Music For Thought- Are Your Favorite Bands Still Your Favorites?!
Hi George!!! Always nice to see your latest updates and additions to the collection...... You have there some really cool stuff and alo a couple i must have give finally a try, keep hearing good things about Nevermore, but for some reasom i have not listen to them yet! i know the guitar player was also in Sanctuary another great band. I have that Accept cd, but need the last one too, Vader is a kind of Death Metal band i think i mught enjoy. cheers and be well
Definitely check out Nevermore really good and a bit different. The new Accept is very good and Vader is Death Metal but thrashy too check them out also. Thanks for watching Cristian!👍
Great update, I would like to get your input on diversifying my portfolio. Should I invest more into CD’s or just gamble with NYSE?😬😬😬 I still need to check out Running Wild 🤷♂️
Hahaha!!!!😂😂
Killer stuff G. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thanks Mark Happy Thanksgiving too you and your family!!
This is like Scott Waters and Brendan Snyder Voltroning up in one video :D Nice pick-ups too. I haven't really explored the more recent output by Suffocation and Vader (yet), buttheir old stuff is excellent. Running Wild's recent output after Rolf reactivated the band is pretty solid, but I do prefer their 80s and esrly 90s stuff.
Yes i agree the older Running Wild is still the best! Thanks for watching!
Great picks George. I bought the Casablanca Boxset for all the Angel CD'S. I had all them on vinyl. Their Live Album is so good!! I have all the Seven Witches CD's too. Solid Metal Guitar from Jack!! Can you recommend a Running Wild CD? I have never owned any of their music....
Thanks and absolutely for Running Wild Gates to Purgatory, Branded and Exiled, Under Jolly Roger, Port Royal. Death or Glory!
Excellent update George! Good to see Nevermore, Suffocation, Vader, Accept, and Running Wild.
Thanks Tony!👍🤘
Vader and Suffocation are excellent for sure. I have a soft spot for Angel also. Are you into Titanic? Robert Sweet from Stryper is on drums. Actually bought a different bands CD on eBay and the seller sent me a Titanic CD by accident and I liked it.
Cool! Never heard of them! I'll see if I can find it! Cheers!
Dan Lorenzo is from Hades/Non-Fiction. Are you a Hades fan?
I've heard you talk about them many times but I need to check them out!
Thanks for this video My favorite is Thundersteel What do you think about archives collection (CD+DVD) ?
I have a Riot live bootleg collection which is pretty cool but varies in sound quality. The one you mentioned i don't have
Great idea for post, George. Brandi Carlile (Americana counrtyish folky genre) has been quoted as " the first record is the easiest to write since have your whole life to write it, then the labels start to pressure you to write and record." Have a great Thanksgiving.
Very true! Thanks for watching and you have a Happy Thanksgiving as well!
Hi George!!! cool idea for a video and killer bands here..... i thin k you're right, all of those first records are very different from what those bands did before. Some came to mind as i read the video description, maybe you can add Deep Purple to the list?? I really like the first Priest album, it's still very 70's sounding. Yoi can also give an award Krokus for band with more music changes in there career, lol........ cheers and be well
Yes Purple is a perfect choice! So is the first Motorhead album! Thanks Cristian!
Great idea for a video George and there’s actually a few of these I haven’t heard
Maybe that's a good thing you haven't! Lol But seriously thanks for watching Marty!
Cool idea for a video. You hit all of the ones I thought of right away (Saxon, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy). Bands used to get a chance to find themselves after they were signed, and it is cool to hear that development. Cheers George!
Thanks Scott. I'm sure there are others I didn't mention too. Cheers!
Cool idea buddy, UFO was the first band that came to mind when I saw the title.
Yeah mine was that Alice Cooper album but they aren't all bad just different!
Thanks! Good to see a ranking by someone that knows the material. FYI: Rhett was victim of attempted car jacking on Techwood Drive in Atlanta Georgia. He refused to give up his car to a thug & was murdered January 1994. That road (Techwood Drive) was home to Techwood homes housing projects. The city tore them down pre Olympic games in Atlanta 1996. The street is now called "Centennial Olympic Boulevard" Rhett was Born in & now Buried in Tucker Georgia.
Wow I knew it was a crime but didn't realize the details. Great voice! Thanks for watching!
@@georgegsroomofrock9868 pleasure all mine.
Great video!! I completely agree with that Saxon. The first time I heard it, was very thrown off by it. But like you mentioned that it does have a few good tracks but very different
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it! They certainly found their sound quickly on the next few albums! Cheers!
I really like the first priest album. Its pretty good
Me too Sean. Still not sure I want the remix though. Hope you are feeling better!
Cool video! I also really like 'Rocka Rolla'; I even think it's better than 'Point of Entry'.
🤘👍
A cool concept & excellent picks. No complaints there, George.
Thanks Tony!🤘👍
I’d definitely be picking a lot of the same ones you did. I will never complete the Krokus discography, no need to own their first 3 albums, probably a couple on the mid to late 90’s that aren’t essential either. Marc Storace new album came out yesterday, it’s much better than his first solo album.
Yes I'm looking forward to hearing it, I hope it's better than his first one. Thanks as always Darcy!🤘👍
Heya George, nice concept, I've often thought of this before too...Saxon for sure...I called Accept before you started, it's a good album but definitely not what they'd become...Priest for sure, that's the first one I think of when I think of this subject...oh yes, the cult, i had that southern deathcult cd for a while, I actually bought it before I knew it was the Cult....I've still never heard those first 2 Helix albums, interesting personal note, Helix and Twisted sister were my first 2 hard rock bands....I absolutely love later Krokus albums, like Helix I have not heard the first 2...haven't heard the first 2 UFO records either, although I do own most of what came after...I've grown quite fond of the Scorpions debut....I know about those early Thin LIzzy albums, just have not heard them yet....oh yeah, those first couple Alice Cooper albums are strange.
Thanks Ron! I was thinking of the first Motorhead album especially the On Parole album. Thanks for watching and have a relaxing weekend Ron!👍
Blow Up Your Video sounds like Geordie 👍
I still buy CDs as my main physical format. Luv records too. However, many of them are just too damn much.
I have to be honest. I have to listen to that album more. Cheers G
Thanks Mark! Get on that Album my friend!
Man I love that Carcass album Surgical Steel. Fantastic comeback album by them. Cheers G
Yeah great album indeed!
Hi George!!! this is coming from a not big Kiss fan, but i think the "Killers" album, and some from the mid 80's album covers have to be some of the weakest in their catalogue. cheers and be well
I get it, nothing beats the original album covers! Thanks for watching Cristian!
Hi George!!! cool and tough task doing a ranking of a near perfect album, imo...... to me there are so many highlights like "Remember....", "Phamtom....." and Prowler a short and "simple" song that live still sounds amazing and i wish they would do now another cool instrumental like "Transylvania". cheers and be well
Thanks Cristian! Yeah it was a tough one to do but fun to do also. Thanks for watching!
Such a great ranking. Mine favorites pretty much line up with yours. I have Sanctuary an EP I think. I will look later.
🤘
My favorite would be Alive. Gives you the simplistic raw appearance of the band. Both the cover and its musical content compliment one another. However, there's one that you overlooked. The reissue of Creatures of the Night with Eric Carr, Bruce Kulick, Paul, and Gene without makeup. 😊
Those solo album covers are iconic, but that Destroyer album cover may be the best album cover ever!
Great ranking for a great album George. I just went to see them on the 12th in Baltimore. Those guys can still put on an amazing show!
Awesome I forgot you were going! Up The Irons!
2 that come to mind immediately, Fast as a Shark on Accept’s Restless & Wild and All We Are on Warlock’s Triumph & Agony. Great stuff as always George!
Great picks too Earl!
parece o Bussunda kkkkk
Cool! For me, and without Sanctuary: 1) Remember Tomorrow, 2) Prowler, 3) Strange World, 4) Phantom of the Opera, 5) Charlotte the Harlot, 6) Transylvania, 7) Iron Maiden, 8) Running Free
👍
Great ranking of the songs from Iron Maiden's debut George! I'd have to say my top 3 would be Phantom of the opera, Sanctuary and Transylvania. Iron Maiden is a great song, so is Remember tomorrow. Metallica did a fantastic version of it on the Hardwired bonus disc, that's actually where I heard the song for the first time! Are you gonna do Killers too? 😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yeah I'll do Killers at some point! Thanks Josh!
@georgegsroomofrock9868 Ah nice that's cool, nice one! You're welcome mate! 😁🤘🏻
Love the ranking!
You raise an interesting point when you were going through the booklet. What did Dennis Stratton do on the album? I've been familiar with the album for decades and you know what George, I'm not convinced he even ended up being recorded on it. The guitars on Killers pack more punch and to me that's when I hear the classic Maiden twin guitar sound for the first time. All the memorable guitar parts on the debut (e.g Prowler, Phantom, Transylvania, Strange World) - they really do all sound like classic Dave Murray to me. It wouldn't surprise me if Dave recorded both lead and rhythm parts and Stratton's contribution was minimal. He joined the band in the same month they recorded it, I do know for a fact that they wiped off what he recorded on Phantom of the Opera as they didn't like what he did.
That's a good question but I really don't know, it could be possible what you said is true.
Some excellent choices here George. With you on Love Is For Suckers, that's an underrated album. Great Dokken pick, Kiss of Death is a beast of a song. Cheers mate
Thanks! It was harder than I thought with this thread!
Never bad ranking for any songs on Iron Maiden-s/t record. Stone cold classic.
Thanks! All a matter of opinion!
@georgegsroomofrock9868 You know it, brother. Only thing not is last three words of my comment. ✌
Nice ranking there. I wouldn't even know where to begin if I were to rank the song on that album.
It's hard with such a great album! Thanks for watching!
Fun ranking George. Like you said no bad songs. I think I would have to put Phantom on top probably Remember Tomorrow second. Very hard to rank. I’ve seen the current Maiden lineup do a couple songs from the debut. Back in 2010 I saw Paul at the Stone Pony and he did the whole album including Sanctuary. Phantom of the Opera I’ve seen played by current Maiden, Paul solo and back in 2012 I went and saw Dennis at a pub north of London and he was so nice, they did an instrumental version of Phantom for me. So, never Clive but I did get to see the rest of the original lineup do Phantom. Thru Dennis I did get to go around to Clive’s house on that trip and visit with Clive and Mimi which was so great. Love all Iron Maiden but especially those Paul albums. Thanks for the vid Bud. Up The Irons!!!
You're very welcome my friend!👍
Cool ranking of Iron Maiden songs off of their debut, George.
Some great picks there, George. I'd like to mention two songs that were not only great album openers, they were barnstorming concert openers. From Twisted Sister, again, this time from Under the Blade and "What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)". My other one, and I know a lot folks don't like latter-day KISS with tommy and Eric, but "Modern Day Delilah" from Sonic Boom was a explosive opening to the shows in Europe on that tour. Cheers!
Thanks! Yeah What You Don't Know was always TS opening song. KISS Modern Day Delilah is an excellent song one of their best!
Original KISS Army kid from June '76. Ace Frehley rules! ⚡ Anyway, here's my Top 12 (or baker's dozen): 1. KISS ALIVE! 2. Dressed To Kill 3. Rock and Roll Over 4. KISS 5. Hotter Than Hell 6. Love Gun / ALIVE II (tie) 7. Dynasty 8. Destroyer 9. Creatures of The Night 10. Unmasked 11. The Elder 12. Lick it Up SOLO ALBUMS from '78: 1. ACE FREHLEY 🛸 (easily #1!) 2. PAUL STANLEY ⭐ 3. GENE SIMMONS 🦇 4. PETER CRISS 😼 Finally, I am so sick of hearing this inane, knee jerk opinion about the "production" on the first two classic KISS albums being "the reason"... BS! I can understand someone saying it about "Hotter Than Hell" (but for me, it absolutely adds the LP's character and dark, evil sound!), but when it comes to the debut, I think you're all on crack! The LP sounds great! Especially as a debut album. Yes, of course the songs sound better on ALIVE!, but I personally feel that this album's sound, feel and power is perfect! Each of the first 3 KISS albums are uniquely excellent in this way. What, do you all want them to sound the same? I love their own special qualities and then having them all go to another level on KISS ALIVE! M ⚡ p.s. I don't care about anything after Lick It Up. That's some other stupid hair band...not KISS. Asylum is a decent effort for the MTV crowd. I was 19 when that came out. I hated it. But over time, i appreciate it slightly more... for it's time. Feh... REVENGE is ridiculously overrated! To me, it's a one track album. "UNHOLY" is brilliant, but the rest of it is a who cares affair, with some songs (Domino, I Just Wanna, etc.) being cringe inducing. Saw them at a club show on that tour, with my soon to be wife. It was good. At least they didn't look like sequin'd drunken housewives, like they did in '85-'89.
Love your opinion bro. And you make valid points. Hotter Than Hell is their Sabbath album IMO. I got into them in 83 at 13 so I like the 80's stuff but I get where you're coming from. No one's opinion is wrong! Thanks for watching!
@georgegsroomofrock9868 Hey, thank you, George. Appreciate your kindness and respect. I get what you're saying about being born in 1970 (I'm a '66 kid). I actually think very highly of Creatures and Lick It Up. It's just after that, you know. Being an original KISS Army member, loving Ace Frehley, being inspired to become a good player in my own right, because of him, and just loving the original band! That ferocious, killer group that stunned and amazed us. When you get to the mid 80s...with that embarrassing hair band look, and Bruce Kulick, etc. it's just not the same band. And I do actually feel bad for kids who were simply born too late to experience that original fantastic group, and the 1970s in general. Because, you know, you're always gonna like the shit from your childhood. And for me, the original KISS, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, T Rex, AC/DC, ZAPPA, etc , etc. plus the 1970s itself...the films, everything was so f****** great! But I understand. Marc ⚡
@CathyLahn Much respect too your views and excellent musical taste!!👍
Great response to Tom's thread George! Some really cool picks like AC/DC, Ozzy, Maiden and Sodom. I'd definitely agree with Hells bells being the best from Back in black. Nice one 😁🤘🏻
Thanks Josh!
@georgegsroomofrock9868 You're welcome mate! 😁🤘🏻
Nice picks there. :) Lots of great opening tracks for sure.
Thanks Kim!
Hi George!!! killer response to this very popular thread..... That was the first AC/DC album i ever heard and "Hells Bells" as an opening track is a great statement. Always loved Dokken's "Back...." first song and yes the lyric theme is(was) very "serious" back then. Ratt's "You're in Love" riff is so wicked and catchy at the same time..... hahaha, just watched Jurgen response video and he also showed that Sodom record. Man i need to get Mercyful Fates first two cds.... cheers and be well
Thanks Cristian! Yes definitely get those 2 Mercyful Fate albums! Total Bangers!
Great Response video George..excellent selection Kiss of Death is my favorite Dokken song, such a banger Excellent Video 🤘
Thanks Marry! Much appreciated!
I'm with you on over the mountain. I always loved it too
Thanks Sean!🤘
Great response to Thomas's thread, George! A lot of 80's goodness you chose! Good to see Twisted Sister, AC/DC, Dokken, Ozzy Osbourne and Iron Maiden.
Thanks Tony it was harder than you think!
