Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
I’ve seen that a few times. I was leery of the moisture ruining the freshly painted finish so I decided to skip that step. It ended up laying very flat on it own and I was able to get some good tension with my staples. If I ever do a larger panel I’ll definitely try the soaking method out. ❤️❤️
I appreciate that this video does not have all that typical youtube over excited talking and is peaceful and just goes straight to the point. Thank you for that. Also, your skills and how you did everything so professionally is very inspiring. I'm happily becoming a new subscriber! :)
Ditto about the peaceful, to-the-point approach!! But, going forward, could you also slightly turn down the volume on the accompanying music? Your work is AWEsome & very inspiring!!! Your presentation and the work, itself, very professional. Thank you for sharing what you do.
Even this is an earlier vid, but you have vision, follow through, a calm explanation, and you showed us your errors and what to do. I really appreciate your transparency. All of us go through this sometimes, but not all of us are willing to show it. Keep up the good work! HUGS!
It is such a relief to find things go awry for someone else and its not just me! But I take a break from those pieces and go back later, telling them that "I always win" 😆 Thanks for being real.
I felt your deception and I loved your attitude towards the problem solving. I feel it's not always easy to live with our art not being perfectly perfect and fighting this sometimes doesn't help. I love how you said : This is not perfect, BUT I have tried new things and learnt something in the process. In the end, I feel that this is what makes us evolve as artists (and humans). Love the color, and the webbing. Adding those half holes in the drawers, just really elevates this piece. Gives it a more simplistic and elegant design. Beautiful job, as always. Great video too😊😊❤
Your determination is a wonderful trait of a strong character, Katie. Thank you for sharing and ensuring that others will know how to correct a similar issue.
Thank you for sharing, a superb idea and turned out v nice. It is greta that we have people like you who are using elbow grease and not letting things go to junk
Some mistakes are supposed to be lived trough, with all the pain, to profit from the knowledge greatly💪🏻 well done, once again👍🏻✌🏻I like that you don’t hesitate to sand it off and start again❤️
Always excited when you use dark colors, especially black and deep greens. (Guess I'm just tired of white-everything right now.) Nice piece and, as a small-apartment dweller, I really appreciate the scale. Thanks, Katie!
I'm actually doing a similar reno on a dresser. I'm turning a traditional into mid-century...As I told a friend "don't be afraid 😨 of mistakes because they, as you said, improve our skills. You recovered from your missteps and that's what important.
I live in a huge apt in the city, people always leave furniture. I have gotten so many beautiful pieces that I flipped THANK YOU for this video def going to try the cane! BEAUTIFUL def subbing🥰 My son is usually mortified when I get him to help me pick up pieces on the side of the curb but I have a vision 😍
I would have loved to do all 4 drawers with the cane but my piece was just too small. Maybe if I can find a cost effective supplier I’ll do another one in the future 😉 Thank you for watching!
a friend who worked in furniture factories on East Coast told us they use special paints that resemble porch paint available to us. may be worth a try on something. another friend in Mexico uses car paint. looked fabulous on kitchen cabinets done in white. in a decor book whey show a hall table done in car paint. stunning.........meant to say porch floor paint.
I like how professional you are about your finishing Unlike some other flippers I always think if you want top dollar the finish has to be good Well done nice work and educational
Sending Katie Kudos for your perseverance to ‘finish’ the job!!! You’re videos are fantastic, Katie! Thank you for creating enjoyable, logical, beautiful up-cycled projects for us to learn from. YOU ROCK, KATIE! PS: Now I know why you wear your hair in a bun! :)
From watching at least 20 of your videos bye now I lead off with the thumbs up. Already know that I'm going to enjoy them. Just know that you have a 45 year old married Man that work fulltime & runs a lawn service watchin you & learning!! Best believe I'm taking notes because come this off Season I'm going to try at least 2 flips. I need a way to decompress & I want to help reduce our Global waste imprint. Furniture takes up a lot of room in landfills. Hoping all is well Katie, Dirty Jersey out!!
Hi Katie...I like what you did to this little dresser, the cane, the half moon pulls, all great ideas, too bad it gave you a hard time...I hope it sells quickly for you...Take care...stay safe...
Thank you for showing what went wrong. It really helps us furniture artists learn what to do should we experience the same thing. Beautiful dresser! You are amazing!!!!!!
Looks great! Tip for cutting a straight line with a jigsaw is clamp down a straight edge or long ruler on the piece so the saw’s base plate rides against it the correct distance away so the blade is on the cut line. That way you have a guide to follow against and the cut will be straight.
I like the result and I admire you for doing this work, saving furniture from the landfill. You have inspired me to change hardware on a pair of old night stands, a big step for me!
Well, every artist struggles sometimes, than you put it away, sleep over, you learn the best by your own fault’s! I never have a problem with constructive critics. It turn out just fine, as always👍🏻
So many little tricks n skills are learned with each accomplished piece. For a tatty throw out....it looks good for many more years to come. Well done.
I just finished an old old cabinet (100 years old) redo..... 🤪😝😜 You are so right in this business you just have to keep going. And your finish product is amazing! Great job!!!! ❤
I sure admire you for showing us the problems you encountered with this project and the paint color specifically. Your realistic vlog is one of the best in furniture recycle. Great job and beautiful piece!
Katie, I SO appreciate your honesty in showing both the easy, successful part of furniture re-making, and also the challenges. I usually have at least one major snafu in every project, but sometimes the pivot is better than the original plan, and it always teaches me something new about doing this. Good on you!
So cool!!! I appreciate the extra effort. I am not a #woodworker either though I enjoy flipping items for my art studio and recently a dingy vintage Vermont dresser for my wardrobe. It took over a month to complete the refurbishing and a month for the top coat to off gas but I'm using the dresser and I'm in awe that I didn't trash the project along the way! I read on a woodworking forum, on one of the many times I was researching for the dresser project, something along the lines of "The difference between woodworking and firewood is patience" that stuck with me!!!
I'm not a hard-core DIYer like a lot of your followers. I just love watching makeovers. Thank you for not making it all look more simple than it is, and telling us which step could probably be skipped. Glad you showed up in my feed.
Hi Katie! I absolutely love your videos and it’s great that you include your mistakes and your processes to fix them! I just wanted to add a quick tip, if you put the hole saw in reverse first, you give yourself a little groove and then put it in forward (?) it makes the cut cleaner with less kickback .
Oh, Katie, I love this! (*really* glad you didn't just give up and put it back out on the street) The finger-pulls-rather-than-handles idea was genius, and the black with rattan is beautiful. Very nice work!
I just finished a classic navy piece and ran into the same problem with my finish -- I was so encouraged to see 1) that I wasn't alone, and 2) how to fix the issue. Thank you!
I didn't have problem with top coat but my furniture did fight back. I had a problem with tannins coming through. I had two primer coats of Zinsser and 3 coats of chalk paint. I kept finding tiny spots! Had to sand and gave them a shot of shellac. I felt your pain, I to thought I was done. Love you piece. I truly love watching your videos and learning from you. Thank you.
I love the colour of this piece. A little tip for getting straight lines with your jigsaw, invest in a couple of clamps and clamp a straight edge to the piece so you can run the plate of the jigsaw along the edge of the straight edge. I hate jigsaws and circular saws but this makes using them and getting a good result much easier :-)
I've never had a problem with a topcoat over black but I did have a horror show on a custom birdhouse we made. It was a huge birdhouse they wanted in a Rutgers theme. I painted a large silver sword across the top to underscore the family's name, and a knight under it with the logo. It was hours of hand painting. We always sprayed an oil based topcoat on top of all the art, so when it was done I took it to the yard. I started the spray off the piece but as I swung onto the piece it clogged. So I pushed down harder on the button and BLECH huge blobs of poly shot out all over that gorgeous sword and the knight. Immediately the paint started to run and I watched all the hours of work just slide down the front of my piece. I had to wait for it to dry (that part killed me!!) then sand it all down to paint again. I literally cried. Now whenever I spray a piece I repeat "light coats! Light coats!" But that final poly stage always freaks me out now 😜
Hey Katie! I’m the one that messaged you on IG for advice. Thanks for showing us the other side of this business, it makes me feel like I’m not alone. Beautiful makeover by the way 🤗

You did a great job. For that paint "mistake" I probably would have just alternated the drawers to make it look like a purposeful pattern. But sometimes drawers have a certain spot in the carcass that they fit in, so maybe that wouldn't have worked. If you don't already have one, you should get yourself an oscillating tool. That gives you so many options with very fine control, it's a saw, it's scissors, it's a sander, it's a grinder. It's one of my very favorite tools and I have A LOT of tools. Harbor Freight has some inexpensive ones to try, otherwise, Rockwell makes a great heavy duty plug in version, and I also have a Milwaukee cordless version. They're so versatile.

The best teachers acknowledge their mistakes and demonstrate how they fix them. Nice job.
For your cane, try soaking it in water first, then staple to piece. Once it dries, it will tighten up to give you a nice taunt look.
I’ve seen that a few times. I was leery of the moisture ruining the freshly painted finish so I decided to skip that step. It ended up laying very flat on it own and I was able to get some good tension with my staples. If I ever do a larger panel I’ll definitely try the soaking method out. ❤️❤️
I work with cane all the time, I agree you have soak it first to get the tight finish.
@@melissasubatch1324 for this purpose it doesn’t require a super taught finish and the wet cane would have damaged my paint finish.
@@salvagedbykscott I wondered about the moisture factor on the newly painted piece 👍
