hes an insanely good drummer (rip) but sadly I think he just couldnt make the speed cut. in technicality of playing, hes definitely one of the greats
not even close to the guys in this video...also, being very technical and all that, he had issues with his fast kicks, if you listen to live recordings, he wasn´t clean enough even using triggers

LegionIsONE I’m aware that it’s difficult to find a good drummer which is why I want to shoutout bands that can find good drummers who can also play fast. I’m also not trying to put down bands that use drum machines, some of my favorite bands have used them, I just want to celebrate good drummers.

@@BrandonSpendlove Suffocation has some of the fastest drumming out there, even when performing live. Loudwire just didn’t show a good example.
With the exception of mike mangini and most of what Marco minneman does, all those drummers were from extreme metal. No one disagrees that slipknot has got some fast tunes. But one of the defining attributes of death metal is extreme speed, most genres can’t touch that shit. Except like bebop jazz.

Yes, musicality is another thing. Sometimes you don't need 800 notes per second, sometimes you need a Phil Rudd-groove.
But it's still impressive…
I'd also throw in "Sugarfoot" Moffet.
They can do all that, it's not like they are going at 250+ bpm the whole time. I mean they missed one of the fastest drummers in extreme metal which is John Longstreth from Origin and he started as a jazz drummer, seeing that guy play is like watching someone win an olympia gold medal. Can be fast as fuck but always on an impressive technical level with lots of little details and he can play jazz slow down as well, but people like Phil Rudd and Moffet can probably not play the extreme stuff he does.

Saw the title...first thing that came to mind was infant annihilator.
Bet it was disappointing when you noticed Aaron's motions and cymbal reactions and even his hair movement was unnatural due to the fact the video is very noticeably sped up.

I immediately thought infant annihilator too. The video is definently not sped up lol. But the thing is with him is that he has triggers set to full velocity every hit. Every tiny flutter of a bass drum hit registers as a full blown power stroke. Notice how close his grouping is to the bass drum head when he does high tempo bass. Hes about an Inch away. That's not normal lol, it is spliced together for recording too but alot of people do that. Anyway case and point his hits are fake, if you took that trigger away he wouldn't even be heard so hes not nearly as fast as he sounds. A ton of drummers use bass triggers but hes the only one I know of that actually exploits the shit out of them like this guy

However... If I had a dime for every 'far out death metal' listener I've encountered who considers the likes of Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Pestilence, Entombed, Carcass, Dismember, Atheist, and Cynic as 'super obscure heavy shit for true headbangers', I'd have quite a bit of money. Nowadays, you get the same thing with the major deathcore groups and some of the slam stuff. Oh, and should I mention how many of these jokers don't even know Obituary?
Amongst people that REALLY know, no, Cryptopsy are a well-known and respected band. But there be some serious ass-clowns about.
I was going to be outraged if Flo Mounier didn't appear on this video, I was not disappointed. His drum performance on None So Vile is one of the greatest in the history of death metal.

watched Mike live with Steve Vai back in 2002. It was a very small Arena in Istanbul. So the band and crowd was pretty close. People loved him so much, kept chanting his name. Fair to say that he stole the show from Vai. Amazing guy.
Hearing Cryptopsy for the first time in the early 2000's, I really thought I would never hear anything that fast and intense and skilled ever again. Blew my mind and melted my face.

I was about to ask where the bloody hell Dave Lombardo is, then I realised he isn’t ranked for his speed, he’s ranked for his talent. So fair enough!
Good call. In fact 2 of the fastest drummers not to blast beat are him and Charlie Benante. If you listen to Necrophobic by Slayer and Imitation of Life by Anthrax they're the same tempo using 4 in a bar hats/ride rather than alternate sticking which you can go faster with but is technically 'easier' - its still not bloody easy!

Francesco is insane. I remember seeing them with Kataklysm and I didn't think I was going to like them as it isn't really my style but damn.... that energy they got going on in live gigs is insane. The drums really hit like a damn sledgehammer to the chest. It's amazing and one of the most impressive drummers I've seen live.

@@reneelisardo9502 I think Aaron Kitcher's a good drummer, and he's capable of playing complicated stuff. But I don't think he's able to play that kind of stuff at 300bpm, and if you look at the video, you can see that it doesn't really look real
