I always felt the newer mobs (mostly the ones from the mob votes) felt too alien compared to the older mobs, not only their textures but also their animations sometimes are too smooth. It feels like something from those mob mods
@@Cappuccino_Rabbit yeah, compare the allay to the old vex. the warden has detailed animation but i personally feel it fits the game as mobs of that stature, (ender dragon, wither, elder guardian) tend to have that and it’s not jarring like when camels and striders get it.
In the old versions where the fog was so dense due to render distance limits I used to think I saw other players running around. Which is what made Herobrien so interesting to my little kid mind. But it meant I built my houses like fortresses, because at any point I thought I could be attacked by a player. Because to me I had seen them in the fog.
I was always creeped out by the fog, but I remember leading pigs around with beetroots in my old worlds and waiting to see my base in the distance. There's definitely a different vibe to those different eras.

Videos like these make me cry. How I miss sitting in my parents' basement, 8 years old, playing for hours with my older brother. Friends from elementary school. Childhood friends. I remember using redstone as a trail to help get my friends out of a cave they were lost in, them calling for my help. I remember pointlessly deciding to dig away a small sandy mountain with just my hands. Or when my brother and I decided to build a wooden hotel that reached world height, with a diving board on the top to jump into our pool. I remember my group of friends all deciding to eat pufferfish at the same time together and stumble about. But now my worlds have corrupted and are gone. My cats, dogs, parrots, and horses never saw me again. I and my friends have jobs, husbands and wives, careers, and kids. We were last online years ago. I miss them, and all the good times. But, I try to always remember: You didn't know it was the good times when you were living in them. Means you probably are still right now and just don't realize it. Make more good ole days. There will always be more.
Genuinely what you said absolutely wrecked me. I can relate on so many levels. Funny enough.. I still play Minecraft because it’s just a cozy comfort game for me. Sure I may not be able to ever revisit the old worlds I’ve had on the ps3.. but I can always make new memories with new adventures to pick from. I don’t think I’ll ever let go of Minecraft, because when or if I have kids.. I’ll show them how to play, and I can make those memories I had and share them with them.
I stopped playing around 2017-2018 and started again last month. The best way to describe "new minecraft" is its like going back to your hometown after being away for many years. It's the same but so much has changed it doesn't feel the same. Most of the basic blocks are the same but many have changed textures and functions (ores), so many buildings and they are so easy to find. Villages used to be hard to find, but now in 6 separate survival world within minutes found Villages, temples, and more

i played minecraft alone A LOT as a kid. sometimes with my sister, sure, but i was largely a very lonely and isolated kid. i was very creative, but i hated myself because that did me no good when i tried to make friends. though i never beat the game (i was scared of the nether) the gardening and the tool making and the house building was just so special for me. i remember getting so excited over having horses added on the mobile version. i barely know my way around a new minecraft world now. but it’ll always be a summer morning on my couch next to my window for me, and i think that’s beautiful. this sparked genuine emotion in me, thank you
Same, I try many times. I make a new world, go through all the progression, even to getting netherite armor… and then I stagnate. I keep telling myself I want to be properly prepared for the fight, and somehow I always manage to have an extra “need” on my checklist. I’ve beaten it in multiplayer, though. Seems I’m more likely to finish what I start when I have a gym buddy (or something like it)
I used to tryhard the game during every single playthrough I had, getting the best gear and beating all the bosses, but now I decided to take a slower approach and focus on building and exploring instead. Because of that on my newer worlds I always end up with iron tools for, like, 95% of the game. Recently I decided to revisit my older worlds (from 2020-2021) and my god I was so creative with the houses back then, it was kinda crappy though, but it always gave me that feeling of genuine comfort while looking at them. When I was really young I used to mostly play on servers, either the public or the private ones with some guys I found on Skype/Discord. Nowadays I am too socially awkward to actually try and find someone to play with, so I spend most of my time in single player (rarely on the public minigame servers). It's kind of surreal how much this game holds a special place in my and many others' childhood (and it still is dear to my heart).
Flashback appeared. I used to watch a lot of Minecraft creepypasta content back in the day, so much that I was scared of my own tunnels while mining, so I had to place a door behind myself every time I go too far so that I won't get jumped from the back by some creepy monster. Good times.
I got really fucking scared once. I was trying out the new cave update and the sheer immensity of it all gave me the fucking creeps. I remember running for my life but nothing was chasing me
It's simple for me: My friends don't play anymore. Even if they do, we play for maybe two sessions before they don't want to go back. Don't get me wrong, I used to play solo too, but there was always the promise of your friends joining or wanting to show them something you made. My creativity isn't enough to keep me going by myself, and anything I make will never be impressive enough to myself for it to feel worth it. If I ever try, the OG music just makes me too...sad. I started playing in pre-alpha. It seems like a lifetime ago. It just gives me a melancholic nostalgia for a time that's long gone, and I can't handle it.
All of yall should just try improving your building skills, then this game truly never gets boring. Finding inspiration in real life builds or concept art from other games and then putting them into Minecraft is so sick and is definitely the most rewarding way to play, and the playstyle that mojang will always cater to (every update is gonna have new building blocks)
@@rooodis456 Man, I'm gonna be honest with you. That sounds like a lot more work than just playing a fun game. It reminds me of people saying I "should grind [insert tech] in Rocket League if I want to progress." I gave up on the "grindset" with games a long time ago. I get that I'd probably enjoy Minecraft more if I did drastically improve, but it's putting an indefinite step in between now and then that who knows how long it would last. I'm incredibly uncreative, and it would take a LOT more practice than I'm willing to give to get there, especially when my gaming backlog is full of stuff I need to get around to anyways. I doubt I'll ever reach a point where I never play it again, but I'm ok with accepting I'll probably never play this game a ton again.

It’s always been a sandbox, and any update that mojang puts out isn’t gonna change that. I think you’ve realized that tho and that’s why you’ve stopped playing which is valid. But in case people do want to enjoy this game again, I believe that building things you’re proud of is definitely the way to go. It took me a long time to get good at building, but now that I am good at it, it becomes a hobby like painting or Legos rather than a video game

Dude, honest to god, please continue this channel. You have an amazing talent for script writing at only 16-17, and you can speak clearly enough to portray the emotion you’re looking to convey. The only thing I suggest is watching the video on different volumes/devices(speakers/headphones), since some of the music overpowers your voice and sometimes fades in a bit too strong too soon. Apart from that, amazing work, I’ll be keeping a close eye on your channel for future videos!

To be able to look back being older now, and realize that this game was forging ideas for our young minds to think more about our own world and appreciate it through the appreciation of the game it's self. With the ending having some of the most impactful words to carry with you in life... far before those words were understood enough to be valued to the fullest extent.
minecraft is often 1 of the things that makes me reflect back on when i was younger in general, what things i wished i coulda changed, wished i coulda done now knowing what i do, knowing where the world and i have headed 10 years from that point and the things i wish to relive as well as knowing the things that shaped me into who i am in the future. i feel sadness but also joy. i smile but i also tear up a bit because there was a time, a year even, where people just got along and all was fine with the world. i also think back to primary school and secondary school. the people i met along the way, friends, people who cared for and about me even when i didnt, the people who i wish were still with me to this day. those who have sadly lost their life and those who moved on with theirs. i never knew i had alot of good points in life and met such nice people until i finally grew up and reflected on the past. i do miss those days. back then, wouldntve dreamed of it but now, i wish i had another chance to relive those moments. its crazy how much u realised u messed up and the mistakes u made and the things you missed until its too late.
As someone who suffers from motion sickness, I can say that the texture updates was one of the best things that happened in Minecraft for me. I could now play for hours longer at a time and not feel sick after, ESPECIALLY the Nether. The world texture argument has always confused me when it talks about the grainy versus smoother look. You can have that again, it’s a readily available resource pack in all versions. I’m not going to discount the vanilla textures themselves don’t feel aligned with each other at times in modern Minecraft, but the people who want the classic have the ability to go back.
The texture pack isn’t updated with completely new additions to the game and makes it look like a hodgepodge of different textures. This issue is notable especially in the nether where you can modern nether gold ore from 1.16 clashing right next to old netherrack.
@@sopadss I know a lot of people that nauseous playing games in first person view or allow the camera to move "too much" in third person. It limits what and how they play. Most just end up either not playing much or say say they don't at all to avoid talking about it. It never bothered me, until I got an injury and lots of blood loss. Then even reading or watching tv caused nausea. Those recovered fairly quick but it took almost too months before I could play a game like minecraft for more than a few minutes. 90% of the time I'm fine now, but if I'm even a little sick, it comes right back.
I remember cliffs and caves release was it for me. I was so excited for it. Played it once, realized I hated how endless yet empty they felt and never played again. There was something so special about finding a small opening in what you thought was a dead end cave, that just kept going and going. It doesn’t feel the same when I’ve got 200 blocks above my head. Idk how to explain it
I like the caves and cliffs I think its a good edition though one thing I don't like is deepslate since it's just so annoying to mine without a diamond pickaxe, if deepslate was as easy to mine as stone it would have been better and ever since caves and cliffs I notice that your inventory gets full so much faster compared to mining in old caves.

@@soulbox225 yep I wish there were less one use items. And with that I am also attacking the old ones. Like why exactly do we need red mushrooms? What are the dyes for? Just let me use cocoa bean on wool to dye it brown. Why the extra step? If we can craft sticks from different wood types we should be able to craft blue wool from lapis or cornflowers. It's not that hard. I feel like that would help a lot with inventory management. Also maybe expand similiar looking blocks instead of making it a new block type. I really can't say why we have diorite AND calcite. Why do we have tuff, stone and andesite? Also charcoal and coal, what for? It's things like these that take up so much space.
caves and clifss was the reason i got back on the game, since the release 1.0 the worlds lost the random stuff, it was always the same you found a desert you found then all almost no change in height or anything, they fixed all taht with caves and clifss bringing the randomness again, so the same biome can feel so different from each other now, and the caves before was always the same everywhere, boring small tunnels no matter the biome you are always the same, now they are so random so varied, u even have some water pools in some, its just better.
Mods are incredibly important to me. It makes Minecraft truly endless and never boring. Its brought some of the happiest memories in my life. My ex was/is a terrible person but the best memories playing together in a beautiful modded dreamwold like a second life. Aside from that, old Minecraft has something special new Minecraft doesn't: When everything was so limited, people really came together and used their imagination/creativity more to make things work and amazing. Its so rare to see that nowadays. Also, new Minecraft is SO much harder to stay alive. The nether is 1000% more difficult to traverse and many ways to die. As much as I love ancient cities, I hate the world being twice as deep, so many mobs spawning. So even a run for iron is a fight for your life.
True. Was playing minecraft latest version and it gets boring way to quickly, maybe its because of the way i play. I enjoy exploring, finding new stuff, walking around without knowing what i'll find next. So structures mods for me are a must have. New itens also to keep the gaming experience fresh. There is a mod called ''Artifacts'' that, everytime i remember its existance, it bugs my why minecraft doesnt add stuff like it. The mod adds some artifacts that you can find in chests in every structure in the game. These artifacts can be worn by the player and gives unique and special abilities like increased speed, double jump etc. I feel like mojang is worrying way to much in not making the game feel to crowded when it should be worrying in keeping the game fresh and new.
The MEGA SIZED CAVES-AVES-AVES-aves-ves-s are just daunting. If you have a mod that lights it up they're breathtaking but it vanilla, there's 2 problems: how the hell to get down there without taking several in-game days and/or just dying AND even if you light up the floor, there's still so many areas that you may not find or be able to readily reach for them to spawn in. Technically it's still in your control but how many resources do I want to sacrifice just to making it safe to walk through/around this one area?
new minecraft mods have also become stale the older ones had a lot more creativity to it and lost support i even loved installing the old way and deleting meta.inf
I disagree with "the less blocks the better" not everyone likes to build medieval. Dyed glass, terracotta and concrete open the door to so many more building styles and creative possibilities while still being limiting. They don't even have stairs or slabs. And even blocks with a specific purpose like the composter get used to build walls, flower pots, litter boxes, wheelbarrows, etc. Limiting yourself can be fun but you can't create a painting with a pencil.
+1 I would argue Minecraft lacks a wider block variety even (no concrete/terracotta slabs/stairs for instance, the amount of wall types, among others). Not only that, but how accessible some of these are in large quantities in order to be similarly viable to easier-to-obtain blocks is also a factor if playing survival.
Still if you want to build medieval still having to texture your walls and stuff or it will look ugly as hell. Mostly using 3 or 4 textures. Like for example, from in a good state to extremly worn: Stone Bricks, Cracked Stone Bricks, Tuff, Gray Concrete Powder Or the same way: Bricks, Polished Granite, Granite
I disagree because yes, the old blocks do have a more medieval direction, but that's what gives the game it's consistency. Sure modern builders can make some great stuff, but for the average player, most builds in modern minecraft look awful. Older versions level the playing field by making the environment match the simplistic building. That and the challenge of making a modern house or something using old blocks creates for more interesting builds than 90% of modern minecraft builds in my opinion.
I think what ruins minecraft is actually speed. At the time you were just discovering new stuff and it felt fun seeing something for the first time and i remember looking for a plains biome for my new house and then i had my mine my farm etc. but now players go in the end with almost no stuff just 4 beds and kill the dragon in 2min but at the time the dragon felt difficult and almost like it had emotions and also walking was actually enjoyable now 99% of players sprint jump because we're impatient and at the time more things were scary like going in water at the time was dangerous because skeletons could throw arrows but now you can cross a river in like 3 seconds. Another thing is we matured and stuff are less scary when i started seeing monsters around my house i was just scared and the nether felt dangerous. Another fun thing was just doing what you felt like in creative like i think most people like me started building a city and in the process got distracted into fun experiments that we enjoyed. Now we compare ourselfs alot to others and minecraft feels competitive and when you make your little house and go on youtube you see a solo guy building a mega city in hardcore and puts you to shame for it.
I think time is another big factor aswell. We simply just don't have the time to play Minecraft. The creator of this video literally spent 10 hours stripmining. Nobody wants to do that. Infact I hate stripmining and only found my diamonds through caverns or had diamond spawn really high.
Just came back after taking a break from Minecraft since a few updates ago when everyone got a custom cape for free. It seems every difficulty level is now harder. Easy mode feels more like I'm playing normal difficulty, especially with more monsters in every level than there used to be. All your points also seems valid.
I feel like its mostly the hunger and health regen... i feel like easy should be a place to LEARN the hunger mechanics, not be punished for not knowing them. There should be a constant slow health regen that gets faster when you are full. No HP effects from hunger only stopping sprinting and slowing regen. Even stopping sprinting...like who stops to eat a steak evey minute when they are running? At least give me like 5mins of sprinting I'm fairly out of shape and even I can do that without having to stop for a cheeseburger. Its ridiculous and doesnt add anything fun to the game. If youre on bedrock and have to crouch to block + no sword blocking it just becomes a huge PITA to do anything in survival anymore. Oh wait guys its not annoying enough you better sleep by the end of 3 days or prepare to be annoyed even further. Literally it seems like the design philosophy changed from "give players freedom/motivate good decisions" to "punish players severely for not playing the game specifically how I play it, and offer no explanation for new mechanics that get people killed. And keeping your inventory is "cheating" Yeah im ok off that pretentious BS I miss the simple days and my java server pays homage to this.

No and I think the kids should be able to learn the game and have SOME mobs without being completely ganked.

I actually really love the strip-mining phase. because it's soooo mundane, but not too mindless. like you still need to think if you found a cave, lava, or mob spawning out of nowhere. but the mundane grinding looking for the diamond phase is so peaceful. in today's world where everyone needs outside input like game, social media, TV, Radio, Music, etc. we can't handle even just a single day without it. it can make people sooooo boooreedd, it's torturing. but it's too much, that you forget about the whole conflict and emotion that bottle up inside you. and the strip-mining is the best way to make you think about yourself and detach yourself from this busy world without getting bored
as a rule oriented, need instructions, non openended person, strip mining/the gear grind is like my favourite part. why? it's incredibly straightforward.
the good old days for me in minecraft was when minecraft blew up so much that we started getting minecraft parodies out of pure respect, passion, love and as a thankyou for such a great game that a game company has given us. its the only game that touched peoples hearts so much that they went out their way to dedicate songs about the game, to the community and to the game company. the only time where the world had finally felt truely peaceful and brang people together was around that time. there will never be something even remotely close to that level.
@@sophbear4259 i agree. what made minecraft so good back then was that progression was simple yet grindey. there was an actual survival aspect to the game which has been since abandoned and practically far removed from the game in which modern day minecraft can never compare to.
I've actually started to dig a perimeter around my witch farm, by hand, no machines. I was lucky to have found sponges when I made a guardian farm. All the stuff that I find goes into a storage. I'll be finished in three years lol

Everytime Mojang would roll an update out i would lose the motivation to play on the same worlds, this hit its peak in the Caves and Cliffs update and within the last 1-2 years I've barely even touched Minecraft. Yet its the same game i poured 2000 hours of my childhood into...

This is probably the biggest killer for me. I feel like I’m in a perpetual state of waiting for the most recently announced feature to drop so I can “finally” start a new playthrough. But as soon as an update actually drops they announce _another_ feature that’s dependent on terrain/structure generation, which makes me want to wait even longer. I’m also terrified of playing snapshots or version 1.X updates because I know world-ending bugs can happen that just completely destroy my efforts, which makes me want to wait on version 1.X.X.

I feel like the whole purpose of minecraft was "What do *I* want it to be?" And it's still like that way now, but now with the addition of the things like structures, real life animals, and a block for every situation, it might mess with the player's imagination

@@garlicmynutsThe less stuff you have, the more use you get out of each and every thing. If you have, like, a bucket of 100 legos, you have to get really creative to make them all count. If you have a million Legos in every color and shape you could imagine, it's almost overwhelming how much choice you have. Even though you technically have more creative opportunities, you're so overwhelmed by options that it's kind of scary for you to even start. This also applies to basically everything. I'm sure some people will always do well with infinite block choices, but a lot of people will actually do mote with less.
@@garlicmynutsIt's also worth noting that in the context of survival Minecraft, if you want to use whatever blocks you want you basically have to search for some ultra rare biome or late game item to get it in bulk. This means that most of your time doesn't go into building and instead getting stuff you want to build with, which can be tedious as hell. In creative mode this isn't a problem tho obviously, which is why people commonly just build their stuff in a seperate world before trying to get the materials to remake it in survival.
This video made me remember something. While the over-world does invoke feelings of melancholy, the Nether makes me feel... empty. I think that's because of one of the most memorable things to happen to me regarding the Nether. Many years ago, when I was probably 6-8 years old, I had made a friend in Minecraft (one of my very few friends) and we played quite frequently. We made a world on Xbox 360 and made it to the Nether. We were exploring a fortress, and through some event, he died and I was entirely alone, with all of the gear we had. I don't entirely remember our conversation, but it was a stressful moment because there was a lot of pressure on me to get back to our base, but I didn't remember the way back at all, I think it went something like this towards the end though (rough estimation): Me: "I don't know where to go" Him: "It's alright, try to get back to base safely" Me: "I'm scared" Him: "...me too." Those words always sort of stuck with me. Why? Looking back, it was just Minecraft and there was no real threat of losing anything. Nothing bad was going to happen. Everything was going to be ok. Whipe I don't disagree, especially when it comes to things like the trial chambers and stuff. But honestly...I like the current development cycle because at least we know what we are getting from Minecraft now, and you CAN look these things up. Sure it sucks on 1.21 to do it...but remember when the nether was first added? Remember how long it took people to actually figure out how to make one? Exactly, it's supposed to be like that! Part of the fun is figuring it out! I think so anyway. And sure, there is way to much in Minecraft now, but to be honest, after the end/nether updates, you can ignore basically all of the other ones. And their added content lol
What a relatable feeling towards what this game has become. I'm 26 now and have been playing Minecraft on-and-off again, since I was 13-14. I remember the first time I ever played, I spawned on an island with no trees or animals, but I was told this game was "great fun", so I swam and swam, for almost 20 min straight (Remember that you couldnt "sprint-swim"? And that you sank down so quickly, so you had to spam your spacebar just to stay above water? Well ngl, it kinda sucked at first, but I was determined to find something, anything other than ocean. And I did! I had watched some friends play once or twice before and knew that I had to "get wood" to start, so there I went, looking for trees and half-assing my way through the world. I remember being so proud of myself for taking the effort to find land, to explore, build a place for myself out of nothing. To tell your friends about the long swim, to show them my creations. And before I knew it, I was hooked. I never thought of making a new world, to get a better spawn, I didn't know yet, that every world was different. So I kept on playing in that same world for about a year or so, and I accomplished so much! But then things started changing. At first I got excited with every update, no matter how small, I wanted to try out the new things that were slowly getting added, I loved it! Because of Minecraft, I wanted to work as a gamedesigner, when I grew up! I started making new worlds every time something huge was added, to try to make that new feature my "new thing" that that world revolved around. But I also got older, I had to focus on other things in my life. Occasionally I came back, when a big update happend. But after a while, I'd start to notice that I never really got the same feeling from playing, as when I was young(er).. My dreams of becomming a gamedesigner stayed just that, dreams, but that's okay! I do still yearn for that feeling of freedom, and of creating out of nothing. But Minecraft simply got too overwhelming, for me, too many things to do to choose from. The things I ended up doing, I had done at least 100 times before and the game just became a little stale.. Since about a month ago, I (for whatever reason) decided to start a world again, after nearly 2 years of not having played the game. It's doing well, I'm learning alot about all the new stuff that's been added~ But most importantly, I'm having fun! By myself. Now I use Minecraft as a creative outlet, so when I'm stressed IRL, I just go hop on for an hour or two and see what happens. No setting goals, no expectations, just seeing what the world of Minecraft has to offer to me this time. Thank you for making this video and touching some of us Minecraft-vets' hearts! i do feel like im just running on the nostalgia train at this stage. all the old consoles and gaming devices and the old games from those consoles, ive never truely let go of them as if it were a core memmory. trouble is, i dont no where to go from here, how to move on and i dont want to either but ik at some point i have to. im 21 myself, i matured very quickly so i understood what it was like to be an adult and face adult decisions with my teen years which was also around the time when i was still playing bo2 and minecraft. to move on seems alien to me but ik it will end up happening. if that means i end up settling down and becoming a father or im living a normal day to day life without gaming and probally a large form of social media idk, but i can feel that gaming for me is coming to an end for me now. new games arnt too interesting for me, i dont feel the hype that often anymore, i cant find too much fun in a game nor play it for so long and the player base is also boring and the most toxic ive seen to date. i no longer have a drive to play any games anymore. i still play them and can still find fun in them but, theres nothing that excites me in games anymore. nothing to work towards thats worthwhile to me.
I call it the Minecraft blues. Where randomly seemingly out of nowhere you get the urge and creative juices flowing to want to play MC again for a few weeks of months.
@@aerisvulkan2538 imo, yes life drifts on rather quick when u start looking back in your 20s and 30s and even older, seeing how far uve made it, become and changed overtime but i dont think its a waste. ive had my best laughs, met some great people, still talk to an online mate who ive known for 13 years now who is happily married and has kids to look after as well and so on. id say its more been a learning experience and just part of growing up if anything. the media can hate gaming, gamers, millenials and all sorts but we still function as a society moreless the same way in life. as we grow older, we cant help but enjoy the past memmories and wish we went back. its one life and theres different segments within your life where things will just come and go. will i miss gaming? sure. i wouldnt say its had a negative impact on my life though. its more a life experience.
I can rely to this so much. I remember launching the game after school and trying to mine. However at that time I didn't know how to craft a pickaxe (I'm not native english speaker so google wan't an option, and also I was like 7). So I tried mining with just my hand and after that I had to wait till the next day and ask my schoolmate how to craft the pickaxe. So many sweet beautiful memories. ive been playing minecraft since 2012, and i think you were so right about how the game changed from 'how can i use these blocks' to 'what can i do with these blocks'. i think the game just suffers from *too much*, because its turned into a game of collection before creativity i feel. i was and still am after all these years an avid watcher of stampylongnose, and his whole lovely world deal was 'how can i use this in a way thats unexpected'. using crafting tables as decoration, trapdoors for entire minigames, coloured wool for every build. as mojang adds more and more specific things with single uses, all that creativity disappears or is extremely halted, because why go through all the effort of experimenting and figuring with mechanics to make a boat flow up through a water tunnel when you can just find kelp and a soulsand block? why spend the time exploring your world to find endermen for pearls when you can just trap a pig in a hole and give it gold? why search for materials and build up xp and repair your tools when you can trap villagers for infinite books and nametags and armour? why see your builds through the minecraft block lens when you can use the 'correct' blocks? i miss the creativity
Hey yeah, Stampylongnose! Loved watching his channel back in the day -- miss that. I was talking about him and his friends to my sister and was wondering if we could have that still and my sister commented that Minecraft itself, as well as the community, is different now and not all conducive to that style anymore it seems.
Perhaps other people have a similar experience but what I find is that I am not nostalgic for the game but rather the time spent with others while playing the game. You can always boot up a single player playthrough of a game, but you can't always go back and boot up a multiplayer playthrough with the same people.
I love the way you make videos, the long sections with just music and gameplay with no voiceover makes it feel a lot slower and a far cry from most of the fast paced brain rot content I see all the time.
As you mentioned your fear of completing the game, it reminded me of why I love playing minecraft beta so much. Back then, there was no specific objective to achieve, and you could never really finish the game. The enjoyment came from just building and being creative. I 100% agree that limitations often inspire creativity, and this is particularly evident in those older versions Modern minecraft offers a lot of content, but I often find myself lacking motivation to play it. With so many options and tasks to choose from, it can be overwhelming, making it difficult to focus on your builds. Rather than improving existing features, new ones are added, making the game feel bloated I really enjoy the simplicity of old minecraft and I'm glad so many other people do too
Seeing that Roofed Forest in 1.8.9 hit me with something strange. Because I still distinctly remember them being added and being excited to first see them. I also distinctly remember being excited to see tall grass and wolves for the first time. Feels like it wasn't... that long ago. I'm 26 now. I hopped on Minecraft and started a new Hardcore world, as I've always done. Wandered a Large Biomes world, collecting some treasure, then I sat down somewhere nice, built a house, and then never opened the world again. That's the story of many of my worlds.
You have managed to create a video about something I've not been able to put into words for years. All of the updates minecraft has received have theoretically made the game better. The new textures, biomes, mobs, items etc. But for me it hasn't. I liked the old wheat textures. I liked knowing diamonds were at y=11. I liked not being able to break the game with stupidly OP villager trades. I liked when the Nether was barren, just netherrack, lava, and the odd fortress. I liked the late night mining sessions with the boys before we had school the next morning. I liked the sense of achievement which seems to have now been lost. Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's hiraeth I don't know, but I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels this way.
Such a weird dilemma. There's people praising the game, like yourself, for being a technically superior version of the outdated days of Minecraft. Yet, the criticism for the game is wild considering the issues you have with the game was all down to the decision of how you played the game, which is boring through and through. Such specific irks like wheat textures? What? Maybe I'm fortunate to have evolved with the game, adding to the vanilla experience through the means of other texture packs, or shaders, and other various mods that aren't different, just enhanced. I was 11 of November 2011 when the game came out. Owned it in December that year. The game's been very fun again, why would I strip mine more than a decade later? Rid of those rose tinted glasses.
as someone who has been playing before even the endermen or the nether existed, i can say that i understand the feeling, i not gonna lie, i like the diversity in the new nether, but after exploring for thousands of blocks (literally, i crossed +2000 blocks in search of a fortress) in a world where 80% was just crimsom forests i became bored, i miss the old rocky/fleshy nether, i think it should still be accesible nowadays in between the types of biomes in the nether, and that it should be at least 25% of the whole thing, also, the graphic changes are easier in the eyes, yes, i like the graphic changes in the nether textures, but in the overworld blocks it feels, well...unnecesary, the item design improvement is fine, but lets be honest, the crispy glass nostalgic

This is exactly why I still play on legacy console edition, 1.14 on the ps4. It is the perfect mix of old and new Minecraft. It lets you change the textures back to the original ones right when you load up the world, and it still has the 1.8 combat system. The game also has some bedrock features like piston movable containers and dyes in the cauldron to dye leather armor. (Also has the superior Java edition redstone) The minecarts are also 2x as fast, so you can make cool roller coasters. And after all, it feels like the most polished version, even more than Java. It really does still have that old Minecraft feel to it.
I had a dream about this a couple of days ago. Unfortunately by the time I got an xbox 1, minecraft console edition moved over to bedrock. So now all of my xbox 360 worlds are in limbo.
@@fluffydoggo You can still get an Xbox one edition legacy disk and then put it in the console, legacy will play off the disk. Xbox one edition is 1.12. World transfer from Xbox 360 to Xbox one edition still works! Unfortunately the same can’t be said about ps4 edition because Microsoft decided to update legacy edition rather than release a new game for bedrock, with that update removing the ps3 -> ps4 world transfer.

this hit me right in the core, this is gonna be the millionth comment of its kind but i feel the need to get this out of my system, i remember the good old days when i did my homework as fast as i could just so i could go back to my ps3 and play minecraft, which i managed to get only when 1.12 hit the servers but i didnt even know about elytras. i remember my houses, mad without reason and yet... beautiful. the walls i used to put around them to feel safe, i used to lit every inch to not have mobs spawn and have my little safe spot and after all these years, nothing has ever felt safer. im still yearning for that safe spot, that safe space in which i can be me without any kind of external input and i can only find that peace when im fully alone. i want to stay in that peace forever but man life has been hitting so hard. im gonna go to university in like 2 months where did the time go ffs. i used to not even swear thought i was never going to. thank you for making me remember, the proper way.
this is legit one of the best videos I've seen on this platform from a technical perspective. the atmospheric shots, the pacing, the way you accentuate the music we all love with the editing... it's all very well put together and cohesive. and all that while avoiding the oversaturated style that's become so common in minecraft youtube. I'd honestly love to see more videos like this, maybe even a continuation of the same world. it's also relatable for me. i got into minecraft beta 1.5 in 2011 when i was 10, and have been playing older versions again since about 2019 or 2020, because at some point, the modern game had changed too much from the game i originally fell in love with. the ending made me pretty sad. the ender dragon really is the mother of all commitment issues. after defeating the dragon, you feel like it's the inevitable end of the game. but you were having fun before, so you can just continue playing on the world. the end fight doesn't change anything and nobody can tell you which version to play. you can try updating to the next version if/when you need something new. the main advice i can give you for commitment to a world is to set your own goals. build your world such that there's always something to do. after you defeat the dragon, there's not much reason to explore and upgrade your gear any more and after you've built a house, why build more? that's where you must find a reason. you could set a challenge or make up a story or just start building something you think will look cool. start a long term project as a sort of "background task", but don't focus on it too much and build some smaller projects alongside it.
This video was fantastic! The slow paced editing, calm tone and wonderful storytelling and personal experience with the game was very enjoyable to watch. It brought me back to the classic ties of Minecraft when the community felt different and the textures were solid. I honestly can't thank you enough.

Is one very good thing modern Minecraft fixed and it was cave exploration, you no longer need to strip mine if you fine a very good cavern, also very scary because stuff spawns all over caverns.
One of my favorite things to do in Minecraft is spelunking because it’s not as mindless as strip-mining and I love exploring the caves. The caves and cliffs update made exploring big caverns a lot more fun and dangerous for me. Slowly lighting up areas, getting dopamine bursts from mining out veins, and making the area safer with bridges and work stations. I felt like I was conquering the underground.
@@comet.x I actually prefer strip mining. Its a calm experience, with nuggets of excitement when you hit a cave, compared to the constant rollercoaster ride that is modern caving. Its why I've chosen to stay on 1.16, since its got the qol stuff like the revamped Nether, but also keeps the classic mining experience

On the topic of the texture change. At the time when the textured changed I knew nothing about Mojang/Microsoft or anything like that. I still remember my world I was playing in, on the day when the textures changed, I was in my sand mine and my thoughts for the first hour of play that day was: "The sand is wrong, why is it wrong? Why did it change?", I searched for anything that was the same in that world, others and even new ones, but they were all "wrong". Seeing this video and the old textures, feels "right" again. As if I awoke that day, many years ago, and the sky was purple and when I said it was wrong I was told resolutely that I was wrong. Everyday feeling out-of-place, until today seeing a blue sky and smiling because I was right, the sky had been blue. Blimey, this must be what nostalgia feels like. What a relief!

- Yeah I remember things like that really pissing me off, although for me it was the Gravel that was wrong, it stood out like a sore thumb clearly looked wrong. Although some things are sometimes cool when you see new things, I think any game where there are going to eventually be fundamentally different changes made, there should always be a "Classic" or "Original" setting where you can say "I pass on the new stuff, just want to play my old familiar game that I already like." In Steam there are sometimes options to "Roll back" to earlier versions ; I think this should be a default option for every game, some people like new stuff added, some people don't, and some people would like the option for either, some days they just want to chill with the old familiar, it would make a much more solid and loyal fanbase more than doubling the population of satisfied players.

i think im starting to slowly come to terms with this as well. i still love minecraft and enjoy it alot, but i cant sit there and play it anymore. its just like fortnite. im getting close now to uninstalling fortnite. not cause its not interesting and fun but, i just get bored and cant play it for long anymore. with the bugs and issues as well and the updates, im not that fussed about it these days. i think the hype train and nostalgia trip for games like this is wearing off slowly and i think its getting to the end of a gaming era for me now where my body is ready to move on and live a life of a grown adult but my mind still clings on to the past. i dont want to leave the gaming sphere and thats what i think hurts the most. being in it for 15 years, adapting my skill, playing for fun, enjoying the laughs with my mates on there, i cant see a world in which i fully move on away from it however i also feel like im not far from that deep down. its not a decision ive made but a natural process of moving on without really knowing i have. i think thats what hurts and scares me the most. leaving somethig i treasured so much, behind and only being able to look back.
Trying my best to put biases aside, the one thing that definitely made the older days of Minecraft significantly better were the online friends I used to have while playing between multiple servers.

commenting this before i’ve even finished the entire video, i’ve recently had a burst of playtime on my hardcore world that I made almost 2 years ago but only sunk 100 hours into and seeing this video just made me so happy to know that other people can find the power to kickstart the fun again. I’m nearly a grown ass man and just hearing strad reminded me of a base I had on an old realm, in the middle of the void, in the end the most lonely place possible but I always played strad to fill the emptiness and it had me on the verge of tears hearing it again. I’m ugly crying right now after the game credits, my grandma passed while on hospice yesterday and the nostalgia of childhood and the memories are something I’ve been trying to get ahold of in this world where the present and acting now is so important. this was a fantastic video, man. i started playing minecraft in 2013 too, and i was 8 at the time. ive had really similar feelings about minecraft and your video has inspired me to redownload the game and try it again. ive actually never killed the enderdragon? i wrote a personal essay about that in junior year of high school and that was.. two years ago already? its been a long time since i even actually played. i think the loneliness of minecraft is something i need to experience right now. to work out stuff, yknow? the way you write is incredible and i am totally here for whatever you make next.
i thought this was gonna be about why the game is LITERALLY hard to play now (mob spawn rates being much higher, therefore making it hard for someone like me to play alone) or about how this game is incredibly _eerie_ when played alone. Those are the two reasons why, no matter how hard I try, I can't just make and play a survival world alone. I just _can't._ It has this liminal, unsettling air that makes it imposible for me to just play alone. It's not that I think something is in the world with me; It's that I know there isn't. And it prevents me from enjoying the game, as I have no friends who really enjoy minecraft enough to play it with me on a semi regular basis.

@Malibus_Most_Wanted I've been playing mc since Xbox 360 edition, I feel the same way. Everyone says the game is easier than it's ever been, but for me it just feels so much harder. I love the updates and I really love the end, but even on easy the spawn rates just make me not want to go into caves at all, or make me fear going out at all during night.
When I heared the sentence "... in 2013 when I was 6..." I just thought about how crazy this is. In 2013 I was 18 and the world of adulthood started to open up for me. I played Minecraft since 2009 and even more after 2013, when I moved out from my parents place. It was even more nostalgic then. Nowadays I play Minecraft only ever so often and on the XBox instead of PC. But seeing this video makes me want to start another session, even if it isn't anymore what it was back then.
Yeah i started playing around the same time and i was like 7 or 8, i absolutely loved the game for years and i stopped playing about 4 or 5 years ago, well my little sister started playing it and it made me want to play it again, so i've started playing it ever since a few months ago and i wasn't a fan of the new updates at first, mostly because i loved the simplicity of the older version, but i gave it a chance and i really love it again. I'm glad i started playing again and i hope you've given it another chance too 😁
Yea I started playing it in 2010 when I was 14. My buddy showed me the game and I was just blown away at how I could manipulate and alter the game world. It was unlike any game I had experienced. Between work, my wife and family, I don't really get to play it anymore. But every now and then I'll think about that first dirt house I built in the swamp 14 years ago.
Wow, I wasn't expecting to cry today. This whole video was amazing and put into words something I've been trying to myself for the past few years. Your outro to the world, specifically "but I can return as a visitor" hit hard. I also started playing in 2013. I was 13 at the time, I'm 24 now. I wasn't allowed to play on servers as a kid and out of the few friends I had back then none of them played minecraft. It was singleplayer all the way for me. I still play occasionally, usually for a couple weeks once or twice a year. I'm realizing now that I've never even been to the end at all. Maybe it's time i change that.
I likes playing minecraft when the ground was not a suiss cheese...when you were falling on a crevasse, you wanted to explore it. Now you're just getting lost in them and the potential of making your mines prettier by building something along the lines of your mining is frustrating almost. only good point is the height they added so that you can build higher.
god this video literally had me agreeing out loud because it spoke to my experience SO MUCH. however as someone who loves building and new features etc it’s always a battle for me because i love all the new block varietys and ability to build complex and detailed structures etc but it just feels so lonely and i can never convince friends to stay on for more than a couple weeks. but if you don’t like building, there’s nothing to do once you beat the dragon. i havent had a fufilling minecraft world where there was soul and finished towns and inside jokes everywhere from hours of playing with friends in a couple years and im so sad that theres nothing to do anymore. even though so much content is seemingly added each update it doesnt enhance the experience or add progression or challenge its just another tool instead of a finished structure yk
This is genuinely one of the most polished video essays I have ever watched. On a topic I relate to deeply and to think back on all the memories I have on the game and my experiences with the newer versions, I can only agree with your words and be thankful for the time you spent making this video, because your words made me realize and come to terms with both my relationship with the game and some of my relationship with myself. Just like the game we will always grow and sometimes growing means changing in ways that, when looking back we might dislike. But that is the nature of growing, and we will continue to grow, maybe finding the changes to be necessary in becoming a better person or someone more equipped to handle life. So thank you. I think the main problem is that minecraft lacks necessity. For us with commitment issues at least. You need very little to thrive in minecraft. New updates just added new locations you don't need to visit and items you never need to get. For all these years you needed to get diamonds, build a cube witch a bed, chests and a small farm I will compare it to a minecraft-like game that is more survival focused. Vintage story. -You can't make good light sources early game, forcing you to build a small house. You get a lot of stuff with a small inventory and small chests, forcing you to expand. No pickaxe or planks means you need to improvise with the crude stuff you have available. -Food is scarce and hard to grow, so you need a proper farm and explore to get various seeds. Then you search for better soil and fertilizers. -For better inventory you need leather, so you make a bow and hunt, then search for chalk for tanning. -For better chests you need copper, so you explore some more, make a saw and a pickaxe. Now you have better tools and can finally mine. -You upgrade your house and expand it with your new options. -Food starts to rot, so you need a cellar and other ways to preserve food, requiring you to look for items like salt and wax. -The wild animals and monsters are dangerous, so you need better armor. It is tedious, so you build a windmill and an autohammer to automate it. -etc. Before you realize, you experienced all the game has to offer, likely traveled to most of the biomes, used most of the items and made a proper homestead for yourself.
Your use of music in this video was so inspirational. Strad has always been my favorite disc, and growing up, it was always my job to build the house for my siblings and I when we played on our PS3. Seeing Strad paired with your house montage almost moved me to tears (and special shout out to Concrete Walls x Exploring the stronghold. Played a lot of PE in 2019, and exploring the stronghold was by far the most memorable part for me 5 years later)

Growing up, playing minecraft on the xbox 360 with the neighbors, or playing the demo version on the laptop my mom let me use when I was ten, or even once I got my own laptop and started playing . Fun fact: minecraft bedrock has it where you can go back to the old aesthetic by downloading a retro pack for free from the martket place. And in the setting of a world your in your can change the ui to be retro too! trust it works ive been a minecrafter since 2014 and it feels so good after recently discovering this

Such a good video. Holy cow man, the editing, the shots, the emotion, the musical choices. Seriously, this is why I love the minecraft community. If you love that old minecraft feeling but don't ever want it to stop, I suggest checking out Beta 1.7.3. I know it's old as sin and is missing a TON of modern minecraft features, but something about the removal of the Ender Dragon makes that exploratory, "find your own fun" feeling always evergreen. There is no end. And so you can just...keep going. Either way, amazing stuff, you've earned your new share of subscribers.

I used to play with my then boyfriend, we had our own realm. Defeated the Ender dragon, went to the Nether, had this long hallway so we could get to other biomes, it was so much fun playing together!
God that line at 2:20 at the bottom of the screen almost made me cry. I remember when i joined I watched that intro video on the super old website over and over again before my dad finally bought me an account, its been probably a decade now but I still know that whole thing by heart, it hurts to know I dont play as much as I used to. This video really hit every emotion and struck a chord in a way I wasn't expecting, but I think you really hit the nail on the head for answering the question presented--at least it feels real for my case. Utter whiplash to hear how young you were when you began playing in 2013, and that's not a slight in any way but rather just. I was 1--12 at the time, and yet the experience is shared to a T. There truly was something special about minecraft in that 2012-2013 timeframe that just stands out so poignantly and you captured every bit of that so so well. I know it's partially nostalgia in some form because my best memories of that era are in the summertime, eating ice cream with my friends while we played LAN worlds together on our clunky laptops that chugged at 20 fps, but it was amazing. And we always found so much to do, even if we only ever killed the dragon with cheats LMAO. I started a 1.13 world in about 2018 and I've been trying to drive it forward every now and then when I get the itch to play, but I definitely agree in the idea of modern minecraft just feeling so bloated that half the time im at a loss for what to do next. I still have to beat the enderdragon and easily could at this point--I have and have had everything ready for most of my playthrough thus far to be quite honest, but I don't know what I'm going to do after even with so much stuff left to do. I think it's a similar conundrum in a way---I don't want it to end but it might be a good time to stop pushing away the inevitable and actually get to read that poem for myself :] This also has me thinking about booting up the first version I remember playing and trying to complete the game there! I found that the loneliness is something good to replicate, when I play I also don't play a lot at once, and instead hop on when I feel like it. I ended up settling in a village in a desolate and barren winter landscape that I slowly fill with life, first I added to and repaired the village, and now I'm digging out a quarry, adding trees, and I have plans to make a warehouse and a lumber mill.

It is not a MMO or RPG so you didn't have to fight the ender dragon to "beat" the game and the games does not end when the dragon is dead. you don't even need netherite to make combat more easy. This is why the progression is not satisfying to the nostalgia community. Most of the progression helps with building. Elytra negates fall damage and cover greater distances for tall builds. Shulkers helps you holds more blocks to make builds away from home base. Swift sneak helps with tall builds as well. defeating the guardians gives you sponges for clearing out water more efficiently. Beacons gives a buff that helps clearing areas faster along with other buffs with varying uses. Your creativity reflects your experience in minecraft. Stop rushing to beat the game.

@@Lethal_Spoon I really think Jappa didnt come to work the day of the design phase for those because while they wouldnt feel out of place with the old minecraft textures they don't fit with the new ones at all.
I always felt the newer mobs (mostly the ones from the mob votes) felt too alien compared to the older mobs, not only their textures but also their animations sometimes are too smooth.

@@Cappuccino_Rabbit yeah, compare the allay to the old vex. the warden has detailed animation but i personally feel it fits the game as mobs of that stature, (ender dragon, wither, elder guardian) tend to have that and it’s not jarring like when camels and striders get it.
In the old versions where the fog was so dense due to render distance limits I used to think I saw other players running around. Which is what made Herobrien so interesting to my little kid mind. But it meant I built my houses like fortresses, because at any point I thought I could be attacked by a player. Because to me I had seen them in the fog.

I was always creeped out by the fog, but I remember leading pigs around with beetroots in my old worlds and waiting to see my base in the distance. There's definitely a different vibe to those different eras.

Videos like these make me cry. How I miss sitting in my parents' basement, 8 years old, playing for hours with my older brother. Friends from elementary school. Childhood friends. I remember using redstone as a trail to help get my friends out of a cave they were lost in, them calling for my help. I remember pointlessly deciding to dig away a small sandy mountain with just my hands. Or when my brother and I decided to build a wooden hotel that reached world height, with a diving board on the top to jump into our pool. I remember my group of friends all deciding to eat pufferfish at the same time together and stumble about. But now my worlds have corrupted and are gone. My cats, dogs, parrots, and horses never saw me again. I and my friends have jobs, husbands and wives, careers, and kids. We were last online years ago. I miss them, and all the good times.
But, I try to always remember: You didn't know it was the good times when you were living in them. Means you probably are still right now and just don't realize it. Make more good ole days. There will always be more.

Genuinely what you said absolutely wrecked me. I can relate on so many levels. Funny enough.. I still play Minecraft because it’s just a cozy comfort game for me. Sure I may not be able to ever revisit the old worlds I’ve had on the ps3.. but I can always make new memories with new adventures to pick from.
I don’t think I’ll ever let go of Minecraft, because when or if I have kids.. I’ll show them how to play, and I can make those memories I had and share them with them.

I stopped playing around 2017-2018 and started again last month. The best way to describe "new minecraft" is its like going back to your hometown after being away for many years. It's the same but so much has changed it doesn't feel the same.
Most of the basic blocks are the same but many have changed textures and functions (ores), so many buildings and they are so easy to find. Villages used to be hard to find, but now in 6 separate survival world within minutes found Villages, temples, and more

i played minecraft alone A LOT as a kid. sometimes with my sister, sure, but i was largely a very lonely and isolated kid. i was very creative, but i hated myself because that did me no good when i tried to make friends. though i never beat the game (i was scared of the nether) the gardening and the tool making and the house building was just so special for me. i remember getting so excited over having horses added on the mobile version. i barely know my way around a new minecraft world now. but it’ll always be a summer morning on my couch next to my window for me, and i think that’s beautiful. this sparked genuine emotion in me, thank you

Same, I try many times. I make a new world, go through all the progression, even to getting netherite armor… and then I stagnate. I keep telling myself I want to be properly prepared for the fight, and somehow I always manage to have an extra “need” on my checklist.
I’ve beaten it in multiplayer, though. Seems I’m more likely to finish what I start when I have a gym buddy (or something like it)
I used to tryhard the game during every single playthrough I had, getting the best gear and beating all the bosses, but now I decided to take a slower approach and focus on building and exploring instead. Because of that on my newer worlds I always end up with iron tools for, like, 95% of the game.
Recently I decided to revisit my older worlds (from 2020-2021) and my god I was so creative with the houses back then, it was kinda crappy though, but it always gave me that feeling of genuine comfort while looking at them.
When I was really young I used to mostly play on servers, either the public or the private ones with some guys I found on Skype/Discord. Nowadays I am too socially awkward to actually try and find someone to play with, so I spend most of my time in single player (rarely on the public minigame servers).
It's kind of surreal how much this game holds a special place in my and many others' childhood (and it still is dear to my heart).
I also pretty much never went to the nether alone. Exploring alone and building was so fun for me as a kid. Now I play with my bf!

It's simple for me: My friends don't play anymore. Even if they do, we play for maybe two sessions before they don't want to go back. Don't get me wrong, I used to play solo too, but there was always the promise of your friends joining or wanting to show them something you made. My creativity isn't enough to keep me going by myself, and anything I make will never be impressive enough to myself for it to feel worth it. If I ever try, the OG music just makes me too...sad. I started playing in pre-alpha. It seems like a lifetime ago. It just gives me a melancholic nostalgia for a time that's long gone, and I can't handle it.

@@rooodis456 Man, I'm gonna be honest with you. That sounds like a lot more work than just playing a fun game. It reminds me of people saying I "should grind [insert tech] in Rocket League if I want to progress." I gave up on the "grindset" with games a long time ago.
I get that I'd probably enjoy Minecraft more if I did drastically improve, but it's putting an indefinite step in between now and then that who knows how long it would last. I'm incredibly uncreative, and it would take a LOT more practice than I'm willing to give to get there, especially when my gaming backlog is full of stuff I need to get around to anyways. I doubt I'll ever reach a point where I never play it again, but I'm ok with accepting I'll probably never play this game a ton again.

But in case people do want to enjoy this game again, I believe that building things you’re proud of is definitely the way to go. It took me a long time to get good at building, but now that I am good at it, it becomes a hobby like painting or Legos rather than a video game

Made me cry. To be able to look back being older now, and realize that this game was forging ideas for our young minds to think more about our own world and appreciate it through the appreciation of the game it's self. With the ending having some of the most impactful words to carry with you in life... far before those words were understood enough to be valued to the fullest extent.
minecraft is often 1 of the things that makes me reflect back on when i was younger in general, what things i wished i coulda changed, wished i coulda done now knowing what i do, knowing where the world and i have headed 10 years from that point and the things i wish to relive as well as knowing the things that shaped me into who i am in the future. i feel sadness but also joy. i smile but i also tear up a bit because there was a time, a year even, where people just got along and all was fine with the world.
i also think back to primary school and secondary school. the people i met along the way, friends, people who cared for and about me even when i didnt, the people who i wish were still with me to this day. those who have sadly lost their life and those who moved on with theirs. i never knew i had alot of good points in life and met such nice people until i finally grew up and reflected on the past. i do miss those days. back then, wouldntve dreamed of it but now, i wish i had another chance to relive those moments. its crazy how much u realised u messed up and the mistakes u made and the things you missed until its too late.

As someone who suffers from motion sickness, I can say that the texture updates was one of the best things that happened in Minecraft for me. I could now play for hours longer at a time and not feel sick after, ESPECIALLY the Nether.
The world texture argument has always confused me when it talks about the grainy versus smoother look. You can have that again, it’s a readily available resource pack in all versions. I’m not going to discount the vanilla textures themselves don’t feel aligned with each other at times in modern Minecraft, but the people who want the classic have the ability to go back.
Man your experience of reality is literally incomprehensible to me.
The texture pack isn’t updated with completely new additions to the game and makes it look like a hodgepodge of different textures. This issue is notable especially in the nether where you can modern nether gold ore from 1.16 clashing right next to old netherrack.

@@sopadss I know a lot of people that nauseous playing games in first person view or allow the camera to move "too much" in third person. It limits what and how they play. Most just end up either not playing much or say say they don't at all to avoid talking about it.
It never bothered me, until I got an injury and lots of blood loss. Then even reading or watching tv caused nausea. Those recovered fairly quick but it took almost too months before I could play a game like minecraft for more than a few minutes. 90% of the time I'm fine now, but if I'm even a little sick, it comes right back.

I remember cliffs and caves release was it for me. I was so excited for it. Played it once, realized I hated how endless yet empty they felt and never played again.
There was something so special about finding a small opening in what you thought was a dead end cave, that just kept going and going. It doesn’t feel the same when I’ve got 200 blocks above my head. Idk how to explain it

I like the caves and cliffs I think its a good edition though one thing I don't like is deepslate since it's just so annoying to mine without a diamond pickaxe, if deepslate was as easy to mine as stone it would have been better and ever since caves and cliffs I notice that your inventory gets full so much faster compared to mining in old caves.

@@soulbox225 yep I wish there were less one use items. And with that I am also attacking the old ones. Like why exactly do we need red mushrooms? What are the dyes for? Just let me use cocoa bean on wool to dye it brown. Why the extra step? If we can craft sticks from different wood types we should be able to craft blue wool from lapis or cornflowers. It's not that hard. I feel like that would help a lot with inventory management. Also maybe expand similiar looking blocks instead of making it a new block type. I really can't say why we have diorite AND calcite. Why do we have tuff, stone and andesite? Also charcoal and coal, what for? It's things like these that take up so much space.
caves and clifss was the reason i got back on the game, since the release 1.0 the worlds lost the random stuff, it was always the same you found a desert you found then all almost no change in height or anything, they fixed all taht with caves and clifss bringing the randomness again, so the same biome can feel so different from each other now, and the caves before was always the same everywhere, boring small tunnels no matter the biome you are always the same, now they are so random so varied, u even have some water pools in some, its just better.
Mods are incredibly important to me. It makes Minecraft truly endless and never boring. Its brought some of the happiest memories in my life. My ex was/is a terrible person but the best memories playing together in a beautiful modded dreamwold like a second life. Aside from that, old Minecraft has something special new Minecraft doesn't: When everything was so limited, people really came together and used their imagination/creativity more to make things work and amazing. Its so rare to see that nowadays. Also, new Minecraft is SO much harder to stay alive. The nether is 1000% more difficult to traverse and many ways to die. As much as I love ancient cities, I hate the world being twice as deep, so many mobs spawning. So even a run for iron is a fight for your life.

True. Was playing minecraft latest version and it gets boring way to quickly, maybe its because of the way i play. I enjoy exploring, finding new stuff, walking around without knowing what i'll find next. So structures mods for me are a must have. New itens also to keep the gaming experience fresh. There is a mod called ''Artifacts'' that, everytime i remember its existance, it bugs my why minecraft doesnt add stuff like it. The mod adds some artifacts that you can find in chests in every structure in the game. These artifacts can be worn by the player and gives unique and special abilities like increased speed, double jump etc. I feel like mojang is worrying way to much in not making the game feel to crowded when it should be worrying in keeping the game fresh and new.
The MEGA SIZED CAVES-AVES-AVES-aves-ves-s are just daunting. If you have a mod that lights it up they're breathtaking but it vanilla, there's 2 problems: how the hell to get down there without taking several in-game days and/or just dying AND even if you light up the floor, there's still so many areas that you may not find or be able to readily reach for them to spawn in. Technically it's still in your control but how many resources do I want to sacrifice just to making it safe to walk through/around this one area?
new minecraft mods have also become stale the older ones had a lot more creativity to it and lost support

I disagree with "the less blocks the better" not everyone likes to build medieval. Dyed glass, terracotta and concrete open the door to so many more building styles and creative possibilities while still being limiting. They don't even have stairs or slabs. And even blocks with a specific purpose like the composter get used to build walls, flower pots, litter boxes, wheelbarrows, etc.
Limiting yourself can be fun but you can't create a painting with a pencil.
+1 I would argue Minecraft lacks a wider block variety even (no concrete/terracotta slabs/stairs for instance, the amount of wall types, among others). Not only that, but how accessible some of these are in large quantities in order to be similarly viable to easier-to-obtain blocks is also a factor if playing survival.
Still if you want to build medieval still having to texture your walls and stuff or it will look ugly as hell. Mostly using 3 or 4 textures. Like for example, from in a good state to extremly worn: Stone Bricks, Cracked Stone Bricks, Tuff, Gray Concrete Powder
Or the same way: Bricks, Polished Granite, Granite
I disagree because yes, the old blocks do have a more medieval direction, but that's what gives the game it's consistency. Sure modern builders can make some great stuff, but for the average player, most builds in modern minecraft look awful. Older versions level the playing field by making the environment match the simplistic building. That and the challenge of making a modern house or something using old blocks creates for more interesting builds than 90% of modern minecraft builds in my opinion.

I think what ruins minecraft is actually speed. At the time you were just discovering new stuff and it felt fun seeing something for the first time and i remember looking for a plains biome for my new house and then i had my mine my farm etc. but now players go in the end with almost no stuff just 4 beds and kill the dragon in 2min but at the time the dragon felt difficult and almost like it had emotions and also walking was actually enjoyable now 99% of players sprint jump because we're impatient and at the time more things were scary like going in water at the time was dangerous because skeletons could throw arrows but now you can cross a river in like 3 seconds. Another thing is we matured and stuff are less scary when i started seeing monsters around my house i was just scared and the nether felt dangerous. Another fun thing was just doing what you felt like in creative like i think most people like me started building a city and in the process got distracted into fun experiments that we enjoyed. Now we compare ourselfs alot to others and minecraft feels competitive and when you make your little house and go on youtube you see a solo guy building a mega city in hardcore and puts you to shame for it.

Nobody wants to do that. Infact I hate stripmining and only found my diamonds through caverns or had diamond spawn really high.
Just came back after taking a break from Minecraft since a few updates ago when everyone got a custom cape for free. It seems every difficulty level is now harder. Easy mode feels more like I'm playing normal difficulty, especially with more monsters in every level than there used to be. All your points also seems valid.

I feel like its mostly the hunger and health regen... i feel like easy should be a place to LEARN the hunger mechanics, not be punished for not knowing them. There should be a constant slow health regen that gets faster when you are full. No HP effects from hunger only stopping sprinting and slowing regen. Even stopping sprinting...like who stops to eat a steak evey minute when they are running? At least give me like 5mins of sprinting I'm fairly out of shape and even I can do that without having to stop for a cheeseburger. Its ridiculous and doesnt add anything fun to the game. If youre on bedrock and have to crouch to block + no sword blocking it just becomes a huge PITA to do anything in survival anymore. Oh wait guys its not annoying enough you better sleep by the end of 3 days or prepare to be annoyed even further.
Literally it seems like the design philosophy changed from "give players freedom/motivate good decisions" to "punish players severely for not playing the game specifically how I play it, and offer no explanation for new mechanics that get people killed. And keeping your inventory is "cheating"

I actually really love the strip-mining phase. because it's soooo mundane, but not too mindless. like you still need to think if you found a cave, lava, or mob spawning out of nowhere. but the mundane grinding looking for the diamond phase is so peaceful.
in today's world where everyone needs outside input like game, social media, TV, Radio, Music, etc. we can't handle even just a single day without it. it can make people sooooo boooreedd, it's torturing. but it's too much, that you forget about the whole conflict and emotion that bottle up inside you. and the strip-mining is the best way to make you think about yourself and detach yourself from this busy world without getting bored
as a rule oriented, need instructions, non openended person, strip mining/the gear grind is like my favourite part. why? it's incredibly straightforward.
the good old days for me in minecraft was when minecraft blew up so much that we started getting minecraft parodies out of pure respect, passion, love and as a thankyou for such a great game that a game company has given us. its the only game that touched peoples hearts so much that they went out their way to dedicate songs about the game, to the community and to the game company. the only time where the world had finally felt truely peaceful and brang people together was around that time. there will never be something even remotely close to that level.

I've actually started to dig a perimeter around my witch farm, by hand, no machines. I was lucky to have found sponges when I made a guardian farm. All the stuff that I find goes into a storage. I'll be finished in three years lol

Everytime Mojang would roll an update out i would lose the motivation to play on the same worlds, this hit its peak in the Caves and Cliffs update and within the last 1-2 years I've barely even touched Minecraft. Yet its the same game i poured 2000 hours of my childhood into...

This is probably the biggest killer for me. I feel like I’m in a perpetual state of waiting for the most recently announced feature to drop so I can “finally” start a new playthrough. But as soon as an update actually drops they announce _another_ feature that’s dependent on terrain/structure generation, which makes me want to wait even longer.
I’m also terrified of playing snapshots or version 1.X updates because I know world-ending bugs can happen that just completely destroy my efforts, which makes me want to wait on version 1.X.X.

@@garlicmynutsThe less stuff you have, the more use you get out of each and every thing. If you have, like, a bucket of 100 legos, you have to get really creative to make them all count. If you have a million Legos in every color and shape you could imagine, it's almost overwhelming how much choice you have. Even though you technically have more creative opportunities, you're so overwhelmed by options that it's kind of scary for you to even start. This also applies to basically everything. I'm sure some people will always do well with infinite block choices, but a lot of people will actually do mote with less.
@@garlicmynutsIt's also worth noting that in the context of survival Minecraft, if you want to use whatever blocks you want you basically have to search for some ultra rare biome or late game item to get it in bulk. This means that most of your time doesn't go into building and instead getting stuff you want to build with, which can be tedious as hell. In creative mode this isn't a problem tho obviously, which is why people commonly just build their stuff in a seperate world before trying to get the materials to remake it in survival.
This video made me remember something.
While the over-world does invoke feelings of melancholy, the Nether makes me feel... empty. I think that's because of one of the most memorable things to happen to me regarding the Nether.
Many years ago, when I was probably 6-8 years old, I had made a friend in Minecraft (one of my very few friends) and we played quite frequently. We made a world on Xbox 360 and made it to the Nether.
We were exploring a fortress, and through some event, he died and I was entirely alone, with all of the gear we had.
I don't entirely remember our conversation, but it was a stressful moment because there was a lot of pressure on me to get back to our base, but I didn't remember the way back at all, I think it went something like this towards the end though (rough estimation):
Me: "I don't know where to go"
Him: "It's alright, try to get back to base safely"
Me: "I'm scared"
Him: "...me too."
Those words always sort of stuck with me. Why? Looking back, it was just Minecraft and there was no real threat of losing anything. Nothing bad was going to happen. Everything was going to be ok.

What a relatable feeling towards what this game has become. I'm 26 now and have been playing Minecraft on-and-off again, since I was 13-14.
I remember the first time I ever played, I spawned on an island with no trees or animals, but I was told this game was "great fun", so I swam and swam, for almost 20 min straight (Remember that you couldnt "sprint-swim"? And that you sank down so quickly, so you had to spam your spacebar just to stay above water? Well ngl, it kinda sucked at first, but I was determined to find something, anything other than ocean. And I did!
I had watched some friends play once or twice before and knew that I had to "get wood" to start, so there I went, looking for trees and half-assing my way through the world.
I remember being so proud of myself for taking the effort to find land, to explore, build a place for myself out of nothing. To tell your friends about the long swim, to show them my creations. And before I knew it, I was hooked.
I never thought of making a new world, to get a better spawn, I didn't know yet, that every world was different. So I kept on playing in that same world for about a year or so, and I accomplished so much!
But then things started changing. At first I got excited with every update, no matter how small, I wanted to try out the new things that were slowly getting added, I loved it! Because of Minecraft, I wanted to work as a gamedesigner, when I grew up!
I started making new worlds every time something huge was added, to try to make that new feature my "new thing" that that world revolved around.
But I also got older, I had to focus on other things in my life. Occasionally I came back, when a big update happend. But after a while, I'd start to notice that I never really got the same feeling from playing, as when I was young(er)..
My dreams of becomming a gamedesigner stayed just that, dreams, but that's okay! I do still yearn for that feeling of freedom, and of creating out of nothing. But Minecraft simply got too overwhelming, for me, too many things to do to choose from. The things I ended up doing, I had done at least 100 times before and the game just became a little stale..
Since about a month ago, I (for whatever reason) decided to start a world again, after nearly 2 years of not having played the game.
It's doing well, I'm learning alot about all the new stuff that's been added~
But most importantly, I'm having fun! By myself. Now I use Minecraft as a creative outlet, so when I'm stressed IRL, I just go hop on for an hour or two and see what happens. No setting goals, no expectations, just seeing what the world of Minecraft has to offer to me this time.

i do feel like im just running on the nostalgia train at this stage. all the old consoles and gaming devices and the old games from those consoles, ive never truely let go of them as if it were a core memmory. trouble is, i dont no where to go from here, how to move on and i dont want to either but ik at some point i have to. im 21 myself, i matured very quickly so i understood what it was like to be an adult and face adult decisions with my teen years which was also around the time when i was still playing bo2 and minecraft. to move on seems alien to me but ik it will end up happening. if that means i end up settling down and becoming a father or im living a normal day to day life without gaming and probally a large form of social media idk, but i can feel that gaming for me is coming to an end for me now. new games arnt too interesting for me, i dont feel the hype that often anymore, i cant find too much fun in a game nor play it for so long and the player base is also boring and the most toxic ive seen to date. i no longer have a drive to play any games anymore. i still play them and can still find fun in them but, theres nothing that excites me in games anymore. nothing to work towards thats worthwhile to me.
I call it the Minecraft blues. Where randomly seemingly out of nowhere you get the urge and creative juices flowing to want to play MC again for a few weeks of months.
@@aerisvulkan2538 imo, yes life drifts on rather quick when u start looking back in your 20s and 30s and even older, seeing how far uve made it, become and changed overtime but i dont think its a waste. ive had my best laughs, met some great people, still talk to an online mate who ive known for 13 years now who is happily married and has kids to look after as well and so on. id say its more been a learning experience and just part of growing up if anything. the media can hate gaming, gamers, millenials and all sorts but we still function as a society moreless the same way in life. as we grow older, we cant help but enjoy the past memmories and wish we went back. its one life and theres different segments within your life where things will just come and go. will i miss gaming? sure. i wouldnt say its had a negative impact on my life though. its more a life experience.
I can rely to this so much. I remember launching the game after school and trying to mine. However at that time I didn't know how to craft a pickaxe (I'm not native english speaker so google wan't an option, and also I was like 7). So I tried mining with just my hand and after that I had to wait till the next day and ask my schoolmate how to craft the pickaxe. So many sweet beautiful memories.

ive been playing minecraft since 2012, and i think you were so right about how the game changed from 'how can i use these blocks' to 'what can i do with these blocks'. i think the game just suffers from *too much*, because its turned into a game of collection before creativity i feel. i was and still am after all these years an avid watcher of stampylongnose, and his whole lovely world deal was 'how can i use this in a way thats unexpected'. using crafting tables as decoration, trapdoors for entire minigames, coloured wool for every build. as mojang adds more and more specific things with single uses, all that creativity disappears or is extremely halted, because why go through all the effort of experimenting and figuring with mechanics to make a boat flow up through a water tunnel when you can just find kelp and a soulsand block? why spend the time exploring your world to find endermen for pearls when you can just trap a pig in a hole and give it gold? why search for materials and build up xp and repair your tools when you can trap villagers for infinite books and nametags and armour? why see your builds through the minecraft block lens when you can use the 'correct' blocks? i miss the creativity
Hey yeah, Stampylongnose! Loved watching his channel back in the day -- miss that. I was talking about him and his friends to my sister and was wondering if we could have that still and my sister commented that Minecraft itself, as well as the community, is different now and not all conducive to that style anymore it seems.
Perhaps other people have a similar experience but what I find is that I am not nostalgic for the game but rather the time spent with others while playing the game. You can always boot up a single player playthrough of a game, but you can't always go back and boot up a multiplayer playthrough with the same people.
I love the way you make videos, the long sections with just music and gameplay with no voiceover makes it feel a lot slower and a far cry from most of the fast paced brain rot content I see all the time.

As you mentioned your fear of completing the game, it reminded me of why I love playing minecraft beta so much. Back then, there was no specific objective to achieve, and you could never really finish the game. The enjoyment came from just building and being creative. I 100% agree that limitations often inspire creativity, and this is particularly evident in those older versions
Modern minecraft offers a lot of content, but I often find myself lacking motivation to play it. With so many options and tasks to choose from, it can be overwhelming, making it difficult to focus on your builds. Rather than improving existing features, new ones are added, making the game feel bloated

Seeing that Roofed Forest in 1.8.9 hit me with something strange. Because I still distinctly remember them being added and being excited to first see them. I also distinctly remember being excited to see tall grass and wolves for the first time. Feels like it wasn't... that long ago.
I'm 26 now. I hopped on Minecraft and started a new Hardcore world, as I've always done. Wandered a Large Biomes world, collecting some treasure, then I sat down somewhere nice, built a house, and then never opened the world again. That's the story of many of my worlds.
You have managed to create a video about something I've not been able to put into words for years. All of the updates minecraft has received have theoretically made the game better. The new textures, biomes, mobs, items etc.
But for me it hasn't.
I liked the old wheat textures. I liked knowing diamonds were at y=11. I liked not being able to break the game with stupidly OP villager trades. I liked when the Nether was barren, just netherrack, lava, and the odd fortress. I liked the late night mining sessions with the boys before we had school the next morning. I liked the sense of achievement which seems to have now been lost.
Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's hiraeth I don't know, but I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels this way.
Such a weird dilemma. There's people praising the game, like yourself, for being a technically superior version of the outdated days of Minecraft. Yet, the criticism for the game is wild considering the issues you have with the game was all down to the decision of how you played the game, which is boring through and through. Such specific irks like wheat textures? What? Maybe I'm fortunate to have evolved with the game, adding to the vanilla experience through the means of other texture packs, or shaders, and other various mods that aren't different, just enhanced. I was 11 of November 2011 when the game came out. Owned it in December that year. The game's been very fun again, why would I strip mine more than a decade later? Rid of those rose tinted glasses.
as someone who has been playing before even the endermen or the nether existed, i can say that i understand the feeling, i not gonna lie, i like the diversity in the new nether, but after exploring for thousands of blocks (literally, i crossed +2000 blocks in search of a fortress) in a world where 80% was just crimsom forests i became bored, i miss the old rocky/fleshy nether, i think it should still be accesible nowadays in between the types of biomes in the nether, and that it should be at least 25% of the whole thing, also, the graphic changes are easier in the eyes, yes, i like the graphic changes in the nether textures, but in the overworld blocks it feels, well...unnecesary, the item design improvement is fine, but lets be honest, the crispy glass nostalgic

I build redstone contraptions, chicken farms for fun and cool bases with fancy railroad redstone switch networks

This is exactly why I still play on legacy console edition, 1.14 on the ps4. It is the perfect mix of old and new Minecraft. It lets you change the textures back to the original ones right when you load up the world, and it still has the 1.8 combat system. The game also has some bedrock features like piston movable containers and dyes in the cauldron to dye leather armor. (Also has the superior Java edition redstone) The minecarts are also 2x as fast, so you can make cool roller coasters. And after all, it feels like the most polished version, even more than Java. It really does still have that old Minecraft feel to it.
I had a dream about this a couple of days ago. Unfortunately by the time I got an xbox 1, minecraft console edition moved over to bedrock. So now all of my xbox 360 worlds are in limbo.
@@fluffydoggo You can still get an Xbox one edition legacy disk and then put it in the console, legacy will play off the disk. Xbox one edition is 1.12. World transfer from Xbox 360 to Xbox one edition still works! Unfortunately the same can’t be said about ps4 edition because Microsoft decided to update legacy edition rather than release a new game for bedrock, with that update removing the ps3 -> ps4 world transfer.

this hit me right in the core, this is gonna be the millionth comment of its kind but i feel the need to get this out of my system, i remember the good old days when i did my homework as fast as i could just so i could go back to my ps3 and play minecraft, which i managed to get only when 1.12 hit the servers but i didnt even know about elytras. i remember my houses, mad without reason and yet... beautiful. the walls i used to put around them to feel safe, i used to lit every inch to not have mobs spawn and have my little safe spot and after all these years, nothing has ever felt safer. im still yearning for that safe spot, that safe space in which i can be me without any kind of external input and i can only find that peace when im fully alone. i want to stay in that peace forever but man life has been hitting so hard. im gonna go to university in like 2 months where did the time go ffs. i used to not even swear thought i was never going to. thank you for making me remember, the proper way.

this is legit one of the best videos I've seen on this platform from a technical perspective. the atmospheric shots, the pacing, the way you accentuate the music we all love with the editing... it's all very well put together and cohesive. and all that while avoiding the oversaturated style that's become so common in minecraft youtube.

it's also relatable for me. i got into minecraft beta 1.5 in 2011 when i was 10, and have been playing older versions again since about 2019 or 2020, because at some point, the modern game had changed too much from the game i originally fell in love with.
the ending made me pretty sad. the ender dragon really is the mother of all commitment issues. after defeating the dragon, you feel like it's the inevitable end of the game. but you were having fun before, so you can just continue playing on the world. the end fight doesn't change anything and nobody can tell you which version to play. you can try updating to the next version if/when you need something new.
the main advice i can give you for commitment to a world is to set your own goals. build your world such that there's always something to do. after you defeat the dragon, there's not much reason to explore and upgrade your gear any more and after you've built a house, why build more? that's where you must find a reason. you could set a challenge or make up a story or just start building something you think will look cool. start a long term project as a sort of "background task", but don't focus on it too much and build some smaller projects alongside it.
This video was fantastic! The slow paced editing, calm tone and wonderful storytelling and personal experience with the game was very enjoyable to watch. It brought me back to the classic ties of Minecraft when the community felt different and the textures were solid. I honestly can't thank you enough.

One of my favorite things to do in Minecraft is spelunking because it’s not as mindless as strip-mining and I love exploring the caves. The caves and cliffs update made exploring big caverns a lot more fun and dangerous for me. Slowly lighting up areas, getting dopamine bursts from mining out veins, and making the area safer with bridges and work stations. I felt like I was conquering the underground.

@@comet.x I actually prefer strip mining. Its a calm experience, with nuggets of excitement when you hit a cave, compared to the constant rollercoaster ride that is modern caving. On the topic of the texture change.
At the time when the textured changed I knew nothing about Mojang/Microsoft or anything like that.
I still remember my world I was playing in, on the day when the textures changed, I was in my sand mine and my thoughts for the first hour of play that day was: "The sand is wrong, why is it wrong? Why did it change?", I searched for anything that was the same in that world, others and even new ones, but they were all "wrong".
Seeing this video and the old textures, feels "right" again.
As if I awoke that day, many years ago, and the sky was purple and when I said it was wrong I was told resolutely that I was wrong. Everyday feeling out-of-place, until today seeing a blue sky and smiling because I was right, the sky had been blue.

- Yeah I remember things like that really pissing me off, although for me it was the Gravel that was wrong, it stood out like a sore thumb clearly looked wrong. Although some things are sometimes cool when you see new things, I think any game where there are going to eventually be fundamentally different changes made, there should always be a "Classic" or "Original" setting where you can say "I pass on the new stuff, just want to play my old familiar game that I already like." In Steam there are sometimes options to "Roll back" to earlier versions ; I think this should be a default option for every game, some people like new stuff added, some people don't, and some people would like the option for either, some days they just want to chill with the old familiar, it would make a much more solid and loyal fanbase more than doubling the population of satisfied players.

i think im starting to slowly come to terms with this as well. i still love minecraft and enjoy it alot, but i cant sit there and play it anymore. its just like fortnite. im getting close now to uninstalling fortnite. not cause its not interesting and fun but, i just get bored and cant play it for long anymore. with the bugs and issues as well and the updates, im not that fussed about it these days. i think the hype train and nostalgia trip for games like this is wearing off slowly and i think its getting to the end of a gaming era for me now where my body is ready to move on and live a life of a grown adult but my mind still clings on to the past.
i dont want to leave the gaming sphere and thats what i think hurts the most. being in it for 15 years, adapting my skill, playing for fun, enjoying the laughs with my mates on there, i cant see a world in which i fully move on away from it however i also feel like im not far from that deep down. its not a decision ive made but a natural process of moving on without really knowing i have. i think thats what hurts and scares me the most. leaving somethig i treasured so much, behind and only being able to look back.
Trying my best to put biases aside, the one thing that definitely made the older days of Minecraft significantly better were the online friends I used to have while playing between multiple servers.

@@Nuvenor I was the person that pulled the “last online 6 years ago” though I actually managed to find 2 of my buds through some rigorous searching that lasted like half a year of searching and waiting to see if they’d be online certain servers. We sadly don’t talk much still cause our lives have changed so much but we still say merry Christmas to one another

commenting this before i’ve even finished the entire video, i’ve recently had a burst of playtime on my hardcore world that I made almost 2 years ago but only sunk 100 hours into and seeing this video just made me so happy to know that other people can find the power to kickstart the fun again. I’m nearly a grown ass man and just hearing strad reminded me of a base I had on an old realm, in the middle of the void, in the end the most lonely place possible but I always played strad to fill the emptiness and it had me on the verge of tears hearing it again. Amazing video, I hope it reaches more likeminded people :)

this was a fantastic video, man. i started playing minecraft in 2013 too, and i was 8 at the time. ive had really similar feelings about minecraft and your video has inspired me to redownload the game and try it again. ive actually never killed the enderdragon? i wrote a personal essay about that in junior year of high school and that was.. two years ago already? its been a long time since i even actually played.
i think the loneliness of minecraft is something i need to experience right now. to work out stuff, yknow?

i thought this was gonna be about why the game is LITERALLY hard to play now (mob spawn rates being much higher, therefore making it hard for someone like me to play alone) or about how this game is incredibly _eerie_ when played alone. Those are the two reasons why, no matter how hard I try, I can't just make and play a survival world alone. I just _can't._ It has this liminal, unsettling air that makes it imposible for me to just play alone. It's not that I think something is in the world with me; It's that I know there isn't. And it prevents me from enjoying the game, as I have no friends who really enjoy minecraft enough to play it with me on a semi regular basis.

@Malibus_Most_Wanted I've been playing mc since Xbox 360 edition, I feel the same way. Everyone says the game is easier than it's ever been, but for me it just feels so much harder. I love the updates and I really love the end, but even on easy the spawn rates just make me not want to go into caves at all, or make me fear going out at all during night.
When I heared the sentence "... in 2013 when I was 6..." I just thought about how crazy this is. In 2013 I was 18 and the world of adulthood started to open up for me. I played Minecraft since 2009 and even more after 2013, when I moved out from my parents place. It was even more nostalgic then. Nowadays I play Minecraft only ever so often and on the XBox instead of PC. But seeing this video makes me want to start another session, even if it isn't anymore what it was back then.
Yeah i started playing around the same time and i was like 7 or 8, i absolutely loved the game for years and i stopped playing about 4 or 5 years ago, well my little sister started playing it and it made me want to play it again, so i've started playing it ever since a few months ago and i wasn't a fan of the new updates at first, mostly because i loved the simplicity of the older version, but i gave it a chance and i really love it again. I'm glad i started playing again and i hope you've given it another chance too 😁
Yea I started playing it in 2010 when I was 14. My buddy showed me the game and I was just blown away at how I could manipulate and alter the game world. It was unlike any game I had experienced.
Between work, my wife and family, I don't really get to play it anymore.
But every now and then I'll think about that first dirt house I built in the swamp 14 years ago.

Wow, I wasn't expecting to cry today. This whole video was amazing and put into words something I've been trying to myself for the past few years. Your outro to the world, specifically "but I can return as a visitor" hit hard.
I also started playing in 2013. I was 13 at the time, I'm 24 now. I wasn't allowed to play on servers as a kid and out of the few friends I had back then none of them played minecraft. It was singleplayer all the way for me. I still play occasionally, usually for a couple weeks once or twice a year. I'm realizing now that I've never even been to the end at all. Maybe it's time i change that.
I likes playing minecraft when the ground was not a suiss cheese...when you were falling on a crevasse, you wanted to explore it. Now you're just getting lost in them and the potential of making your mines prettier by building something along the lines of your mining is frustrating almost. only good point is the height they added so that you can build higher.
god this video literally had me agreeing out loud because it spoke to my experience SO MUCH. however as someone who loves building and new features etc it’s always a battle for me because i love all the new block varietys and ability to build complex and detailed structures etc but it just feels so lonely and i can never convince friends to stay on for more than a couple weeks. but if you don’t like building, there’s nothing to do once you beat the dragon. i havent had a fufilling minecraft world where there was soul and finished towns and inside jokes everywhere from hours of playing with friends in a couple years and im so sad that theres nothing to do anymore. even though so much content is seemingly added each update it doesnt enhance the experience or add progression or challenge its just another tool instead of a finished structure yk
This is genuinely one of the most polished video essays I have ever watched. On a topic I relate to deeply and to think back on all the memories I have on the game and my experiences with the newer versions, I can only agree with your words and be thankful for the time you spent making this video, because your words made me realize and come to terms with both my relationship with the game and some of my relationship with myself.
Just like the game we will always grow and sometimes growing means changing in ways that, when looking back we might dislike. But that is the nature of growing, and we will continue to grow, maybe finding the changes to be necessary in becoming a better person or someone more equipped to handle life.

I think the main problem is that minecraft lacks necessity. For us with commitment issues at least.
You need very little to thrive in minecraft. New updates just added new locations you don't need to visit and items you never need to get. For all these years you needed to get diamonds, build a cube witch a bed, chests and a small farm
I will compare it to a minecraft-like game that is more survival focused. Vintage story.
-You can't make good light sources early game, forcing you to build a small house. You get a lot of stuff with a small inventory and small chests, forcing you to expand.
No pickaxe or planks means you need to improvise with the crude stuff you have available.
-Food is scarce and hard to grow, so you need a proper farm and explore to get various seeds. Then you search for better soil and fertilizers.
-For better inventory you need leather, so you make a bow and hunt, then search for chalk for tanning.
-For better chests you need copper, so you explore some more, make a saw and a pickaxe. Now you have better tools and can finally mine.
-You upgrade your house and expand it with your new options.
-Food starts to rot, so you need a cellar and other ways to preserve food, requiring you to look for items like salt and wax.
-The wild animals and monsters are dangerous, so you need better armor. It is tedious, so you build a windmill and an autohammer to automate it.
-etc.
Before you realize, you experienced all the game has to offer, likely traveled to most of the biomes, used most of the items and made a proper homestead for yourself.
Your use of music in this video was so inspirational. Strad has always been my favorite disc, and growing up, it was always my job to build the house for my siblings and I when we played on our PS3. Seeing Strad paired with your house montage almost moved me to tears (and special shout out to Concrete Walls x Exploring the stronghold. Played a lot of PE in 2019, and exploring the stronghold was by far the most memorable part for me 5 years later)
This video is so powerful for me. Growing up, playing minecraft on the xbox 360 with the neighbors, or playing the demo version on the laptop my mom let me use when I was ten, or even once I got my own laptop and started playing . This video is incredibly well put together from both a visual and storytelling perspective, and I am so happy I was able to enjoy it today. You’ve earned yourself a new subscriber.

Fun fact: minecraft bedrock has it where you can go back to the old aesthetic by downloading a retro pack for free from the martket place. And in the setting of a world your in your can change the ui to be retro too! trust it works ive been a minecrafter since 2014 and it feels so good after recently discovering this
Yeah lol but preferably one should use a "classic textures updated" pack, basically just packs that remakes the textures of new features to fit in with the classic textures. Lots of people have made their own takes on it

I was 7 when i played on the WiiU edition, I still have it, but it doesn't feel the same anymore... Guess i grew up...

Such a good video. Holy cow man, the editing, the shots, the emotion, the musical choices. Seriously, this is why I love the minecraft community. If you love that old minecraft feeling but don't ever want it to stop, I suggest checking out Beta 1.7.3. I know it's old as sin and is missing a TON of modern minecraft features, but something about the removal of the Ender Dragon makes that exploratory, "find your own fun" feeling always evergreen. There is no end. And so you can just...keep going. Either way, amazing stuff, you've earned your new share of subscribers.

I used to play with my then boyfriend, we had our own realm. Defeated the Ender dragon, went to the Nether, had this long hallway so we could get to other biomes, it was so much fun playing together!

God that line at 2:20 at the bottom of the screen almost made me cry. I remember when i joined I watched that intro video on the super old website over and over again before my dad finally bought me an account, its been probably a decade now but I still know that whole thing by heart, it hurts to know I dont play as much as I used to. I love the game and it will forever stay with me
This video really hit every emotion and struck a chord in a way I wasn't expecting, but I think you really hit the nail on the head for answering the question presented--at least it feels real for my case. Utter whiplash to hear how young you were when you began playing in 2013, and that's not a slight in any way but rather just. I was 1--12 at the time, and yet the experience is shared to a T. There truly was something special about minecraft in that 2012-2013 timeframe that just stands out so poignantly and you captured every bit of that so so well. I know it's partially nostalgia in some form because my best memories of that era are in the summertime, eating ice cream with my friends while we played LAN worlds together on our clunky laptops that chugged at 20 fps, but it was amazing. And we always found so much to do, even if we only ever killed the dragon with cheats LMAO.
I started a 1.13 world in about 2018 and I've been trying to drive it forward every now and then when I get the itch to play, but I definitely agree in the idea of modern minecraft just feeling so bloated that half the time im at a loss for what to do next. I still have to beat the enderdragon and easily could at this point--I have and have had everything ready for most of my playthrough thus far to be quite honest, but I don't know what I'm going to do after even with so much stuff left to do. I think it's a similar conundrum in a way---I don't want it to end but it might be a good time to stop pushing away the inevitable and actually get to read that poem for myself :]
This also has me thinking about booting up the first version I remember playing and trying to complete the game there! It'd be a HUGE difference to modern day stuff but I think it'd be refreshing! 1.2.5 gang rise up 💖

Minecraft had a scary atmosphere that was only changed by your creativity.
I found that the loneliness is something good to replicate, when I play I also don't play a lot at once, and instead hop on when I feel like it. I ended up settling in a village in a desolate and barren winter landscape that I slowly fill with life, first I added to and repaired the village, and now I'm digging out a quarry, adding trees, and I have plans to make a warehouse and a lumber mill.
One of the hardest videos I've seen. It really hit a nerve. It's just so much of what I felt the first time I hoped into Minecraft on 1.5.2 and made me remember all the things I did just because they seemed cool and amazing.

It is not a MMO or RPG so you didn't have to fight the ender dragon to "beat" the game and the games does not end when the dragon is dead. you don't even need netherite to make combat more easy. This is why the progression is not satisfying to the nostalgia community. Most of the progression helps with building. Elytra negates fall damage and cover greater distances for tall builds. Shulkers helps you holds more blocks to make builds away from home base. Swift sneak helps with tall builds as well. defeating the guardians gives you sponges for clearing out water more efficiently. Beacons gives a buff that helps clearing areas faster along with other buffs with varying uses. Your creativity reflects your experience in minecraft. Stop rushing to beat the game.
