*Sally, Stephanie and the Legal Drama* The Sally/Stephanie exchange underscores what I've written before (see episode 1866 & 1873) about the show turning a romantic drama into a legal drama. Sally reminding Stephanie, "You are not in charge of this courtroom" and Stephanie essentially agreeing, "I couldn't do anything about this trial even if I wanted to" highlights that the plot is now on auto-pilot and Stephanie's not in control of it anymore. At the same time, Sally's insistence that Stephanie could call the whole thing off if she wanted to indicates that Stephanie has merely taken her foot off the pedal, that she could still take back control of the plot and spare Dylan and Jessica (and the viewer) from this dreary storyline. Sally's seemingly contradictory statements (that Stephanie _doesn't_ control things but _could_ control things) are a form of social critique i.e. that the law is merely an extension of the Forresters' privilege and power and that they are exercising it to deal with what _should_ be a private family matter. Sally wants to take this storyline out of the realm of legal drama and return it to a domestic drama.
I agree that both things are true - the case _is_ out of Stephanie's hands but only because she _allows_ it to be. She is willing to let the plot run its course because it's a course she agrees with. If she didn't (like when Burke was after Thorne in 1988), she certainly _would_ interfere. But she doesn't want to be the one sentencing Dylan. She is willing to allow the "laws of the universe" to do that.

James, you meddling fool! Why don't you stay in LA and respect Taylor's choice to live forever with Prince Omar?
Yeah at least she wouldn't have to worry about Omar jumping back and forth between her and Brooke. I mean all Ridge did was cause Taylor heartache and pain.
@@DestinyPiferThat's right! Taylor's first husband, Blake Hayes, said it very clearly to Taylor : "Ridge is like a drug for you." And just like any drug, Ridge's effect on Taylor can only be noxious and harmful!
@@DestinyPiferthe only problem is, that Taylor does NOT love Omar the way she loves Ridge......🤫😏
