i love the interviews honestly, Serie's smile at Wirbel view on magic is so eerie i love it. And can we talk about Land for a second? That guy went to meet possibly the most powerful mage that ever lived, and the first thing he does is trying to troll her, and when he gets called out, he doubles down on the troll 🤣 Serie kinda liked it tho, cheeky youngsters are up her alley it seems, in the end she was quite kind to the applicants.
His response was also realy interesting when he was called out about it "I'm suprised. Not even Übel noticed". Frieren, Sense, Fern all of them meet him during the test and none of them sensed it, yet he said Übel like he placed her above the others.
@@lucykaede3663 well i would assume he mentioned Ubel cause they were together a lot. i'm not sure Frieren even met Land at all actually, and Fern is still young. Ubel also has very sharp intuition. It's interesting that he thinks he can trick Serie considering humans are aware she knows every spell in history too :D
@@luigimanzelli3786 I don't think it matter how much time they spend together, with this logic the 1st class mages should able to call out Serie mana supresion but the one who did was Fern on 1st glance. You either sense it instant or not, time have nothing to do with it. Magic system in Frieren is based on visualization and intuition and we know Übel exceed in both, well she lack a lot in other areas like common sense but that is why we like her she is the wild card 😅
Himmel epitomizes what Gandalf say in The Hobbit :“I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.”
The last scene with Himmel turning his back with the cape is the same we see in his funeral. Only after this scene Frieren started crying realizing that they won't see each other again, so she won't be embarrassed . She remembered the "embarrassing line " on Himme's funeral. Such scenes is why I was over the moon when I realized Keiichirou Saitou is returning back as a DIR for 2nd season - those were not in the manga.

I'm obsessed with this show. I think it's as near perfect as any type of entertainment can get. One of the most amazing features is how it makes you attached to characters even if they have had hardly any screen time. Himmel in episode 1 of course, but also, for example, Laufen with her love of donuts and her attachment to Denken, and Methode -who I really like, but I'm not even sure why! Thank you for this watch along, I've really enjoyed it.
Every time I hear a reaction where the person says they’ve never heard the term “bumper crop”, I feel so very old and die a little more inside….lol…..😂……can’t wait to watch season two….

Ubel immediately passed because she loves to battle and uses magic for fighting and killing without mercy. If you remember correctly, serie love that kind of mage.
I think it's also her unique ability and outlook. I wonder if she can benefit from the privilege though, she says she can't use spells from people she can't empathize with so if Serie gives her one can she use it?
You'll have fun rewatching it and looking at the characters from the starting point kneejerk thoughts about them. Because so many were bait and switch and felt untrustworthy and had alterior motives...and they all wound up being so chill or quirky but not inherently evil, especially during the exams. not sure if you already know it but Himmel means Sky/Heaven in german, that fits perfectly because she wants to visit him in "heaven" and she is often staring into the sky while talking about him.

We have only really seen strong mages, the weakest we have seen is third class, but third class who are taking the first class exam.
