I do satellite TV installations and have long thought it would be handy to be able to use my phone a monitor for a satellite TV receiver. This for situations when a customer does not yet have a tv in the room where they want a receiver which actually is quite common with movers. Sounds like this might be just the ticket.
I work for a cable company and this is exactly why I'm here 😂
There are plugin HDMI transmitter and receiver if you want to get flexibilty of walking around with the phone.

I have that video capture card. It may do well for this purpose, but with raw YUV, it really gets bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 connection. The MJPEG option used most commonly also has stuttering problems when there's so much motion - it saturated my USB bandwidth trying to record a high-action video game. If you need something less...laggy, look for a USB3.0 capture card.
could you recommend something? I'm wanting to use this for playing games at work in the car? (I like to play ark on my lunch break, and I hate having to move my seat every time to accommodate the laptop, lol)
I'm a total beginner to video. Thank you for this!
Sweet! Imagine chucking an Xbox in a backpack and playing near an outlet on the go!
Hell yes
I also wanna try it on my ps3 but i wonder if it capture the audio
Anybody tried it yet?
Nice! Thanks for sharing this! Now I wish my phone could record the 4k 10bit 422 output lol
Now it's only a matter of time before someone creates an app with features like peaking and zebra's. Amazing.
On the gh5 you can actually output them already :D
@@NEONAIRSHIP does this work with sony a7iii
@@NEONAIRSHIP how do you output them? Been searching everywhere and can't seem to figure it out
@@matthewskelton5855 ua-cam.com/video/6XP7mrwXaSA/v-deo.html this should help, you can either display a clean feed or mirror whats displayed on the LCD
@@NEONAIRSHIP I appreciate that bud, thanks
can be connect an Android phone to a satellite receiver , where the phone acts as and you dont need a tV for tuning
Thank you sir this will help me alot because my lumix g6 lcd is busted
I can plug my Nikon z6ii to my Android Phone with usb-c to usb-c and use Camera Connect+Control App. The live view on the App works perfect, no latency at all. The only "small" problem is, that when you plug a usb into the camera, it won't record. The record icon is crossed out and the camear is probobly in datatransfer mode. That's total sh**t. With Wi-Fi it is a huge latency, though the autofocus works. Thank you for the solution, though it is overkill with adapter count.
Does not work with phones having usb type c 2.0(color bands), it only works with usb type c 3.0 & above(basically expensive phones).
As long as the phone supports OTG, it should work. Micro USB, type c, USB 2.0 or 3.0, all don't matter. Again, as long as the phone supports OTG, software and hardware-wise. Android version should be at least Android 5 for better compatiility.
Interesting. I'm doing a lot of fiddling around, and have lots of alternative equipment, one good-enough Android with a reasonable screen and reasonable memory, one getting-on-a-bit-now Android with an amazing screen and lots of memory, a Linux box, an HMDI signal source, that HDMI/USB converter, and a dodgy-looking OTG cable which might just be a normal USB lead. So the lead could be a weak link, and it won't work with the new phone. It does work with Cheese on Linux, used for testing webcam feeds, which are much the same thing. So maybe I can test my phone software (and cable) with the webcam.
Update: USB webcams can indeed provide a ready test feed, although all feeds are not created equal, and results will likely vary with varying feeds. I tried an OTG Hub instead of the recommended cable at first, and although it detects and identifies the webcam feed, it surprisingly doesn't have the bandwidth for the actual feed data. The recommended cable fixes that issue.
Hi, is it possible to tell me what equipment to buy for vloging but the cheapest way please. Thx.
Can we attach intel PC stick for display in mobile?
all control (focus) stay in camera or change in smartphone sir?
is the setup for live streaming camera and phone using your phone monitor and internet connection?
Does the phone monitor screen go black when you press record on the camera?
Will this work if you want to live stream from your phones cellular data but used the Dslr for your visuals?
for bmpcc 4k work?
Thanks for the content, very helpful!
Hey!! Soo many doubts sir!!! I've got a hdmi elgato but it works only on 3.0 and sadly otg that I own its an 2.0. Was thinking to buy an otg 3.0 but i didnt found it with the normal android female charguer hole, just found it with usb C so.... Wich way could i go, should I buy your capture with 2.0 using my 2.0 otg cable? Wich should be the proper way to use my ElGato camlink. Congrats for the video, very very usefull!!!!! And thnks a lot.
by connecting the phone to the camera how to record video
Great vid! Thanks for sharing!
Hello. Thank you for this video ! Is the latency due to the phone or the capture card? The latency is too much for use, so I would like to know if a higher end card or phone would reduce the latency to near zero. Thankyou.
Probably mostly the capture card but hard to say
@@NEONAIRSHIP Thankyou for replying. It's such handy idea, because the video monitors are so heavy and require large batteries. This way makes it possible to keep very light and work in a more ad-hoc way.
I will try it out because i have this cheap one and also a expensive one
wow wow can we do this iinverseee i mean use my cam as a web cam but as dslr cam i mean no droid cam or other app just video capture
Bad what about the battery in old smartphone?
Why "bad" ?
For old smartphone's batteries, you'll need external power provided to them with an adapter allowing to split the USB port between signal & power delivery (there are videos about it as well), &/or to replace the battery if it's not usable at all.
does it accept other audio input like the audio jack in the phone or is it just the HDMI source? I really want to know if we can use the phone as an easy mixer for the cameras that don't have an audio in jack
Will this work to get a larger screen for viewing purposes on a camcorder? Please advise. Great video!!!
If you have a Hdmi output on your camcorder then yeah :)
@@NEONAIRSHIP Thanks for responding. You've opened up a new viewing world! Thank you. Thank You!! THANK YOU!!!
@@NEONAIRSHIP I'll connect the device to an flat screen TV. Won't miss a beat now. 🤗📽️
brilliant!!!! thank you!
Does this work if you're shooting in 4k?
Specifically using Sony cameras (a7sii and a6400).
Thanks for this amazing video, I was about to purchase a monitor for my Blackmagic Pocket 4K.
I already ordered the two recommended accessories, I just have a problem with the Endoscope APP.
The link to the Play Store no longer exists and the search for 'Endoscope HD Camera' does not give a consistent result, even searching for the developer that I saw in the video.
If you can give information about the updated link, or any other alternative that you have in the meantime, I would be grateful.
Thanks again and have a nice weekend.
camerafi works pretty well straight from the play store on android 11 onwards
@@NEONAIRSHIP Thank you!
The only problem is the monthly subscription :-(
Can i use for canon 77d same method for that typ of screen tell me bro
I've never used the 77d but it has hdmi so I guess so!
Great vid! Got me exited to buy one.
Does it support 4096x2160 60fps?
The output is only 1080p 30 fps but it'll accept a 4k input
@@NEONAIRSHIP the output works for me, but for the input, I read it accepts 4k (3840x2160), but I record at 4096x2160 60fps. Do you happen to have tried 4096x2160 60fps?
I've not but you can usually configure your hdmi output on the camera to be 1080 regardless of what you record at
@@NEONAIRSHIP i feel like such a noob... didnt know that haha. Thanks man!
I assume the apk file is safe to use as my phone warned me it could harm the phone. Using FPveiwer, but it does look pretty bad on my G7.
Yep no issues for me. Ran virus scans etc all good
Question...
First thank you for the idea..
Ive got it with my Z6 now.
But the only app who really Works on my P20pro is
USB Camera pro from ShenYao.
So far so good.
But there is no cheep small Actual Android Phone on the market.
The P20pro is too big for that Kind of Job.
For that size i would better Use a feelgood 5 or 6.
But i have there a 2016 iphone SE.
Perfect Size for this use and it's Actual on ios 14.
So Anyone kows of and with wich app this Works on ios?!
I have a question. I dont have a high end PC and I want to stream using my phone. Is it possible to do the same way you did, but instead I connect it to my console (xbox/ps5) and use my phone as a monitor. Then Im gonna use a screen capture maybe streamlabs on my phone to stream to facebook. Do you think that would work?
I haven't tried it but I think it should work
@@NEONAIRSHIP Thanks!
Does this also setup also ouput audio? Im planning to use my phone as a mobile ps4 monitor.
It depends on the app, some support audio and some don't. But yeah with the right app
Tried on 3 phones. Pixel 4a, works. Huawei P40, does not work. LG K61 sees only black... I have no clue what the phone has for requierements.
Huh interesting, I think it just has to support usb otg
@@NEONAIRSHIP All 3 mentioned phones support OTG.
I assume it has also something to do with power delivery, because the HDMI USB Adapter needs power from the phone, to function correctly. Only the Google Pixel 4a obviously can manage everything correctly.
Huawei P40 kills the apps constantly. And the LG K61 manages to give only as much energy as the device is being turned on, but the picture decoding seems then to be to much.
Will it work if i use USB-C to HDMI cable?
Nope you need a capture device
I knew this could be done in some or other way. And here it is. Thank you so much for the video!!!
Hi if u tried it and if you have brought these things please tell me from where I can buy these things
IM LITTERALLY CREAMING AAAAA
holy shit.
woooow. i was looking for cheap external monitor but never think about using my phone as external monitor! great idea! thanks! 😘
Brilliant Hack, this is what UA-cam is for! Well done.
yo, i cant believe the ammount of subs you got compared to the quality video you produce - i cant recall when anyone ever had such a great idea like that, i think this video will skyrocket aswell as your channel - cheers man!!!! +1 sub ;]
It's because it's my idea!
Really great to see this! Also i'm glad that it has so many views. It seems like more creative content like this could get featured on YT rather than the all the paid /sponsored content that doesn't look for simple/ creative solutions first. Congrats!
grrr.cant fine this EXACT APP> I had that when someone point a VIDEO....says look for a spafic APP and google PLAY changes the NAME or DESIGN OF THE APP.
CAN I use my ps4 instead of the camera????
Freakin genius! I’ve got an old tablet knocking around. Will give it a go with that. Can’t use my phone as I use it with my parrot teleprompter
Thank you for posting this video 🎥🍿🍺🇺🇸👍. You have a new subscriber 🎉. Keep up the great 👍 work 🎉.
Do you know why i cant download the android 10 version ?im install the app and click for download for androind 10 but nothing happened ... Or do you have apk that support android 10 ?
Can this method works on a hard drive? Like instead of using a phone, the video capture card will be plugged directly to a hard drive or a storage where it has GB memory to it like sd card or something. In that way the video or files that you’ve recorded will be saved to the device like hard drive or sd card that i mentioned. Please respond thanks!
Nope
@@NEONAIRSHIP thanks for letting me know sir!
i DO NOT LIKE to stick cameras where the sun dont shine sir HOW DAAAAAARE YOU!!!
Just picked up one of the cables and capture cards and for the 15 USD including next day shipping i'm definitely happy with the results. Just need to pick up a few more of these capture cards now and see what else I can use them for!
Is there not a way or an app to do it with straight with a USB-C to HDMI cable?
I'm gonna use this for my n64.
It work bro??
@@bawanghijau6645 it did!
I tried this setup and it works nicely but my issue is, it is not plug and play. I have to insert a flash drive first on the OTG cable then plug to the capture card before it can recognise the output from the HD Video card. Is there a way to automatically recognise the output from the capture card.
My smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy S9
Thanks for this solution. I have to do the same too.
Raspberry pi hq camera + this seems like a good option
That's one of the thing I was thinking about. There's millions of great quality display screens out there just waiting to be recycled and if you can open that converter and mount it on the board, you'd have something for cheap.
In the playstore I found a great app after a few days of loading and trying and uninstalling. I HATE ADs so if it has a single ad it is deleted. I found OTG Viewer 2 and it works really weell and NO ads.
Unfortunately, it did not work for me.... I'm using a GH4 and a Xiaomi F3.
Thank You SOOOO Much Sir!!
This will hopefully help me to obtain a sharper focus. I'm tired of missing the mark due to bad eyes. My SL1, I can not rely on the lcd display, nor the viewfinder, for sharp, crisp images due to my issues. This just may be the solution.
I have found everything you listed. (3.0) and about to purchase them!!
Thank You Sir :)
Just curious about latency. Also what capture devices have you tested? This is very interesting
I'm gonna run my raspberry pi on a garbage old android phone. Recycling, save the planet and all that
Great tutorial! I found this HDMi device and a couple of useful cables lying around. I tried connecting it to my camera Panasonic Lumix G7 and it actually works! Now i just need to find a phone holder. Thanks alot.
But i think endoscope HD only saves video without audio. Or maybe i didnt set it up properly.
I know the g7 stop sending hdmi signal when recording, does that happen when you try to record with the phone attached?
Ahh I found this again. Trying to search mostly just comes up with videos about obvious wifi connection. I have the adaptor so just need to try it out now
does it work with shooting videos with the camera?
3:20 xD
How about the 30 minutes time laps recording period? Their is possible that it prolong the time of dslr camera using android phone?need your help please🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
did you found the solution yet?
I ordered the cables using your links and it works! I just ran into one issue. The screen does not stay on continuously and switches of after about a minute. Did anyone else run into this problem? I tried this on a Samsung galaxy note9! Thnx!
i'd imagine it's something to do with your phone's power saving settings, worth having a play with those!
I found it! It was actually a display setting on my canon m50. Thnx for the support!
Hi, I'm trying this with a note 9 but it's not working. Is there something specific I need to do? Which app are you using? Thanks!
This is a MUCH CHEAPER way to have a portable monitor for my crypto mining rig.
Thank you!
My monitor will take a while to get replaced, till then can I use this method to use my phone as my monitor for my PC, as parents are for not allowing me to flag my PC to the TV?
Tried it with my phone, a Samsung a54 and my tablet, a Samsung tab s6 lite. Both did not work. Are they usb 2.0 and is usb 3.0 required.
Thank you so much 😁❤️❤️❤️❤️
The next step would be to use the smartphone as a recorder in the same quality as a Ninja V, for example.
Perhaps Filmic Pro can use an OTG connected camera - would be perfect if they did.
EDIT: the OTG app asks permissions to record,....
I have a Canon 70D and a Samsung Galaxy S22+ and cannot find the right app to work. I have the cables but no dice. Any help would be appreciated
I tried something similar with hdmi to hdmi cable + video capture + lightning to usb 3 camera adapter, i tried to connect my Canon r7 with iphone 12 pro, but it showed error that accessory such a usb 3 adapter need more power, so i plugged in charger and it doesnt show error anymore, but still doesnt show view from camera, i used blackmagic camera and CamX app, aby ideas ? Maybe iphone 12 pro is too old?
Thanks video please not very clear can you give link for REC in my samsung phone from camera in hdmi with Android platform best application for REC
Have you found a way to keep the phone charging during this setup? I've I've found a way for my camera to be charged which is with a dummy battery
Can I stream a football game using this technique using my data from my phone live streaming threw Facebook?
My camera only has a CB-VC1 to NTSC Video Out can you show me how use my phone with that? HURRR
If this works, its a perfect server monitor for when you have issues with your server :-) !!!
Yeah i was thinking that too. I've previously carried a car reversing camera monitor and VGA to AV converter - never mind the quality, just smell the cheapness.
Will this mathod effect the Croma sampling and bit depth of video?
My cameras micro hdmi port is broken . Do you think this will work with the cameras micro usb port? I have a canon m50
Hello all... the name of the APP is now "Endoscope Camera", by Novotech Industries, and of course, its still free.
HALF THE DAMN STEPS ARE MISSING plus YOU NEED TO SEARCH FOR THE SPECIFIC ENDOSCOPE CAMERA.....VERY CONFUSING
I have a conon 80d cam I cont hdmi in my cam camera display is off please salushun
Does it work only with HDMI? can it
connect with OTG adapter on phone and Micro usb port from camera?
I tried using a micro hdmi for the setup on Panasonic G7 and Huawei Nova 2i and it works!
I bought everything in the video except one detail - I noticed the Capture card i purchased is a USB 3.0. I am using a Note 20 Ultra and I am having issues with the phone recognizing the Video Camera. Not sure where I'm going wrong.
My camera lcd doesn't turn on, can I use this as an external monitor to replace my inbuilt LCD.
I did all these but I still can't use it. I get the message 'Offline' and checked all the cables connected properly. Anything I'm doing wrong? Pls help
my camera does not have an hdmi of sny sort, what should i do?, I only have a mini usb a round video out and a smaller round thing in the middle, I am using an older canon rebel xs
Can someone give me information? At what quality can I record with this method? FULLHD?
I must be stupid... I cant work out the csbles, what I need, etc. Ordered the hdmi cable to my camera but it doesnt fit the capture card. What am I doing wrong?
What?
Just managed to get my Tab S6 to act as monitor for my Xperia 1 V.
Thanks mister!
Im doing something wrong. My HDMI cable wont fit into the capture card! What am I doing wrong?
Does anybody know where can I get the piece that connects the Phone Clamp to the Top Handle. Thanks in advance
Cannot get this to work with my Samsung with Android 10 irrespective of which api install.
This worked PERFECTLY today with my Sony ZV-E10 and my Galaxy S23+ using an Elgato Cam Link USB stick to display the video out right on to my phone. The app that you show in the video doesn't seem to exist any more, but I just grabbed another USB video display app from the Play Store. We did a video shoot last week and I was so frustrated I couldn't tell what was in focus and what wasn't. This will solve that so fast! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Hi, did you notice if there's any lag in the signal?
Yo dude this vid is great. Question tho... Can i do this with ps4? Coz i want to record ps4 games in phone. Without pc. So any advice??? Tia
I think it'll work, I don't have Ps4 so can't test it
How about iPhone? Can it be an external monitor?Ex iPhone 6
tryed that app full of ads not good at all going to need one that dose not have ads
Endoscope HD worked for me but when I recorded the output was sped up, perhaps a ntsc/pal issue. I have yet to investigate the file off my phone.
interesting, i didn't experiment much with the recording. What camera were you recording from?
It’s not working i have usb -c to Hdmi , maybe it’s the problem ?
