- During a service call last week the homeowner agreed it was time to replace their aged and worn Federal 3 zone valve gas fired boiler and leaking 50 gallon State water heater. In this video, I document the removal of the original 60+ year old equipment and installation of a new Weil McLain CGa5 gas fired hydronic boiler. For domestic water heating, we installed an AO Smith GCR-50-400
Since this system only has a 1" single pipe supply with 3 3/4" returns, we installed the Webstone 1" IPS Vertical Air Separator. Details available here: www.webstonevalves.com/default...
Some of the tools and material we used:
Milwaukee M18 Force Logic Press amzn.to/3wkPZ48
Milwaukee M12 Automatic Tubing Cutter amzn.to/3f1lCdd
Milwaukee M18 LED Light Tower amzn.to/3foDopu
Klein Insulated Screwdriver Set amzn.to/3fqXgZg
2 Wire Wago Lever Wire Connectors amzn.to/3fzdaAG

Just subscribed and watched a bunch of your videos today. Used to be a tech years ago but retired now. Some great stuff you're posting.
Great video as usual nice professional install 👍🏻
Learning a lot from you, really appreciate all the insight! Keep up the great work
Nice job Mike and crew. Think if I was working like I used to five years ago I’d be all over that Pro Press system. I’m 65 and now only work a couple days a week and pass on larger jobs now. But I can see the value in that system . The time saved and the materials you don’t need ( solder, flux, torch ) , are more than enough to compensate for the cost of the fittings and eventually the tool. Love the isolating flanges, started using them years ago. Nothing nicer than being able to change a pump without having to drop a system because somebody was too cheap to put one in from the start. I isolate every component in a hydronic system, just smart to do. 👍👍👍🇨🇦
I absolutely love your installations and service work very perfessional neat looking and organized, keep up the excellent work
Thanks Mike i just start my business in Chicago land and this is good teaching video.
Beautiful job
Oh Good , I was starting to think Navien put a hit out on you !
I was thinking the same thing with no new content. Mikes gotta feed the people haha
Same
That driver is an ECX #1 size. It fits the screws on outlets and switches and won't slip out like a flat blade when you're being one handed Mike.
As usual nice clean job I also like the purging flanges makes a nice clean looking job first time I have seen the vertical air bleeder I really like that a lot less room taken up we'll have to check that out have a good restful night Mike
Well done, as always Mike!
Thought we lost you for a while. Can’t wait to see the new video
I was jonesing yesterday watching reruns! Excellent install.
Interesting vid.👍
Epic ....again
Just found the channel, love it. Did you get the discharge pipe on the tpr valve and tape the hole... I'm sure you did. Love the channels.
good job guys, did you forget to plug the test hole in the stack?
really nice work you can tell u been thru alot bro hats off to u love this trade i kno 3 is usually a crowd but i always get a third for the big jobs so the work area stays somewhat organized lol cuz as u can c beautiful install but u cant get paid untill u guys cleans up that tornado that hit that room lol Peace! & Love tp u
Screw driver is for the robertson/standard screws on conduts/boxes. It was on a tv show like sharktank in Canada.
Another Fantastic Professional Looking Job. Well Done Mikey Pipes. Only top quality craftmanship in advertising your trade here on UA-cam that is for sure in acquiring new clients. At the end of your video, I didn't see a drip leg on water heater relief valve. Is that not code in New York?
In our control panel shop we can't use can't use the standard crimpers we have to use those ratcheting type because UL requires it and we are a UL panel shop.
Hi Mike. Do you think it's necessary to install flow check valve in each zone if you use pumps instead zone valves?
So if you had the room and piping arrangement, do you prefer your circs on the supply side or does it really not matter as much as some people make it out to be on a residential boiler
Well thought out! I dig it
Sweet the Best
I’m sure you plugged the test hole you drilled and ran a piece of 3/4” copper off the T&P valve on the water heater 😂😂😂. I was getting scared not hearing from you for a few days…it appears the interview guy has some experience, so that’s a good thing 👍. Welcome back!
Section 314.16(B)(1) requires each conductor that originates outside the box and terminates or is spliced within the box to be counted once, and each conductor passing through the box without splice or termination is also counted once. Section 314.16(B)(2) is all about clamp
Thanks for sharing
Good to see ya got a new tech already...I look forward to getting to know him. Kelvin and Steven were good so we'll have to see what hes like...
What the difference between the oo15e and the 007?
20:00 Aren't we supposed to be pumping away from the expansion tank?
Nice install! Could not see how the return side was supported in case the expansion tank fails. Was it supported on pump return lines close to the ceiling?
Didn't see any threaded rod supporting the return side piping.
What is the efficiency of the weil McClain CG 5?
Does CG 5 have electronic ignition or pilot light?
Mikey, that single gang metal box should’ve been a double because you’re over the limit on wires in that particular box, not to mention it’s pretty crammed in with the Waco
Malco zip snips are the best snips ever made! Know one else even compares!Max 2000 malco is new name
You guys ever deal with the work McLain gv90s with the secondary heat exchanger?
NOPE. NOT REALLY.
@@PipeDoctor ahh ok been looking into RELIABLE condensing boilers and they really caught my eye
Hey Mikey I don’t do boilers but was curious do you have to set gas pressure at the gas valve like you would do with a furnace on a start up? Such as first stage/second stage etc. thanks for the vids. I was starting to worry you weren’t feeling the love.
Did Mike reply to this if not. On that boiler it has manifold pressure I am pretty sure and just 1 stage. On high efficiency boiler it usually a negative gas valve and the only way to set it up with a flue gas analyzer depending on brand. But on boiler like that you check manifold pressure and flue. "If you are not testing your guessin"
no Low Water Cut Off?
way to go Mikey nice job thanks
Good I've going to sleep hungry the past few days.🤣
@@PipeDoctor hey what Milwaukee expander do you use for pex a
Was that the boss who placed the hand truck against the water meter? Not good
Damn we miss Godzilla, what a great personality! Excellent job Mikey much love! Mikey pipes for president 2024! Whatever happened to that guy in the green dungarees? Can’t remember!?!?
Sorry bro I wish you would have said that earlier about the stickers I would have left you a 5 Page Comment in the email about your videos And how much I look forward to Watching What you had going on for the day. When I get home from doing a furnace air replacements everyday. Keep doing what you do
Bro you holding the ginger ale gets me everytime shit is funny as hell
I love the intro!!!!!!
Your helper did a good job. I have mine always mark the depth of the propress fitting. That way they know if it truly on.
That screwdriver is for plugs and switches
Thanks so much for the clarification
Fuckin zip tie holding the steel NG pipe by the copper water pipe😂
Damn, Mike. I got so enthralled watching this vid, I burned my French fries in the oven. lol
I like how the lwco is built into the CGa now.
Yes finally hahaha best is getting done work to watch your vidoes haha
screwdriver is for electrical receptacle and switch screws with combo square and slotted heads. they work well for that.
Por favor senor mikey pipes.
Why’s Godzilla leaving? Man I would fucking love to work under you! All the boiler and heating work you do is exactly what I wanna learn
@@PipeDoctor I do commercial service in Toronto Canada, think they’d give me a visa if I told them I’m coming to work for Mikey Pipes?!😂 hahah I wish, keep up the great work man love the videos
@@RJHerber a testimonial in the UA-cam comments, I love it! But I don’t doubt it!
Did you forget, or did I miss, the green ground jumper to the metal switch box for incoming power?
I’ve seen some ppl use deemed to sand the copper pipes or some attachments thag hook up to your drill have your used any
15:30 efficient as fuck.
Hey Mikey love the vids but i noticed at the end of the video you didnt put a plug in the flute where you drilled to do the combustion test. Keep up the awesome work you are doing, I have learned a lot from your videos.
The Milkwee screw driver is a hot screwdriver.
Hey St. Mike, noticed at the end, there was no plug in the hole that you made where you used the testo.
Mikey when ever you install a single pole switch. You need to install a 1900 box. That handy box there is too small and has too many wires. Plus wago. Over crowed . No air space ,
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely keep that in mind for my future installations.
@@PipeDoctor I’ve seen you from the beginning to now. Your company has grown. And you have given the minority a chance in the trade. Especially now and days nobody wants work and hard to find talent. Keep up the good work and god bless 🙏🏽
Yeah Mikey and help, Why work Harder when you can get Steven to do it for youz. Circulators on return receive cooler water. Grounds first, Neutrals 2nd, Hot Last in first out. Look's like nice Job.
Why is Godzilla leaving?? :(
What's the thing to the right side of the water meter?
No mag separator with ECM pumps AGAIN!! Pumping into point of no pressure change again. Could have used a single variable speed pump on the supply, that way its pumping away from expansion tank. Used 3 zone valves on return manifold, instead of selling 3 $200, and the variable speed nature of the single pump on the supply would account for the changing delta P for when 1 or all 3 zone valves are open. It looks pretty, but that is 2nd to functionality and correct piping far as I'm concerned.
@Mikey Pipes - Pipe Doctor Plumbing & Heating & Air...Gee I wonder why smart ass? Is there any ferrous material in your piping? Sure is! Is the heat exchanger made of ferrous material? Sure is!! No mag separator, the pumps become the mag separator there, Pipes. Way to pump into the point of no pressure change by the way. I'm sure your air eliminator will work wonders that way. I know what the hell I'm talking about or I wouldn't say it. My Dad did is always warn me about arguing with fools though, maybe one day I'll follow that sage advice. God forbid you might learn something instead of acting like a know it all, J-Off. Peace!!!
Mikey pipes no pipe down for the water heater relief valve what happened there
What happened to pumping away ?
15:30
Hi mike, it looks like you forgot to put a plug in the exhaust flue test hole. Kelvin would have never missed that. 😜
👍👍👍
So interview guy, 17 years if experience, and doesn't show up with his own tools? Forget the ride-along interview... Tell him to bring his tool kit and display it, better yet go to his home and look at his work. I understand a kid not having tools, but he should have acquired his tool kit.
and mix up your tools with somebody else? its doomed to go wrong if it doesnt work out
Hope you didn’t forget the plug for the vent damper!
Mikey pipes is very trusting leaving the truck door open and unattended
That’s a baby boiler ?
No pressure working interview and movie star all in one day.
24:15
Where’s Godzilla going
Thank God someone sent Godzilla the Mr.T starter kit.
"I pity the fool......"
On that specialty screwdriver you might need the next size down for a residential panel it may only fit commercial panels possibly I've never seen one before but I know what it is just maybe who knows you keeping your feet dry LOL :-) :-)
Going to miss Godzilla
Where is going?
Hi Mike, did you get enough cheesecake these past few days?
With Godzilla leaving i think some of the female viewership may go away Mike.
Flue Plug?
You missed the plug for the O2 testing sight in the flue..
You and your guys should be wearing safety glass when using the sawzall and Metabo!
Who’s the new guy?
@@PipeDoctor gotta get Phil to put the tools away! Looked like you were cleaning up after him 🤣
Hey Mike where is Godzilla going. Is he in his own truck soon?
I liked him on your show but good luck to him. I work as a plumber gasfitter in Ontario Canada. I have had guys come and work with me and I tried to pour knowledge of the trade I love in to them and try to make it a fun job. It can be a hard trade and the hours are intense at times. (EI I was out Saturday fitting a leak at a carwash.) So all I can say it must suck a bit for you Mike but you can't hate a guy for trying and finding he wants something different. All the best Godzilla. Home owners don't get it sometimes they think they own you be cause they are paying you hourly.
@@RJHerber eat a frank
@@mrcruz6404 lol I had to look up on urban dictionary on what "eat a frank ment". Hope you didnt get offended from what I said. All I was saying is during heating season I am hardly home. I might have to head out to apartment building be cause 200 people don't have hot water. It can suck.
@@alexbecker9588 not you brother, I’m speaking to the keyboard warrior rjherber. I appreciate your positive feedback and I wish you well in all your future endeavors as well!
@@RJHerber where are all those people with mechanical aptitude that you were supposed to recommend? 🧐 I hope they aren’t as hard of hearing as you. You just babble about things you absolutely know nothing about. You get a 10 min clip and think you know the whole story, but I’m delusional... Either way, you’re irrelevant to me now. Continue to the enjoy the show, I hope that you find more purpose in life than to sit here and try to tear someone down over a computer. Be a better person!
Does my boy Godzilla have tights on wtf??
It’s a electrical panel and circuit breaker screw terminal driver
Did you forget to put the plug in the flue pipe? it wasnt in when you showed the owner.
The screwdriver is for something you may not run into a whole lot. It’s really common on breaker lugs and random electrical connections. I haven’t seen a whole lot of those kinds of screws in the equipment you work on mike but man that vans big enough so just throw it in.
Never underestimate the doctor
I wouldn't use those knockoff wagos for anything more than 24v.
Mikey Hot Pipes LOL
“These snips suck”
Me- 🤦🏻♂️
Mikey, just WHAT is going on with the electrical panel in your office. Come on man, lol. I know you know a bit about electrical :)
Those are fakos
You had me worried thought you quit youtube
I should have known better. My apologies
I meant nicest way but y'all will quit wearing jewelry when you almost get killed by some three phase and a dang Ty clip almost happened to me so you can do what you want but we all know it's where at your own risk just had to say something
Well honestly that day I didn't mean to either but no I had a lid off a piece of equipment leaned in and my tie clip made a shoulder path to me luckily I survived it hurt a lot but it's just one of those things I am a firm believer of no bling bling and the job job unless you're in an office but that's just my opinion and my company policy with my associates keep up the good work either way and keep your feet dry
oh no
there goes kokomo
