As soon as I saw the Pisces dresser on anthroplogie.com I knew I had to try and recreate it. This $25 thrifted MCM dresser was the perfect frame for this fun fish-scaled design.

Holly Molly, I love your interpretation more then the original. A little fish scale goes a long way. You never fail to impress!
Holly molly? 😆
Love your design choices when reinventing furniture. This one would look great in a lake house.
Wow, Genius! What a great idea. You really showed your skills and the possibilities of a Cricut. Amazing work and you got my mind thinking about all the possibilities of that machine!
It can do so many amazing things!
I was just thinking could I use my maker on flipping furniture then boom I find this video this look amazing! Thanks !
You always go the extra mile on your pieces and they look amazing! Happy Birthday Katie! I hope you have a great weekend and a blessed year. 💖💖💖
Thank you
It’s important to mention that I’m a Pisces. I absolutely love this, I actually like your version better than the original because I too prefer a touch of interest with a more classic look. I love how easy and attainable you make things seem!! You’re a great teacher!!! ❤️❤️
This is GENIUS! I need to try something like this 😍
You used the term cc when referring to liquids. There’s a term I haven’t heard since my student nurse days. 😄 This was a great project. Well done. Brilliant idea of using the cricut machine. It wouldn’t have occurred to me.
Cricuts are amazing. I agree doing all the drawers in the fish scale would have been over the top. One drawer was enough. Beautiful job.
That top handle was a great choice - it showcases the design of the drawer and compliments the other knobs well. Nice job Katie.
Woah! That's lovely!! And I read that it's your birthday, so many happy returns (especially returns on all the good you're doing for others!). Best wishes, k
Thank you so much
Great job! I did not know that the Cricket could cut veneer. Really beautiful job!
I learned a lot about Cricut . I didn’t know you could use wood veneer. Love it. Your design was beautiful
It cuts leather too! So versatile.
You do great work! Be nice to your animals!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE 🎂🍷🎉🎈🎁 Hope you're having a great day and will continue to. Love the way you finished this piece. It's gorgeous!
Thank you 😊
Fantastic!!!! Beautiful..love all of ur work katie🥰🥰
This looks amazing. You’ve outdone yourself!
This piece turned out amazing Katie !! I've never see a piece like this before. If the scales were over the entire front of the dresser, I think it would have been too much. Thanks for a great video !!
Ok, that was A-MAZING!! I knew the Cricut could do some cool stuff but I had no idea all of the possibilities! Love your version more too. Thinking this might have to be my next investment (just bought my Surf Prep 3x4 Electric Ray and it should be here next week!).
Christina Muscari let us know that it is your birthday, so... Happy Birthday 🎂🎁🎈🎉 Haven't watched your video yet but I am so so so pumped to watch it, it turned out beautifully!!!
Gorgeous. You just keep getting better and more creative. In awe of your talent and growth as an artist. Bravo.
You are really an artist!! That looked amazing!!! New suscriber here watching all your videos!!
Oh my gosh!! The hubs looked and said, "Cricut will cut that stuff too"? ...so maybe I'll get one yet :) I love the design. You're truly gifted at reimagining a project. I don't know much about the properties of the glue you used but maybe a glue with a lesser moisture content would help with the warping. Also, I've heard paper crafters rave about Zip Dry because it doesn't curl or wrinkle paper or cardstock. I haven't tried it though and they say it dries very fast so they have to carefully adhere one piece at a time.
Wonderful! You set challenges for yourself and complete them beautifully. I've never used a cricket and I'm amazed what it can do, I always thought for vinyl or paper. Hmm, maybe one is in my future. Have a blessed day 🌹
WOW ! WOWZA Katie. Just Frigin BRILLIANT 👏👏 ❤️❤️❤️IT
You Never See’s to AMAZE Me 😜
love your work so much! I paint kitchen cabinets and a piece of advice on sanding latex. I have found that using about 150 grit, low speed, and high pressure will keep it from melting. You basically are trying to shed it. Just don't linger in any one area. Keep moving. Also, if you can use a shop vac for extraction it will help. Also a urethane block to clean nibs off of teh paper can help.
Happy Birthday! Christina said you two shared a birthday...
Thank you!
Hello Katie firstly fantastically done as always... I mean it. Secondly awhile back you had dropped a phrase in one of your videos saying 'perfectly imperfect". I liked that phrase so much that we coined it into my wife's tumbler making business. They're hand made & she strives to get them as perfect as possible but, you know with anything hand made that's not always the case. Sorry, got rambling for a sec. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
This turned out awesome! Great job...AGAIN! And happy belated birthday Katie!
WOW!! You are INCREDIBLE and such an inspiration. Great job!!
Are you from Canada?! Just by the look of your products I have many things from my home depot and Dollarama! Love seeing Canadian artists make it on UA-cam also :)
All things considered this turned out awesome. I would NEVER have thought to use my maker3 to cut out embellishments for a furniture flip
A little bird said today is your birthday. Happy Birthday Katie! 🎂
Lol, thank you
Wow it's like the 2 small fishes expanding to feed the thousands, this is amazing! What a cute idea using a Cricut (which I know nothing about) with stupendous result!
So beautiful!! All your work amazes me. I became a fan when I saw your vanity table with the popsicle sticks.
Beautiful! I like yours better than the original.
Happy Birthday! 🎉🎂🎈 🥳
Happy birthday Katie!! Love your creativity! Many blessings to you!
This turned out really awesome!! The only thing I would have done different is maybe used some wood filler on the top row of the scallop strips to hide where you used several pieces instead of one long piece. Love the paint color ❤️
Maybe spray adhesive for the back of the scallops.
Very nice!
I don’t think that would be a strong enough bond but I’m definitely going to play around and find the perfect adhesive!
Katie!!! I want to thank you for your inspiration. I just suscribe because you helped me so much.
Wow! Wow! You never cease to amaze me! This is so unique and beautiful. Bravo! 👏👏
What am awesome idea!!! Beautiful job Katie, it's absolutely gorgeous!
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️
I have a 100+ year old china cabinet that was my great grandmas. I want to paint it and the inside of it. It has 2 doors in front with full glass and the sides are glass. Any suggestions?? I bought a Cricut and want to print out sayings for the glass on the front of the doors. No idea what to put either....
I love this so freaking much! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hello Katie! You’re so very talented! …… it looks absolutely amazing!
This an amazing labour of love and so clever. Love the result and your channel. Thanks for sharing1
Very cool effect! What an inspiring video. I love unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
I have been priming with Bin using a brush and used a roller for the first time...so much better results!
That turned out so well. I was so tickled to learn that the Cricket was so versatile. Excellent Info. Love learning new things. Cathleen
I can’t believe you were able to pull that off! I wondered how you were going to get the scales. Fantastic! Why didn’t you use wood glue on the scales?
Wood glue dries yellow and that ain’t cute! 🤣 I knew there would be some seepage so I wanted to minimize the look of it with something clear.
You have an artists minds eye! I’m a Pisces so I loved it and I really loved more than the anthropology one, I liked the scales on just the one drawer. 😊
You've done it again! Another fantastic project!!! Love it.
I'm surprised that I love this as much as I do as fish scales aren't my thing, but maybe because you limited it to only the top drawer it adds some in interest to the piece. Happy 🎂🎉!
Thank you 😊
Wow. Beautiful! Happy Birthday! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Now that's super creative and cool! Great inspiration! Have a blessed day
Nice job Katie! I love it!
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎂
Beautiful! I like the white wash applied to the scales for definition. Anthropologie should call it The Mermaid Dresser since it looks like a mermaid’s tale. It would look lovely in a teal color.
That’s beautiful!!!!! Happy Belated Birthday Katie!!
So pretty. Putting scales on all drawers would have been too much.
Hi Katie. I just wanted to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! I heard from another birthday girl Pretty Distressed you share a birthday!! Awesome job on your piece. I love it!! You are so talented!! DDecker
Thank you 😊
I do love the dresser but perhaps pushing some wood putty between the two cracks in the top line. My eye goes right to them.
It's genius Katie! Absolutely great!!! 🙌🙌🙌💞
Gorgeous! I really like this. Outstanding!!😁
Gracias por los subtítulos en español me gusta mucho tus trabajos pero ahora aprendo más cosas
Oh My... It's really beautiful. You're a genious
I had never thought of using that " sponge" to apply topcoat. I have a piece I'm going to try that on! Great looking piece when it was finished.
Another wow piece. Would have used a larger scale knob.
I like it, Katie. I think this was a good tutorial for those of us who had never even considered using this tool. It shows how much we can stretch ourselves in this strange profession.
Happy Birthday! 🎉
Yes yes love this Katie, so beautiful 👍🏽🐝🌻☀️xx
"They aren't antiques...or super high quality designer pieces..." You have GOT to be kidding me! First of all, anything that is 50 yrs old or more IS an antique, and there is nothing as classic, beautiful, and well made as the mid-century furniture! Even the "basic" pieces that were sold without makers' marks for the average buyer were higher quality than anything that was made after the period. They have dovetailed joints, are made out of solid woods, have the most classic, simple design elements, and were made to LAST. I'm 63 yrs old and still have the dressers my parents bought when I was a baby, and when I got new furniture for my 10th birthday. My baby dresser has been used for my kids and grandkids, and is now back home with me. Both of these pieces will out last us all. I get that people have different tastes and ideas, but to take these pieces and PAINT them shows a complete lack of appreciation and taste. It makes me sick to see these gorgeous pieces "upcycled" (bastardized) with paint! It will be nearly impossible to get the paint out of the grain if you tire of it later and want to refinish it. Do your creative work on something cheaper and sell these beauties to those of us who appreciate them! MCM enthusiasts will pay good money to rescue these and/or restore them. Also, the original drawer pulls are classy and much sought after, as well.
Dear Kim,
To be classified as antique, a piece needs to be more than 100 years old. There are plenty of very well made, beautiful vintage mid century furniture pieces out in the world and this is NOT one of them. This dresser is not made from solid wood, but is laminate over particle board (which is very common for these pieces) and has wood drawers. Just because a piece of furniture was constructed in certain style, at a certain time does not make it priceless. If you don’t enjoy the process of upcycling or making over furniture you are more than welcome to that preference but perhaps you should steer clear of UA-cam channels dedicated to that exact subject.
Happy Birthday Katie!
I love this design!!!
I heard it's your birthday. Happy Birthday! Very interesting technique. Really enjoyed watching this process. Thanks and enjoy your day!
Thank you so much 😊
You are so clever…….looks great!! Love watching you!
Wow mind blowing! I love this project. ❤️
Your project is so much better than your inspiration piece! Just the right amount and it turned out beautiful.
Wow! I’m a Pisces. I love this dresser. The color is amazing too.
Awesome!!!!!!!!! 🥰 you rock everything you touch!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHY 🥂😘
🥳Happy Birthday, Katie!🎉
I have procrastinated on purchasing a Cricut because I often use a friend’s. I’ve decided it’s time to just buy one!
Thank you ❤️
Yours looks BETTER than the one from Anthropology
Cost on materials used? Beautiful. I love your aesthetic.
I love that you didnt apply the scale technique all over the dresser. It looks really upscale.
This is why I stay tuned to your channel. Your creativity and ideas are limitless. Thank you for sharing this video and beautiful piece of furniture with us.
I am using an electric paint sprayer for the first time to paint cabinets. I have thinned down the latex semi-gloss paint and it seems to work OK on samples. However, it is leaving a light alligator-look immediately after painting the doors (lying flat on a table). Any ideas what is going on? The doors have been cleaned, sanded, primed, and 1 coat of the final color applied - I put this coat on with a roller and decided I didn't like the finish. Before I sprayed, I sanded with 220 grit and it looked / felt acceptable. Any thoughts on why the spray is doing this? Too thin? I know the paint is not too thick, as I actually added more water than recommended. Thanks for any input you can offer. I LOVE your channel and eagerly await each project.
An alligator look sounds like the paint is separating. It’s probably the sheen components in the paint reacting to too much water.
I do not recommend latex paint for any surface other than walls because it creates a plasticy film that stays tacky forever and if it get damaged it will peel.
I would ask your paint store for a cabinet specific paint and don’t add more than 10% water to it (if it can be thinned at all)
That is pretty impressive!! Congratulations
Happy, happy birthday from one Katie to another! We’re both Libras, too (my birthday is the 14th.). You never disappoint with your projects!
Happy almost birthday!
She’s beautiful,,,,,love the textured top drawer
Perfect timing. Was just going to start on a walnut mcm piece. Not sure of best way
Lovely, prefer your interpretation better with one drawer only of scales!! Cricketcut is amazing.
nice! agree with your idea of one drawer as scales...fantastic job
I like yours better, Anthropologie was a little too much for me too.
beautiful. your interpretation is better. a whole front of scales is too much
Happy Birthday! Wow! It looks great.
Amazing work. Tips... Wood glue might have been better adhesive. Could have used wood filler for the top row of scales to hide joints
Wood glue dries yellow so that’s why I chose a clear glue for this project. I like the organic look of the joints but you could definitely fill them in if you didn’t.
Happy birthday Katie. This piece is gorgeous.
Very creative!! It is beautiful ‼️‼️👏👏👍🌹
First time Ihave not been impressed by you. Not a fan of this style.
I think the interpretation looks better than the original! Nice job!!
Your talent is out of this 🌎 world 😍😍😍😍. I had no idea you could do that with a cricut. Also super random but i love when you say the word out cuz your Canadian accent comes out so much. It's adorable 😍😆.
🤣🇨🇦
Happy Birthday 🎂🎈🎉🎊🎁 Katie!!!! Christina shared. 😆😆😆
Thank you
