I remembered went to their concert and shed tears when she sang Linger, it was once in a lifetime. No one will ever replace Dolores with that keening singing technique in mainstream music. Miss u always queen.

Saw them at Jones Beach in the late 1990's. An amazing experience I'll never forget. Very few bands I will ever go through the hassle to see live but Cranberries was at the top.
You mentioned the size of her guitar which is very relevant as she was a tiny lady and years of holding and playing the guitar gave her many years of back pain which she took pain relief for .Her tragic death in a hotel was a shock!! Only 46 💔 Beautiful lady Beautiful voice 😍

@@iamperplexed4695 It’s deceptive. That guitar is physically large, but most of it is a hollow resonance chamber, so it’s not like she’s playing “a guitar and a half” worth of weight. There are many guitars which have a much smaller profile but are much heavier due to them being solid or made of particular, heavier woods.
I’m guessing the trouble came because she was 5’2”, maybe 100lbs, and adopted a horrific posture when she played guitar that you never saw her do when she was just singing. In any case, she’s missed...

She had a very petite frame and the guitar was big for her size and years of performing and playing holding the guitar just took its toll .I have only ever attempted to learn classic guitar and sat down whilst doing it so I can't even imagine the weight impact it had on her . I appreciate your question though .I question everything too its important! 😊👌
@@ryanclark6402 I mean, they make 3/4 and half size guitars. I know that's a semi hollow LS from Gibson but there are no light, full sized Gibson's.
She could have taken more calcium.
Anyway... they do sound great live here in this video.
She got a little weird later in life. It was crazy when she was arrested and spent 3 weeks in a psychiatric hospital due to having too much rage on an airplane.

@@lisabolo26 she suffered from chronic depression and other ailments that lead to her suicide. That's how it was reported, obviously I didn't know her.
Her passing was a rough one for me. This band's debut album got me through a difficult time in my life. Respect forever, Ms Dolores.
So happy you gave a shout out to the drummer, every time I watch this I can't help but admire his performance, and the band is so tight, sad to think we'll never see anything like this again.

Unfortunately, Dolores died in 2019 so you can’t see The Cranberries but Bad Wolves did a remake that Dolores was going to sing with them and she approved. Give it a listen ❤️

RIP Dolores☘️ “when you’re gone” and “Ode to my family” are great tracks as well. This song was huge when it came out mainly because it shed light on the conflict and bombings in N.Ireland. Lovely band!

OMG This is my favourite band of all time ! The best band other than U2 to come out of Ireland 🇮🇪 Their first Album Everybody else is doing it so why can't we ? I played it constantly ! This was an epic song condemning violence after the Warrington bombings in 1993 .Linger and Dreams are their most well known songs but they have So many others !!.Dolores passed away on the 15th January in 2018 and she was collaborating with Bad Wolves who did an amazing cover of this song .Dolores voice just echoes in my heart ❤ Great band 👌 😊💓 Good to see the live performance. One think i love about this is that she is singing in the Irish accent still. Most British bands sing and they sound American or Canadian. Dolores sounded distinctly Irish.
She isn't British, nor is the band. They're Irish.
@@thecommenter1788 I’m aware. Hence why I mentioned her Irish accent not British. I used the Brits as a reference because I know a ton of British bands and they sing in more of an American accent. I don’t know Irish bands outside of this one so I can’t say if all Irish bands retain their accent.
@@TylerLL2112 I see. Well, is a horrible comparison. Adele sounds English when she sings. Ed Sheeran sounds Engish when he sings. James Aruther sounds English when he sings. Callum Scott sounds English when he sings.
Irish people sound Irish when they sing. British people sound British when they sing. Americans sound American when they sing. I understand what you're saying about accents, but you've clearly not heard enough Irish or British singers.
@@thecommenter1788 I guess the main thing I’m used to is British rockers. I’ve heard of the names you listed but, I’ve never heard their music. But, the singing voice of most of the British rockers I know is nothing like the accent of their speaking voice. I’m sure there are exceptions hence why I said “Most British bands” not “all British bands” I appreciate you leaving a few examples for me to listen to. Take care.

My aunt used to listen to this band all the time when we were growing up. This is one of her favorite songs to this day and we all know it by heart

Love all of their songs. I was saddened and shocked to hear of her passing.
This is about our war here in Northern Ireland. (named "The Troubles) "I grew up during this time in the heart of it, Belfast, playing in bomb sites. This was specifically about 2 boys that were blew up by the IRA in Warrington, England, to further their "cause " 🤦♀💔

She also said it was about the pain of the continual rounds of "reprisals" from BOTH sides. 1916 - the constant back and forth with nobody willing to accept the responsibility to lay down arms.

The Cranberries were part of the 90's music scene that showcased a crap ton of talented female vocalists. They, along with soloists like Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLaughlin, Natalie Merchant, Jewel, Celine Dion, Lisa Loeb, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani (of No Doubt) Aaliyah (RIP) Mariah Carey, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, and many more, were and are all ridiculously talented and very popular throughout the 90's. That's a great decade for you to explore as well as the 70's and 80's, dude!
a lot of those were on a famous all-female concert tour, called "Lilith Fair" (for those who weren't alive back then)

I am the biggest Cranberries ' fan. I had tickets to attend my first Cranberries' concert a few months before she passed away. They cancelled the concert because she was ill and had a problem in her back. I couldn't stop crying the day she passed away.

"FUN FACT": On 1.15.18, Delores O'riordan was set to reprise her iconic vocals(and add her "keening") to the Bad Wolves cover of Zombie... They wanted to do the cover to express the same sentiment Delores did and their disdain that 25 years later the issue is still relevant the world over. They wanted Delores' approval for the cover (which, legally, they did not need).... When she heard their version, she loved it and asked if she could be on it....On the day she was set to be in the studio with Bad Wolves recording her parts, she was late.... they called her hotel to check on her.... a hotel staff member found her passed away in the bathtub due to alcohol intoxication. Her death was very difficult for Tommy Vext (lead singer of Bad Wolves) and the band....So, as a tribute to Delores, they released their version and donated the proceeds to Delores' 3 children....... Would love for you to check out the tribute.... It's REALLY something you should see and they do an Amazing tribute to her in the visuals of the video.... It's beautiful and haunting as well. Pretty sure Delores would approve! Again, Bad Wolves "Zombie".... you won't regret it.

You need to do the Bad Wolves cover of this song, as well. Dolores was actually in town to record ON their version when she was found deceased in her hotel room. The band members of Bad Wolves were devastated. It is a truly beautiful rendition. RIP Dolores...you will NEVER be forgotten. That voice.....

I remember hearing this song at a music store, I was wearing my leather jacket and going through a rebellious phase at the time. This song still hits me, there will never be another great voice like hers, RIP Dolores.

It's also a very old and expensive guitar. It's a Gibson. I gave my husbands to our son in 04 after he died suddenly. His parents bought it for him when he graduated 8th grade. Italian Catholics do those things. lol. I love your reaction to this performance. Cranberries were awesome. Her guitar is a semi-hollow body guitar. They’re big guitars but the way they’re built gives it a slightly cleaner and warmer sound.
