Yeah, I’ve had that one for almost 9 years now. Not one single issue and I still use it frequently.
It’s basically a metal gear solid machine for me
@@thelastsnake6653 Cool. I’ve been meaning to try that series. I’m playing ni no kuni
I owned the og 60gb ps3. Started issues 2 years in. When this model came out traded in for that model. Still running. Also my super slim had a 120 gb hdd
Same here
It's my PS1/PS2/PS3 JRPG machine
* Love using this PS3 to this day👏🏼
Got one of these when they came out to replace my fat model that burnt out. Only "complaint" I had is I needed to bust out the PS1 and 2 to be play my entire library at will.
I own the Slim & Super Slim and love them both. I used to have the Piano but too many issues with that one.
You don't have to Slide it open with your Hand Because it have a Button you press to open it. You just have to close it with your Hand.
"Where people would put different things inside of it, mostly kids..."
I initially pictured parents pushing the sliding door aside and sitting their baby on top of the disc reader, but I'm assuming that's not what was meant...
No, that's exactly what he meant. You just put your kid in the slot and let it whirr them inside. Now they're in a videogame.
@@noahdavis7406 I think that only worked if you had previously downloaded Tron Evolution onto the hard drive 😀
Brilliant
@@vspencer9764 Ahhh, yes, you're right. I just thought it was a one time thing. I wonder if my brother's still in there...
That's how they get into Greed Island.
oh hey, its the ps3 model i own and i actually really love it. Idk, i just really like sliding the disc tray, feels pretty satisfying
Also if it dies you can get your disc back. Hahaha!
@@WllKiedSnake you can always get your disk back, but level of effort to do so is vastly reduced in this model lol
I used to own one as well my dad got it for me off of Craigslist for 200 bucks I loved it so much played hundreds of hours.. I came across a ps3 slim for free my from my boss and it brought back so many memories when I heard that load screen ahh. The ps3 was a gem
@@TheCHRILLCAST I lost my copy of AC Rome or whatever its called when my Fat PS3 died. :'( It looked like that game was hitching and having frame issues as it was dieing. So a year later I got a Super Slim. No problems with it to this day.
@@WllKiedSnake lol I didn’t mean the disc would be fine, I just meant you could get it back lol
I’m glad your super slim has been working out for you :) I’ve always thought about picking one up, but never have.
I think it's important to mention that PS3 installs work way differently from PS4/5 installs in that you don't have to copy the whole disk over. Iirc, most games required only a couple hundred megabytes or so, so having only 12 gigabytes of storage wasn't a bad deal if you mostly played disk-based games
I think it was more aimed at games purchased from the store although some games did install a large amount of data to the drive still. MGS4 was like 8-9GB from memory and GT games also had large data files so the 12GB was very limiting if you had just one of those games.
Until you tried to play gta5
Also actually towards the end of PS3's life circle most games are trying to have no installation at all and ultilizing Blu-Ray and cache's advantage to save the storage space. Most EA physical games does that and I was shocked to see NFS Most Wanted 2012's only drawback is the initial loading is a bit longer than digital version.
Yep. Similar thing with the 4 GB Xbox 360 if I recall correctly.
The problem was realising it the same year of gta5, a lot of people that bought it think gta 5 would run.
I remember getting the super slim 500gb for christmas one year when they went on sale. My 60gb shit the bed and getting this one was so much better. Still have it, and got a new 60gb for Ps2 and Ps1
I got the same one when my 80GB YLoD on me, still miss the native PS2 playback, but at least I still have the PS2 > PS3 Memory Card adapter.
I also got a GTA 5 500 GB PS3 when everyone was at the GameStop to get the PS4
Definitely an upgrade in the power saving department... the OG PS3 was super power hungry
Lol shit the bed.
@@shaggy7599 every time i power up the SS 500GB it’s nice and quiet, but i power on the 60GB to play some PS1/2? I find out Im the proud owner of a Boeing 747
It drives me mad that people don't use the open button on these.... 😂
And then they wonder why it is broken
@@totallylegitsonyemployee I've had the super slim model since 2012 and opened the tray "manually" and never had any problems

That’s super slim is incredibly reliable. I own two of them and have never had an issue.
I am planning to buy a PS3 so should I go for Slim or Super Slim?
@@sarahphyllis5782
Personally, I'd say you can't go wrong with either one. Just get the one you either like more or the one you prefer more.
@@nsgames24 I liked the lightweight of PS3 Super Slim but I loved the bluray drive system of PS3 Slim. I have no issues with storage or the power button etc. All I need is a durable console which can let me play games for hours and hours when I am depressed or sad. I just don't want the console to get heat up and end up dead like the original PS3
@@sarahphyllis5782
Trust me, both Slim models are a heck of a lot more reliable than the original models. But in terms of which one you want, I honestly don't know what to tell ya.
Where in the heck are you finding them?
The first PS3 slim is a masterpiece. My favorite console of that generation from an hardware aesthetic and usability standpoint. Those nice round physical buttons feel so nice to press and it looks really nice to boot. It's not a giant fingerprint magnet like the original.
Facts it was the best built console and had the most features of the 7th generation.
100% agree best one they made hands down
I prefer the Xbox 360 slim E model myself.
I have both still. The original ps3 in my home has no finger prints. Why would anyone need to touch it? They are pretty heavy. Most have the set it and forget it approach. I use the controller to turn it on or the remote and I’m able to put discs in without having to touch the console. It’s heavy and doesn’t need to be supported with the other hand.😂 only reason people touch it is because they want to not so much because they need to. Like magpies they just like shiny things.
Agreed! I imported a PS3 2500 series slim from Japan in satin silver color and it looks and runs beautifully. The phats are ticking time bombs waiting to die and the super slim is ugly as sin in my eyes lol.
Sometimes less is more.
This PS3 is a nice example of simple and effective. Back in the day I just changed it's HDD for another one with more memory and it still works perfectly today.
More storage you mean.
Memory = RAM.
I did the same thing for a Samsung 860 EVO SSD & not going back to HDD again ^^
I bought that exact PlayStation 3 model at a GameStop in my area some time back in September 2015, and I've used it regularly ever since with no issues. It's honestly the best PS3 I ever had and I've had a lot of memories with that thing.
What a beautiful system
Nah, I’ve seen weirder…
Anyone remember the silver PS3 with the boomerang controller from the PS3 reveal?
the silver ps3 was still the launch ps3 though. The controller was different , the console wasn't
@@solid_justice5855 all I need to see is the boomerang controller and I know that it is the weirdest PS3.

PS2 still on top with the four distinctive designs. Not counting all the lesser design variations for two out of those of course. Almost up there with the Megadrive really. :)
@@AltCutTV Four? You mean two (the OG one, and the Slim which looks very similar to the original, only a lot thinnier and smaller)?
And yes, I don't really count the PSX since it's very different compared to the PS2.
@@netako PSX is an official PS2 product, so it should count I think. Being notably different the criteria to count after all. The fourth one would be the TV-PS2.
Only the regular systems were sold in most regions though, so if only counting global availability then, sure. But that makes it all a bit boring doesn't it? ;)
I remember changing the hdd on my fat PS3. The screws holding it in the caddy were the softest screws I've ever seen. They completely stripped almost immediately, without me even using that much pressure. I had to get a pair of wire cutters to put indents into the side of the heads and rotate them that way. $600 for the console and Sony uses the cheapest screws in the universe.
i opened mine this year to replace the paste and i got like 6 screws stripped, i might've needed a lighter screwdriver but still.
I had an original phat 80GB with backward compatibility and stripped it within seconds...
Love my super slim. Grabbed one a few years ago to play Demon's Souls before the official servers shut down. Love not having the disc slot. The sliding cover might fail eventually but it's certainly easier to access!
Edit: Mine also has an HDD and not flash memory, thankfully.
This model is the worse PS3 model it’s the cheapest built and doesn’t have all the features of the OG PS3.
Iv had my super slim scene it came out! Still performing like new! Still play my games & still watching my blu rays!

I’ve owned all 3 versions and this one definitely feels cheap and strange. But I haven’t had any issues with it after all these years
Same, I really like the super slim but nothing beats the premium feel of the “phat” with its touch sensors, but the super slim is lightweight and more portable it just feels cheaper with it's physical buttons in my opinion otherwise it's great and has the best looking official ps stand.
I currently own the ps one Slim, the ps3 super Slim and the original ps4 from 2014 with touch sensors. I plan on grabbing the ps2 slim and the ps5 slim next as I want to collect all the Slim series in black variants.
Fun fact: the super slim plays ps1 disk titles.
You're absolutely right it's really weird looks a little cheap when it comes to build quality
That's usually the point of the revisions, is to be cheaper by using cheaper parts.
It's cool and quiet, all that matters to me.

By this point Sony had lost over a couple of billion on the PS3 so it's not that hard to imagine they went cheap as possible.
I chose a super slim to play my ps3 collection. I know it looks cheap but I actually really like it. Less things to malfunction too
The first time I saw this thing in a Best Buy I thought I was looking at a DVD player.

My favorite is the PS3 slim. Sony's final revisions always feel cheap and weird. It's happened with most consoles and their handhelds, too. They get lighter, incorporate more plastic, and are less mechanical.
Same with Xbox 360 slim, the 360 E actually took away ports.
It is your favourite because that's the one you own
@@toraomc1076 he's right though. The first one felt premium, but was flimsy. The first slims didn't feel premium, but perfectly sturdy. The super slim is like all the worst parts of both, not the best like you'd expect

True but failure rate wasn't really the problem with the ps3
@@junglezone7323 the fat had huge failure rate.
@@dericjames2018
No it didn't. It was exaggerated beyond belief to cope with the 360 failure rate of over 50%. Ps3 failure rate was below 3%, which is way below the normal rate for any electronic device.
Got this one right when they released. I was hoping for a PS3 for years at this point and there I was, in a mall with my mom, seeing a brand new model with whooping 500gbs that I've never seen before. My mom bought it for me right then and there. I cried my eyes out on the spot for what felt like good 30 minutes. Took it home, and that very day downloaded the Uncharted Drake's Fortune demo as that was the franchise I was getting the console for.
9 years later, that franchise changed my life, and I still play my PS3 to this day. Recently finished Red Dead Redemption and now going through all the MGS games. Good purchase.
I’ve mentioned this a million times. The Super Slim HAS AN EJECT BUTTON. It breaks because people keep sliding it with their hands
I have the same system but in Bright Red and it has a 500GB Hard drive on it.
It has been with me for 8 years now,
Played loads of games on it, from The Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, Resident Evil 5, FFXIII, Killzone 3,
I even bought some PS1 game digitally like Xenogears, Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve, fun times.
And it is still running till this day! :D
So wanted that colour, sadly could only find the regular black one though :(

Got the 4000 model with the gta 5 bundle in like 2012. Still play Oblivion and New Vegas amonst games like saints row 2 to 4 Megaman legends etc
I had a super slim PS3, specifically a Assassins Creed 3 bundle, and it was a really good system. I remember never running out of storage, because the one I got came with 500 GB, and this was when the biggest game to install was GTA and Destiny 1, which paired were only 120-140 GB, and those were the most storage consuming games. Others you wouldn’t even have to install, so I remember never having to worry about storage on this thing. Honestly it was kinda impressive considering the fact that the Xbox one and PS4 first shipped with also 500 GB. I will admit tho that after 3-4 years, my system kept having issues and one day my entire system got corrupted and I had to factory reset it. Still, I loved that thing back in the day. Idk if I liked it more than my 360, but it was a damm good console. Didn’t realize until I got one years later how much different the PS3 Regular slim was compared to the Super Slim.
It’s amazing that 2 generations later they only upgraded the space by 300gb. There should be a 4TB option by now. 4TB’s cost like $100 on amazon lol. Consoles are always trying to do the minimum
I promise you, after 4 RROD's in a row, I love my ps3 WAY better than any of my 360s. I only wish the cross platform games had been properly optimized for it. It seems as though SONY failed to develop proper tools for their clients to use. Its almost like they didnt fully understand the console themselves.
They're wacky but I kinda like the super Slims, for some reason they now sell for a higher price than the Slim PS3

Well, the 80gb didn't even last 6 months it got YLOD. So I picked up a used 80gb from a guy on craigslist and once again YLOD shortly after. Then the 40gb's BR drive died:(
I recently got an itch to get back into the system because I loved the library it's literally my favorite PS console. So I imported a rare satin silver slim (2500 series) from Japan and it looks and runs beautifully, started picking up games while they're still relatively cheap and available. Then got a PS2 phat in excellent condition from a thrift store for next to nothing.
I say this people: DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE PHATS. They are poorly designed and just waiting to die. The BC isn't worth it. Buy a PS2 or download them off the PS store. Not to mention there are HD collections of alot of the more popular games like God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy ect. Buy a slim or a superslim. My two cents after 3 dead systems lol.

Ps3 super slim gets too much hate. I had a slim at my grandmas and I got my own super slim for Christmas when I was a young kid. I was super excited just to have a ps3 at my own house and I thought the door was fun to open and close. Still have it, still works great.
Put an SSD in your PS3. Digital Foundry and others have shown that it stabilizes frame rates and reduces or eliminates visible texture swapping

Something I just learned a few weeks ago is that you're not supposed to slide the lid over physically. I didn't even know that push button existed until I took mine apart to clean it. Physically shoving it over every time is what likely led to failures as it ground down the catch.
You didn’t notice the bug eject button on the front, did you think it was for looks
Whenever I get a PlayStation 3 (I sorely missed out on it during the 7th generation), this will likely be the model I get (just in the Crystal White color, because I already have enough game consoles in a boring black color) in the event I am unable to acquire a launch model PlayStation 3.

I remember being so confused when I saw this design thinking how different it was to my buddies OG ps3. I now own the superslim thanks to my brother in law who didn't want his anymore. Although he definitely abused the console it still runs prefect.
I just hope that Sony can work on making PS3 games available to purchase, download and play locally on the PS4/PS5 without requiring a PSN subscription.
The PSN subscription is a total scam. It basically makes you pay to use the internet you already pay for. You're not even getting dedicated servers, it's all P2P. Recently my seldomly used super slim have heating issue. I replace the thermal paste and it's good to go. It's also my 1st time doing it. Warranty is out the door giving it is over 10 years.

My 500gb Super Slim was 199,99€ on Amazon back then with GTA V bundled.
The 500GB model was great value, shame it never made it outside Europe IIRC.

250GB model (SuperSlim), Got it via "Wal-Mart" holiday bundle (Uncharted 1&2+DLC's&Avatars, InFamous 1&2+DLC's+Festival of Blood) gotta say best Christmas present of 2011.
Best part when a friend of my came to our house an say "What's that?"...me, it's a PS3. He be like, No way it's hellag quiet.
I have one of these sealed. For a time, I was buying a system to keep sealed towards the end of each system's life. Unfortunately in this case it means I end up keeping the most cheap feeling of the variations.
My slim is still going strong so I'll probably never open it. But I kind of wish I had done it earlier and have a sealed slim
And its still not obsolete... so many great games of so many great franchises are still stuck on the PS3. Some like Demon Souls, Virtua Fighter 5 and the Ninja Gaiden Sigma Trilogy FINALLY made it to current hardware... but King of Fighters 13, the Capcom D&D Arcade games, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls and countless other games other people care about are still waiting on the other side for their ridiculously overdue ports.
I love these tear down videos, it's great for when I want to break open my consoles for the first time.
Would you make a video about your basic tools that you use, the best brands to buy, etc?
I bought this one when my Slim had stopped working. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to the disc tray and its general look. Now, I actually don't care.
Spawn wave this was my first system I actually saved up & bought for myself. I got it day one too ! 😄😄
I have a Super Slim since it came out. But I have the Version with a 500gb HDD. In all the years I wasn't able to fill up more than 100gb.
But I took good care of it and it's still in pristine condition.
At the Moment it's my Netflix machine in my Bedroom. But after the PS3 I changed sides and got an Xbox. Now running the Series X since Day one.
After my original fat ps3 red lighted, I got one of these. It was going to cost more to fix the fat than to buy one of these. I should have fixed the fat.
Nothing wrong with the utlta slim and I still use it today, but the fat was a much better version.
I know this is an older video and my comment is probably on here somewhere. But hardly ANYONE when making a video about the "super slim" ever mentions it can easily mess up the system by not using the release button for the sliding door.
It always killed me when a friend would open it by sliding the top. I told them it would mess it up but they didn't believe me. But of course over time, I was right and ended up having to fix about 20 different ones for a few different friends over the years. 🤣
Something you didn't mention, was that the Super Slim uses only half the electricity that the original FAT model used! A joke instantly springs to mind but you'd say i was FAT bashing, or FAT shaming 😁
Of course being FAT you always guzzle up more. But personally i'd say in this case "grilled spring onions" is the healthier, and longer lasting option. It's also easier to fit into tight spaces 🤭
I bought this when my FAT PS3 bricked. Mine had 500GB tho & was bundled with GTAV. I didn't mind buying another PS3 right before PS4 launch as it wasn't Back Compat.
It may look weird and cheap but its the most reliable PS3, all it needs is just dusting off+thermal paste change, no need for a complex maintenance routine like at the Fat one(delid, capacitors, PSU replacement etc.) and maybe Slim too.
I also have friends that got one since release day and guess what, no issue, no "YLOD".
I own both the original released fatboi design & the super slim. I never had any issues with the super slim, i still use it.
Hitachi hard drive goes brrrr.
Its probably the worst design of Playstation as many confirmed when PS3 Super Slim came out. On the other hand the PS3 Slim had a Knight Rider look. Wish sony launches PS3 Pro sometime later 😊
That’s the PS3 I’m using it’s the best one it’s not weird if you go play with the other ones they will make noise and then one day break especially the 20GB and 60 GB that plays PS2 games less then a year that’s if you play PS2 games a lot that’s why I don’t play physical PS4 games on my PS5 not taking a risk of it breaking
