By this time if you own a ps3 of any model you should be doing or having preventative maintenance done on them IE opening them up and cleaning them checking them for physical visual issues and replacing the thermal paste as the systems are way old and need a little TLC
The Superslim came out In 2012 with improved CPU/GPU. As a result, the performance was basically a ninja. Sure it looks cheap but it's the most reliable one than the other models.
I own every version. I do enjoy the super slim like yourself but I also like the original due to the backwards compatibility. The original PS3 does have a large fan. You are correct about that!

I would send in my broken PS3 and they sent me back a super slim model. I still have it to this day. I bought another PS3, a slim model from an OfferUp seller and jailbroke it. People can trash on the super slim PS3 but one thing about it is that it's a very reliable console. Mine still works and hell, I still play it.

I’ll get both a Slim and a Super Slim since those are the most reliable and the Slim I’ll put in my living room while the Super Slim will go in my bedroom, which for that I’ll get a white version of it. Definitely had some great memories at the tail end of my childhood and in my earlier years of adulthood (28 now) but I’m ready to make more of them on these consoles once I get them again, plus it’ll serve as extra options for me since I live by myself.

Do not buy the original or any model with 1000 to 2000. They all have the capcitor time thing in it. Eventually it's noted that it will die in about 5 to 10 or even 20 years. All models of the PS3 from 2001 and later are perfect without the capacitor. I own the PS3 slim CECH-3001B. It will work forever. PS3 fats always eventually die due to overheating factors and the capacitor. The first models of the PS3 slim are 2000A and 2000B models, avoid them as they contain the capactior. The models from CECH2001A and B and later as well as all PS3 super slims do not have the time capacitor at all. I myself like the PS3 slim the most. I had the PS3 super slim brand new for the last 3 months. I just don't like the sliding door, the exposed laser, and the flimsy power and hdmi cable.
My advice for picking up the most reliable PS3 is to settle for the super slims or the slim models from 2010 to 2012 (2100 series, 2500 series, and the 3000 series). Original "fat" PS3s from 2006 to 2009 will eventually succumb to hardware related problems and it's only a matter of when. First PS3 slims from 2009 (2000 series) aren't reliable because they produce high amounts of heat output

I have a ps3 fat that I’ve rebuilt three times due to YLOD. This time it’s jailbroken which allows me to control fan speeds and copy my games to the ssd which I installed as well. Helps to relieve stress on the system a little. I also have it in an open space and elevated so it can breathe
I’m doing all of this on my A01 PLUS a delid with brand new thermal paste under the chip heat spreaders, AND easier to service since the IHS lids were cut off permanently, just have to place them back in the right spot by hand when you’re reassembling the console on any future service! I know someone who can do it if you need that service to really keep it alive!

It left a bad taste in my mouth. After five years, I decided to get back into it and bought a PS4 pro. I bought two physical games with the console. After seeing the heating issues it had and realizing that discs now as fat as gaming are nothing more than installation ports, I bought the digital versions of the two games I bought with the console and I haven't had any issues since and I'm likely upgrading to PS5 this year. Truth be told, if I had known that discs were nothing more than installation ports now and little more than window dressing for those that like to display the games in a bookcase, I would have bought the games digitally when I got the console. While I understand what you're saying, this is what happens when technology evolves. Though I think what will end up happening within the next generation of consoles is because there is an emphasis on cloud gaming now, platforms like PlayStation might be able to link games purchased digitally from various generations and let users who have paid for those games play them as long as their linked to the same account and that might also solve issues regarding backwards compatibility that everyone wants now. As for me, I didn't buy any games really digitally from the PS3, but I did buy some add-on content and I think the only games I had that were all digital were Stardust HD and Hustle Kings, but it would be nice if it were possible to play games that are no longer in circulation from companies like THQ and Midway even though THQ still exists under different branding. A lot of those games were classics. I'm a sports gamer so there are a few titles that I miss playing that if they added it to PS Plus I'd play immediately.
