The fact it took her this long for her to realize that Himmel confessed his feelings towards Frieren is tragic, it must be really hard to be part of a race that lives three times longer than humans knowing that you’ll outlive everyone who you held dear to you as friends. I can’t even imagine it…
Hence why Frieren was so distant. She was protecting herself from unnecessary pain which actually turns out to be very valuable as she changes into better person because of that.
I can kinda understand Frieren when you think about it from her perspective. Imagine a new race popped up on earth. Same as us but they only lived 1 month. Would you become friends or emotionally attached with any of them? For my own mental health I don't think I would.
