Recently saw a 1M coupé in real life, what a bomb of a car it is! The concept of a shorter wheel-based BMW is just amazing, so much power on the rear wheels but less weight!
Its a nice car but it hasnt got less weight than a 3 series. No M 1 or 2 does. Thats because a few inches of bodywork weighs very little compared to the driveline and chassis component which it share with the 3 series. In some specs, the E92 was a miniscule amount lighter than a 1m, because of its carbon roof. The winner for 1M is its more lively behaviour, because of the shortened wheelbasr compared to a 3 series. More "fun" but a lot less stable. It also looks really cool, for me the 1M and M2 have always looked very nice. Not taken by the latest one so far though.
Original M2 has the N55b! It has beefed up internals over the standard N55 N55b: -forged crankshaft, -forged connecting rods -newer piston rings. -rehsaped oil pan and a new oil drain pump, to allow for better circulation during more extreme circumstances than it was normally put under. -Additional oil coolers
The launches on the 1M were superb. The problem with the 1M is that the small stock intercooler completely heat soaks half way through the second gear let alone a second race.
Considering I watch these videos nearly every day Mat somehow seems to keep this series entertaining throughout due to the sheer passion he has for cars
Ive had a 1M since new. I can say with some authority on the matter, Sam did a great job getting it off the line like that. If you floor the right foot in 1st TC kicks in immediately and you go nowhere, take TC off and it just lights-up (see @8.45) the tyres and again you go nowhere. He's finding a good launch biting point with the left foot and a superb control of the fast pedal with the right foot. It also spins in 2nd so more right-foot control is needed. The gearbox is fairly short-throw and shifts can be slick if you get it right, but you'll still lose two or three tenth's a shift to a DCT. Good work Sam.

i have the N55 F87 and its a miles better car, if u go FBO and maybe pure turbo it will be wayyy more reliable than any S55 car and most importantly it will sound and drive better.

The 1M was such an absolute legend, one of the greatest M cars ever. The M2 really is such a fantastic car, handsome, blazing fast, and with classic BMW handling. Even the new one is good, even if it is heavy and not as good looking. The I6/ manual/ rear drive recipe continues to be one of the best in the world.
The 1 series is one of those timeless cars that look soo good. My 135i gets mistaken for a 1M but I have the N55 with a DCT. E50 really wakes up the single turbo 💯💪🏿
@@Areku06 Planning to try the Sheunk N55+ turbo and see if the claims are true. It’s a newer turbo but the N55 FB group says that it offers stock spool with near Pure Stage 2 performance for less money
@@midnightz317 sounds similar to pure500, I got around 450whp/480 torque with custom tune which is about 500bhp. Turbo can do more but I’m limited by the fuel system, I’m only using b58 gen 1 hpfp.
That 1M is an absolute legend, I am sure it'll increase even more in value in the future. I'd take that F87 CS any day of the week, much prefer it over the new design.
Had an OG F87 M2 for 3 years and loved every second of it, when it was time to sell and I test drove the comp I couldn't believe how boring it was. No noise or personality, OG had the "it" factor. Now in a W204 C63 6.2 and I still think about my old M2, there was something very special about it.
I had an OG from new too, 3.5 years and I changed to a Comp, yes no noise but I sorted that with Active Autowerke equal length midpipes and couldnt be happier.
@@harrysmith3495 I’d say that very much depends on your situation and preferences. I went from a 2018 OG owned from new that I put 36k in the time I owned it to a 2020 Comp with running in miles. My reason for changing was the fact my OG was peppered in stone chips (and not just the front end but the roof and sides too) and I also wanted more power. The extra money the Comp cost was worth it to get a ‘new car’ (given the mileage and condition my Comp was in on purchase) as well as the instant 500bhp+ that I got out of it simply by adding a remap. My OG was full bolt on mods and was only at 410bhp. Had my OG not had ruined paintwork I would have likely gone larger turbo and fuel pump to get some more power. In my situation I’m glad I made the switch (I also PPFd the Comp immediately on collection!!)
@@nurburgringuk im coming from a 2019 M240i. A 2018 OG M2 is looking around £34k compared to the comp close to £40k. Im reading alot that the og M2 drives and sounds abit better and is more exiting to drive, but you miss out on the newer looks, M driving modes, better steering.

Definitely has some good things going for it. Lighter than the CS, more reliable engine and sounds amazing. Definitely a very capable car with suspension upgrade and some tuning.

The F87 M2 is easily one of the best looking BMW's ever made, perfect blend between modern and classic styling.
The front end is so lost on it. Angles going every direction. And the rear end looks like it was rear ended. Their side profile is awful tbh

Had an OG F87 M2 for 3 years and loved every second of it, when it was time to sell and I test drove the comp I couldn't believe how boring it was. No noise or personality, OG had the "it" factor. Now in a W204 C63 6.2 and I still think about my old M2, there was something very special about it.
I had an OG from new too, 3.5 years and I changed to a Comp, yes no noise but I sorted that with Active Autowerke equal length midpipes and couldnt be happier.

I’d say that very much depends on your situation and preferences.
I went from a 2018 OG owned from new that I put 36k in the time I owned it to a 2020 Comp with running in miles. My reason for changing was the fact my OG was peppered in stone chips (and not just the front end but the roof and sides too) and I also wanted more power.
The extra money the Comp cost was worth it to get a ‘new car’ (given the mileage and condition my Comp was in on purchase) as well as the instant 500bhp+ that I got out of it simply by adding a remap. My OG was full bolt on mods and was only at 410bhp.
Had my OG not had ruined paintwork I would have likely gone larger turbo and fuel pump to get some more power.
In my situation I’m glad I made the switch (I also PPFd the Comp immediately on collection!!)
@@nurburgringuk im coming from a 2019 M240i. A 2018 OG M2 is looking around £34k compared to the comp close to £40k. Im reading alot that the og M2 drives and sounds abit better and is more exiting to drive, but you miss out on the newer looks, M driving modes, better steering.
No noise? Literally in the video you can see it sounds better than the pre lci M2 😂
as an owner of the M2 S55 and the OG N55, nothing will ever top the first OG first gen M2…

I want that 'Powered by BMW M' decal on the engine in the 1M. I have the same engine in my Z4 (N54T) but it doesn't have the cool sticker :D Btw, love how the old 1M keeps up with the 2's!

Definitely has some good things going for it. Lighter than the CS, more reliable engine and sounds amazing.
Definitely a very capable car with suspension upgrade and some tuning.
That new M2 is fast but I’d still take any of the other options just based on looks alone.
Have to say, the fugliness of the M2 is warming on me…
