Zombie” is a song performed by the Irish rock band The Cranberries. This song is widely considered to be one of the most famous protest songs of all time. It was written after an IRA bomb killed two children to protest the violence. 🙏

This is one of my favourite tracks ever. I was lucky enough to see it performed live and it hit me in the throat. I come from Belfast so what she is talking about is very real to me. I moved to Warrington a year after the IRA bombing that killed two young boys. It was only after Dolores O'Riordan's death that I realised that she wrote this song about that event. She was so upset by it. So yes, I have many reasons to feel personally connected to it. Even if I didn't this is a fucking powerful rock song

The song is about something called the troubles or Northern Ireland conflict which the IRA tried to end British rule in Ireland. The lead singer wrote the song as a response to 2 kids killed ages 3 and 12 that were killed in bombings carried out by the IRA. It is also is considered a major factor in the ceasefire that has lasted since 1998 in Ireland.

Delores was a truly iconic singer. Her unique sound was so clear and beautiful. Zombie is definitely their signature song, but they have so many other wonderful songs. you have already done "Dreams" but "Linger", "Ode to my family" and "When you're gone" really need to be on the playlist soon. You will fall in love with the Cranberries and they will become a staple in any playlist.

In the early to mid 90s that I remember on the news was always a conflict with the IRA someone always being killed and towns and businesses being bombed this song is a chilling anthem against that and all sensless acts of terror worldwide...as a kid I thought this video was so cool, so poweful but as am adult and mother seeing the little boys painted in gold screaming out in anguish kills me because of all the innocent lives lost and destroyed from violence, abuse, war or what have you it cuts deep! 😭

The song was written in response to the death of Johnathan Ball, aged 3, and Tim Parry, aged 12, both of whom had been killed in the 1993 Warrington bombings, when two IRA improvised explosive devices hidden in litter bins were detonated in a shopping street in Warrington, England. The two boys had gone shopping to buy Mother's Day cards on one of the town's busiest shopping streets.
Dolores O'Riordan in 2017, on writing "Zombie".
It's an anti-terrorism song. It's not a nationalist or unionist song." SDLP leader Colum Eastwood wrote that "'Zombie' is an anti-war song written after the IRA killed 2 children in Warrington", adding that criticism of nationalist violence is not an endorsement of loyalist violence, writing "Most of us opposed both".

Ireland was part of the United Kingdom in 1916, what actually happened was there was an uprising Easter 1916 launched by Irish
Republicans in an attempt to establish independence from British rule, it lasted 6 days, before The British Army gained control
approx 500 died including about 260 civilians. Sixteen of the rebel leaders were later executed by firing squad

Your description of the historical events are more accurate.
True, that the world was focused on "The Great War" and the Easter Rebellion didn't receive much press coverage, until later.
The Troubles has just been the latest installment of an ongoing conflict.
They've fought one another for centuries.
I have several Irish friends and they wouldn't walk across the street to piss on a Brit, if on fire.
That hatred runs deep and is generational.

I like you n all but when you did the trump dance thang....uhh no bro. That's a serious topic. I would NEVER DO THAT to someone in Africa who went through horrific tragedies bruv

It really bothers me when people react to this song and they didnt NOT do their research. This is NOT a feel good song. This song is about 2 young boys that died from a bomb. This is a protest song. Dude probably doesnt know what IRA stands for and that Delores is no longer with us.

Your fast-talking "Rap" style" does not fit what you are listening to. You are not open to songs that have a meaning.

The song is about The Troubles. The Britts were bombing the Irish. The IRA got cptsd. It's a very sad part of history.

Well, you over simplified that more than a bit. The IRA was a terrorist group plain and simple. This song is specifically about one of their bombing, in a crowded shopping area, on Valentines day, when all the children were out shopping with their moms. Two children were killed in the blasts. Those bombing were but two of many targeting civilians.
