That’s an excellent ranking. And what a supremely consistent and strong catalogue. I was very lucky in that Motorhead, Priest, Maiden, Saxon and Lizzy were regular visitors to my home town in the North East of England in the late 70s and early 80s. I saw Lizzy on the Black Rose, Renegade and Thunder & Lightning tours. I’m right with you on Fighting. For me I rank the top five as #1 Thunder & Lightning; #2 Fighting; #3 Jailbreak; #4 Black Rose (Róisín Dubh); and #5 Johnny the Fox.
Oh man, this would be tough to rank. Excellent!!! Just Excellent. My favorites are nightlife, vagabonds of the western world, Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox, Fighting, Chinatown, Renegade, Thunder and lightning, Black Rose and Bad reputation. 😂 That's cool you have so many physical copies. These guys were just the best 👌 I have about half their albums. Aiming for all of them. Thanks for the video 👍 (This would just be so difficult to rank. Maybe a top 50 favorite Lizzy songs. I could do that. Every album just so packed with quality material) cheers George ☕
i saw the later incarnation of Lizzy with John Sykes handling the vocals. It was good but Phil was badly missed. I would agree with those first three albums ranking at the bottom, they're not bad but not really what I want from Lizzy. Live And Dangerous will always be my go to Lizzy album but here's how I rank the studio albums.. 1. Thunder And Lightning 2. Chinatown 3. Jailbreak 4. Black Rose 5. Bad Reputation 6. Renegade 7. Fighting 8. Johnny The Fox 9. Nightlife 10.Vagabonds Of The Western World 11.Shades Of A Blue Orphanage 12.Thin Lizzy
Yep those are my two faves, as well. And im with you, George, i never got why Black Rose was so high in peoples lists, but to each his own. Great video, thanks!
Hi George!! Yes indeed, Thin Lizzy is a very underrated band and unfortunately only know by a couple of songs...... i got super to the party too, back in the early 80's i never heard of them and just discover them and their influence many years later. Right now i only have their 4th studio album, but i know i have to get the rest of their studio catalogue and the live one too. cheers and be well
Once you placed Black Rose near the bottom I was thrown for a knuckleball. Still, always interesting to see others’ perspective on large catalogues. Good work. 🤘 Mine would be: worst to first Shades of a Blue Nightlife Thunder and Lightning Thin Lizzy Vagabonds Jailbreak Bad Reputation Chinatown Renegade Johnny the Fox Black Rose Fighting.
Great video George! For the longest time, I only had the Dedication cd. before I started exploring the studio albums. You and I have similar thoughts on how we like these albums, although you like Renegade more than I do. I put mine into tiers, which I did at the end of February: 1. Jailbreak (1976) 2. Thunder and Lightning (1983) 3. Johnny the Fox (1976) 4. Fighting (1975) ----------------------------------------------- 5. Chinatown (1980) 6. Bad Reputation (1977) 7. Black Rose (1979) 8. Night Life (1974) ----------------------------------------------- 9. Renegade (1981) 10. Vagabonds of the Western World (1973) ----------------------------------------------- 11. Shades of a Blue Orphanage (1972) 12. S/T (1971)
Very interesting show, George. Thank you. I don't have much of them, to be honest. A 3-Disc Compilation called "Essential", the Super Deluxe Thingy for "Live and Dangerous", the other Live Album ("Life") and only 3 of their Studio Outputs ("Jailbreak", "Johnny the Fox" and "China Town"). At the time of this comment I'm looking forward to your insights on these Albums.
Oh, one correction. I do have "Thunder and Lightning". It's a recent addition and I've only heard it once at this point. Hence my forgetting it initially ... :D
Thank you. Live and Dangerous is a excellent live album one I acquired recently but a classic for sure. The life album I still need to get though. Cheers!
You really can't go wrong ranking any of their last 7 or 8 albums #1. They're that good. 1. Thunder and Lightning (1983) 2. Johnny The Fox (1976) 3. Jailbreak (1976) 4. Black Rose: A Rock Legend (1979) 5. Bad Reputation (1977) 6. Renegade (1981) 7. Fighting (1975) 8. Chinatown (1980) 9. Nightlife (1974) 10. Vagabonds of The Western World (1973) 11. Thin Lizzy (1971) 12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage (1972)
Great job, George! Just to let you know, I always use a blank black background on my thumbnails and then I put the poster or album cover over that.
Excellent video. Love me some Lzzy myself. 'Johnny the Fox' is probably my fave.
Can't go wrong with those mid to late 70's Lizzy albums! Thanks for watching!👍
Awesome Thin Lizzy ranking, George!
Thanks! Super underrated band!!
Such an overlooked and criminally underrated band.
Yes they definitely are! Thanks for watching!

Very cool you got to see Thin Lizzy, unfortunately I was too young at the time! Like your top 5 choices! Can't go wrong with any of them!👍

Yeah Black Rose is a still a good album it must be the Gary Moore thing about it!
Its a great album. I am not sure if it would be my number one, they have so many excellent albums. But it would be high in my own ranking.
