- When Iwabe was first introduced, he immediately grabbed the attention of a lot of fans. Some asked was Iwabe Kawaki and a lot more openly marveled at the fact that as an academy student iwabe had quite a bit of skill with earth release jutsu. He came off to many fans as a shinobi who was born in the wrong era, being more better suited to grow up with the generation that produced Naruto and Sasuke. However, after becoming a genin, a lot of fans will agree that Iwabe has left quite a bit to be desired, not doing a whole lot.
In today's installment of the wasted potential series, we're going to take a look at the criminally wasted potential of Iwabe!

When i saw this character, like you said i loved him! I saw something in him to become great, but the plot rapes always great characters
Honestly, he and most of the other characters are just on the back burner right now. I say give it time and patience.
Personally, iwabe, denki, and metal would be a great Raid/Swat/ counter-terror operations team, especially in terms of rescue, demolition, procurement during a joint assault operation. At some point there will be a possible raid on a Kara base and we could see them take point with denki disarming automated defenses, iwabe smashing the doors off, and Metal dashing into the mow down the grunts.
Denki has the highest probability of counteracting Kara in non-combat ways. He's the most tech savvy of the generation and Kara is all about tech.
I would of accepted iwabe on team 7 rather than mitsuki with his “boruto is my sun” bullshit

Metal lee, sumire and Iwabe should’ve been a squad with hanabi as sensei and we can just erase the other 3. All 4 of them have wasted potential

Out of the kids from Boruto’s generation I like Iwabe a lot. So far they’ve not used him to his full potential at all but hopefully post-timeskip he kicks a little ass.
nope. At this rate, boruto is like shippuden. It wastes characters and concepts by doing nothing with them and simplifying it down to appeal and cater to the masses which is nothing but teenagers and children who don't even have the brain capacity to understand complex concepts and ideals. Only that Naruto is more complicated and far better at explaining them while boruto is stuck primarily just to copy DBZ

I think you're onto something about the wasted potential to build Sarada's character too; imagine if their rivalry bloomed into a deep friendship (or Romance) and was cut short by his death, or her need to kill him.
Let's be honest.... the entire new generation (maybe except Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki) are all examples of wasted potential. The major problem with the Boruto series is that you can tell it's not written by Kishimoto Sensei.... there are things Kishimoto might have done, that Kodachi and the Boruto anime team has just failed to do.
I will reserve judgment if Iwabe was wasted for the time being , but those are valid points that i didnt think about
That said i feel the anime is slowly developing iwabe so i think he will be given his moment to shine

Everyone has been shafted and ignored just for the sake of boruto kawaki and kara.
Like at least Naruto and Shippuden gave so many shinning moments and development to the surrounding cast.

Because I don't remember the Cho Cho arc being in the manga, or the boring Mitsuki arc, or any of these other lame garbage fillers that the anime is pumping out right now. What I meant is that as of right now the Boruto anime is a slice of life little kids show whereas the manga is currently actually producing content worthy of being called an epic battle shonen. Ofcourse the anime will eventually adapt the manga arcs but my point is that as of right now they're not doing that and that all the anime original content is lame in comparison to the manga content. It's pretty evident that the anime will only start to get good once it starts adapting the manga material.

They really do waste him. They are making the same mistake they did in Naruto by forgetting about other characters and their development when they have a lot of potential. I think they should slow it down and have some episodes so show the development of the other teams so that Team 7 isn't so far ahead at such an early age. I would love to see some of the other teams have unique jutsu particularly I want to see Iwabee get lightning release and develop an explosion release kekkei genkai and even see him use that with some kenjutsu. In terms of balance and some logic from naruto I think konohamaru should be captain ino-shika-cho and moegi captaion of team 7 and Udon should be more powerful with also some improvements on konohamaru and Moegi. Hopefully they give him some moments after a time skip.

I think it might be too early to say if Iwabe is wasted potential. Feels like we're not that far enough into the series yet, although that might be the slow pacing. Choji was shit for years and years until the Fourth Shinobi War. I feel like most of the underrated genin might have to fight and team-up on some of the the Outer members of Kara to make them seem decent. They could make Iwabe into a Kiba-type of guy though, which would be horrible. Can't wait for that Team Ebisu theory about Ebisu training people with Hokage level potential. If it makes any of the Team Ebisu members seem even slightly less underwhelming, that would be great.
well iwabi is like the big brother of this generation.. well he is atleast 1 to 2 years older than boruto... i can see him sacrificing himself to save boruto and stuff like that... or the guy that want to be left as rear guard while his friends escape..

I really love the Boruto teams and hopefully they all appear in manga so manga fans stop complaining about their very existence.
Certainly a good point, this character, did stand out at the beginning of the Anime, it would be nice to see some of these other teams more in the manga to get their light to shine.
I do like the team up with Iwabe, Denki & Metal Lee, lately in the anime, not alot of love is going towards that team, Sumire an her team got their lil arc in boruto, all the writers need to put their heads together, to help bring some redemption to these characters

I really wish they had split up boruto Mitsuki and sarada. I would have liked to see boruto on a team with shikadai and sarada on a team with metal lee. Just think of the new rivalry’s and combos would could have seen by switching things up and then all teams Would get valid screen time and progression

I wonder who their jonin is. Iwabe isnt the only wasted potential. I notice when they introduce other genin boruto always seems to come out of nowhere. He doesnt really even interact with the, and he leaves. I really would like him to create his own justu becase shadow clones and rasengan are boring to watch. Choji gets more screen time the Hinata and i would like to see her train sombody. Like her purpose was literally to be a mom...

personally i dont like iwabe.. but i agree he shud've had moments/screentime during the new gen ninja swordsmen.. actually i beliv every supporting cast shudve had their highlights already for their character development.. not just on fillers but on actual fights like the on mist, mitsuki retrieval, etc instead of always focusing on boruto's team.. we loved every konoha 11 since they were built well thru their backstories & epic fights..even team gaara back then..

Nigga you need to stop underrating characters so early in the series.
115 episodes is enough time to judge. Some anime don't even get that many episodes. If this was an anime that went straight off a weekly manga, this would be roughly 80 chapters of the manga, filler included. That's enough time.
I'm not sure when or, if this will be relevant any time soon, but Iwabe's clan name is Yuino. But for now sadly, Iwabe you're wasted potential.

But I've always appreciated his fighting style and Earth release. He needs another change in chakra nature to stand out, but he will get his moment to shine. Everyone knows Sadara should been the one who taka members are close to she should been the one to calm Jugo and develop her by using them and they can talk about her father and his changes
When reading the title, I thought it was premature to write Iwabe off as wasted potential. But after hearing what you had to say I agree with you. But, I do think there’s still room for hope and growth. Think about it, there’s still a ton of time between where the anime is at now and when Boruto and Kawaki fight. So who knows, Iwabe could develop greater skill and maybe become a chunin and live up to the potential he was shown to have.

115 episodes of bullshit n it makes me upset cuz we love the Naruto franchise so much and our standards are really high and they're just watering down everything we got they need to work more on the stories and building up the characters better in naruto damn everybody when we first seen them were real fucking interesting with a good backstory in boruto we get some dumbass episode to build the characters up for example the new episode with the kid that wants to be like Kakashi
not all episodes were trash their were some really good ones but 81% of the Boruto anime is anime only content meaning that 19% of the Boruto anime is manga content which is really bad
And don't even let me get started on CAT EPISODE.
Orochimaru and Tsunade need to become the new elders. The writers need to get rid of the current ones.
