This is gold, as a marine biologist i can confirm that all anglerfish are constantly emenating this song. I would love to see a similar song for the angler's colorful, dopey cousins the Frogfish.
It sounds terrifying and ethereal at the same time. Which fits with the giant angler fish. Like, imagine seeing one in person. It would be scary, but you might also feel awe.
I love how different this song feels. There is a lot that goes into how a song feels in the ears and is interpreted by the brain, and many of those things are rarely explored in music. Certain textures, frequencies, phases, panning configurations, and a bunch of other things are neglected and occasionally even avoided because they're out of the norm or sound "bad" if not utilized well. This song plays with so many of those in ways I haven't heard in a very long time, and it's very pleasing to the senses. I love your work, Louie. Thank you for your contributions to art, I hope you continue to inspire generations of artists and composers to expand their compositional horizons and do new and unexpected things with the world of sound. Experimentation makes art thrive.
This is perfect setting ambience music! I’m doing a, Percy Jackson inspired and beach summer camp themed, D&D lite campaign at the library for kids/teens.
I feel like I've just stepped out of a bathosphere into the ocean of a far off planet, and the first thing I see is a gaint anglerfish queen. Familiar and yet completely foreign. Absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for introducing me to this instrument. You've inspired me to create, once more, a videogame. I usually get inspired by movies, other games, random things, and music, too. Hearing this just gave me an idea about the atmosphere, the gameplay, the style, etc. for my game. Keep creating cool and original stuff, I always enjoy hearing and see your stuff.
Now I’m going to think about this every time my friend and I are making an inside joke about that one sketch in a radio show You always do this, every time you post I know something in my brain is going to get another level of obscurity weirder And I’m fine with that
Amazing as a final or near-final area theme; I can hear this as the player descends further, sinking deeper, finally crossing over from the abyssal zone to the hadal zone. The anglerfish queen sees you off, having just bested her in combat and earned her trust and support as she opens the gates to Hadal. The darkness somehow grows impossibly darker, the light of her lantern lure the last speck of light from above, yet that too is fading fast. Around you the darkness shifts and wavers, shapes that might just be tricks of the light or examples of deep sea gigantism pass by. Your headlamp, the only spot of light in the stretched darkness does little for vision, but occasionally it catches on something smooth and pale, there and gone again. Tentacles, crustacean claws, rows of endless teeth, fins and cat-shine eyes. The player whips their head to and fro, the water trembling with the rumble of an approaching colossus. Paranoia has them in its grips. An act of sabotage, or perhaps one of desperate self preservation, they reach up and turn off the light. Some things are best left in the dark. :)
Very game-y, as others have commented. I hear this as the zone theme for an undersea metroidvania, probably specifically an alien one. Queen Anglerfish is naturally the zone boss
i really liked the sound that went blblblblbblsblsblwrblwrblwrbwlr what was your favorite sound when you made this (1:53 for reference to my sound if it wasnt obvious but i think it was)
Does anyone know this? A couple years ago I remember listening to a song that this channel reminded me of. It was by a woman and the songs had like messy drawn rooms as art for the video, and one of them had lyrics containing something like "self reflecting at an intersection ... interjection ... introspection". And it also had a title like "please don't hurt me" or something or "please dont leave me". I remember listening to it in the same playlist as Louie Zong so I assume there's some overlap
YOU NEED TO WRITE MUSIC FOR AN INDIE GAME
TOAD IN THE HOLE
If I’m not mistaken Louie has indeed composed for a few games!
This elates me 😮❤!@@Quaxophone
He's composing for the indi game of his life 🔥🔥🔥
Outer Wilds players scuttle to the corner in primal fear, shaking, crying
that planet was the reason I havent finished OW
outer wilds mentioned ‼
Glonky song, love it
Never heard the word glonky used to describe something before I like it
Glonkin’
glonky as a mf
Nice to hear something glonk in a sea of glippy music
yep, that’s what an anglerfish sounds like
Honestly a lot less devious and creepy sounding than I would expect from an anglerfish. I guess she's a good queen lol.
Wait until phase 2 😂😅👀👀
@@RatEmperorthe queen has the range…nuances

Angler fish aren’t inherently evil and can be quite beautiful. They look a little odd, but they’re also beautiful.

i liked when it went waaw wawwa wawaaww
that's a nice part

This would be perfect for an underwater exploration game
Yes, like a part where you've just discovered a wreck for the first time and you have to explore it to find the whatever to fix your whatever.
Ever since Outer Wilds I've never seen anglerfish the same 😱.
Great song!
The melody feels "underwater level" but the syth adds an electricity vibe. Very thematic and works great together!

I love this undersea vibe you've been going for recently... the dark ocean has long since fascinated me and I'm pleased it's intrigued you as well!!
So glorby, zoppity and glumbly... love it
so crunchy sounding - good mouth feel for a song
You know she has a Fantastic Planet poster
"The kingdom is gone, yet the bones remain"
God the sonar like lead rhythm is so good
You have NO idea how much this and Church of Whalefall have inspired me lately for my game project. Ty so much for making such incredible things ❤❤
I LOVE MORT GARSON... THANK YOU LOUIE... THIS IS AWESOME...

ANGLE THY FISH
ANGLE FISH!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🌙🌙🌙✨✨✨✨🙏🙏🙏
So spooky and mysterious, and yet... Round? I can just picture a whole 16 bit dialogue sequence with the angler queen telling a story
That is exactly what an angler fish would sound like

Man, getting a Matriarch has been a bucket list item for years now. This is so rad.
I swear, he has all the coolest toys. I was wondering what synth this was made with. Sounds killer.
It's her

Song is genuinely so good, been looping it to draw to!

I have the notification bell ticked, but I got no notification when this masterpiece came out!
LOUIE ZONG SONG ABOUT FISH I LOVE!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!! THE ANGLERFISH ITSELF LOOKS COOL TOO :-D
sounds like some dope raps about to be laid on top - this would be a hell of a backing track
I have a character inspired by both a payphone and an anglerfish who this would be PERFECT for!
Gotta love these late night releases😊
I'd love a whole album off that moog!
a wonderful song for my favorite fish.....
incredible, i love the instrumentation
"Hey VSAUCE, Michael here ... "
That’s about how big I thought angler fish were as a kid lol
I’m praying this ends up on Apple Music like how moon jelly theme did
It's giving the vibe of the magnus archive+the adventure zone
Quiet upbeat than expected but still gives off the perfect vibe and the reverb just solidifies the eerie vibe
i truly love this song
Gives me scary animal crossing vibes, I love it.
Yeah, I can see it being something like 'K.K. Halloween'
I get Castlevania mixed with Stranger Things, old school Sonic the Hedgehog and Echo the Dolphin 💙
I just know Papa Roanoke hears this every time he enters a body of water
Very game-y, as others have commented. I hear this as the zone theme for an undersea metroidvania, probably specifically an alien one. Queen Anglerfish is naturally the zone boss

Truly one of the greatest moments in Thalassiquest (PS1)
really gives of the feeling that you’re not supposed to be there
theme of a peaceful scrunko
Reminds me a bit of mort garson's ataraxia in certain moments :)
I need a mashup with this and Hank Green's "A Song About an Anglerfish"
I'm addicted.
