Weird. Your looks pretty impressive. But I actually just purchased one of these exact devices and the resolution is horrible. I'm getting jagged lines around my shoulders it is so bad. I've also tried video capture programs such as VLC & OBS both gave the same result. Any suggestions?
The first thing I would try is an alternate HDMI source like a laptop, game system, streaming device, etc., and make sure it isn't the capture device that is defective.
@@ThriftyAV I put the grabber with the same cam and cable on my laptop and got the same result, I did watch some other videos on youtube and apparently if you get a test screen that means the grabber is working but I'm not sure, I'm not a technician :-/ if I connect my laptop to the grabber does that even work, I thought a USB socket on a laptop was a input socket only and not a output 0.o sadly I have on other devices.

Is it possible to record streaming in a DVD recorder with this device? Thank you!
I have this exact capture card and it works great!
For some reason in OBS i do get lag that builds up over time, but when i use it on Discord directly there's no lag at all, not entirely sure what is it
Are you able to get audio through the camera app? that way I'm not recording in game silence lol please, and thank you for the help!
Through most HDMI devices, I am getting audio through the camera app.
when I have the capture card plugged in I and open camera I dont see anything just me im using switch by the way!
same bruh I only see that color thing. Do you already have a solution?
I just bought a type-c to HDMI cable is it gonna work if i also use this to mirror my phone screen on SmartTV
The product reviewed in this video is for capturing HDMI to a PC or Mac. Your phone must offer Thunderbolt 3 in order to mirror to a TV with the cable you purchased.
Hallo, I bought the same capture card, but it doesn't give anything audio. Any update for solution? (I'm using it with HDMI from my PC with a HDMI splitter.)
Have you tried different sources? I wasn't getting audio with my action cam, but I got audio just fine with my DVD player, Panasonic camcorder, and Atari Flashback. Another thing to check is the software settings on your computer to make sure the audio source is the capture device. If none of this fixes your problem, I would return the capture device.
Here's what i did to hear my usb hdmi capture card sound in windows 10:
- go to speaker/volume icon in the far right of task bar
- right click
- sounds
- recording tab
- scroll to bottom
- left click on digital audio interface
(USB digital audio)
- properties
- listen tab
- tick "listen to device"
- Look at "playback through this device" : now choose your main speakers or headphones
- click ok
- thank me later (optional)
Note: you can change capture sound volume via windows "sound mixer options"
Just type in the start search bar.

Thank you Aman Cars!!! Just worked simply as explained by you!
If you guys are interested just make your Snes mini or any of these hdmi console portable with your laptop, this is the solution! The capture card and the camera app, no OBS or other software necessary.
I need transfer 8gb movie who i just captured from my pc to usb.
Was capture from vcr through
HONECTECH VHS TO DVD 3.0 SE
My usb have 32gb space but when i start copying from pc to usb"not enough space"msg are display..even usb have 32gb or movie who i need transfer in usb have just 8GB.. Pls help why ths happened
Your usb stick is probably formatted as FAT32, which has a file size limit of 4GB. Reformat the stick as either NTFS or exFAT. Make sure any files already on the stick are backed up elsewhere, as formatting will remove all files from the device.
Oh yessss sir..you are a great.i just done as per yours instructions.
God bless you.love u sir
Hi ThriftyAV great video keep them coming :)
When I try to connect it with iphone to stream pubg on obs it gives me color bar and I don’t why ??? Can you please help me ?
same problem but with my wii U i only see those f*cking color bars, do you already have a solution?
Hey can I connect Android TV Box with my laptop with this to use the laptop monitor like monnitor for the Android ?
This device is not for extending or cloning displays. It is strictly for HDMI video capture.
how do you fix the audio on this HDMI video capture?
Someone here mentioned that the capture has a separate audio source that Thrifty AV wasn't using ^^
Did u used a composite converter to hdmi?
I was wondering whether i can record my computer screen with it if it does this thing's gonna be a banger
You don't need any hardware to do that, there's a variety of free software to do that.
I can only get the device to record in mono and only gets two one channel options in the Sound Control Panel . any advice (Thanks) ?
Can this HDMI device capture what is playing (audio and video) on a Blu-ray DVD player with an HDMI output?
Other reviewers have said that it does. I would test it myself, but I currently have no power.
Hi. I have bought the capture card. I have good sound but bad picture shake. Any advice would be great.
When I open windows camera ap it uses the laptop built in camera. Same on vlc. How do I get it to use the USB device instead?
support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to-use-the-camera-app-ea40b69f-be6a-840e-9c8c-1fd6eea97c22
You can also disable the device you do not want to use in device manager, and it will then default to your desired device.
@@ThriftyAV I found a way. In camera app, upper right is that thing like phones have , a setting to use forward camera or another. This switches to the USB hdmi.
In vlc, open video capture device and on the right pick video device name and choose usb one. If you don't do the same for audio right under it, no audio.
Vlc seems to not show the video quality as well for me unless I need to play with settings.
Good video -however you should of included what software you used to record the footage on your computer
Does this work as a HDMI to USB adapter?
Hi,
can i use this capture card to connect set-top box (hdmi) to plasma tv (usb)?
will it supply audio to tv as well is above setup?
regards,
No, the TV won't have drivers for such a device.
Hi, i've been using this for my church live streams and works like a charm, but now i need to run my camera from the audio booth all the way to the platform (around 65ft). what can i use that won't loose signal? will a fiber optic hdmi do?
Could you answer a question on the audio for me. If I used the HDMI output of a Roku or FireTV would I have audio? Can this device and its its software create a private Internet Stream viewable from anywhere in the World on the Internet and if so can more that 1 person connect to it. I do not want to upload to youtube, facebook, etc. Thanks
4:45 I had it hooked up to a Roku via HDMI and had audio. No software came with this device, but you can set up a stream using 3rd party software, just like a webcam.
@@ThriftyAV Could you give me an example of 3rd Party software that would work with this.
I want to stream the output of my FireTV for remote over the internet viewing. This remote internet connection has to be a private connection using a browser to connect to from anywhere in the world via internet.
Also maybe a few links to this known device on Amazon. I noticed many some USB 2.0 and 3.0 and it would be hard to tell if it would work as well as the specific one you are tested. Thanks
@@n1kkri OBS Studio is popular and FREE. There are numerous videos from other channels explaining how to set up OBS for streaming.
I didn't see any connections from your laptop to your camcorder,,, what are they?
Panasonic HC-V770 Camcorder has a micro-HDMI output. I used a cable that is micro-HDMI on the camcorder side, and full size HDMI on the capture side.
Hello...This device can handel only 30fps, What if my video is 1080/50i, Does it give smooth video or will it be jerky ?
Will this work on directv box?
Does it work under Linux?
Hi! Can I use this to use my canon powershot camera as a webcam?
My old PowerShot A630 does not have an HDMI output. If your PowerShot has HDMI output, it should work as a webcam, if not, it will not work as a webcam with this device.
Hey, i have a system with DVI output. Can i use a DVI to HDMI cable to record the output? Thanks!
Yes, but only for video, as DVI doesn't carry audio.
I tried using this for some of my gaming consoles. It looks good in obs but when I record the capture and then play it back it's very choppy
Then it's most likely your capture settings, which are presumably either too low, or use a different framerate than the source video.
@@DoubleMonoLR It was my old PC it couldn't handle it and it didn't have a graphics card but thanks
Weird. Your looks pretty impressive. But I actually just purchased one of these exact devices and the resolution is horrible. I'm getting jagged lines around my shoulders it is so bad. Like it's in no way 1080p. And further more it is actually cropping a good 20 percent off the sides of my frame and stretching it out to 16:9 rather than showing the full frame.
Hi Thrifty, I have a problem and maybe you have the answer and as is: I have a Panasonic HC V 180 which I want to use as a Video capture source. I bought a "cheap" video grabber, connected it to the computer (and the camera of course :-D) but I only get a test screen (color bars) as seen at 2:10.
@@zarazane2787 Do you have any other devices other than the HC-V180 with HDMI output? Most modern laptops have HDMI output for hooking up a 2nd monitor, so maybe yours does.
@@ThriftyAV O.Ops yes my TV has HDMI thx for reminding me :-D
@@zarazane2787 TV Sets have HDMI inputs, not outputs. However, you may be able to troubleshoot if the problem is your camera and/or cable by hooking it directly to the TV instead of the capture device.
Hello! Hope you can help. Instead of plugging it to a laptop or PC, could I plug in to TV? does it work the same? (LG TV that has USB entrance, 2.0) Sorry, I am new to this.
I would not expect this to work on a TV set. The box says it is compatible with Windows and Mac.
When you plug everything in does it just pop up by itself in the camera app?
Yes. Driver loaded up automatically when I plugged it in. You can then launch the camera app, and it comes up as video source by default.
@@ThriftyAV thank you
how do you have sound bc i dont
That was a interesting and captivating video. GR8T varity of hardware tested. Cheers
Could i use this "HDMI Video Capture" to record PS3 gaming on TV ?
short answer Yes,
long answer is Yes but there will be input lag in the preview window, you would be better off looking for the HDMI passthrough version that's a little more expensive
What software you have installed and used to capture hdmi in to usb... recording... is it OBS screen recording and streaming software?
Is it any different from HDMI(female) to USB cable?
Can this be used to record the output of a cable box that has HDMI?
I do not have a cable box to test, but every HDMI source I've tested so far works.
@@ThriftyAV Thanks!
i just got my card no matter what i do the output resolution looks like 360p. input 1080p output is set to 1080p and color looks bad too
Does the HDMI Capture device get hot? I don’t need audio as I’ll be using professional mic setup... Thanks
No, it barely gets warm. Someone else on UA-cam did a torture test where then streamed with it for several days, and it worked fine the whole time.
ThriftyAV Thanks for answering so promptly. Gonna order a couple before they hike the $$$ up. Subbed and liked. Hello from Scotland...
Thanks! I got HDV sony camera that had broken DV tape deck, but it also had HDMI output, and i needed some HDMI capture that wont cost as much as new camera
I'm glad I can help. I ordered this almost a month ago. I hope it is still available at a reasonable price.
@@ThriftyAV i hope
