Thanks so much running through this Zulf. The only other option for recording video from camera HDMI to an independent drive I could find was either an Atmos or Blackmagic device at $800.00. This was extremely helpful!!

I was planning on using the Canon webcam utility with my SL3. Problem is, the utility is not compatible with my old OS 10.11.6. So I'm forced to try using a capture card. Thank you for showing how to connect the camera to capture card and the different connections involved. The explanation cleared up my confusion.

Do you know if there's a way to change the aspect ratio that the card outputs? I have an older camera that is putting out 4:3 which is being stretched to 16:9 by the card.

Thanks for the video Zulf. I lost a lot of time this afternoon trying to setup this. Luckly I`ll be able to return the card
I bought. By the way the panasonic image is WAYY better than the Canon you couldn`t hold the surprise in your face lol. I was surprised too.
I think that is because that`s is what that camera model is made for: recording. The business of those canons are photos i think. Thoughs?

Your right the Panasonic was good however it later found I set it at 1080p, the Canon was 720 stretched to 1080p in obs. So it looked a bit hazed. Here is example of the Canon quality in full 1080p. ua-cam.com/video/PRRbBlX3a3o/v-deo.html However I would be happy to use the camcorder it was easy and quick to setup.

Man, I ordered one of these myself thinking it was needed for my particular camera -- I have a Sony a77ii and it turns out that IF you own a Sony, you just need to download Imaging Edge Desktop. This allowed me to literally view, edit, and capture my live feed without the mess of the capture card. I want to say in some instances a capture card would be worth it like if you're going for the best quality and the highest quality. Like you said in the beginning, "learn from my mistakes." The capture card might be inexpensive but you might be able to save yourself the hassle of buying and waiting on cords or the capture card itself IF your current camera has software out there that doesn't need to card to capture the live feed. Thanks for the information in this video! I learned a lot from my own mistakes and from watching this as well.

*Here's how to get the best visual quality out of this capture card, (ive spent a good few hours experimenting to find this out)*
Ok so I believe this capture card only outputs at a LIMITED REFERENCE RANGE (16-235), Which means on pc the image will be washed out, or darked out.
    *HOW I FIXED IT!:*
    - Put my xbox 360 "reference levels" display settings to STANDARD (limited)
    - Then in StreamLabs OBS, video capture device settings I set COLOUR RANGE= FULL
    - Then add colour correction filter to Video Capture device
    - Gamma= -0.07 / Contrast= +0.02 / Brightness= -0.01
Now the colour and brightness will be PERFECT! Now on your pc monitor the video capture card shows black=0 and white=255.
*No longer washed out 16-235 range. Now full 0-255 range.*
You can test if you wish by going to your in game video calibration settings for brightness, and take a screenshot and import to photoshop, the blacks = rgb 0, and the whites = rgb 255
