The vocal technique she uses is a traditional Irish way called "keening".
Keening, crying weeping mourning 😢
😓❣️💯
Brilliant. Thank you for that note. Researching now. She was gifted.
Thank you :)
Lynneda Geraghty Thanks NEVER knew that til now. I love the Irish peeps. My guy's Irish. Anyway cheers chica!!
Star Sackaney
This song is specifically about 3 children who died because of a bombing by the IRA. That's what the 3 screaming children around the cross at the end represents.
however, it also uses that attack as a microcosm of the entire war, and the hate and tradition of vengance that perpetuated it.
The song was wrote after the bombing in Warrington that killed only 2 children in which she dedicated it to them but it was collectively about all sides of the fight as she talks about tanks that the British soldiers drove about in
Their names were Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry.
the songs hyped up a bit too.. this 100% politics in Ireland..
It some up all the trouble in Belfast and it still go's on today here under radar
I think you got a good take on this song without being familiar with the incredibly complicated and long history of the Ulsters and the IRA in Northern Ireland. Although Delores wrote this song after a specific incident of 3 children being killed by a random bomb, it's lyrics carry the same meaning today as they did then. Zombified brains from all the violence and destruction around you. People repeating the same mistakes over and over and passing their problems down to their children.
I think you should stop worrying about us idiots out here and what we think of what you think. I like your reactions because you give us your reaction from your point of view. Art is really subjective. Just because you don't always understand the artists' points of view, it doesn't mean your opinion is irrelevant. You can only speak on what you see and hear from your point of view. Keep doing that. You're doing great.
Dolores O'Riordan had a unique voice. RIP
Yes RIP Dolores❤️
💯❣️😓
RIP indeed! 😔
Yeah, a huge loss
I guess Shakira copy her.
this is an incredible song. the lead singer actually passed away a year or two ago and bad wolves made a cover of it as partially a memoriam.
Yep hope he does the Bad Wolves cover
The Bad Wolves cover of Zombie is definitely worth seeing and reacting to. Particularly after seeing this one. Her name is Dolores O'Riordan - their tribute to her is powerful af.
The original is way better, but I respect that the proceeds went to a charity she supported.
@@72KingDavid The proceeds also went to support her children
@@steveakhurst7845 I didn't know that. Very cool.
This is back when people wrote songs about real shit. Yes deep sweetie! Yes Goosebumps everytime!
@@KaizerHiwatari ooo yea I made a rash decision, after my daughter told me what it eas about, and I was high...puff puff pass.. I actually think the best is 60's and 70's. I know several on your list and they are good! I know Only cause my daughter likes them, and shes in control of the stereo in the car. Lmao...Shes 23 and is into mostly indie, i saw Tame Impala with her in concert. ...that was cool! Im just an old lady whose fkin around on the internet! Sorry I offended u cupcake. ♥️🙏🤗
@@KaizerHiwatari I notice there's not many after 2010 on your list. Do you have any more suggestions? I have to agree with Caroline Startt that the best, most relevant music came out between the 1960s and the early 1990s....
@@cinderellsworth After the 90’s there is very little meaning in songs. Poppy auto tune sexually explicit crap became main stream.
@@Alexandersupertramp9875 I agree 100%....nothing much since the '90s is even worth listening to so I don't. With the exception of Nightwish w/Floor Jansen.
People still do, they just aren’t super famous . People don’t seem to care about substance in music anymore imo🤷♀️.
Northern Ireland.
Loooong history of violence...!
over religion...
I lived there for 14 years, it isn't as bad as it was, but still has it's scary moments
and it still spills over into the rest of Britain too. i am Catholic and came up the stairs from Glasgow Central station and walked into a crowd at an Orange Order march. nothing like realising you are standing amongst people who would be willing to kill you. as a white american that was a true learning moment re: the racism i grew up around.
I live in Belfast on flash point h it still go's on grew up in the worst of the troubles
@@WanderingWriter Religion is an aspect of it now. But not it's root cause. You need to go much further back in history for that.
The song is specifically about the '93 bombing in Warrington in England by the IRA, a part of "The Troubles" that were still going on when the song was written (in '94).
warrington is england, i remember it happening 1 boy died on the scene 3 year old jonathon ball ... 1 of them died from injuries he was tim parry, he would have been 40 a few days ago.... very sad
Isn't it about the Omagh bomb?
Its about the ongoing conflict the bombing was the event that sparked it but it was about the whole madness.
@@c.taylorb.1612 No it's not about the Omagh bombing, it was about 2 kids killed in Warrington, England bombing over our Troubles here in Northern Ireland. I remember all this growing up in Belfast.
My sister was in a cafe above a shop called Hancock & Wood on Bridge Street, where that bomb exploded. I should have joined them but it was my first mothers day so stayed home with baby. They were evacuated out the back of the shop to Warrington Market. Very traumatic memories
Don't hold back, ever!!! just be you. If they get in bunches, that's their problem. Always stay true to you
💯💯💯💯💯❣️
Always say what's on your mind, if you're wrong, you're wrong and you learn from it.
These are the scenes of my youth - I grew up and still live in N. Ireland. The army was everywhere, machine guns were a non-remarkable thing cos they were an every day sight. Bombs & bomb scares were so common that they became almost 'normal'......our so-called 'peace' is still very fragile. Thank you for reacting to this, and R.I.P. Delores for giving us this song💔....it is part of our history and 'The Troubles'. It's message is overwhelming powerful.
The most I remember from that time period was what I saw on the news as a kid here in the U.S. and overhearing my parents talk about it. My mother's family is from Ireland and that conflict hit close to home as a child. I remember my mother telling me that we have family that lived(s) in both N Ireland and Ireland. I can't fathom what it's must've been like as a kid in N. Ireland at that time. I would have to think your strength is something to be admired.
I'm sure a million people have already said this song is about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. But, another great (hit) song about the troubles is U2-Sunday Bloody Sunday.
Classic
Great one!!!
Agree
It’s also the basic meaning behind U2’s song “where the streets have no name.” In Belfast if you were Irish Catholic you didn’t go past certain streets into the Protestant neighborhood and vice versa. He’s talking about being able to just go where you’re able to walk freely without fear of violence over something so pointless.
Dolores O'Riordan ... So amazing... "Dreams" and "Linger" are awesome... different sound... but just as amazing. You're bringing gold hit after gold hit. You're on fire, dude!
Thanks nate man I’m trying lol
@@MrVideo123 nah you past trying. Straight killin it every video of yours I watch.
Linger is so awesome
@@MrVideo123 Yo straight up make a reaction for "Linger", it's one of those songs that give me goosebumps EVERY TIME!
this video is always a hard one to watch. anything with kids gets me nowadays. she's saying they are zombies b/c they just mindlessly keep the violence going, and innocent people, especially children get killed as a result. It's about "the troubles" in Northern Ireland, specifically, but really it could be about any war.
Do a little research
She had a beautiful & Distinctive voice. This song also has a strong message!
Yeah she was special......her voice cuts to your heart ❤
Mr. Video is the best in the game.
Thanks luke man
Fax
yeah he does it right
You absolutely right. Its natural for the dude.
I totally agree! I'm a proud follower as well 🤘
1916... a reference to the Easter Rising... A far, distant relative, Thomas Ashe, led the 5th Brigade of the Irish Volunteers out of County Meath north of Dublin. He was captured and died, either or torture or hunger fasting in prison... his funeral procession is actually here on UA-cam. Don't ask me if I'm proud or not... I'm sad of the pain that people went through. We have to heal... we have to come together.
Well hello from Co. Meath!! 🇮🇪
Yes we do but A 1000 apologies won’t be enough for the evil my country’s government did to your country. Some people are proud of the British empire but not me. My grandad fought for this country in WWII and all they got a suit and a couple of quid and most likely PTSD.
@@howey935 Full disclosure, it's not my country (though it was Tom Ashe's). However the country I call home is no better. My country declared independence from the British Empire back in 1774, and despite the glorious, nationalistic mythological stories that we're taught, we act in the same, imperialistic manner. I can't fix politics... I can't justify the chess game that the ruling class play with our lives. You hit the nail on the head, with your grandad (mine, too, at the landing on Okinawa)... we, the regular people, only want to live our lives, and not have to pick up a rifle to kill someone we don't know. The poor boys that this song remembers would have been no different... I visited London, a while ago as a boy, and was confused that I couldn't visit Paddington Station, because of an IRA bombing, and the person who died and the others injured were no different, either. Here, on Christmas Eve, I wonder why we can't just all let it go... I guess I've said too much. Merry Christmas... Happy Holidays... whatever your beliefs, I wish you (and everyone) a wish of peace and comfort, for what it''s worth.
@@nateashe3140 thanks Nate and a merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your loved ones.
Speaking of touchy,
Divinyls - I touch myself
I can't wait for that reaction!! Great song!!💖
...when no1 else will... lol
I love that song.
Yessss!!!
and "It's a Fine Line Between Pleasure and Pain" and "Sleeping Beauty."
Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence, caused such silence
Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Another mother's breaking
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken
It's the same old theme
Since nineteen-sixteen
In your head, in your head, they're still fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head, they are dying
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, ay, oh, ya ya
love this song.... the line "But you see, it's not me, it's not my family" is so powerful, and still so relevant today... we're so numb to what is happening in the world because it's not happening to us directly (for the most part, anyway), and meanwhile kids are growing up seeing all this violence and hatred and becoming numb to it too. What a good song.
This song gives me chills every time I hear it.
My grandmother left Ireland at the age of 12...alone. She had to leave her whole family including a twin sister, never to see them again.
Zombie reminds me of her always.
RIP Dolores. You're missed.
Dude, your ability to analyze songs you’ve never heard before as you’re hearing them for the first time is next level! Great job!
👏👍 he's perfect for this I wish him all the best
Many celebrities who've talked about "reading the comments", you'll find that they've eventually either had someone else sum it all up for them, or they would stop worrying about the criticism. At the end of the day, you can't make everyone happy, so just keep being you and don't worry about the naysayers. You're awesome bro, I'm happy to see the world through your perspective.
PLEASE do Bad Wolves cover of Zombie soon...Deloris the lead singer was supposed to record with them, but she died suddenly and unexpectedly a couple of years ago. RIP. Brilliant cover.
Exactly! They asked her for permission to cover it, she said only if she could help them out. Died the day that they were supposed to meet up in the studio in London. Very sad.
Kale Dorr that was a sad day 💔
@@kaleor22 So they broke the promise and made it anyway?? The cover pales in comparison to this version, they should not have made the cover.
@@andrew348 they gave all the money they made from the song to her children. Plus I'm not sure, but I think they got permission from her family.
I also agree you need to do bad wolves cover
That definitely gives a lot of goosebumps!
Two summers ago, I visited Ireland, and we stayed a few days in Belfast, where most of this is shot. We visited the Peace Wall that divides Belfast between the Protestant (supports English rule) side and the Catholic Irish (supports an independent Ireland) side. We visited sites and memorials of bombings by both sides. It was very humbling and emotional.
This song will always give me chills.
cranberies - Ode to my Family.
probably my favorite and her voice is impeccable as always.
I saw them perform this live at Royal Albert Hall in London in 94 or 95, just before I left the military. One of the most powerful performances I’ve ever seen live.
Thanks for doing a reaction to this. Dolores O Riordan the singer come from my native hometown of Limerick. My brother was in her class in school. Very talented. She died a few years ago. Rest in peace Dolores. 🙏👍🎶🇮🇪
You have to do the Bad Wolves version of this song .. prepare to cry if you do though !! Please please do it !!
Steve Akhurst brilliant version x
I agree, brilliant cover and most covers don't do the original justice... Bad Wolves changed that trend, 100% covered justice!
#badwolves are simply awesome with this. And to think she was gonna sing in on it but that day was found dead at 46 years old. They proceeded to record that same day in her honor and proceeds go to her children.
I just said the same. Hands down best cover of Zombie ever and maybe one of the best covers of all time. Makes me cry every time I hear it.
It sucks why waste your time on Bad Douche version.....it's a fucking cover
RIP Dolores!! Too special! Look into the background of the Troubles and Ireland's struggle for independence in general. It will give you some sad moments, but worth the look! That thing she's doing with her voice is called Keening, crazy skills!
This was my mum's favourite song I didn't know her long she passed young when I was 3 but this always makes me feel close to her
This song is supposed to hurt....and remind us where hate takes us. 64 years old and this song still hurts...because people are not learning from our awful history.Peace brothers and sisters.
A total "blond" moment here.. . I thought you ment the SONG was 64 years old. I was like, Wait, it isn't that old, is it?!? 😲 Then it hit me that you were talking about your age 😂😂
@@_Ritsikas_ lol no worries .I could of phrased that better by adding '' I am 64 years old and this song etc.....'' Cheers from Canada
World lost a great one with her.. RIP
Edit, Baron Video, hope all is well.
RIP Delores! She was a force of nature. Her message was so powerful and she was slated to do a remake of this song with Bad Wolves only a few days after she died. You need to hear the Bad Wolves' version now that you've heard the base for it. Bad Wolves made the song anyway and have given the proceeds for her kids. The video will nearly have you in tears.
"No Need To Argue" by the Cranberries is truly a great song. Short, somber, deep!!
Another song with some heart and meaning to it. Alanis Morissette- you oughta know live at the Grammys. Havent seen anyone react to that version before. It's incredible. Keep doing what you're doing!
Yay...you acknowledged the lowly drummer! (I was the the lowly drummer in my day.) Powerful Song. RIP Dolores. Bad Wolves cover kicks ass!
This has been one of my all time favorite songs since i was very young🖤 love your reaction😊
Man, literally watching your musical journey waking up some passion in you to find ways to bring people together instead of being divisive is a reminder to all of us of what makes music so gawd damned important in this world of struggle.
"Cause it's got kids in there." Yeah, most wars do.
This was going on in Ireland up to the 90s real talk
Fun fact: the set that they filmed this music video on was still an active war zone while filming. Those guards weren't just for decoration
After a quick scroll through the comments, this song still proves we still haven't learnt..
Awesome song with good memories of when it 1st came out
Love this song, and incredible dark history surrounded around it, sadly because of war and religion! 😥 Deloris had an amazing singing style, may she rest in peace! Thank you for doing this song! 🙏
PS can you pleasssse do Evanescence Bring me back to life!! 😊😊😊😊
Heed the warning America.
So many fantastic Cranberries songs you can discover, so here are a few: Linger, Dreams, Ode to my Family, Electric Blue Eyes, Daffodil Lament. I could go on. To say I love this band is an understatement. RIP Dolores ✌❤
This song is on the brink of becoming daily news.
Dolores had such an amazing voice. This is their best song.
RIP ❤🌻
Black guy wearing POLICE hat! Props to you. Keep up the good work and diverse music.
He comes across a good guy,, hope he does well
So intense. Such a beautiful voice and soul. RIP Dolores. ♡
I had the honor to watch The Cranberries in concert. It was just before I started my freshman year of high school in '93. It was also my first concert so it was such a memorable night. I love The Cranberries and every time I hear their songs I'm always missing Dolores. She was a truly beautiful person with a beautiful voice, may she rest in peace.
Mr. Video, this is good music right here from the 90s.....and waiting to get home to 420 with ya
The kids painted in gold throughout and screaming at the end signified their awareness that another child was murdered during the armed struggle that divides Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, and was on his way to where they are. Lost.
As a American it was very strange to me growing up at the time how Catholics and Protestants hated each other in Ireland even though their beliefs were rooted in part to Christianity.
@@xoxxobob61 deeprooted for centuries
Xoxxo Bob it’s much deeper than religion. It just so happens that most Irish are Catholic and most English are Protestants and so the sectarianism became a part of it.
I LOVE your energy & excitement
I teared up watching her sing again
Jamal recommended you, that's good enough for me. : )
Jeez, why does that guy have to be so damned likeable!
Bad wolves cover of zombies...🔥

You reactions are so genuine and pure. I love watching you ❤ ♥ 💕
Cake going the distance
Definitely listen to Cake!
You should also react to Bad Wolves cover of this song! It's incredible! Delores O'Riordan was supposed to be on the track as well. However, the day she was supposed to record her lyrics, she passed away!
Yes 100%
No thanks, it's commercial and sterile af
Came here to say this! While her voice can never be matched, they do their best to give the song justice.
Ty for covering this song
One of my favorites ❤
If you want to know more, google the IRA, Irish Republican Army.
Very complicated history, but in (very) short, a number of paramilitary groups and terrorist organisations fighting against the English occupation of Northern Ireland.
Formed in 1917, any true peace would not be reached until 1998.
Let's not also forget the loyalist paramilitaries who were as violent and indiscriminate as the republicans
Sorry.... the IRA was formed well before 1917.... they brought the emancipation of most of Ireland in 1916. In the north, the IRA continued, because the occupation continued....... and they are only a "terrorist organization" to the British and it's allies. They fought for a United Ireland under Irish rule, they were/are freedom fighters.
@@mikemclaughlin3306 As I said, that was the (very) short story. As far as being terrorists or freedom fighters, that always depends on what side you're on... No one fights and dies because they believe they're wrong. Pluss, there has almost never been just 1 IRA... It's split and split again. Some of them did things that very much qualify them as terrorist organisastions.
@@Stranglethroat you are referring only to the IRA fro 1968 on..... you don't mention that it was the IRA that emancipated most of Ireland in 1916. The troubles weren't just from the Easter uprising of 68 forward.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter
Please do Alanis Morissette "Hand in my Pocket". Or really anything of hers from the 90s .
Rest in peace Dolores. We miss your voice!
