown as the strong ones n how much of a challenge they can be. The writers made Shino bad in Boruto. The kids don't know his real power. Maybe in the future...

They should’ve done more of a back story on Shinos clan or more characters with shinos bug jutsu. That would be cool af. He was slept on heavily.

When the akatsuki was first introduced I always expected the Konoha 12 to pick them apart throughout the series.
•Sakura got Sasori
•Naruto should've only got pain not kakazu too.
• Sasuke should've only had itachi not Deidara too.
• Shino, Hinata and Kiba should've teamed for deidara. Hinata could prolly see and diffuse chakra in clay explosives. Kiba would pressure deidara while shino snuck bugs to paralyze and beat him. Would be perfect
•Lee, Ten Ten and Neiji should've beat Kakazu. With lee breaking all his hearts in a flurry of hits showcasing his 8 gates progress since fighting gaara.
• Inoshikacho gets hidan avenging asuma in same way.
• Kisame should've been a Kakashi/Guy fight as a milestone for their later power ups against madara. It would be great if by beating Kisame they gained the stored chakra from samahada adding some logic to their crazy power boosts... kakashi especially.
• Konan should either remain the same killed by obito for thematic purposes or she should have fought Sai/Yamato. Both Yamato and Sai were hyped but did nothing. I would've loved to see an ink vs paper fight and Sai somehow use Konan's paper to his advantage. And it'd be great to see Yamato actually win something using wood style like a boss defending the explosives and stuff for them instead of just being fodder.
The series was good but if Kishimoto did this style instead it would've been MUCH better on some Togashi Phantom troupe type level of writing.
Something else that would make the series better is if Itachi was lowkey setting all this up.
Like him and the elders/hokage/Danzo of the leaf were purposely setting the akatsuki up to be in situations where these fights ended up happening. Giving up info on abilities and stuff.
And Obito eventually catches on but doesn't wanna fight Itachi of course so tells sasuke about Itachi and his location so he can kill him.
Then we wouldn't have the conundrum we had with sasuke loving Itachi but somehow using that love to feed hatred for the leaf when Itachi gave his life for the village.
Instead it would be Sasuke going completely to the dark side and saying I hate the leaf AND you for killing my family and clan... PERIOD. And idc about your reasons.
Then we'd all be watching the fight lowkey rooting for Itachi cause we just found out he's the series real hero but we'd still wanna root for sasuke too cause we've been on his side the entire show anticipating him beating Itachi and getting revenge one day.
Itachi ultimately dies the same way cause he loves sasuke. Sasuke then gets the eye transplant from Obito but immediately starts having visions because Itachi put a genjutsu in his eyes to show Obito working WITH Itachi to kill the clan...
This makes Sasuke even angrier than before cause he knows the guy that killed the clan also used him to kill his brother and intends to hook him up to the gedo statue like Nagato.
So sasuke with a new level of hatred turns against Obito since Obito killed his precious clan and ruined his life in every way. This leads to him eventually teaming with naruto to beat Obito, madara, kaguya etc since they all technically set the clan up for failure in a way and sasuke wanna smoke ANYONE against the Uchiha.
But after beating the main conspirators, Sasuke turns his hate to the village and naruto dukes it out with him one last time. Naruto wins but spares Sasuke and does some talk no jutsu on em.
Sasuke concedes continuing to resent the village but owing naruto his life and appreciating his friendship considering he still cares for someone as dark and twisted as him. He respects and values Naruto so much that he never goes against him or the village again despite his resentment towards them. He eventually travels the world for enlightenment and moves on from his hatred and eventually takes sakura as his bitch so he can at least beat naruto at one thing. 😉 The end

Especially considering that he is from one of the "4 Noble Clans of Konoha", we definitely should have had at least 2 big fights from him; Kishimoto was an idiot. He was lazy and it showed. Shino should have fought Kidomaru, and then have Neji fight Kimimaro; but I get that it was supposed to be Lee's big recovery moment and surprise to the fans... another cool fight would have been: Shino & Kankuro vs Sasori.

Even if they decided to waste his potential as a ninja, Kishimoto should’ve given him a girlfriend/wife. Most Leaf shinobi of his generation can say that at the very least.
Oh I always knew the bugs were going to be a hard sell with girls. Unless he found a female Aburame, or just a very, very weird girl. And there have been some. But if I recall the one girl that was into bugs was an enemy shinobi. And this was long before Naruto made the world get along, and Shino didn't exactly have Naruto's power to turn enemies into friends. He'd have better luck using Edo Tensei to bring back Kidomaru. That's just how unlikely it was that he was going to find a match.

Really, the only actual opportunity for romance I saw with Shino was with Fu, the seven tails jinchuuriki. Both have affinity for insects, both bear something within them that most people revile, and both were completely slept on in the series. I honestly thought it was going to happen too, in the chuunin exams filler(shippuden) when he is in the same room as her and noticed her abnormal chakra. I thought that their teams were going to show down in the next test of the exam, and they would face off or something. Nope, team 8 got team basement dweller to compete with...

Naruto is a classic but, Naruto is about 4 arcs and several character developments of being a classical masterpiece. Series had likable characters with a great story line but we can't do anything now😆.

I really appreciate that you made this video. Shino is my favorite character in the series (second is Boruto lol). I feel that the Boruto anime did do him some justice by giving some character development and screen time (latest episodes lol). I wish he got to fight more in the series and more development between him and his brother, Tourne (the root member he fought in the war). You should really watch the episode where Shino is fighting his brother in the war, it is good shino episode. There is also another episode focused on Team 8 in the war where Shino gets to show his intelligence.
LazyPainter i still didn’t like him being a teacher and showing this humorist side of him like preparing a party with teddy bears and him dressing with a weird custom or him being kicked in various occasions for trying to stop fights. I wouldve preferred for him to be a leader of the anbus along side with sai or be the new ibiki even if he had less screen time.

Hope you do one of these about Tenten. I love Teneten. IMO she’s the toughest of the girls of that generation, with the exception of Temari. She was never one to cower like Sakura or act like an idiot around Sasuke like Karin. But she was wasted. We hardly got to see her!

what irritated me was how they wasted TenTen more than Shino. She was a summoning prodigy and a weapon master. She also had the potential for perfect chakra controlled weapons like how a puppet master controls his puppets. Imagine her 100 or 1000 blades dance against someone who is not herself or temari, imagine what that would have done to Kidomaru, or the sound ninja in the chuunin exams. Her jutsu could easily go toe to toe with 100 puppet performance too as it don't matter if they get hit or not the poison is ineffective. Also what more could be done in just hand to hand/weapon to weapon combat with someone like her at the forefront.
This is a great segment bro. I appreciate how you ALWAYS keep your videos fresh. It's very clear you care about the Naruto community. To answer your question I do believe Shino's potential is wasted. He should have been used in the beginning of the 4th War arc (instead of Captain Yamoto) to gather information on the enemy. Shino's skills make him excellent for infiltration, reconnaissance, and gathering Intel and sending it over great distances. He should have been the one to face off against Sasori and Diedera. We've already seen puppet master battles between Kankuro and Sasori and Lady Chiyo and Sasori. Why have Kankuro and a reanimated Sasori again???? Wasted potential.

That’s one thing they went horribly wrong with this anime it had so much potential and is good already but had they given the side characters more depth this anime would have been near perfect

To be fair Shino technically lost to Kankuro. Some say Shino won others say a draw. So Kanuro went down cause he ran out of chakra thanks to Shinos bugs, Shino at the same time went down cause of Kanuros poison. So if Shino didn't get any help from his dad he would have been laying their until some of Kanuros chakra came back (which it did cause he met up with Gaara and Temari, so needless to say he would have been able to get up and kill Shino while he was still down by the poison.
It was easier for Shino to send bugs to inform his father to rescue him than for Kankuro to wait for his chakra to come back while Shino's bugs are still on him.
But shino was always 1 of my fav character until they camouflaged him.
The thing with Shino is they made him to op to start off. He couldn’t really participate much in part 1 since he’d beat most characters with his bugs but even in shippuden when he would’ve been able to have a fight where he struggles they don’t give him anything. The most notable thing he does in shippuden is throw a bug ball at tobi and that’s just sad

Real_Slim_Shady I agree he would’ve struggled with high tier part 1 characters but you have to admit he wouldn’t have to work as hard as the others. I guess it’s a mute point though since the sound 4 were basically made to give the people facing them a difficult fight so they easily could’ve just put him into the fray instead of the others
I also think that Tsunade is a pretty wasted potential to. Being a descendant of someone godly strong like Hashirama, doesn't give you just " life force ". And giving the fact that Tsunade is a medical ninja, and that Hashirama was able to manipulate the wood, it would've only make sense if Tsunade was able to devolop at least some crazy techniques that involves the manipulation of some deadly plants or flowers. The plants were and still are the base of the modern medicine. She could've summon some giant toxic carnivour plants to attack the opponents, she could've had some flowers that discretely could've drugg the opponents through a delicate smell from a long range, she could've have some plants that quickly catch the opponents legs from underground, she could've developed some elixirs from some plants, that could've boost ( when needed ) even more her large lvl of stamina, or at least to boost the stamina of her allies, and the list could go on, after all Chiyo used to call her a vixen, and Tsunade has the figure of a mother vixen character.

The females from Naruto were only hyped through statements, but when it was about the real action, they never got crazy OP abilities, properly development, and good backstories like the male ones, Kaguya may be an exception when it comes to the power, but her development is a rushed trash and a plot hole to end the series. The Uchiha's were the most spoiled here. And it's not like the show should've necessarily make the females to look strong, but at least Kishimoto shouldn't give us the false hope, that there are some very strong potentially females, when in fact they are not quite like this. It's the false hope that annoyed me the most. And by the way, by shonen women, you reffer about all the anime series?.
Geoldes Alexandru Haralambie well not all anime. Shonen is just a genre of anime that is action anime directed at a young male audience. But within that genre it's often that female characters get the ax which in some ways is understandable since the audience is boys you want the strongest characters to be boys. But like you said, saying that a character is strong and then making them weak and useless is much worse than just not having many strong females. Some shonen are better at showing females love than others with naruto being one of the worst at that lol but the general trend in shonen is that females typically won't get the op abilities they could potentially get logic-wise because the series will typically favor the male characters being the strongest. So if Tsunade got the abilities you said she'd easily be one of the strongest characters but kishimoto doesn't want that. She logically could and should be stronger than Jiriya and orochimaru considering nothing about those 2's genes implies they should be as strong as they are... but they are anyways. She isn't the strongest because, let's be honest, who even wants Tsunade to be the strongest Sanin lol. Even I don't. In fact I bet the only reason Kishimoto even said she's the first's granddaughter is to give a woman a valid reason to be a sanin. Basically saying to hang with them you gotta at least have some god genes if you're a female. So yeah that's how it is in shonen. The males get favored because boys wanna see strong, cool men. That's how it is

Shino Aburame is my favorite character!
I alwas thought Shino was wholesome in battle. He was super intelligent like Shikamaru and he had super useful jutsus. In my opinion he would have dragged Sasuke back by his hair if Shino was a part of the Sasuke retrieval mission. It's so sad that he didn't get any fights in Shippuden. I craved for more screentime/manga panels for Shino. My heart aches listening to you.
I didn't mind him becoming a teacher, I actually like that he is present in the Boruto series. At least he got more screentime.
I would have loved to see him playing a bigger role when they 'fought' Tobi. I also would have liked for team 8 to fight one of the akatsukis. I even would have liked to see more of the Aburame vs Konan fight. Drag it out a little longer, show Shinos strength, even if she escapes at the end, I don't mind. I just want to see more of his interesting skillset and his character as a whole.
Shino should’ve fought Sakon/Ukon and should’ve been part of the Sasuke retrieval squad; the Sound Ninja 4 deserve Shino’s ruthlessness and terrifyingness, but no Kishimoto has a b-er for Orochimaru and his minions prospering and not getting their proper treatment. In his two fights in part 1, I just felt bad for Zaku because of his origin story and how Orochimaru used him. Kankuro’s fight was good but a bit short and he barely won. That’s why Sakon/Ukon or even maybe Kidomaru would be great match ups and foils for Shino. He could’ve at least fought the Reanimated versions but that’s Kishimoto I guess. I really hate him after all the missed opportunities and rushed writing in both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden
He got something of everything from Sasuke coolness, Shikamarus intelligence, and Kakashis seriousness in a fight

Shino blowed off Zaku's arms in the Chunin Exams preliminary rounds (this is in the manga) and almost killed Kankuro with his bugs and was a guy with one of the most interesting abilities in the show. I was so pissed when they made Kiba be apart in the Sasuke Retrieval Mission but not Shino. He was such a tactical and cool character but in the end was a wasted character

I'd like to see what Shino would had done if he joined the crew in "Sasuke Retrieval Arc". Don't even get me started on how Boruto anime are using the character. Him, Ten-Ten are the most underrated & misused characters in Naruto/Boruto.
When I saw the title of this video I was like hell yeah! Shinzo is one of my favorite characters behind naruto and shikamaru ! I love how he and shikamaru weren’t crazy flashy but used their stealthy tactics to fight and I saw potential from part one of naruto and I got mad when Shinzo wasn’t used or as you say wasted ! Interesting. Depending on who won in gaara vs sasuke that winner would have had to fight shino.
I would say gaara would win. His sand has chakra in and a mind of itself so I would think that would protect his body from bugs going into him or biting or what ever. Shino is very slow and if he tried to plant a beetle by swinging on gaara then he's pretty much dead. Even from a far shino is in danger and very reliant on his bugs reaching gaara un-noticed. Realistically I don't see anything shino could do if Gaara is actually going for a early kill with no bullshitting. I am open to theory of how shino would win so let me know
Edit: before shino fought sasuke or gaara I think he would have to win against tamari if I am doing this correctly
@@Stoneyghostboy the way i could see Shino winning mainly comes down to the fact that gaara went all out against Lee while Shino didnt have to reveal as much against Zaku. So Shino could have some special bugs prepared against gaaras sand. but imo i still think Gaara would win just saying a scenario that couldve been possible.

All honest in the beginning when shino was introduced it would've been cool if was secretly with the leaf's anbu and was using his bugs to investigate what was going on and keep a eye on naruto and Sasuke instead of Kakashi finding out kobito was a spy shino found out and later on the we find out about his past and how he join the Andu and why he was assigned to that mission...

I watched the entire canon naruto part 1 just before shippuden came out. I decided to wait until the anime is completed before I continue watching, as I am not into waiting a week for an episode, i like to binge them.
But now after hearing how it all turned out, I'm honestly not even sure if i even should bother. I don't even like Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura, but i loved pretty much every other character from konoha 12. And Shino was probably my favorite of the bunch, he was the most interesting and mysterious of them all, and seemed the most powerful too. But i liked them all, and to hear that they were pushed aside and barely given any attention is a deal breaker for me.

spider : he can use their webs to trap and even cut his opponents
butterfly : he can use their wings dust to put his enemies under paralysis make them fall a sleep poison them or putting them under a genjutsu
cicadas : that noisy insect you can hear in the trees can help shino by weaponizing its sound like tayuya he it can maybe produce sound waves sound genjutsu and voice imitation
fireflies : this is the strongest insect i know that can instantly put shino into kage level if he manage to use their glowing ability he can possibly use it as particle energy then weaponize it as a laser and as explosives
with his beetles whom which can enter and feed into human or animals body then kill the carrier in the process is a good weapon in a close combat fight aburame is a underrated clan whom would have been rival senju clan and uchiha clan

Am I the only one who also feels like the female characters in the series were wasted and just made to be vaginas with crushes??? Like you could tell Kishi doesn't actually know how women are people! He just redouced them a gender that crushes on boys or just weak and irrelivent. All of their abilities were extreemly dumbed down and wasted. Aburame Shino was one of my faves and I am so sad they don't put no respect on his name bruh. Naruto is an amazing anime filled with nothing but wastefd potential!
