Time for a new Slipknot reaction for Maggot Monday! Most of my comments center around the cello. And now I'm not sure if there even is a cello. My God, I hope there's a cello. :D Thanks for watching!
Whether or not there's a cello, Circle has secured a spot in the top 15. It's probably farther down there than you'd expect though.
    1) Snuff the Magic Corey (if this is ever missing from this spot, assume someone has hacked into my UA-cam channel bc that's the only way it would not be here.)
    2) Nero Freaking Forte (same for this one!)
    3) Vermilion Pt. Obsession
    4) Sympathy for the Devil in I
    5) The Greatest Conclusion
    6) Colin Firth is Pissed
    7) Malice!
    8) Little Orphan Annie Taylor
    9) Vermilion Pt. OG
    10) You Can't Always Get Unsainted
    11) The 666 Anthem
    12) The Drum Solo Exists
    13) Fire + Caffeine + Nicotine = -1
    14) Cello?
    15) The Collector

Fun fact: The first verse of this song was recorded during the Iowa cycle when Corey was a severe alcoholic, and the second verse was recorded when he became sober and had a new lease on life.

Circle and Vermilion2 were the very first Slipknot melodic kinda acoustic songs, yet Corey did Bother, before, with Stone Sour..Between Iowa album and SS debut album….. At the time it was like ‘oh he/they’re now going this way hun..?’ Yeah, a completely different approach on Slipknot ‘heaviness’….

@@MusicCatsandCoffee 1999 Slipknot ‘first’ album/2001 Iowa/2002 Stone Sour debut album with Bother, included on Spider-Man OST, then Get Inside. Yes, that’s the Slipknot guys with no masks on 😱… (Corey and The Phantom on Stone Sour) :)
Then, on 2003 SS live shows, Corey was already doing high pitched screams that he kept on Slipknot Vol.3 and SS Come Whatever May…. until 2007. Then, thank God, he returned to the lows in 2008 with All Hope Is Gone.. Snuff, Circle etc were no longer ‘surprise-surprise’!

This whole album was like "OMG" back in the day. The very first song, Prelude, is very melodic and i remember think "is this slipknot??". Big difference, especially coming after Iowa which is the heaviest of them to date. It's funny because I only learned to really appreciate this album when I got a little older.
The end, i don't know XD I appreciate Joey's drums mixed with some PinSid
My favorite melodic song is snuff, it can't be any other.

I've been listening to slipknot since their self titled album. When this album came out I was amazed. This was everything and more that I had hoped slipknot could be. It got me into writing poetry and lyrics of my own which really shaped a huge part of my teen years. I love the aesthetic of the album, It's lyrics, The whole crazy ghost stories from their time recording it in the mansion and everything else. It's by far my favourite album.

I'm pretty sure Vol. 3 was the first album with an acoustic guitar AND without swear words (bitch doesn't count, lol). There was kind of a backlash with the direction on this record. It was known as a heavier Stone Sour record amongst me and the maggots I hung with. I have to give a shit ton of credit here though, this album has GROWN on me so much. It's genius really...

I think someone already covered the timeline for you, but yeah, I knew Corey could do this because of "Bother". However, I just figured that type of sound would be saved for Stone Sour. Then I heard the album that song came from and thought, "Well, that was mostly heavy... weird.". By the time I got Vol 3, I heard Vermillion Pt. 2 which is pretty damn chill (maybe not the lyrics), so I wasn't too surprised when I heard "Circle". With all that said, "Circle" is probably my favorite chill/melodic Slipknot song, even above Vermillion Pt. 2. I'm not sure what it is, but I think the placement on the album is part of it, the lyrics, and the layers. Good stuff. I'm glad you liked it.

Volume 3 is also my favorite! You should check out “scream” it’s a bonus track off of this album… it’s got a bit of screaming but also very melodic. The other albums don’t have anything like this… maybe “Wait and Bleed” and “My Plague” have some melodic elements but still pretty heavy. You should react to the rest of Volume 3 so then you can listen to the album from start to finish! Happy Maggot Monday!!

Self titled album and Iowa fell in that Nu metal era, and those two are the albums that gave slipknot a huge push as a metal band, people loved the angry/rage/heavy music that they were putting out. But vol 3 is when they got into this alternative metal genre, mixing genres that don't normally go with metal songs. There were a lot of people who didn't quite like this cause it was not something they were used to listening from a band like slipknot. I am relatively very late to Slipknot, i am someone who listens to a lot of genres, so to me this alternative metal feels like a great change.

  • @everyonelovesmajima

This is definitely one of their absolute heaviest songs for me. Every time they put out a new album it's just exactly whatever I'm feeling at the time, every one. And that's the thing I think is amazing about them, they're kind of whatever you want them to be. Like, someone's saying all these things you always wanted to say but couldn't, you know? This was a suuuuuuuuuuper ballsy album for them to create after Iowa. I'd probably get beaten by a lot of metalheads for comparing them to Slayer but Slayer put out an album that was so crazy and heavy they knew they could never top it so they didn't even try to and their next one was purposely really slow. That's totally what Slipknot was doing, but not only that, they took it wildly in the other direction, "because fuck you, that's why." You can't recreate Iowa ever and if they tried to it would be phony, and they definitely wouldn't have become what they did and started winning freaking Grammys.

I might be alone, but as a depressed/angry/angsty/anxiety filled teen when their first two albums came out, when Vol. 3 came out, I was super pissed. It was such a departure from the Slipknot sound that it felt like they were trying to get more radio play. And as a (then) 19 year old, I was pissed.
Years later, it is still by far my least liked album, but I can appreciate it more now.
FYI, I love accoustic music; just not from them, if that makes sense. Also, no. Their first two albums have nothing that sounds like this. I guess wait & Bleed and Left Behind would be the closest to "melodic, radio friendly" songs.

So, Gently is about as close to a slow song as they got in Iowa, and even then it doesn't stay slow. Vol 3 was the first real taste of Slowknot.
As far as 133 Pinhead in this song, it's songs like Snuff, Devil In I, Circle, and Danger where people who criticize him for being a "useless" part of the band are wrong. His keyboards can be essential to a song, without him Solway Firth's bridge at the near end doesn't feel as creepy or melodious without the keys. Vermilion doesn't get those cool notes at the start and throughout. Craig is essential, and Circle is a perfect example of that.
