Same. I don't watch too many reaction videos, Frieren is an exception. There are a few episodes that I love checking peoples reactions. This show is just different.
A cool little detail is that if you watch carefully, during the montage where 50 years pass between the two meteor showers, you can see Frieren go to the same magic shop a couple of times and the clerk starts out as a kid and is shown to be a older every time she goes back until he's a middle aged man in the final scene when the montage ends and he tells her he doesn't have any Shadow Dragon horns in stock.
The highest rated anime of all time and for good reason. Frieren is one of the most tasteful forms of media I have consumed in a long, long time. It’s just so damn pretty and filled to the brim with raw emotion and it has a lot of repeat value since there’s a shit ton of hidden meanings & imagery in damn near every frame of every episode. It’s one of those shows where you have to really pay extra attention to visual storytelling and what the characters say.
Yeah, I've watched so many reactions to this episode, and I've never seen anyone acknowledge that the last meteor flickering out is telling us Himmel has died. There are so many things the show is telling the audience without ever actually telling them.
Not to disparage Frieren, but the whole highest rating is because this show has a much smaller sample size of ratings than that of FMA: Brotherhood. Which obviously make sense considering FMA:B was released in 2009. So, it's possible that over the same period of time, as more people watch and the sample size becomes as large as that of Brotherhood, its rating stabilizes under that of FMA which would regain its spot as the highest rated anime. Regardless of which one is #1 and which is #2 though, both are excellent shows.
8:36 I saw someone else jokingly commenting about Himmel's osteoporosis height loss and attributed it to being radiation poisoned by the shadow dragon horn and I've never been able to get the joke out of my head 😂😂😂😂
@@axelord4ever its not odd at all. that's exactly how you'd describe a stand-offish teenager, which is exactly how Frieren appears in the early scenes.
@@axelord4ever yes, especially when everyone else is jovial. you are angsty as well right now, which explains why you're having such a hard time understanding it.
You just discovered the pinnacle of Anime. A story I wish I could forget, just to experience it again - a journey that will be hard to surpass anytime soon❤
Himmel didn't shrink so as much as he was hunched over. He was a physical attacker as the Hero, his body would have taken a lot of damage during battles. Just like irl, those who do the most physical/hardest jobs in life tend to suffer the most as they age. Unlike those who are physically fit from working out or exercise, hard physical labor may make you look fit in your youth but it takes a terrible toll on you. Exercise is light in comparison... This is why a strong farm hand vs a bodybuilder will in many cases be able to lift and carry more, it's almost like a different kind of muscle is developed.
@RapidmangoReacts Fun fact, the word "Frieren" is a german word for the feeling of being cold or chilled, enfrieren is something freezing. Dandadan is the Japanese onomatopoeia for drama/tension, like us going dun dun DUUNNN.
Just 15 minutes into the show, you'll be moved like a movie. It gets even more interesting from there, so I hope you'll watch until the end. The original manga on which this anime is based has won a major award, but a similarly awarded work called "Orb: On the Movements of the Earth" has also been made into an anime and is now on air, so I recommend you check that out too.
Heiter lived for much longer because he was the healer, the most powerful healer in the world, and worked for the church afterwards, Himmel was still an active adventurer basically until he died
I don't think it's ever confirmed, but the theory I've heard that makes sense to me is that the evil aura from the shadow dragon horn is why Himmel aged so much faster. There weren't immediately obvious negative effects but it added up over time.
@TarundiMC it may have but it's never been confirmed, also like I said these things are verifiable and make sense, I honestly don't get people obsession with the horn it's never been mentioned again even in the Manga, it's like the heroes sword, I guess people always gotta have a macguffin even if there isn't one or that's not the point
@@Scyon13 It's not really important but it's fun to have fan theories. Just like with the Goddess, I can't prove the theory, but it'd be more convenient if it's true :)
Glad you've chosen my favorite anime of 2023 (together with apothecary diaries), the most melancholic and (in its own way) the most "nostalgic" anime of the 2020's in my opinion.
@@EtopiaCA don't worry, I am not offended. TBH, I knew something was off with my wording but I left it as is. Nostalgia is a feeling (obviously), but as a secondary definition, something is nostalgic if it induces that feeling. It's a bit personal but my father retired to another country, there is a specific episode in Freinen that reminds me of the time we used to see each other almost every day, hence the comment...
@@EtopiaCA Nostalgia can be triggered by external events that you may not have personally experienced, but which remind you of things in your own life. For example, this series made me nostalgic for other fantasy anime I saw when I was younger, such as _Record of Lodoss War_ and _Slayers._ It's a reflection of personal memories.
There are dozens of shows or songs, images or texts that makes me feel nostalgic for moments I've never lived, homesick for places I've never been, etc. Can't gatekeep feelings.
the story is about what happens after the heroes' journey ends, following their victory over the Demon King. It explores life beyond the adventure, what lies ahead after the epic quest is complete. Hence the title, Beyond Journey's End. Frieren is the only anime in a long time that has gotten me excited each week, eagerly waiting for the next episode. Before this, I had been pretty much burned out on anime for many years because I had watched so many of them - probably over 1,000 (I've been watching anime continuously for almost 20 years). This burnout was especially due to most anime following the same repetitive tropes. Even now, with popular anime like My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Solo Leveling, and Demon Slayer, etc. which many people get hyped about, I can't bring myself to finish them because of how many generic tropes they include. It makes sense, though; why change the formula if it still works and makes money? But for me, I usually can't even get past two or three episodes before I get bored and stop watching. That’s why I’m so happy that Frieren somehow reignited my joy for watching anime.
Congratulations. You're about to embark on a 28 episode journey full of emotional highs and lows about how to move on, how to grow, and how to try to understand others. It's become my favorite anime, and it may end up becoming yours. Some notes: -Frieren is played by Atsumi Tanezaki. Other recent roles of note are Anna Forger in _SPY X FAMILY_ and Gyokuyou in _The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto,)_ both series I would highly reccommend you try once you finish this one. -Fern is played by Kana Ichinose, whose prior roles include Yuzuriha Ogawa from the _Dr. Stone_ series, and Suletta Mercury from _Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury,_ two more shows you should add to your watchlist. -Himmel is played by Nobuhiko Okamoto, whose prior credits include Kai from _Beastars,_ Garfiel Tinsel from _Re:Zero_ and Katsuki Bakugou from _My Hero Academia,_ and guess what i have to say about those shows. >_< -Heiter is played by Hiroki Touchi, a venerable VA with a long list of credits that will have that watchlist grow like my waisline after a Thanksgiving dinner. -Eisen is played by Youji Ueda, who is like Mr. Touchi in that his career is just chock full of watchlist material. -The music composer is Evan Call, who's most notable work prior to this was the soundtrack for _Violet Evergarden,_ and when you watch that one make sure to stop by Costco for the extra large pack of Kleenex. -Lastly, the director for the series is Keiichirou Saitou, who has a long list of episode credits for numerous series, but only one other Series Director credit: Bocchi the Rock. And of all the suggestions I've given you, this is the one at the top of my list. Have fun!
Dont be suprised about the pronouncation of the names. They are all german. Frieren=freezing, Fern= Far (away), Eisen= Iron, Himmel (Heaven or Sky) etc.
I'll never get tired of watching everyone reacting to the first episode of this anime and bawling their eyes out near the end.
I call episode one "10 minutes and I'm already crying" as its unofficial title. Because its almost always true.
And, as always, I bawl right along with them.
Me too hope to see you later on other channels for this show.

Always a blast watching peoples reaction to the first ep of Frieren. The more emotionally open the bigger the reactions XD
I think that Frieren is the exact opposite of "angsty"! I think you will really enjoy this anime. It's pretty incredible.
You've seen the entire show, of course you're gonna feel that way compared to just being introduced to the character.

Just for context, elves in this series are nearly ageless, 10 years for her can very well be like a day for a regular human.
The shrinking of anime characters when they get old is a very common anime trope
The whiplash yall are going to have between Frieren and Dandadan is going to be INTENSE lmao
