  • I was Finally able to put together a video to officially show UA-cam my 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ. This Jeep embodies my ambition to create an XJ that could roll off the assembly line in the present day. This Cherokee has most of my favorite custom 1 off XJ mods that I have developed over a decade time of owning Cherokees. Hope you enjoy!

      Mine blew up at 152k. Shot at least 2 rods and had 3 holes in the block and 2 in the oil pan. I'm assuming the owner before me didnt take good care of the motor, but I put in a high output engine with 120k miles and it runs beautifully.

    Hi Dan I forgot to ask. If you were to do it again would you go the sand blasting route? Asking for a friend... I probably have a bit more rust than you at least 1 floor pan replacement and a patch job on a frame rail in the rear where the tow hitch attached to pass side. I've always imagined attacking the rest with flap disc but if sand is easier then I'm thinking of giving it a shot.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  5 років тому +1

      Sean.. It was brutal... I was covered with sand... in my eyes, ears, nose, even though I was completely sealed up. I did use a flap disk and wire wheel where I could, but some spots were easier reached with the blasting. Hope this helps your decision.

      @@seanmacdonald8476 definitely get a full faced respiratory and Safety goggles (not glasses). One of those tyvex suits would have been great since your laying under the jeep and all the sand (or whatever medium you choose) falls back onto you. You also should have plenty of nozzles for the gun. I think I went through 5 porcelain nozzles.

    Hey Dan beautiful XJ you do really nice work....... When it comes to getting rust in check pour 15 is a beautiful thing I do use it... My primary weapon of choice to stop and slow rust down completely ,,,,, is a product called , fluid film or woolwax,,,,, I got this stuff on the bottom of my WJ rust has come to a screeching halt,,, I'm sure your research it here on UA-cam... Keep up the good videos excellent camera work good content...

Install 96 pistons or buy speed pro with the wide ring lands..... 100s of thousands of the 2000 4.0s have already blown up or are knocking. Not many go much passed 125k While all other years of the 4.0 are still happy at the 300k mark.. Just something Chrysler wanted to do so as to justify deleting the best engine ever made....

    And if you want to get more power out of that engine you can swap crank shaft . You will have to get crank shaft from 4.2amc engine and the best part about that swap it fits with out any pain in the ass to your 4.0 connecting rods and block . If you do that you will get 300+ h.p. striker which will make your car run really quick and for sure you will need limited slip diff for rear axle because without it this thing will not have enough traction to utilize that power. But as is you have done very nice and clean job. Another thing I would recommend to install polyurethane trac bar bushing it will make huge difference in the way car responds to stirring wheel movement. It will feel mare like a spot car rather than a truck. Also what is that extended idle button does if you could enlighten me on that just curious if I should do it on mine 2001 xj.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the tips! I would love a 4.7 stroker in my next XJ build! The extended idle button was only on police model XJs. It grounds pin 12 in the PCM bumping idle up from 800 to 1000 rpms while in neutral and park. it allows for more water flow in the water pump and better charging on the alternator. great for winching and running accessories!
