*Brooke's Belief in Ridge* Brooke offering to give up control of the company the instant she finally has Ridge proves what many of us have been saying: that the takeover was all about Ridge and the fact that he rejected her (yes it was about Stephanie too but I’ll get to that in another episode). The show even underlined this by intersecting the Belief takeover with Ridge making a choice between Taylor & Brooke and culminating in the night he got Brooke to sign the Belief contract before telling her he was staying with Taylor. The subsequent takeover wasn’t about power and money - Brooke refuted that by deciding to relinquish Belief to the Forresters _twice_ before Fate intervened (when Ridge took the wrong contract and when Steve Crown interrupted the boardroom meeting). Instead it was because she felt betrayed by Ridge (and the Forresters) and having the company was a way to remain a central part of their storyline. It gave her power over (and proximity to) them and by working closely with Ridge on the men's line, she was able to cause problems in his marriage to Taylor. Recall that she was willing to give the company back to them when she thought Ridge and Taylor’s marriage was on the rocks. And when Taylor disabused her of that notion, Brooke reneged on her offer. But now that Taylor's gone and she finally has Ridge, she doesn't need Forrester Creations anymore. (I wrote about Brooke’s motivations in *episode 1714.* Also in *episode 1584,* I wrote about how Connor and Brooke saw the takeover differently: while he was focused on business and power, she was focused on betrayal and personal relationships) What makes Brooke interesting is that she’s not a static character, she’s always occupied this middle ground where she can be different things: protagonist/antagonist, heroine/villain, social striver/romantic. But Brooke doesn’t see herself that way. From the beginning of the series, she has viewed herself as a heroine in a romantic drama, often rewriting the history of “the last seven years” to make herself seem completely innocent and blameless. (For me personally this is what makes Brooke frustrating as a character because I find her more relatable as a class underdog than a romantic heroine) That’s why, as *Annie* noted today, she’s still reconstructing reality to make it seem as if other women are making plays for Ridge and she’s coming out on top. Brooke is going full-tilt into the romantic heroine role she's always wanted to play. From the beginning her dream was to become Mrs. Ridge Forrester, not CEO of Forrester.
