After all, some people prefer to go even earlier. mb about the mistake though

Modern Minecraft feels very corporate, every new addition is very safe and lacks creativity such as with Turtles or Armadillos, hell, Mojang even choice not to include fireflies because they thought the mechanic of frogs eating them would be harmful!
@@Guhgubba No, it's partly Microsofts fault, but Mojang is bar none the single most incompetent studio currently owned by Microsoft, they've fallen off. Minecraft got big on consoles because of 4J Studios, not Mojang. Hell Mojang RARELY did any major work on the game BEFORE the buyout. Notch did a LOT of the work himself. Mojang were really there mostly for Quality and Assurance testing.

Ok, but regardless of old/new preference... can we all agree it's kinda shitty that C418 basically got cut out mid-album and his third album never even made it into the game?
And it’s all because Microsoft wants all the rights to the music. Not just the rights to use it in the game and for promotional materials, but every possible usage.
@@AndreWharn Look up Shunji, Axolotl, or Dragonfish by C418, those are the only confirmed songs from Volume Delta, and you could tell that they were meant to be released for the Update Aquatic before shit hit the fan
I also noticed that the new musics starts immediately while playing. With old musics, their volume increase as they come from nowhere. Here, music triggers too suddenly. Maybe it's why.
@@realcartoongirl C418's music usually eases itself in while Lena Raine's just hits you in the face. Not sure if it says more about her character than it does about the game, giving off this vibe of "HAHA, IM HERE AND YOU CAN'T GET RID OF ME, DEAL WITH IT, CHUD!"
I loved the way somebody else described it: Modern minecraft would've never added creepers. A core addition to the identity of a game, made by a glitch no less, whose sole purpose is to be as annoying and lethal as possible, who can spawn in the overworld and is common to find on the surface at night AND what can destroy blocks, would never be added today. Im starting to also think that had the nether and the end not been added prior to the take over, we would've never gotten a new dimension, ever. It'd be a foreign concept.
Tbf, if creepers were added today everyone would despise the, as much as they despise phantoms, which is one on the problems that curbs Mojang creativity
@@vincesaenz2760 Not really, creepers are a source of engaging gameplay, phantoms just kind of exist and then stop existing after you type /gamerule OR swipe at them three times.
I'm sure someone is going to bring up the warden, but in my experience the warden is far too easy to avoid completely. All you have to do is sneak around and place wool... There's no actual thrill to the deep dark and I feel it completely fails at being an antagonistic force like the creeper is in the game. Phantoms also miss the mark for me because they are also very easy to avoid, again with wool
@@el_gatoNegro You have a point, but they're not entirely useless. Their drop is pretty good for making glow signs, but they could've implemented it into something else, not a mob. Lmao, I looked up what that was from thinking it was like a classical novel. Look, 0 judgment here, if you're going to quote My Little Pony, at least go all the way and put the "- Twilight Sparkle".
The problem with minecraft isn't that it's changing, it's that it isn't. Microsoft is terrified of changing the core game progression. With every update that just gives you kinda neat, off-the-way side mission-y stuff, or content you have to go looking for and might miss if you just try to beat the game, this becomes ever more clear. Lena's music just exists in this context. There's nothing she or C418 could do to change this.

"lack of direction" is precisely how I feel about modern Minecraft. I don't take issue with them adding more stuff. I take issue with them adding more stuff that's almost completely self contained. They add things without connecting them to the rest of the game in any meaningful way. I feel that the mentally of "Do whatever, whenever" that modern Minecraft seems to harbor just doesn't make for an engaging gameplay experience
Greatest example of this is the glowing ink sack...why add that when we already have glowstone?? the ink sack only serves one purpose that could've been given to glowstone and it's to create glowing text signs and frames.
I’m pretty sure that Minecraft has always been about that lack of direction. It’s a sandbox game, you get to do whatever. And with the updates adding more whatever to do, you get more out of it. If you think it’s not an engaging gameplay experience, it’s a problem in you, not in Minecraft
@@LunaHowBoutPoona Minecraft was always about you choosing your direction because mining and building things was most of the gameplay, thats not the same thing as the developers adding random meta game mechanics with no end vision
I don't like the reliance on making you run a million blocks away from your base in order to find simple materials like upgrade templates. The nether is hell to navigate in survival and now I can't even just strip mine for netherite, I have to go find a fucking shitty structure filled with strong things that want to kill me! If you're gonna make me travel so far in survival give me a fucking teleporter!
Have you tried Better Than Adventure? It's a mod based on beta 1.7.3, and it has way better game design than modern versions while also having lots more content than beta. There's even other mods for it on it's discord.
I actually feel like old Minecraft music *was* made for the player. It was made for whatever you happen to be doing, mining, crafting, or exploring. What makes the old music feel out of place now is that the new music isn’t meant for the player. It’s meant for the world. All the new music is biome-specific and conveys a mood for that biome, like one of the new songs, “deeper”, only playing in the deep dark. (sorry for yapping)
EXACTLY! I facepalmed when I found out they added biome-specific music. This illustrates the difference very well. It is worth mentioning that C418 did have to compose for the world a bit, though. Specifically the End and Nether, but he took things in a very interesting direction. His nether music feels like it illustrates what a wasteland the nether is, as well as the desolate lives the mobs there lead. (Which obviously doesn't really apply to it anymore) The End especially is interesting, and I think it really illustrates the difference between C418's Music and the new Music. I can't think of another composer who would turn the final area music into a weird meta narrative audio play of sorts that seemingly ties into the message of the end poem. I wouldn't be surprised if his end music is removed outright when an end update does come around.
@@themc3140 I doubt they’ll remove it, but will likely overload the End with new tracks instead. I love the new songs, but the only composer that has even came close to C418’s musical ideas is Kumi Tanokia. Her music fits in the overworld no matter what you’re doing, I hope she does music for the End update if it happens.
It's hilarious how people think that biome-specific songs are bad. And they are the same people that think Terraria is better than Minecraft too! Terraria's OST is *SOLELY* made out of biome and boss-specific tracks!
@@NickAndriadze Terraria is a different game, though. Biome-specific tracks make sense there. Terraria is much more traditional, its progression is a lot more complex and important to the game than Minecraft's progression, and bosses/combat are tied to that progression. Because of that, even though the game has similar systems to Minecraft at a first glance, the game has a pretty good idea what you'll be doing at any given time and scores the areas accordingly. Minecraft, on the other hand, is much more tailored to what the player wants to do, its progression is only a part of the bigger picture, and it has no idea what you'll be doing at any given time. As such, C418's music feels like it scores your memories rather than the game itself.
Old music does not fit minecraft because it was made for a lonely sandbox Modern music does not fit because it was made for a minecraft themed rpg,not minecraft. at least it feesl like it
Yea, but all the music that doesnt really fit, is all contained within music discs. The new ambience music fits well, but as the video said, the old music stands out in modern versions because it was basically made for a different atmosphere/game. Yea, new disc music doesnt have that weird feel to it, but that's for the same reason as the new ambience. perhaps someone can make a mod or modpack that adds alot into classic minecraft, like the modern versions, but keeps things in the realm of the atmosphere instead of changing it?
I feel like Lena rains overworld tracks just dont sound like minecraft music. Unlike c418s tracks they tend to not blend in to the background wile playing instead the sometimes seem so loud and in your face it sometimes becomes distracting. Another critique i have is that it also sounds to emotional compared to the original tracks. They often sound like they want you to feel sad or happy. C418s overworld music gave of more ambiguous feelings allowing players to interpret them there own thoughts and feelings. Im not saying all her tracks are bad but i feel like she isn't suited in trying to emulate C418 overworld music. She should try to stick to making non overworld tracks. Her music is at her best when in a unfamiliar environment like the nether and ancient citys were there are basically no references from C418 to base off of. I also have no issues with the music disks because they are optional to listen to. In the future mojang should stop trying to cram in new music in to the overworld because it dilutes the concentration of the original tracks playing. They should instead only add new music in completely new areas like a updated end or new dimension because those areas allow for lena rain to have full creativ freedom.
When Haggstrom starts playing, I can either sit down and listen to it, or keep doing whatever I was doing while listening to it. When Left to Bloom starts playing, I have to stop playing because it kept hitting me right in the feels, making me miss a childhood that never actually happened, a friend that I didn't really have, or an item that I lost in the End. Those tracks made by Lena Raine are really good; just that they are so intrusive for gameplay, like you've said.
I think each composer makes good music, but they have different styles. These different styles can clash together. Lena’s music is too complex and feels like it is meant for chaotic RPG. To each their own I suppose, but I am glad I can access older versions of the game. Most companies don’t officially allow you to access older versions.
so are you saying that Lena's soundtrack doesnt sound minecrafty ? well then i need you to go touch grass(play minecraft) more so you could feel it, Lena and Aaron never make me disappointed, their music is still sound minecraft
@@vusherman1125 listen I played the game ever since the 360 era and still play a good amount today so I have had more then enough time to listen to her tracks. Her tracks sound and feel different. This dosint mean they are bad but that there is a noticeable difference in tone and vibe between her and C418s music. Her tracks feel way more emotional like for example left to bloom which seemingly wants you to feel in awe/buty. Most of C418s tracks rarely sounded as emotional as her tracks leaving it more up to player to give the tracks a interpretation of thiere own.
I feel like while a lot of old minecraft's music is a lot more simplistic to it's benefit, the modern ost is a lot more musically interesting. It's like your mom's homecooked meals vs a really good quality gourmet meal. sure the gourmet one makes sense as to why it tastes good, something about your mom's cooking is calming and brings you back to a time where things were simple.
I have to disagree. On an objective level, yes, the new music is a lot more dynamic, but I think if you take a step back, the old music is a lot more interesting in the grand scheme of things. When I hear modern minecraft music, I hear Zelda, Sonic Frontiers, and every other AAA Open world game, there are moments here and there that come close to what C418 did, especially on the Nether Update OST, and I think giving full creative control for the music discs was brilliant, but the new music just sounds more generic to me.
@@themc3140 I dunno...modern minecraft sounds very different from Zelda and Sonic Frontiers and has it's own nice feel to it. I wouldn't say they sound generic, they sound pretty good really, really both are good really.
Honestly the entire reason why i like minecraft is because of the struggle. It really made it feel like a survival game, where your working to beat the odds, instead of some rpg game where your goal is quests and bosses. I'm not old enough to of grown up with the beta, but 1.7-1.12 keeps that feeling.
I don't see how not being old enough to have grown up with beta is a reason to not try it out. I started with legacy console edition, and the first java edition version I played was 1.13 I think. Now I've started playing lightly modded beta 1.7.3, and it's my favorite version, unlike other versions, in it I'm really motivated to build. In the launcher you just have to go to settings and toggle "Show historical versions of Minecraft: Java Edition in the Launcher". Afterwards, you can play any version of the game.
If you like the survival struggle, try Vintage Story! It brought back the magic of playing Minecraft for the first time and has some truly mindblowingly in depth survival mechanics. The struggle against the world never ends, even in end game territory you are nowhere near invincible.
There's another thing about the old minecraft music that made it so magical. It is peaceful and calm, but it has a sense of melancholy to it. As you mentioned, in old minecraft there are no structures, no villagers, multiplayer wasn't released yet, you are completely alone with the exception of some animals and some monsters. It perfectly encapsulates what it was like to play minecraft by yourself, it is an escape to a world that is peaceful and beautiful, but at the same time empty and alone, especially with the incredible scale of a minecraft world. Another thing I noticed is the sense of mystery in the tracks. Most notably, the second half of "Mice on Venus". One thing you mentioned is how alien the old minecraft versions feel, with the sharp color palettes and surreal terrain generation. C418's tracks have a sense of mystery because you don't know what is out there, again with the world being huge, but there's the beauty of exploring this strange world and finding out. In modern minecraft, there's recipe books, structures everywhere, information is much more prevalent nowadays with the online world, and that sense of mystery is almost completely gone. The new minecraft tracks are, like you mentioned, catered to this more comfortable and lively world, and I think that's why the old minecraft tracks don't seem to fit in a modern minecraft world.
I mean is it gone? The online information was there back then as well, structures just add more questions then anwers really too. I think both can fit, both are peaceful and comforting but kinda mysterious in a way.
I completely agree that the old songs song like there could be anything out there is just something about the old ones that the new ones just don’t have
You know, I actually really respect that you mentioned that you enjoy new versions and the new music too. People seem to like picking sides and then hating on the new versions/music, but, as someone who loves playing both release 1.21 and Beta 1.7.3, I love both versions and think they're both awesome. After all, they're both Minecraft. I think Mojang does a great job with modern Minecraft, and I don't think that you have to hate on new Minecraft to be able to also enjoy old Minecraft. Both are great.

ive never got why people call the newer versions complicated, yea theres a lot there if you look from above but when you actually play you dont have to interact with any of it

If you dislike how modern Minecraft survival feels then try playing survival in Bedrock Edition instead of Java edition. Bedrock's survival feels a lot closer to how Java used to feel. Hostile mobs spawn more frequently, they hit much harder, and are generally a lot more dangerous to their Java counterparts (faster movement, higher accuracy, longer hit range etc). Your player character is also a lot less overpowered at the start. You take way more damage, the regeneration speed is still the same as old Java, and tool/armor progression actually matters to your survival.
Okay, so I'm currently working on a minor in music (along with a major in English), and C418 has fascinated me for ages. Sweden in particular has a fascinating design to it. That first upward build followed by going down repeats throughout the entire song, and due to the way it's structured, you can play *any black keys on the keyboard* and so long as it's in time, it'll sound good. The music on a fundamental level is designed to be added on, to provide the framework and allow the player to make it sound however they wish. I highly, HIGHLY recommend listening to C418's album One from start to finish. His use of leitmotifs (repeating themes) is absolutely phenomenal. Stellar video, by the way.
I HATE FARMING I HATE FARMING YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME DOING AN AUTOMATIC FARM has always been my mindset, and you can very much play the game that way if you enjoy the exploration grind
I just miss the crazy terrain generation from the early builds. Encountering floating islands large enough to build towns on added an aspect of fantasy and wonder to the game. That said, the newest terrain post Caves and Cliffs isnt bad and adds its own fantastical sights. The world im currently building in has a lush cave cut right through the side of a mountain in a tiaga biome, so you can watch the sunset over the ocean through a mountain, and then at night the cave glows with its own ambient light.
other missing point which i am sure everyone will agree is game's core mechanics are fairly easy you can get your first diamond by the day one and overlook all the newly added stuff like copper. they try to make end game harder by adding mobs like Warden or structures like Trial Chambers but it's not it. it's the core mechanics and surviving is what easy
I know some people will say it’s because we are growing up and that we only liked it because we were kids but that isn’t the case. I first played Minecraft on Java at update 1.5 with the redstone update. I went back to that version and I’ve started to enjoy playing again. A buddy of mine started playing at 1.7 with the introduction of new world generation and he’s been playing on a world for a year and a half and has over 400 hours on that world alone. It isn’t because we are getting older(kinda), it’s because Minecraft is getting older and also turning into a different lesser version of Minecraft. It’s going form a sandbox game into an exploration game. Instead of being pushed to make a big kingdom in one spot and having the optional choice of exploring, now we are being forced to explore even if we don’t want to. Need material? Welp gotta go below y 0, need to get mending (in the villager rebalance update coming out) then you need to go make a swamp village (yup you have to MAKE a swamp village not just finding one). Before exploring was optional but now it’s mandatory. Also back in 1.5 there was a lot less blocks to build with, which did hold the games potential back. But now there’s too many blocks to build with, which is holding the game back even more. Now there’s a dozen types of stones and woods, now there several different dirt/sand blocks. It’s overwhelming for new players. I’ve been teaching my younger cousin how to play minecraft and he would get the hang of it but then would get confused with the building blocks and how to build and even with how to get better tools. Overall Minecraft is being forced into a box of “exploration game” instead of being a sand box game.
Jetstarfish made a video on Minecraft’s exploration problem. And I think he makes a good point. Instead of having an item or block that’s in a specific place that the player has to look for. Have an item or block that is more common in that specific place. For example. With the villager trade rebalance. Instead of having swamp villagers be the only villager to trade for mending. Have swamp villagers have a higher chance of trading for mending. Other villagers can still give you mending. But it won’t be as common. As for all the building blocks. I’m not sure. I think the game should recommend what building blocks you could use. And you could challenge yourself by only using those blocks.
@@lucasmatthiessen1570 part of me wishes that they would give us a planner system with builds where we can change the resources and it’ll make an outline of that. I’m horrible at building so having a guide that’s built in would be nice. Or even a color palette guide
@@imperadorchin3099 I like it to because if I’m ever in the mood for exploration then I can. But at the same time we are being forced to explore against our will. We have no voice or choice. So Mojang is punishing players for not wanting to explore.
You do know you can outrun every single mob in old minecraft? Try it. Just go into the minecraft launcher, select something like beta 1.0 (which is what i used) and just wait for night. Sprint makes no difference, it just makes the game less annoying to play. Same with the brightness. You can still see in old minecraft at night, it just makes you strain your eyes. Did you even play old minecraft or did you just see a lot of people making videos about "old minecraft is better than new minecraft because uhhh!!!" and saw they got a lot of views?
"...Mojang's ever-increasing lack of direction" I'm glad people are starting to realize this is the underlying problem with every post-1.16 update. It's not the delays, it's not the communication with the community, and it's certainly not laziness. The reason these updates are falling flat is because Mojang has no idea what they want Minecraft to be. That's why Hytale will be its biggest competition (whenever it comes out) -- because Hytale is Minecraft with a clear vision for what it's supposed to be.
Yeah I tend to play with music turned off in the newer versions. Not only do I personally not enjoy the newly added music, but the original soundtrack feels so out of place in the modern games. The old music really just doesn’t fit in at all with the new music.
My issue is that the newer music is physically louder than older tracks on bedrock. Like I either have to keep volume low and only get good sounding new tracks, or keep it higher and get deafened. I usually just keep it off atp.
tbh I didn't even realize they kept changing the music because i always kept it off and played songs from my playlist, whenever i play Minecraft alone i always get a feeling of dread but listening to my favorite songs helps get rid of that feeling

you know, ive tried, ive studied c418's music it is just so gottamn special, c418's music does feel very alien, and it was never strictly calming, sometimes it was silly, or less atmospheric. good analysis
Honestly, what I don't like about the new music is 1. it feels too loud/in your face compared to c418's background tracks 2. they play way too often, which wouldn't be that much of an issue if they were as "background" as c418's are 3. they playing in specific biomes, what made the old music so great is that they played randomly, you could be building a house or enslaving a village both while sweden is playing, now it feels like if you're going to a mangrove swamp only it's music will play (it worked in the nether due to it being only 4 biomes and the new music playing just as commonly as the old one, also the old one was less of background music and the new ones just felt right) 4. they seem to play way more than c418's music, like they're trying to emphasize that the new music exists by killing the appearance of the classic one, I think it has been a 6 months since I've hear living mice in-game and who knows how long songs like mice on venus, danny, or subwoofer lullaby also creator is probably my favorite song from Lena Raine, but doesn't fit at all in minecraft
I still enjoy modern minecraft, but I completely get the enjoyment for old minecraft. While minecraft may feel like it's "lost its charm", to me it more feels like a game that is growing over time. The new structures aren't "missing the point", the new structures are life growing into a previously abandoned world. The versions of minecraft are themselves an ingame timeline, not just a different version of the same game
The only thing I don’t like about modern minecraft is that structures are too common, I can load up a random world and have 4 different structures right next to eachother which takes away the feeling of being alone in an empty unknown world.
I mean ngl there's no way they could possibly add anything new without "ruining" the lonesome and alien atmosphere that made old minecraft so special. It felt so vast and mysterious because it was just a very simple game. anything new they add is gonna mess with that a little bit. And even though the new updates might seem silly like "omg wtf is this armadillos? >:(" keep in mind older minecraft had stuff like the mushroom cow island and the ocean temple. I dont think its so much as what theyre adding as much as it is how much different things they are adding to make the world feel less empty. As long as these structures and biomes they add are relatively rare and you still get that sense of adventure you get when looking for them (like hunting for the end portal with your friends), i think new minecraft is still good, and if you dont like it or want to experience nostalgia you can always go back and just play old versions which is cool
One of my strongest gripes with the new minecraft is the large ass caves. I have been playing this game for like, 8 years and i couldn't play the original game, because my family didn't want to buy it for me, so i played it mostly pirated, and those pirated versions only had the like very early versions, 1.5 was the one i played the most. More recently i've been able to play the 1.21 version more, and it all looks new for me, the caves are way bigger, i liked the old caves more because they were more linear, i knew where i was going and where i wanted to go later, now that they are massive, i frequently lose my sense of direction and exploration. Its just a personal problem tho, the new versions are awesome and very fun nonetheles :)
minecraft music immersed me back in the day now with all the new shit, its comforting idk how to fight a Warren or a wither but when that music kicks in it like the game is going "dont trip"
also not gonna lie, both types of music are really sad if you're a long time player, the music can pretty much make you cry due to nostalgia and memories.
I personally had this moment a while back where I went into an ancient city in creative mode, and just sat there listening to other side and relic. To be honest it made me not look at the past but look at the future. Like these songs where Minecraft’s finally in my life, and when listening to them it made me both think of what has happened, and think about what’s yet to come. The songs themselves just feel like the beginning of a new adventure, and it almost made me cry remembering how my childhood, or C418, has adapted into these songs that represent what’s yet to come.
as a musicologist i love the new music because i feel like it compliments my gameplay a bit more, but the old music did a good job of contradicting the vibe so you remember the music and the moments more, and also does add to the loneliness feeling by making the music a different mood to what you were feeling
Modern MC is easy, but not on pocket edition. I got jumped by 5 skeletons, 8 zombies, 4 creepers, a drowned with a trident and a baby zombie while I didn't have anything better than stone tools, and the lack of AOE hitting abilities was brutal. I still have the screenshot
As someone elsewhere put it, I imagine a big part of why people might not jive as much with the newer music is due to the fact that they didn’t grow up with it When you hear the old music it’s not just the music talking but the good, simpler times you remember attached to them It’s like audible nostalgia and I like that they didn’t remove it from the game Cause sometimes, when you’re late into a map and you stop when the first few notes of a song you memorized in childhood started playing, it’s nice to just stop and remember how far you’ve come - and how much farther you can go
At least for me, C418's more recent works for Minecraft for example in the update aquatic still invoke *that* feeling, so it's definitely not *just* nostalgia. There is something else.
@@TheNeverPoet Hrm - I suppose it could also be that there isnt a good answer for everyone. Some people just genuinely prefer C418's style more, etc etc
@@TheNeverPoet Yeah for real, even non minecraft stuff like One really blew my mind. He has a certain style that brings an adventurous, melancholy, and yes very nostalgic feeling that nobody can truly replicate. Plus his ability to use leitmotifs is truly unmatched.
Nah. I was not a child when I first got minecraft, and I never used to play with the music off. Turned down some, yes, but never just off. Now, I never have the music on. It's too intrusive. It's too loud. It's too complex. It's too big. It's too there. When it plays, I don't feel like this lone person stranded in a giant world that I'm slowly and carefully carving a niche into, I feel like a man sitting at his desk playing a video game. I am reminded by the sudden and jarring interruption by this loud, complex musical piece that I am playing a video game. Like, old minecraft used the music as a garnish. It was mostly one dude tapping keys on a piano. Musically, he was as alone as you were physically. And if you genuinely didn't want to be piano plink plonked at in the moment, you could pause, turn the music down, then turn it back up, and the track would have ceased, the piano fairy quietly backing away so you could have silence. In new minecraft, you can't do this anymore. Once a track starts, that track will not stop playing, volume be damned. The orchestra on your back might be muted, but they care not for your desire to be left alone in the moment. They will keep at their instruments until the ogg file's runtime is up.
One thing I've noticed about the new music vs the old is that the new music is more musically complex. Minecraft Volume Alpha is very simplistic, usually sticking to diatonic scales. It also has pretty simple rhythms with subtle harmonies that don't stand out too much. The newer music on the other hand sometimes throws curveballs by putting certain notes where you wouldn't expect them and going out of the scale. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to compare the newer music to tracks on Volume Beta, as C418 does some musical experimentation here too. For example, in Dreiton, some of the notes are slightly off rhythm, and can be kind of distracting if it's your first time hearing the track in game. However, these tracks that are more experimental appear strictly in creative mode, other dimensions, or music discs, as not to interfere with the simplicity and subtlety of tracks from Alpha which play in the overworld in survival. That said, I still enjoy the new music and found myself grooving to some of the new tracks, though I don't think they belong in the context they were placed. A good example of music that I think was placed in a proper context was one of the tracks that played in a dripstone cave, though I'm not gonna bother finding the name of it. I think this is because, with dripstone being a new addition to the game, it felt alien and new, much like the music that accompanied it. I'm no expert in music but these are just some of my observations and how I feel about them
To be completely honest I love the new music, it reflects the new identity of Minecraft and is still ultimately very similar to old Minecraft. The modern composers are doing great. New features are nice. The pale garden is a lot more detailed (block, particle, & atmosphere wise) something admittedly most other biomes lack. The new mobs are nice, you can fight me on this, but they make great additions (excluding the sniffer), phantoms are so easy to counter and are lowkey hunt to kill when you become strong enough. Armadillos are nice to have since they introduce dog armor, fish add alot of ambience, the warden is simply goated with its mechanics. The creaking is a lovely subversion of the warden and can be farmed. The list kinda goes on with great new mobs. just because none of them add anything to upgrade your pickaxe doesn’t mean they aren’t worthwhile, the game is primarily focused on building and creativity, not the tools you use to make them, both versions of Minecraft have their strengths and are suited for different players, just enjoy what you want to enjoy, it’s a block game. Appreciate what you have of this game, not what you don’t (or download a few mods if you’re a Java player, something around 25 - 35% of the player base is)
I exclusively avoid a lot of the automated stuff that you can do in Minecraft because it quite literally takes away from the world. Takes me an hour to set up a completely automatic crop farm that can give me unlimited XP and riches with absolutely no effort. There’s nothing else to strive for with things like this in the game, it’s WAY too easy
yeah but it takes a while and its not fun setting either of these up. i dont even know how to make a door with redstone lol. i make farms but my animals always escape and u need to grind or loot shit. im also not going explore and waste my time finding more or wait until they respawn.
I've been playing since like... 2013? Whenever it was, it was before it became popular. I love this game to bits, and it WAS my childhood. The old music gives a sense of finding peace in a foreign land, a hostile world, still relaxed. The new music plays it safe. It really does make you feel like you're just another guy in the world.
This is one of the best critiques of minecraft I have ever heard. You really hit the nail on the head on what made Minecraft feel like Minecraft. It really is like the music is just emanating from somewhere
dude i remember playing minecraft for xbox 360 with my friends and every bed was so expensive, sheep would never ever spawn so every night you'd be couped up in your house waiting for day to come. i should really boot up my xbox and visit those old worlds.
I don't think its that Minecraft has exactly changed as a game. Anybody can go back to any moment in Minecraft's history- whether that be alpha, beta, or more recent like 1.8. We never lost the game it once was- we just got different versions. Most of us who played Minecraft back then have gotten older and with our age we have separated from the game. To put it simply- people have nostalgia for old Minecraft because we played it when we were young, not because it was necessarily better or is gone.
I think the new music is way too upbeat like a spotify playlist instead of the relaxing and thoughtful soft piano or synthesizer, nowadays its just a random mix of upbeat tunes that are always too intense or do not fit the atmosphere at all.
When Infinite Amethyst kicks in while I’m exploring a lush cave I feel so cosy but also Lena has some pretty unsettling tracks for the Nether such as the sounds for the Crimson Forest
I'm literally 100% sure when people say "old minecraft" they dont mean that far back man... not even sure where this idea came from but the consensus is minecraft was peak about the time xbox and playstation had their own distinct versions. Mainly because these versions STILL run better on consoles to this day. Idk where the first versions of minecraft ever came into the discussion but I've literally NEVER heard anyone say that's when minecraft peaked.
Beta 1.7 isn't one of the first versions of Minecraft, and idk where you've been looking, but that's the version pretty much everyone is talking about when they say "old Minecraft", not 1.2 or whenever you're thinking.
I would honestly prefer that they add a toggle to disable any of the new tracks. They never seem to fit what's going on and honestly seem so much louder and busy than the original tracks that I always end up muting the music all together. I've tried playing with them, but I can't seem to hear myself think whenever they come on. They are also SUPER BORING and have like zero charm. The original tracks are perfect in every situation. We don't need new ones.
This is really well made and accurately sums up the significance of minecrafts music, and only in 4 minutes too, the old soundtrack felt almost mysterious, playing whenever it felt like (ik its like sun down and sunrise that plays songs but it really does feel random (legacy console plays music constantly)) and almost always feeling like it fits what you're doing despite the song, again, being picked at random, the new music fits the updates sure, but with so many biome-specific songs, it takes away from the random charm of the older music, playing whenever and still somehow fitting in
1.21's music feels like a mix between the old Minecraft of C418 and the new of Lena Raine Aaron Cherof and Kumi Tanioka. Nearly the whole soundtrack sound like it's either been produced by the world itself or people who have long left it. The common use of hangdrums and chimes reminds me of C418's work while it's abandoned structures remind me of the mineshafts and spawners of old. The trial chambers might spring to life when you come across them, but the only life you are met with are spiders, slimes, Breezes, silverfish and the undead.
You can focus on the basic mining and crafting fundamentals in the newer versions just as much as the older versions, with more mechanics available to you as well. The new mechanics in modern versions (with the exception of, like, sprinting and the new combat system) are all able to be ignore if you don't like em. The older versions just force you into your preferred playstyle, but dont actually do anything better to accommodate it.
A lot of issues people have with the newer versions can be avoided by simply not interacting with the mechanics you dislike. Saying the newer versions are worse in any way is simply an opinion (and, at least objectively speaking, incorrect to an extent). Your preference towards older versions for the simplicity or whatnot is fine; but acting like the newer versions are actively worse in any way is simply wrong.
I gotta say I personally LOVE the new music, I think both the new discs and overworld music does a good job of making you feel like u are in control of ur world, and the more upbeat tone of the music makes an already cozy game even more cozy
I really prefer them adding new songs. I dont find them distracting, or any way taking away from the old songs. Quite the opposite, playing hours in creative mode and hearing the same songs over and over again gets really annoying, i dont care how nostalgic it may be. At least now when hearing the old songs, there is a bit of impact to it. Not only that, but I think the new songs fit minecraft as it is now well enough. I don't want to be feeling nostalgic constantly, that's just exhausting.
I think the real problem with modern Minecraft is that it's just horribly imbalanced. Some things are just incredibly easy to cheese, even unintentionally, but then really random things are really difficult for no reason, like me and my friends played on 1.20 for a while, and at the end we had multiple double chests full of diamonds and gold, especially gold, but we had NO iron at all (the one resource we actually needed), and the new terrain made building anything and exploration outside of oceans extremely difficult, and mining just sucks now. Then we decided to try b1.7.3, and this is so much better. Granted, it is significantly harder, but we find the difficulty to be much more 'consistent' across the board, and I think that's what really matters is consistency in the gameplay experience.

(Which obviously doesn't really apply to it anymore)
The End especially is interesting, and I think it really illustrates the difference between C418's Music and the new Music.
Yeah, thats what felt wrong for me since the minecraft music was originally made to be played randomly in any time of the game

I love Lena Raines music especially in celeste but I do agree with you, Lena Raines music definitely doesn't have that same feel of c418.

FINALLY someone on this app who doesnt speak in 0.5
I know some people will say it’s because we are growing up and that we only liked it because we were kids but that isn’t the case.

Did you even play old minecraft or did you just see a lot of people making videos about "old minecraft is better than new minecraft because uhhh!!!" and saw they got a lot of views?
"...Mojang's ever-increasing lack of direction"
I'm glad people are starting to realize this is the underlying problem with every post-1.16 update.
Dont forget in 1.16 they renamed the zombie pigmen
hytale is a joke though
Yeah I tend to play with music turned off in the newer versions. Not only do I personally not enjoy the newly added music, but the original soundtrack feels so out of place in the modern games. The old music really just doesn’t fit in at all with the new music.
My issue is that the newer music is physically louder than older tracks on bedrock. Like I either have to keep volume low and only get good sounding new tracks, or keep it higher and get deafened. I usually just keep it off atp.

Old Minecraft is like a walk through the forest.
New Minecraft is like looking for your car in a WalMart parking lot.
you know, ive tried, ive studied c418's music
it is just so gottamn special, c418's music does feel very alien, and it was never strictly calming, sometimes it was silly, or less atmospheric. good analysis
Honestly, what I don't like about the new music is
1. it feels too loud/in your face compared to c418's background tracks
2. they play way too often, which wouldn't be that much of an issue if they were as "background" as c418's are
3. they playing in specific biomes, what made the old music so great is that they played randomly, you could be building a house or enslaving a village both while sweden is playing, now it feels like if you're going to a mangrove swamp only it's music will play (it worked in the nether due to it being only 4 biomes and the new music playing just as commonly as the old one, also the old one was less of background music and the new ones just felt right)
4. they seem to play way more than c418's music, like they're trying to emphasize that the new music exists by killing the appearance of the classic one, I think it has been a 6 months since I've hear living mice in-game and who knows how long songs like mice on venus, danny, or subwoofer lullaby
also creator is probably my favorite song from Lena Raine, but doesn't fit at all in minecraft
You are onto absolutely nothing
While old Minecraft was good, I doubt the game would have anywhere near the popularity it has now without the newer updates
i feel like a lingering fragment of a world that no longer exists
You can get some beautiful screenshots tho you gotta admit
@@KiiBon yeah, i cant deny that its very beautiful 😁
minecraft music immersed me back in the day
now with all the new shit, its comforting
idk how to fight a Warren or a wither but when that music kicks in it like the game is going "dont trip"
also not gonna lie, both types of music are really sad if you're a long time player, the music can pretty much make you cry due to nostalgia and memories.
@brycel6661 if I wanted to listen to a cheap rpg I'd pulled up yt innthe background
Old minecraft felt hostile, more sharp and jagged. The old minecraft worlds felt like it was not yours.
a lot of the new music sounds like it belongs in the legend of Zelda
“it’s a testimony to the humanities ability to find love even in the most unfamiliar places” wow
I think it's quite simple. We all played and listened to the old game and tracks when we were younger and now we're just nostalgic for it.
Only issue I have with the New Music is the fact that it's distracting. Often or not I pause to think. So I lose focus on the task at hand.
Minecraft is just as fun as it was when we were kids
As someone elsewhere put it, I imagine a big part of why people might not jive as much with the newer music is due to the fact that they didn’t grow up with it
When you hear the old music it’s not just the music talking but the good, simpler times you remember attached to them
It’s like audible nostalgia and I like that they didn’t remove it from the game
Cause sometimes, when you’re late into a map and you stop when the first few notes of a song you memorized in childhood started playing, it’s nice to just stop and remember how far you’ve come - and how much farther you can go
Old music had a simple motive, and because of this it was better remembered.
At least for me, C418's more recent works for Minecraft for example in the update aquatic still invoke *that* feeling, so it's definitely not *just* nostalgia. There is something else.
@@TheNeverPoet Hrm - I suppose it could also be that there isnt a good answer for everyone.

You did in 4 minutes what most Minecraft historians can't
nice video! its not as much of a ramble about things wrong with minecraft as it is a unique observation about the change in atmosphere
best video essay ive seen all year hands down, you didnt waste any time and didnt fill the video with too many jokes or visual gags, excellent work.
Old Minecraft, the world felt like it was truly my own playground. New minecraft feels like I'm rummaging through someone's junk drawer

dude i remember playing minecraft for xbox 360 with my friends and every bed was so expensive, sheep would never ever spawn so every night you'd be couped up in your house waiting for day to come. i should really boot up my xbox and visit those old worlds.
I don't think Minecraft "lost its sense of direction" I think it just evolved to be something else
I always considered the appeal of old Minecraft to be what it doesn't have

I think after 1.16 Minecraft turned into a Mod of itself
I don't hate new minecraft,
I think the new additions lately have just felt underwhelming,
I do dislike the new music though,
It feels less calming
