One thing that they didn’t mention during the entire ‘side’ sleeping position spiel is that if your mattress is soft enough to let your hip and shoulder sink in, you don’t need all of those random pillows everywhere. Just a big one under your head and maybe one between your knees. A lot of ppl think firm and extra firm etc, but if you are a side sleeper and have wide shoulders and / or hips, a soft mattress really helps.

I am an 81 yr old long term happy side sleeper. My lower spine issues, at 46, prevented any other option. I used body pillows to hug and separate my knees but often one would fall off the bed. I recently bought a u-shaped "pregnancy" pillow and it is a dream!!! I got one long enough to support my feet and removed some pillow area fill so my head wasn't too high. In my queen size bed, it still gives me room to sit on the edge of the mattress before rolling over it. Your video was great.

I can't sleep on my back, either. I have a nasty accident a few decades back and had to have major surgery on my abdomen. Recovery meant lying on my back for two weeks... I couldn't sleep a wink. If you need someone to stay awake to keep watch, I'm your man. If I just lie on my back, I will be wide awake all night, no matter how tired I am. I'm a side sleeper who rotates about every 2 hours after a restroom break. The shoulder point hurting has been experienced on and off all my adult life. I do sometimes use a between the knees or a long back pillow or scrunch up the blanket. This allows me to roll back to a better spot off the point of the shoulder.
My resolve to not buying the special curved pillow is to scrunch up the longer end under my neck, therefore creating less gap in my neck. I use 2 Serta Extra Firm pillows, always or in the past regular store pillows.

I used to sleep on my stomach comfortably when younger. Now that I'm in my 50s, and if I fall asleep on my stomach, I wake up with a pretty bad headache. It does go away eventually, but you guys have confirmed it's this position that's the cause. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Hi Lola. The sleep demon, like all demons are called 'shaytan jinn' in Islam or just 'jinn' in context.
To remove or block them, use these steps. Muslims practise these traditions dating back to the Prophet Muhammad and they do not have sleep paralysis/demons, unless they forget to do the below.
      1. Make sure there's no food crumbs in your bed.
      2. Have a shower if you've had intercourse.
      3. Its important to take only 2 sleeping positions. Your right side or back. Never on your left or tummy. (Too long to explain).
      4. Before hopping into bed, say "I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed". It doesn't matter if you're not religious, you only have to acknowledge The Creator of man and universe with His Arabic name. (Fyi Allah = Al-ilah = The God). All you need to grasp is God is One, He has no partners or offspring. Keep repeating it sincerely and with awareness until you fall asleep.
      5. If you're able to additionally learn the phrase in Arabic its a bonus.
"A`oodhu billahi min ash-shaytaanir rajeem". Pronunciation is on UA-cam. But not absolutely necessary.
You may also use this statement in everyday activities to keep jinn from interfering with you.
      Take care, all the best.

1:00 The trick for that is to take the other person out of the statement to see if it still makes sense. As in "If you know Brad and me/I" you remove Brad from the statement. Then the statement becomes "If you know I" or "If you know me". So in this case the correct answer is obviously "If you know Brad and me".

To aid me in sleeping on the side, I bought a pillow that has a slight pyramid shape, which means that when the topped side of the pillow is down, it tracks into the area between head and shoulder. I have never had such a wonderfully comfy pillow, bought it at IKEA of all places.

I started sleeping on my back a few years ago. It took some getting used to but I can sleep that way reasonably well now, though I still prefer my side and mostly my left side. Ribs are actually flatter on that side which is why I taught myself to sleep on my right side. Then I had shoulder problems so learnt to sleep on my back while I was working on strengthening the muscles supporting the joint. Took a couple of years but I had good results after about six months. Shoulders are pretty good now. I lift and had neglected my shoulders too much. Now I work them a lot.

As a side sleeper I always had a "sore" lower shoulder but leaning back slightly as you said helped a lot. I tuck another foam pillow behind me to help support the angle and it's the most comfortable sleeping position I've ever found. I also added a latex topper to my bed so that it gives a little more under that shoulder. It's very cozy in the winter but can get a little hot to sleep with all of those pillows in the summer :) Finally found a latex pillow that is deep enough to support my head properly. Thanks for the great ideas!

I use three My Pillow travel pillows for my ankles, knees and a cuddle one to rest my arm on. I use the regular My pillow for my head as it supports my head with no pressure points - I used to wake up with a sore ear and it cured my TMJ. I also warm a wheat bag every night for my feet. The good thing also is that they squish into my suitcase for travel and they fluff right up again. They also are perfect for the beach and travel - I take them everywhere.

    • @Joycer2002
      @Joycer2002 2 роки тому +4

@@ryoungerman7493 first of all I caused my TMJ by severe stress and yelling - I was out shoveling snow and yelled at the top of my lungs ( someone had totally stressed me out) the stress, cold and extreme muscle contraction caused me to get lock jaw - I could not open or close my mouth - what an experience. I went to bed and tried to relax but this lockjaw lasted two days - I could not even brush my teeth. This condition lasted off and on for months. About that time I saw an add for My Pillow and thought it was worth a try. It gave me full support and no pressure points on my jaw. My previous pillow was microfiber and fairly firm... so sinking my jaw into a soft but supportive pillow as I am a side sleeper gave me such comfort. It took two years of off and on problems and no help from the doctors for me to try and resolve the pain on my own. I also used warm wheat bags to relieve the stressed out muscles of my jaw. At this point I could still not even go to the dentist and open my mouth without it locking up and being in pain. The pillow helped me relax and allowed me to align my jaw. To this day this is the only pillow that does not put my jaw back into pain and lockjaw mode. I am also careful now not to also do anything to irritate my jaw - I avoid eating hard to chew or excessive chewing as in peanuts, gum or steak. I try to not grit my teeth or yell... they all cause pain and disable my jaw. A warm wheat bag helps relax things but I am also be careful to avoid stress. I used to always wake up with a very sore red ear... since My Pillow and no pressure points my ear problem has also been solved.

Hello Bob & Brad, thanks for sharing this, it explains some of the reasons of my shoulder and elbow pain. I'll try to make that canal next evening for sideways sleeping.
About the prone sleeping: sometimes I can get to sleep more easily if I turn to my stomach. But when I started to use this position, I immediately used the pillow under my face in a little pushed aside position. (I have been positioning the pillow under my forehead, and my half face, so with only a little head turn I can easily breathe.) Then pretty soon I realized that my spine is still strained in this position, so I started to use a pillow under my trunk, that has been keeping my spine in a relaxed position. The only thing to be careful about is not keeping my arm in a position that pushes my shoulder joint to its end range. And one more thing that makes sleeping in prone position more comfortable: to keep my feet over the edge of the bed, so my ligaments in my feet wouldn't be strained.
Other thing: when I sleep sideways, I put a pillow between my knees, to keep my hip joint in a more relaxed position (this I started when I was a child, I always tucked my cover between my knees, just because this was more comfortable.) And when I sleep on my back, I put a pillow under my knee bend, so my knee joint wouldn't be strained, and for the same reason I keep my heels over the edge of the bed.

David Helseth me too. I sleep with no pillow also, and get no headaches nor any neck or joint pain.

Me too. although I'm not "that" old yet. But there's nothing finer than some nice stomach pressure against the bed. Its like getting a hug all night long.

David Helseth same lol. I go to sleep on my stomach but I wake up on my back. It’s the only way I’ll fall asleep lol

Many thanks to you both. In the UK it's very hard to get this kind of help, so it's very much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

After watching you guys torpedo every position of sleep,.....I've decided that sleeping is not only painful,...but DANGEROUS,.....I have therefore decided to STOP SLEEPING ALTOGETHER,......I've been awake for two years now,....AND I FEEL GREAT,....I have lots of extra time,....I eat six meals a day,....and I no longer have any pain of any sort,!!!!!
Thanks for all your zany and wonderful suggestions,.....oh, and by the way,....I never dream anymore, and NEVER HAVE ANYMORE NIGHTMARES,..!!!!! Thank you...!!!!

Hi Bob and Brad! Thank you so much for all the content you upload for us! You're doing massive help to the world. Also, in your giveaway entry, do people have to follow all the instructions? (I.e. watch Tik Tok, follow Fb and Ig Page, etc.)

Lemme know when science reveals the secret to "changing your sleep position while you're ASLEEP and NOT CONSCIOUS enough to do anything about what position your body apparently finds comfortable in that moment". That's the video I need. I know I don't sleep in good positions. But it's hard enough to change habits when you're awake! How do you change habits while you're unconscious???

Simply Saida my body tends to rl to my back on its own. I guess it doesn't like stomach sleeping all night long, all night, all night. All night long... But you make a great point. You can start off in a safe position and your body is going to do whatever it wants while you sleep.

I don’t move either in my sleep.. but i’m also a lucid dreamer so i can swap between my dream body and my awake body but if i change position irl i will instantly wake up so usually i just ignore any cramps or pains i get.. 2 days ago i had a huge leg/hip cramp but was in the middle of a pretty nice dream so i just ignored it despite even reacting to it in my dream and the person i was with in the dream literally going: you okay? And me just going yep just a leg cramp.. lucid dreaming is wack sometimes 😂😂

I love sleeping on my right side but quite often have a sore left shoulder in the morning. This video was helpful and made me aware of how I position my left arm.
