    WOW! This isn't really a reaction video. It's more of an, I like to hear myself talk video.
    The main point of these REACTION videos is to watch YOU WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING IT, this means NO PAUSING OR STOPPING the video. There's a few reasons why this is important, but it's mainly because we want to see an authentic reaction to what you are watching & when you pause/stop it you're then not showing us your full reaction. Seeing your AUTHENTIC REACTION from start to finish. NO stopping, NO pausing. It's also not called an Explanation video because MOST of us KNOW what the song is about already since that's why it was suggested to you. IF you feel the need to say anything just wait until the song is over. A true authentic reaction is only possible if the person knows nothing about the song, so NO finding anything about it before you make the video & that's because if you learn anything about it BEFORE you watch it then that will impact your reaction to it. So to sum up.....
    *NO LEARNING ABOUT THE SONG BEFOREHAND.
    *NO PAUSING/STOPPING AT ALL WHILE WATCHING IT.
    *NO CONTROLLING YOUR EMOTIONS SINCE THAT WILL DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF YOUR REACTION TO IT.
    *ALWAYS SHOW YOUR AUTHENTIC REACTION TO IT, which means NO holding back your emotions, ESPECIALLY SO IN REGARDS TO SONGS that are about true events.
    But one of the biggest pet peeves that MANY of us have when watching these types of videos is the pausing/stopping of the video to talk when that should be done when the song is over.
    (FYI: IF you feel the need to reply &/or send me a message PLEASE make peace with the fact that I won't read or even see it. I just don't like doing the whole back & forth debate thing & what I really just want to do is watch more YT videos & since mean spirited/nasty comments have effected me in the past I came to the conclusion that this is what's best for ME which is to not read any of them since there's really no way of discerning between a negative or a positive without actually reading them. So to keep my head space happy this is the best way for me to do that, plus adding this statement saves people from wasting their time responding back too. TY so much for understanding).✌💕

      I'm going to pin this comment, because it highlights some extremely important points. I'll start by saying your opinion is valid, and I understand where you're coming from -- if you don't appreciate the analysis, my channel is not for you. However, this may surprise you, but if you look anywhere in the comment sections on my videos, you will see thousands and thousands of people who love the in-depth analysis, and are so happy to see someone take the time to turn the ocean of valueless, bullshit reaction videos into something interesting and educational (their words, not mine, although I do agree). UA-cam, and the world at large, does not revolve around you. My entire mission for this channel is to enhance the audience's love and appreciation of music, and I fully accept that not 100% of the viewers will be aligned with how I do it. I find your comment highly hypocritical, and selfish -- not because of what you think of this video, but because you left an entire essay's worth of nastiness in the same message that you say nasty comments have affected you badly in the past. If nothing else, I hope you see how flawed this line of thinking is -- it's quite frightening, really. Best of luck.

      Addendum: The title of my video doesn't even have the word, "reaction" -- it's rightfully named a "Vocal ANALYSIS" to avoid any confusion one might have. Unfortunately, this messaging doesn't seem to work on everyone. Be well.

      thats bs... how are you able to react and not talk over the video you are watching without pausing. and if you arent allowed to talk over the video you have to stymie your reaction. also,. if you talk over the video you are reacting too,.. you may miss something else in the video... if you just wanna listen to the song without interruption just watch the original.

    • @gilanafaye
      @gilanafaye 5 місяців тому +12

      wow. going around leaving mean spirited/nasty comments, claiming to speak on behalf of people they won't interact with because of potentially mean spirited/nasty comments. also making a show of explaining all of this, while claiming they really just want to watch more yt videos. apparently responding is a waste of time, but watching videos they don't like and then taking the time to leave nasty comments is not. maybe this is something they copy and paste onto videos they dislike to save time in spreading their negativity? make it make sense.

    Elizabeth reviewed this a couple of months ago and there were many suggestions that the flip is a traditional Irish technique called keening. It conveys grief which fits the purpose of this song.

    • @laurilewerenz5270
      @laurilewerenz5270 5 місяців тому +21

      its actually the whole song style, assembly & delivery is in keening style. Keening is the technique used for songs of lament/life remembrance to be sung at funerals where the singers were( its a dying art) almost wailing to express the grief felt by the family of the bereaved they were performing for.

  • @chrisd7047

    That yodel is called keening in Ireland. It is an ancient Gaelic style of lamentation. In Ireland it was called keening, in Scotland it was called coronach. Dolores grew up learning traditional Irish folk music and incorporated some of it in Zombie. Not surprisingly, she was a fan of The Pogues' music.

    Great analysis Peter. This song carries a lot of baggage, when you consider why and when it was written, and it means a lot to me as an Irishman, but you have added another dimension to it for me. I love her voice, but the insight into how technical a singer she was just makes it better for me.

    Merry Christmas and thanks for your reaction! The violence in Northern Ireland really escalated bad in the early 1980's when she wrote this emotional song. The flips/yodel she is using here is Irish "keening" vocal technique used to convey grief or strong emotion in a song. You hear it more often in old Irish folk songs but I noticed that Alanis Morissette frequently uses it in her songs (especially "You Oughta Know").

    This song and especially the pictures, has meaning to anyone who lived through "The Troubles". As a Brit who hit his teens as they started, the violence and hate was a background to my youth. Summed up so well in a song. Since the agreement things have been much better but BRexit has raised the spectre again.

      @@sibertiger1970 YES! Along with the slight lyric updates, the sound is phenomenal. If Dolores's version was sad and angry about the violence in N Ireland, Bad Wolves takes that anger and ramps it up to pure rage at the violence that has continued around the world and a message unheeded.

    Definitely one of most gravely serious rock songs that’s been around for awhile. Probably not a single upbeat moment in the entire composition, nor should there be, given the subject. I think it’s one of those tracks that demonstrates how deep and dark rock could be during that era of music. Makes perfect sense to me that the key is Em. Because like you said, there’s a lot of heavy shit in this song. And it needs the right key to unlock it.

    I enjoyed this, thank you. I love to learn a little about the technical aspects of a song, or performance. Discovering that there's not only elements I was wholly ignorant of, but also gain some context of the skill required to create, and cleverly apply said elements, allows an entirely new aspect of an artist, or song, that I didn't even know I was missing out on, to be appreciated and enjoyed.

      @@PeterBarber I'm sorry because a singer has to know what he's singing. Without a feeling for the song you can't put on a good performance. A singer needs to know what the song is about so that he can convey the right feelings. and therefore the person must also have some basic knowledge. Worrying only about technique is dead business, as any singing teacher or music student will tell you.
