@passion for supercars performance cars everyone knows they strayed from the original formula, BMW was at its peak in the e39 and e46 days. e92 was good as well, but the steering feel and driver involvement isn't what it used to be on a lot of the newer models.
Thank you for your excellent review. If I didn't have a Porsche Spyder on order I would consider this as my daily driver. Keep up the great work Guido.

Just love your reviews. I hope you get the traction you deserve, you talk about the actual driving so much more, and give the info that potential buyers want to hear - whether it’s good or bad! Thank you 🙏🏻 I have owned an M2 which I loved, only had it for 8 weeks before my new car came and I had to swap. I’m now looking at either a M2 Comp Manual, or an M1 Coupe. I found the M2 great fun, though anything over 100mph was scary.. ! (Twitchy) Have you driven an M1 Coupe? Between these two which would you go for? I would be driving it daily, not thinking about money or residuals or any of that crap ; )
Thanks for your kind feedback! As a daily I'd totally have an M2 Com and get a cheap deal on one now. The 1M Coupè is amazing, but for me it would be more of a weekend car to preserve, not something to run many miles on, unless you find one that already has done a significant mileage. Driving postion in the older car is far better imo btw
The one thing i found about BMWs is their reliability is not the greatest. i owned a 2011 3 series and by the 5 year, it was always going to the shop. i traded it as soon as i could after that. i hope the BMW has worked on their reliability issues in current cars. Great video, the car looks really nice. i had a manual as well. i really miss that!
Its so sad when you get unlucky with a car from a brand you like. My 2011 BMW 120 runs like a champ and has zero issues so far. Maybe give them another chance and buy a well serviced used car? Thats what I did and it does me very well so far as my daily.
In my comparison test the M4 won. Engine, better sound, better driving position (lower) and adjustable dampers make for a better overall package. That said, personally I would still get the M2 because I prefer smaller cars ;)
@@TheGetawayer always enjoyed your articles. Havemt missed an issue for the past 15 years or so. Any chance to move to sport auto? I think Stefan Helmreich did the same a couple of years back. Also a quality Journalist. Best of luck to you on your joumeyand more of these videos
You are my favorite car reviewer!! How does the manual M2C compare to the manual 981 cayman GTS? I watched your 981 cayman GTS review a few years back. I am looking for a driver focused, best steering feel, and fun daily driver! Which would you personally choose? Your opinion really matters to me knowing how great of a reviewer you are.
Thanks Chris! I really appreciate your feedback on the videos! Well, I'd say both can be used as a daily pretty well, if you don't mind the sporty, firm ride. I think as a driver's car the M2's chassis gives you more options than the Porsche, which is glued to the road and just super focused. There is that true Porsche sportscars feel however which the M2 can't match, because it's based on a more conventionel platform. The M2's transmisson is more fun to me, eventhough the Porsche shift quality is superior. Just the longer ratios make it less involving than the M2s shorter setup. I guess the GTS will keep its value better too. But I'd have the M2. Its just so much fun, I love it on the road :) - Guido
TheGetawayer Thank you for the advice!! Which one has a better steering feel? More natural feel and confidence on the turns. I currently drive a 2004 BMW 330iZHP sedan and the balance of the car is phenomenal. I’m a purist when it comes to cars, so does the 981 GTS or M2C come close a purist feel (if that makes sense)?

When I did the comparison between the M2 and M4 the bigger car won. Its noticable faster, sounded abit better (even with OPF), has better suspension for daily use (adjustable dampers, which the M2 Competition doesn't have) and a slighlty better seating position. Back at the magazine we also had an M3 Competition as our long-termer for 100.000 km and it was one of the most charming and loved cars ever. Worked without any problems...So...If you daily it: Go for the M3/M4. As a fun car the M2 is a brilliant choice with a few compromises - Guido
I think for Texas it Would be excellent as well. Beware, though. It is loud, even in comfort, and only gets louder from there. The suspension is firm, but not punishing. I Love mine and would Love to take it for a Little cruise through Galveston, jamaica Beach, freeport...

Apologies in advance for asking, my ears aren't sharp. Just curious at 1:20 , did you mention Andreas Preuninger as in the same dude that heads the development of GT Porsches?
No :) I talked about Mr. Perlinger, who builds BMWs M press cars. But I have met Mr Preuninger too. Theres even a german vid where I interviewed him about the 991.2 GT3 :)
The CS is a track day special for me, so if you won't use it that way, I don't see the point really. The 1M is already a classic and very exciting. I would get one of those or a regular M2 or M2 Competition. Hope that helps you. Either car will be alot of fun!
@@TheGetawayer Thank you, I typed M2 CS by mistake. Actually meant M2 competition. If you were to get 1M or M2 competition which one would you get ? What I can't understand is why it weights more or less the same that the E92 M3 which had 2 more seats and a V8... I know its primarily a road car but the "competion" moniker makes no sense. 1600kg is just too heavy for regular track use... Glad BMW made though and can't wait to see what the CS will be like.
Honestly: The weight never really bothered me, not even on track. But you can do crazy things with these M2s. Check out the video Auto Bild Sportscars just posted.
How was the pedal clutch fell??? Is it the pedal fell heavy like a race car or just like an ordinary manual car? Anyway on your opinion better buy manual or automatic for the m2 competition???
The pedal feels like a regular, normal BMW clutch: Not heavy, but not too light either. I really like it. Im a big manual guy, but if this was my daily I would get the automatic.
I hope you addressed the CROOKED SEATS! Absolutely unacceptable. I walked away from my order when I noticed it. Such a blatant cost cutting act from the “ultimate driving machine” - when your legs are pointing OUTWARDS, it’s a joke, folks.
TheGetawayer The front seats are angled outwards slightly. It’s one of those things that most people wouldn’t notice, but once you do, you can’t un-see it. Apparently, BMW’s original design did not meet side impact crash test standards. Rather than redesigning, they just angled the seats so that the driver’s hips are a little further away from the side of the car. When you sit in it, look at your legs and notice how they are not parallel with the steering column.
This car was on winter tyres and I believe the Styling 640 M wheels, not the regular multi-spoke Competition wheels that come with the car. You can also get forged wheels by M Performance for 850 Euro which look brilliant on the M2.
You mean the old 3.4 GTS? Great car, amazing sound, but those long gears are a let down on backroads for me. I love all M2s. Haven't driven the CS yet, but everybody I trust who has driven it, says its the best. I'd go with a Competition like this or even the old regular M2 and enjoy it :)
Thanks for your input. Yes the 3.4 I'm a driver that's very much about the experience which largely includes the soul and character of a car particularly the engine. I have a comp e92 m3 DCT and that engine is really something but I do lots of back road mountain driving and I'm noticing the size and weight of the e92 so looking for something to offer a more go kart feeling connected to the road while still having great engine character/tones and give that special feeling.
@@hazey888r If you chase a go kart-like driving feel the Cayman is your car. You sit way higher in the M2 than in the E92, which wont give you that feeling you are looking for. Steering and the engine in the back would support that sensation too. What about going for a GT4 (982 or 981)?
@@TheGetawayer Sorry mate I did not see your reply till now. Yes have considered the 981 GT4 but won't see track and would be more of a daily driver. So thought the front clearance would be better in GTS, and heard the exhaust note is much fruitier and exotic iver the 3.8 GT4 Plus the GTS I'm looking at would have carbon brakes, PTV, x73, burmeister sound and carbon buckets over the std items in a base spec GT4. I think GT4 would feel more special because GT car but the GTS like I said has all the driving enthusiast bonus items and without a large rear wing haha Check out this 2016 Porsche Cayman GTS 981 Manual MY16. www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2016-porsche-cayman-gts-981-manual-my16/SSE-AD-4430435

This car was on winter tyres and I believe the Styling 640 M wheels, not the regular multi-spoke Competition wheels that come with the car. You can also get forged wheels by M Performance for 850 Euro which look brilliant on the M2.
Question for you. M2 CS or 981 Cayman GTS for ultimate driving experience on back roads. Both in Manual.
I think GT4 would feel more special because GT car but the GTS like I said has all the driving enthusiast bonus items and without a large rear wing haha
Check out this 2016 Porsche Cayman GTS 981 Manual MY16.

I would buy a 220i or 230i manual but I can't understand a manual gearbox in an M2.
That makes no sense to me
What colour is that M2? Is that Sunset Orange? Looks RED!
Read the description please
Woher kommst Du denn? :)
TheGetawayer ich komme aus Wolfsburg
Nice 👍
981 Boxster S or M2 Comp 🤔 that’s my dilemma.... thoughts 💭⁉️
I guess the 981 will keep its value better too. But I'd have the M2. Its just so much fun, I love it on the road :) - Guido
@@TheGetawayer Thanks Guido, really respect your opinion and knowledge!
I prefer the 2018 440i m performance. Sound , look and size
I reviewed the 440 for Auto Bild Sportscars. Lovely car!
if only the car was rhd. then you mabey enjoy more having the gear shift in your left hand.
Thanks
You are very welcome!
they only thing you're competiting in with your M2 Competition is who will spin their crank hub faster :(
Name of the wheels please? 🙏🏻
They are OEM BMW. I believe the name is Styling 640 M or 641 M
@@TheGetawayer thanks Guido!
Crooked driver’s seats make it a Deal Breaker.
From your voice I was 100% sure you are Automann.tv and started a new channel instead ...
Haha, we have met and I can tell you we sound very different in person😅
WHO gave this a Thumbs Down?! . . . Give it a Thumbs Down when you've made a better review/video! #GetReal
Thanks for your nice words, Freddie!
Exactly! Superb review
Porsche Cayman or M2?
If its a 718 with four cylinders, hands down the M2. A 981 would be very enjoyable too. I'm hoping to drive the 718 4.0 soon, that could be a game changer
The ASD is just horriblf in this car...
You can program it out. It's more a problem on EU cars that have a quieter exhaust compared to export M2C.
A golf gti sounds better than the m2 competition 😅
