I thrifted this Mid Century Modern bar cabinet in my last “Thrift with Me” video and now it’s getting a makeover. I wanted to fix up the damage and give it a fresh new finish without compromising on the beautiful MCM design. Things didn’t go exactly how I’d planned but I’m pretty happy with the final outcome.

    From : The Discarded
I had seen the fun ... the parties
Mad Men and the ladies... the Jazz and the Blues
Then all I saw was black -- darkness and dust
The attic door cracked open and She poked in
She dragged me down and the chill air felt good as my eyes saw the light
She worked for days but happy was not coming
Tears flowed through broken glass and hours of rub , buff , scrape , and paint
Again the music came -- gossip flowed
She circled the room with drink in hand as the Mad Men laughed
She winked at me and all knew she had got it right

Great job with this piece - love it! It looks like you got a 'free' anger management class when you got to pick up that hammer and smash the glass! I hope that was as satisfying to do as I imagine it was. I would want this piece for my own home.

To eliminate the smell of your paint, pour a small bottle of Vanella in it. It does not affect the paint. It only gets rid of that awful smell. Been doing this for years! Works every time:)

I really like that color for that cabinet. My stomach just clenched up when you said you broke the glass. How frustrating that must have been! I think the MDF doors are a perfect solution. A lot of cabinets from that period had MDF or wood panel doors so these look great. The wood base looks beautiful.🌸

Good job and I like the new doors. I would have preferred that you only painted the doors and left the rest wood. Such pretty grain and you covered it up with paint. That would have been truer to it's mid century modern origin.

I appreciate your skills & the way you coped with the missing glass. But I was hoping there would be more wood grain showing on this piece, like on the top surfaces, since it was solid wood & the base turned out beautifully. Everyone has their own approach & style preference, I respect that.

It’s very pretty. A good colour choice. It’s a shame about the glass. I’d suggest if you get something with the glass sliders in future that you remove the knobs while upcycling. A small wooden dowel can be put in an out the hole while working on it to slide along.
