Man, thats one talktive hand you got there, very Italian....lol Excellent video man, I too have been planning to do that, but it takes a lot of money to get all those consoles....but I REALLY.....REALLY want that sony bravia, its like the greatest invention ever
I now also want the region free ps2 slim...i didnt know about that. BTW, do you know if the Bravia PS2 is region free or something like that? Im really curious now about getting it and modding it
You must has misheard what I said, the 70000 isn't region free, the power supply is universal, I was implying you can import an overseas 70000 without the need for a step up/down converter. No consumer PS2 is region free, the only one that was region free is the TEST and TOOL PS2 units used by developers.
Greatest Squrriel Maybe there’s no social apps or system updates because it was made in the year 2000! And also the PS2 had a system update disc in Japan only and had a Netflix disc in Brazil so yeah your comment doesn’t really make sense anymore
* Lunaleon * Still generally doesn’t have those. I mean, it has Ethernet port and rereleased a billion times. They could’ve added it but nope. Look at the bloated Xbox.
I've owned two FAT PS2s. I got one brand new in the early 2000s. I had just figured out while watching this video that twisting the logo was possible. Now I can use the PS2s vertically and not feel weird doing it. Now I'm gonna read every instruction manual for every system that I get for the *good secrets.*
From experience it seems the original style ps2 was very vulnerable to breaking if dropped, but my dad threw our ps2 slim at the trash can from across the kitchen and it ended up with a gash in the side but that was years ago and it still works like a charm to this day
Metta•Phonia hahaha I don't remember the reason anymore but that's one of the many memories i have of him throwing things across house as a kid, like a tv remote through the wall or when he somehow managed to send an office chair perfectly through a doorway and have it land on the couch
For anyone considering buying a used one. I feel it is important to mention one major flaw of the SCPH-30000 series, in short: the laser units on their disc drives are known to be unreliable so one day you might turn on your PS2 and notice that it will no longer read Ps1 and Ps2 games on CD, Double layer DVD games (God of War 1 and 2, Gran Turismo 4, the European version of Genji etc.) or even just regular DVD games in the worst cases. There is supposed to be a fix that involves taking the console apart, cleaning the lens and adjusting the laser potentiometer with a screwdriver. It’s easier than it sounds, you don’t have to take the console apart entirely, just the disc drive and you only need a regular philips head screwdriver but your mileage may vary and even if you did manage to get it back working this will decrease the lifespan of the laser. If you really want a fat Ps2, don’t bother with the 30000 series and get the 50000 instead.
@@sliverbullet7973 well it has a better disc drive for one, there were some minor differences with the 30000 models and earlier but i can’t remember them now
@@sliverbullet7973 In my experience, the 50000 has a significantly quieter fan, and the drive is much better than the 30000's. Also, it has an integrated IR receiver, which is handy if you plan on using it as a DVD player.
@@smtlego The 39000 model seems to have even more reliable laser units. It may have the loudest fan of the whole series, but it is also the sturdiest PS2 console. The best solution would be to swap out the 39000 fan with a 50000 one. Which is fairly easy to do.
@@OGKWAM idk I feel like microtransactions ruined gaming, every game has them now before you bought the game and got the game, now you buy the game and get part of the game. Just look we haven't gotten any gta since gta v in 2012-2013. And for ps2 came out vice city and san andreas and liberty city stories and gta 3 all within 5 years and top quality games and here we are sitting 7 years without a new gta game. I know gta isn't all games but most games were crating with top quality and quantity at 6th gen gaming. Plus online gaming is without stories and only gameplay plus it's the root of microtransactions so i really dislike when every game has multiplayer. In short therms companies grew more greedy over time which makes less games and more buying dlc and microtransactions
PERKE Yea no lie I feel you micro transactions are out of hand now , funny I was just thinking like when the fuck is gta coming out today lmao. And don’t get me started on sports games micro transactions smh and now developers are releasing unfinished games and making players wait for patches , maybe you are right , I hope VR will usher in a new better era of gaming in a couple of years
They could make a ps2 remake. With all the old games like Need for speed mw and god of war. I never owned a ps2 though but was intressed in playing it. But it was a console that could deserve a remake.
Best about Fat: can plug HDD and run backups from it, runs PSX games using PSX internal hardware (Slim uses emulation)so its like playing on PSX Best about Slim: Dont need to buy network adapter, can run backups via ethernet from ur Pc or LAN, its more silent Comment if you want to add more
You can run games from a HDD on the Slim 70000 too. The 70000 coincidentally also has hardware backwards compatibility too, making the definitive best version of the PS2.
for europe lads; If you want to go for the FAT series, here is what I learned from repairing; on 5000x series the fan is not that loud, and the optical drive is quieter somewhat too, compared to the 3000x series. However, you need to be careful not to use scratched discs in the system, because the laser controller IC has a bug, wich can result (and ofthen does!) a toasted lens. This bug can be fixed with "romeo" mod. ( I still prefer 5000x, overall of any, if you treat it well, its gonna last.) The slimline 7000x is not the best choice, it has several incompatibility issues with games, also its hard to find (nowdays its seems impossible) to get a properly working lens for the system. The 7700x and up series has a slightly improved disc drive, and doesnt have compatibility issues. If you have a slim, 7000x or 7700x, I highly recommend to remove the cooling fan, and clean it, lot of dust stucks in the fan in the years, its a known issue, causing overheat. All hail my Hungrish language skills, have a good day.
The 7000x series can be considered the best one if you have the skills: this model still has the HDD controller on board, and with soldering and cutting some space for the IDE cable, you can connect an HDD to the console, making it the smallest PS2 with HDD support. Although, you will either have to use a 2.5" drive with an adapter or have an external PSU for the 3.5" one, as the slim model does not have enough electricity to power the latter (+ probably lacking 12v rails)
first two playstation two games ive ever played and owned are gta 3, and zone of the enders. vice city is amazing btw, should check out my banshee tribute video on my channel if you love gta.
I played my ps2 90000 a week and my tv has a problem on display, it blackout, display ok after i turn off and on the tv power source, and about a minute this problem happen again, my tv is led tv... Why this happen
@@dahsudah Plug it in without a disc and go to display settings. You change it there and then it will display correctly. I forget exactly what you change but the setting is there i believe.
Wtf PS2 logo can be turned? As soon as you said that I reached mine and tried with PS2 Slim and damn... i was using PS2 logo turned sideways all my life lol
I have the 7000 model, still in near-perfect quality. Definitley my favourite console. I'm convinced it's the best version. It's quiet, small, good-looking and effective.
The 70000s were also the only ones to keep the original ps1 hardware built in for ps1 games as later slim ps2s removed it and play ps1 games via emulation, which isn't authentic.
kevin holsteyns , Does OPL support i-Link and LAN ? ( thought I may have read LAN support somewhere either from HDloader or OPL ; not sure about i-Link support... if possible, am seeking one package for LAN and i-Link playing from [ internal ] hard drive / SSD )
How to pair them? Will the controller pair it automatically? Will the ps2 recognize the dongle automatically? Does it need some special setup? This is interesting.
I remember my dad buying me one in a bundle with Lego batman when I was 8 years old. I spent hours on that ps2 having sleepovers with friends and just playing games
There's another model that you didn't discuss: The 75000 models. The 70000 models were considered perfect PS2s in miniature. Starting with the 75000 models they stripped PS1 hardware and switched over to PS1 emulation. This also affected certain PS2 games that used PS1 hardware for minor functions.
the only gripes with the 70000 (as well as the 50000) is the mechacon crash (eventually resulting in the laser diode self-destructing) and the ribbon cable eventually scratching discs, they'd be perfect otherwise
Danuzz yep, i own 75006 HK version Fmcb installed, bios battery died 3 days ago, plays from usb, laser still working, no modchip afaik. I installed fmcb by myself using pendrive amd CD-R. It needs cleaning though For 9000x models they seemed to patch the IR driver installation (first iteration ones, 30000 model), rendering fmcb useless without mod chip like matrix, modbo
@Fighting LeveL but it is rare to work. Some 90000 models have an older bios and FMCB works on them (like on some of the first slims that were made had IDE solder points leftover from the older model and you can install an internal HDD, but it quickly got removed), but the majority have the "seek update" function removed like mine and it doesnt work, you can install on the Memory Card, but it doesnt boot on startup. You can mod using modchips however.
I own all PS2 models. The 10000 (10000), 30000 (39001), 50000 (50006), 70000 (79002) and 90000 (90001). My favorite is the 90000. Most beautiful PS2 design ever made (for me), quiter fan than the other models, doesn't need a brick adaptor like the 70000, less overheating, slimmer and less weight than 70000 and more. But the lens is stronger/better in 70000
Something else to consider: The Multi-Tap to let 4 - 8 players each have their own controllers. Some after-market multi-taps do NOT work on the Slims. The SONY multi-tap works fine.
Yeah, it's why the hand gestures look kinda fake and not in sync. I would do the voice over with a clip on mic while recording the vid and redub certain parts you felt didn't go well in editing. Also, some "umm"s and imperfections are fine; it makes the video feel more natural and less scripted.
If your getting a fat PS2 get the 39000 or 50000. From my experience the 39000 is the most reliable but the fan is loud as hell. The 50000 is very quiet but the lasers aren’t as strong or last as long as the 39000. I also find the laser and tray rails to last longer on the 39000. The 50000 is also slightly faster at reading disks and the CPU is also 5 MHz faster but it doesn’t effect gameplay or frame-rates from what I’ve seen I’d also suggest avoiding the old 30000 and 30000 R models because they tend not read blue bottom PS2 CDs. If you find one for a good deal and it works it’s fine but if you can get the 39000 and if the fan bothers you get the 50000.
One problem that effects the 7000 PS2's is the bloody ribbon cable for the laser, they slowly become unstuck from the bottom of the console over years of use and then start to stick up and come in contact with your discs causing circular scratches. Apparently one off the ways its caused is by not turning your console off properly so the laser doesn't go back to its default position on its runner arms and causes the ribbon to get out of shape over time. Just a warning to you all to make sure you check your clearance before putting rare games in a PS2 you haven't used in a while.
Literally this exact same thing happened to my slim model and it fucking sucks arse. So many fucking games that I was still playing and have yet to play and since the fuckin laser burned out and the ribbon shit scratches all of my owned discs, I haven't touched the thing in almost 2 years now. So many memories are with that bloody console it's insane and now i'm debating on whether I should somehow try to get the thing fixed or just buy a new one that's over $100 on ebay or something.
The best ps2 slim to buy is the 79000 series. Every single slim will eventually scratch and destroy your discs for the reasons you mentioned except the 79000 series. This is because there are plastic clips holding the ribbon down instead of glue adhesive, ensuring the ribbon will never pop up and scratch the disc. I think the area the ribbon sits in is also deeper on the 79000 series.
I think it's also worth noting that the 7000 runs hotter than the 9000, and has a metal fan (as opposed to a plastic one on the 9000) which might sound better but is actually a liability if you live in a humid place like a coastal city. It will rust and get really noisy.
Syndicate no, there are many people saying that their og’s laser died on them years later. I have the 70000 model slim and the lasers and the console itself have no issue.
deanx78 well you can fix that with new laser and ribbon cable i fixed that and i cut scissors the black laser holder that scratches the disc when you cut with scissors it will give the space with the disc running but this is my 14 year old soon in september console so it depends how you hold console the maintenance will be the key for the console but anyway i love this 70004a model that i have smooth:) have a nice day guys
FreeMCBoot cannot be run on SCPH-9000x slim models with a datecode of 8C (3rd quarter of 2008) or later because they use BIOS version 2.30, which closed off the entry point of FreeMCBoot. The only PS2 slims that can be modded with HDD are the SCPH-700xx models because starting with SCPH-7500x models, HDD support was axed after Sony removed the SPEED chip for the networking functions and moved the SPEED chip's functions to the PowerPC based CPU called Deckard.
Just want to expand a bit on the 30000 models. The first two scph-30000s, called v3 and v4, distinguished by six (v3) and eight (v4) small lids underneath, including feet. The v3 is notorious for bad lasers, and is an older design internally, and i remember more difficult to install mod chips in. The preferred 30000 model is the 30000R, which is a V5, and the best laser of the lot.
Very useful information. To my understanding there is 22 revisions and would have liked to make more a more comprehensive video, but I don't have money or resources to gather them or investigate everything. So I instead focused on the very broad revisions (30000, 50000, 70000, 90000)
Jørgen Hvalby , Looking to delineate my maintenance / repair options... Is that laser the best of the 30000 models, even better than 39xxx or 5xxxx models or do all the lasers, even one particular cross-model compatible laser, after your reference point work well through the rest of the large PS2 era?
Just2Options? Irrational: FearOrExuberance? The 30000R and 39000 are practically the same, with minor changes due to modchip prevention measures. They cover v5-v8 and have the same laser. The 50000 is another laser, which came out after my time as a modder. I have a 39000 and a 50000 and they both still run perfectly.
Jørgen Hvalby , Can I trouble you for an applicable reference to a mod for making the 39001 model region-free ( currently confined to NTSC-U ) for running from the DVD tray for i-Link networking and from an internal drive for LAN multiplayer titles? Beyond a laundry list of non-networking titles, I'd like to add to my multiplayer local network with Moto GP 4 and Colin McRae Rally 2005 ( sorely missed ) Indycar Series 2005 Spy vs Spy Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings and Battle Gear 2 ( Japan ) / Tokyo Road Race ( PAL ) Thanks for this hard to find and / or often disparately sourced clarification!
The 9000x has to be better than the 7000x edition, for 2 basic reasons: 1) the fan air exiting through the side allows the heat to not interfere/conflict with the cables, avoiding burning etc, which is clever. And 2), it's more durable; I bought the 7000x edition TWICE, the 1st burned the disc driver, the 2nd's fan broke to shreds, not to mention the sound of scratching plastic when it worked on the last 3 days, before switching. All that since 2006...
gotta agree with you, I also owned both 70000 and 90000 but, the 70000 broke down because of the lense which I repaired it 3x and by the third time I had it enough, and bought 90000 which still never broke to this day
Seeing all this, I would have to say a 7000 model is probably the better version. Seeing as how the slimmer tech in the port is much more convenient and the adapter really helps for foreign games. And also, it may not last or be as tough as the 3000 or 5000 though it's bulkiness, the 7000 model has been relatively easy to clean if taken really good care. So overall, I really do believe the 7000 model is the best version of the PS2 console there is.
There is also the slim 7900x model which is the only slim model to have the ribbon cable clipped down rather than glued. So no chance of it curling and damaging discs
Sony has never been my number 1 platform. My favorites from this gen were easily the Xbox and Dreamcast. But I respect the PS2 as it had some amazing titles. And I admire Sony's engineers for what they accomplished with the slim. Its so cool how they slimmed down the fat that much. I know that a major chunk of the fats design was its HDD bay and that's easy to get rid of but fitting all of that tech at the time into something that slim and then the 90000 model having the PSU built in was awesome.
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess wrong. The Dreamcast belongs to the sixth generation of consoles, it was just released (and retired) early. The Xbox was in no way a successor, but Microsoft borrowed some design cues from the Dreamcast controller though.
Great video! This was very informative, as I’m looking to buy a PS2 soon. I think I wanna go for the OG fat front loading one, for all the nostalgia possible 😁
this answered a lot questions I couldn't find online, thank u~ and by the way I heard that 70000 model suffered from some overheating problem and the incompatibility with some PS2 games is that true? 90000 has some PSOne incompatibility issue too
I got my 70000 model in 2005 and I never had an over-heating issue plus I live in the warm tropics, so it would have been subjected to more heat. But it did have an issue where is was scratching discs, what happens is the ribbon cable connecting the lens and motherboard gets pushed up and scratches discs. It's an easy fix, involves pushing the lens around, there's detail tutorials on the internet. I've never had any issues with the 70000 and 90000 playing games. But as mentioned in the video, Metal Gear Solid Special Missions was the only game that gave me problems and can not be played on the 30000 and 50000 model.
so I just traded my 3DSXL for a PS2 90000 a moment ago, the case is very new and the guy didn't even peel off the plastic film, but the metal in the vent and the AV out slot are rather rusty, is this a common phenomenon, to get rusty?
"the component video in later fat ps2 is more noisier" can u plz explain a little more? it means if I use component cable on later versions of fat PS2s, I get blurrier display?~
Basically small artifacts appear in high contrast parts of the image. It really varies from game to game based on their visual make-up and colour usage. It's not a big difference, you really would have to have your eye pressed against the TV to see the differences. You can negate the issue entirely by using RGB Scart cables if it's option for your set-up. But I personally prefer component for having the option of using progressive scan in some games, like Street Fighter Alpha Anthology and Black.
The SCPH-50000 model also has a quieter fan, progressive scan for DVDs, and support for DVD-RW and DVD+RW along with the built-in IR. It's essentially a slim in the body of a thick model (and thus can use the HDD). The SCPH-50000 is the best version you can get (unless you have the means to get the PS2 DVR).
Just saw this. My PS2 Slim (US) SCPH-70012 (looks like yours with the shiny band and two dull top surfaces) The difference (externally) is it has an RJ11 modem input in addition to RJ45 ethernet, optical out, AV multi out and.... that wonderful external power supply that can work worldwide. Another great part of the PS2's with an external power block - heat removed from the system helps keep the unit running longer / cooler.
I mean I knew all this, but it's nice to randomly stumble on a video with another Aussie on it. Nice to know I'm not the only one with multiple PS2s... though that being said my 50k is my love. Gday and good luck with future videos mate!
Game Systems that Ozzies can't wank? (Sorry couldn't resist) I always wanted the TEST PS2, but the only one I could find, the guy wanted $500AUD for it.
Great video! Is there any way you could do a comparison of the performance differences between the 70K and the 90K? I'm pretty sure the 90K actually loads games the fastest which makes it more ideal for things like speedruns.
I highly recommend the PS2 Slim series because the PS2 Slim is a top-loading PS2 which means you won't be dealing with automatic slot-loading disc drives eating up your discs. Like the original fat PS2 models, the PS2 Slim models are backwards-compatible with your PS1 and PS2 game discs and PS1 and PS2 memory cards.
There's a lot more to it than that. 30000, 30000R, 35000 and 39000 have bad load times and tend to break a lot. The 50000 has REALLY good load times (This is the one I'd recommend and it works well with Matrix Infinity) The 70000 is good but suffers from heat issues, leave a game playing for a while and it gets VERY hot, don't put on carpet or low ventilated area! As for the 90000, I've never owned one but I've heard they have PS1 issues. The easiest one to install a modchip into is the 39000 model but due to a weak inferior laser and laser circuitry, burned games will likely not load properly, the best for modchips is as I said the 50000 models, it has slightly more difficult solder points but it's WAY better than the previous models. If you're low on space get a 70000 those are great too. STEER CLEAR FROM THE 30000R PS2's!!! These are the worst and have aged better than room temperature milk. I've repaired and modded multiple of these models and they are fucking terrible, even with a good working laser games take a disgustingly long time to boot up and work, and the console has a scary fail rate. That R stands for RUBBISH! Overall go for 39000, 50000 or 70000. (35000 is a slightly more improved 30000R but is still shit but those are hard to come by so whatever)
One of the perks of the slim is the DVD top loader, very durable. Yet on mine it still failed. Then again that poor slim of mine has been beaten around since I was a small child. I can still play games on it through Free McBoot though. I'm about to retire the Slim, Where it can sit next to the PS1 on my shelf as a reminder of all the fun I had on it. I've taken it apart to clean it more times than I can count. That PS2 will live on in my heart as my favorite console next to the GameCube.
With the 70xxx series Sony left the hardware required for it to boot an internal hdd on the Motherboard. Hence, with some sottering u can add a hub to it.
SCPH-39001 is by far the best console, I've had mine since I bought it brand new and have never had one issue at all. I still play San Andreas on it sometimes just for fun
I have the 39001 (which is one of the original launch models). It has a crack on the bottom that exposes a portion of the heatsink. But it runs fairly quiet and reads DVDs and games perfectly.
A relative of mine has the Bravia TV and one interesting thing is that it has BIOS version 2.5 which is 2 minor versions newer than the last slims that were made. It obviously doesn't support FMCB but homebrew still runs via Swap Magic so it's possible to use Open PS2 Loader etc. The video link to the TV appears to use RGB rather than YPbPr regardless of the configuration option (in fact that might have been removed altogether, I don't remember) so 480p isn't possible. Some buttons on the TV remote could be used to control DVD playback too which was pretty neat.
The fat PS2s always had shitty laser disc drives that got dirty within months, and had to have it taken to a shop to be cleaned for the 3 years I owned that model. Never had that problem with the PS2 slim. Mine's still going strong 14 years later.
I have a 70000 model and i like it more than the bigger ones, its also lasted me longer (Still working if your curious and i still play) my friend has the big one and it lasted for about 11 years until it overheated ( Note: that's still a long time.) I am not saying all are bad, all of them are great and there is not a big performance difference between others its just the exterior, outputs, and ports, I just recommend the 70000 model. ( AWESOME VIDEO BTW)
Great, informative video! I’m looking into the 50000 series, but see that there are models that range in numbers. 50001 to 50003. Are there differences in these, such as region? Your input would be appreciated!
I have a RARE boxed Astral Blue PS2. Anything special about these - obvious minus the rare factor. Or is it just the glossy colour that makes it special.
Ps2 is still the best to me cuz its my childhood :) Also for that sensor on ps2 slim can you use any remote as long as it is universal? Or do I have to use a remote made by Sony for it to work?
WindyCornerTV I honestly didn't know their wer this many variations! I thought it was just the original big black and the slim! I am always looking out for consoles at thrift shops and I have never seen a white ps2! I have a slim but idk what variation it is! Clearly I have been lazy! Lol

They took the PS4's design from the slim PS2 design i guess and made it look better
From experience it seems the original style ps2 was very vulnerable to breaking if dropped, but my dad threw our ps2 slim at the trash can from across the kitchen and it ended up with a gash in the side but that was years ago and it still works like a charm to this day
Wtf

What does the 5000 do?
Mine works fine luckily but I was concerned.

PERKE I’m pretty sure the golden age of gaming is now or yet to come but that’s just me
@@OGKWAM idk
I feel like microtransactions ruined gaming, every game has them now before you bought the game and got the game, now you buy the game and get part of the game.

Best about Fat: can plug HDD and run backups from it, runs PSX games using PSX internal hardware (Slim uses emulation)so its like playing on PSX
Best about Slim: Dont need to buy network adapter, can run backups via ethernet from ur Pc or LAN, its more silent
Comment if you want to add more
vladi mir IIRC the older PS2 slims still had hardware compatibility.
The big PS2 looks better
Yeah, playing backups from USB HDD connected to a SOHO router over the Ethernet is awesome feature.
You can run games from a HDD on the Slim 70000 too. The 70000 coincidentally also has hardware backwards compatibility too, making the definitive best version of the PS2.
@Vegan Pete not particularly, no.
for europe lads;
If you want to go for the FAT series, here is what I learned from repairing; on 5000x series the fan is not that loud, and the optical drive is quieter somewhat too, compared to the 3000x series. However, you need to be careful not to use scratched discs in the system, because the laser controller IC has a bug, wich can result (and ofthen does!) a toasted lens. This bug can be fixed with
"romeo" mod. ( I still prefer 5000x, overall of any, if you treat it well, its gonna last.)
The slimline 7000x is not the best choice, it has several incompatibility issues with games, also its hard to find (nowdays its seems impossible) to get a properly working lens for the system.

@@leovuitton9117 I don't think so. The early PS3s can cause YLoD. (Yellow Light of Death)

Yeah I was not aware of this until after I made the video. A lot of people in the comments section have mentioned this.
the only gripes with the 70000 (as well as the 50000) is the mechacon crash (eventually resulting in the laser diode self-destructing) and the ribbon cable eventually scratching discs, they'd be perfect otherwise
5000 for HDD, 7000 for portability. 3000 has issues if it's a launch build and 9000 has no freeMCboot support if you want that.

It needs cleaning though
For 9000x models they seemed to patch the IR driver installation (first iteration ones, 30000 model), rendering fmcb useless without mod chip like matrix, modbo

Something else to consider:
The Multi-Tap to let 4 - 8 players each have their own controllers.
Some after-market multi-taps do NOT work on the Slims. The SONY multi-tap works fine.
I've got the 70K version. It's still going and it's good for those who can't afford newer consoles.
So you recorded the video and then did a voice over right?
Yeap, it allows me to produce better audio with my studio microphone, do multiple takes and avoid any ummms....or stuttering.
Plenty of hissing with your 'S' 's... Got too annoying for me
Yeah, it's why the hand gestures look kinda fake and not in sync.
The 50000 is also slightly faster at reading disks and the CPU is also 5 MHz faster but it doesn’t effect gameplay or frame-rates from what I’ve seen
I’d also suggest avoiding the old 30000 and 30000 R models because they tend not read blue bottom PS2 CDs.

Unfortunately the same thing happened to me and it nicked my copy of PAL copy Space Channel 5 Part 2.
What turns it off properly
To fix the issue just paste a piece of plastic with gorilla glue on top there’s a guide in Spanish here
I had both fat and the slim. My adivice: go for the 90000, most reliable, most silent, and the image quality is a bit better.

I think it's also worth noting that the 7000 runs hotter than the 9000, and has a metal fan (as opposed to a plastic one on the 9000) which might sound better but is actually a liability if you live in a humid place like a coastal city. It will rust and get really noisy.

deanx78 well you can fix that with new laser and ribbon cable i fixed that and i cut scissors the black laser holder that scratches the disc when you cut with scissors it will give the space with the disc running but this is my 14 year old soon in september console so it depends how you hold console the maintenance will be the key for the console but anyway i love this 70004a model that i have smooth:) have a nice day guys

The lan port is not only useful for lanparties, its also very useful for OPL SMB.
7:27 My classmate has this TV with a built-in PS2. It's not anything special though, and I'd say I prefer standalone PS2 slim over this one.
PS2 fat can be modded with HDD but PS2 slim can be modded with Mcboot memory card / sd card reader mod.
A v4 with the laser replaced by a newer laser runs great.

Thanks for this hard to find and / or often disparately sourced clarification!
The 9000x has to be better than the 7000x edition, for 2 basic reasons:
1) the fan air exiting through the side allows the heat to not interfere/conflict with the cables, avoiding burning etc, which is clever. And 2), it's more durable; I bought the 7000x edition TWICE, the 1st burned the disc driver, the 2nd's fan broke to shreds, not to mention the sound of scratching plastic when it worked on the last 3 days, before switching. All that since 2006...
gotta agree with you, I also owned both 70000 and 90000 but, the 70000 broke down because of the lense which I repaired it 3x and by the third time I had it enough, and bought 90000 which still never broke to this day
@@FrenzVorstellen Did the 7000x break every 4 years? 😝 Also how old is your 9000x now?

The Dreamcast competes with the PS1 and N64.
The Xbox is the continuation of the Dreamcast after Sega pulled the plug on their console business
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess wrong. The Dreamcast belongs to the sixth generation of consoles, it was just released (and retired) early. The Xbox was in no way a successor, but Microsoft borrowed some design cues from the Dreamcast controller though.

this answered a lot questions I couldn't find online, thank u~
and by the way I heard that 70000 model suffered from some overheating problem and the incompatibility with some PS2 games is that true?
Not that know of, none of my systems have rust.
Just bought a refurbished 90000 model thanks to this video. Thank you for the informative!
The SCPH-50000 model also has a quieter fan, progressive scan for DVDs, and support for DVD-RW and DVD+RW along with the built-in IR. It's essentially a slim in the body of a thick model (and thus can use the HDD). The SCPH-50000 is the best version you can get (unless you have the means to get the PS2 DVR).
by built-in IR you mean the gran turismo link feature he was showing?
@@dropapi No, the IR reciever is for a remote. Do not confuse it with I-Link
POMARAŃCZOWE TICO Got it now thanks
My SCPH50001 has no iLink or the IR for the remote.
@@micahj9828 how is that possible if you don't mind me asking?
Just saw this.
My PS2 Slim (US) SCPH-70012 (looks like yours with the shiny band and two dull top surfaces)
The difference (externally) is it has an RJ11 modem input in addition to RJ45 ethernet, optical out, AV multi out and.... that wonderful external power supply that can work worldwide.
Another great part of the PS2's with an external power block - heat removed from the system helps keep the unit running longer / cooler.
That and if the power supply breaks, you just buy another one.
I mean I knew all this, but it's nice to randomly stumble on a video with another Aussie on it.
Nice to know I'm not the only one with multiple PS2s... though that being said my 50k is my love.
Gday and good luck with future videos mate!
I'm surprised you didn't bring up thr TOOL PlayStation, they're great if you want to play imports or download ROMS of unfinished games.
Game Systems that Ozzies can't wank? (Sorry couldn't resist) I always wanted the TEST PS2, but the only one I could find, the guy wanted $500AUD for it.
Try looking on the UK eBay, they normally come up for about £150 here. There's an Aussie guy on YT called Freako who collects them too
Larry Bundy Jr Would you happen to know if the 70000 ps2 model can play Japanese games???
What's the tool playstation 2 version I never heard about that one🤔
@All things Laundry I'm not sure what your talking about please explain what you mean🤔
Great video! Is there any way you could do a comparison of the performance differences between the 70K and the 90K? I'm pretty sure the 90K actually loads games the fastest which makes it more ideal for things like speedruns.
Nice job. Those consoles are spotless.
Thanks for your compliment, I took the liberty of pulling apart each console and giving the chassis a good scrub. Glad it shows in the video.
@@WindyCornerTV So many people leave their consoles dirty in the video. It's like taking a video showing off your dirty living room.
I have the 7000 have had it since 2006 still works amazing. Edit:70000
I got mine bro in 2005 its scph-70004a
I highly recommend the PS2 Slim series because the PS2 Slim is a top-loading PS2 which means you won't be dealing with automatic slot-loading disc drives eating up your discs. Like the original fat PS2 models, the PS2 Slim models are backwards-compatible with your PS1 and PS2 game discs and PS1 and PS2 memory cards.
20 years later never knew you could turn the logo
5:00 bulshh... how come power supply determines game region lock / unlocks ?
its just a power supply and that's all !
SCPH-39001 is by far the best console, I've had mine since I bought it brand new and have never had one issue at all. I still play San Andreas on it sometimes just for fun
SAME! MODEL&GAME
When you aren't playing San Andreas just for fun, what is your purpose for playing it?
3:14 The IR Reciever is between the power and eject buttons!
I got my ps2 in 2005 and now, 15 years later, I can finally turn the Playstation logo the right way 🤣😂 I never knew that wow
1:48-1:54.; What did you mean by "noisy" at that part, exactly?...
The audio is not clear and hears like in a cardboard box
I have the 39001 (which is one of the original launch models). It has a crack on the bottom that exposes a portion of the heatsink. But it runs fairly quiet and reads DVDs and games perfectly.
I got my PS2 since 2004, and just now i discover that PS logo can be rotated
You didn’t say anything about the internals, graphics card upgrades etc?
I figured that’s what it was mostly going to be about, but apparently not!
My first PS2 was Slim model. Specifically the 70000 model back in 2006. I'll never forget the day my dad bought it.
I've got a slim 70k ps2 and it's still my fav console! It's so easy to jump into games compared to all newer consoles and size is so compact!
I happen to own two PS2 Slims, and I wonder if they are special since the numbers afterwards are low. One for example is 70001 and the other is 70012
The fat PS2s always had shitty laser disc drives that got dirty within months, and had to have it taken to a shop to be cleaned for the 3 years I owned that model. Never had that problem with the PS2 slim. Mine's still going strong 14 years later.
I’ve had a SCPH-70003 since 2005 and it still works fine
i have the 7000 "slim". ive always wondered what that glass square on the bottom right front was. hm.
We´ve bought a FAT model somewhere in the very early 2000, so either 30000 or 50000 :D Now I have it in my room :D
Softmodded SCPH-30000 here with a 200GB HDD. There are third-party adapters which use SATA drives :)
Or is it just the glossy colour that makes it special.
my teachers: so what did you learn
me: PS2 LOGO TWISTS!!!!!!!!!!
I think I have the 50004 model?(europe)
It's pretty good I bought it back in 2003 and it works like charm :P
Ps2 is still the best to me cuz its my childhood :)
Also for that sensor on ps2 slim can you use any remote as long as it is universal? Or do I have to use a remote made by Sony for it to work?
The LAN can be used to to play backups of your games.
I say buy all of them! They are relatively cheap!
I like the way you think.
WindyCornerTV I honestly didn't know their wer this many variations! I thought it was just the original big black and the slim! I am always looking out for consoles at thrift shops and I have never seen a white ps2! I have a slim but idk what variation it is! Clearly I have been lazy! Lol
rehab joe buffet yeah dude I saw a 7000 model at a hock shop for $34 :D
Where can I find them cheap
what do you mean by cheap? a new one is 150€ each!
