Thanks to you guys i am now gonna have to complete my Thin Lizzy collection. It's amazing to think that if Phil Lynott could have taken a wee rest. He would have seen how his discography is pure classic.I miss the guy so much.
For me, top 2 are Black Rose and Johnny the Fox. Bottom 2 are Thin Lizzy and Shades of a blue Orphanage Wild cards, Live and Dangerous (obviously) and Vagabonds of the Western World. Fantastic band!
Defintely
Exactly my picks!
My all time favourite band. Saw them 4 times. Black Rose, Chinatown, Renegade, and Thunder & Lightning tours. First one was 12 years old, had crap seats but one of the Glasgow Apollo's friendlier bouncers moved me and my pal into the 2nd row in the circle. Last show was mental, there was so many people outside they let them in and filled the aisles in the stalls. Bouncers were not letting people move forward at front of stage and Phil stopped, threatening to leave if they didn't leave the audience alone.
My favourites - Johnny The Fox and Fighting. Least - the exact same as Steven's. Wildcard - Vagabonds, not perfect but has some great stuff not least the title track and Little Girl In Bloom.
Probably because I’m a fellow Brit the Uk Connection has become my favourite Show on SOT and Favourite / Least Favourite is always the best content for a video, I’m sure this concept is a huge undertaking but I hope the guys continue this type of video. 🤟
I confess that Thin Lizzy is one of those bands where I only know the classic and most praised albums, I'll have to go and listen to their discography more thoroughly.
Yes you should😃
You won't regret it.
They are a very diverse band. Every album sounds different. If 1 doesnt appeal to you, another one might.
looking forward to this. only saw thin lizzy once on the jailbreak tour. great show. had the chance to meet phil and what a great guy. i went to a radio station where he was doing an interview and wanted him to sign my lizzy albums. he was somewhat shocked that i had the shades of a blue orphanage album as we were in philadelphia and didn't think fans here knew the early work. he graciously signed my albums and said if i brought them to the show he would have the guys sign them. i also had i think fighting and jailbreak. ( still have the albums). he also said he would give me one of his books of poetry. well since i worked at the theater where the show was i was able to get the albums backstage before the show and they were signed! sadly the book of poetry didn't appear but i am sure it was just and oversight etc. anyhow great memory of meeting phil and seeing the band back in the day.
Wow! You were very lucky.
I would have loved to have seen them live.
@malco49 - you, sir, are epic!!
Sounds like a pretty great day!
Rock on 🤘😎🤘 !
Wow, epic. Green with envy.
@@kcewing1 Same here.
Seen Thin Lizzy twice. Both times on the farewell tour. Glasgow Apollo and Reading Festival 1983. Those were the days.
Love this band. I would put their work up from 1973 through 1979 with any other band of that era regardless of genre.
Favorites:
1. Night Life (love their mellow side)
2. Jailbreak
3. Johnny the Fox
Least favorites:
1. Renegade
2. Shades of a Blue Orphanage
3. Thunder and Lightning
UK Tour '75 is absolutely fierce. Before this CD came out I thought Live and Dangerous was the ultimate Thin Lizzy live album...then I heard UK Tour '75 and was blown away. A bum note here and there, an out of pitch vocal is what you heard when you went to see these bands in concert...certainly when I went to concerts. I'm glad this CD finally got a little love.
Great show.
Love thin lizzy so much.
My favourite hard-rock band.
1. Fighting
2. Black Rose
3. Jailbreak
4. Johnny the Fox
5. Chinatown
6. Renegade
7. Thunder and Lightning
8. Vagabonds of the Western World
9. Nightlife
10. Bad Reputation
11. Thin Lizzy
12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage
Thank you for a great show guys! Love Thin Lizzy, saw them only once, on the Jailbreak tour, what a memory! Have to get the live album from 1975 tour.
Gotta say the band Brian Downey put together to carry on the Lizzy legacy is excellent.
My first concert Thin Lizzy 1981 Coventry Theatre 13 years old. Favourite album Black Rose
All time great band & discography - the later years have grown on me (especially the Sykes stuff) & the real early material with Eric Bell...Still for me nothing beats Black Rose due mainly to one Gary Moore, that's always my TL #1:
1. Black Rose (especially the expanded edition with add'l demos)
2. Chinatown & Fighting - very different bands but both great in their own way
3. Vagabonds Of The Western World & Nightlife
4. Jailbreak - the one I heard first (like many/probably most)
5. Bad Reputation
6. Thunder & Lightning
7. Renegade & Johnny The Fox
8. Shades Of A Blue Orphanage
9. Self-Titled
Others: At The BBC (wonderful set from '72 through the mid 80's), BBC Radio One Live, Boys Are Back In Town Live At The Sydney Opera House October 1978 (smokes - with Moore), Killers Live, Life Live, Live And Dangerous, Live Chicago, Still Dangerous (LIve At The Tower Theater), The Man And His Music Vol II, New Day (early 70's maxi single), One Night Only, The Peel Sessions, Rock Legends (great demos), Rockers, UK Tour '75, Whiskey in the Jar (early compilation)...Lynott's got some great solo albums with/without Grand Slam...Brian Robertson's solo Diamonds And Dirt is good...Black Star Riders have 4 very good albums & Wild Horses have a couple
Nice ranking, especially seeing Chinatown very high. I didn't like Johnny the Fox that much in the beginning, but the Live version of songs like the fast-paced "Massacre" on Live and Dangerous made me love the album.
Great fun ànd another bunch of awesome homework to do.. (the older studio album and the UK Live album) thanks guys
My two favorite albums are Chinatown and Renegade.
Great show as always guys. My 2nd sometime 3rd favourite band and I have to say I have the same picks as Pete pretty much for the same reasons. And Brian Downey has always been one of my favourite Drummers. Like the idea about a bad album cover show to.
I hate compilations but one of them called ""Dedication"" is a brilliant selection of the most significant songs by TH,over 25 tracks,If I am not mistaken.
Fun stream/show. My favourite Thin Lizzy album is a toss up between Jailbreak and Thunder And Lightning. Both albums represent distinct eras in the band's history. Today I'm going with Thunder And Lightning. John Sykes 🎸
They're my two favourite Thin Lizzy studio albums.
I love The Smiths, fantastic band. The Queen is Dead is probably my favorite 80's album. I recommend to listen to their music first, whole albums. REM was something different.
As for Thin Lizzy my favorite album is Bad Reputation. Second favorite is Chinatown. Least favorite first two.
Love this show. Thin Lizzy is a band that I always liked but never owned all the great albums they have. Thank you.
If I had to choose one Thin Lizzy album it would have Live and Dangerous, one of the greatest live albums ever recorded.
Sadly, a very underappreciated band.
I only have Jailbreak, Johnny The Fox, and Live and Dangerous (for shame). Enjoyed the discussion all the way around, good perspectives from everyone, now I have more to investigate.
Favorite:
Thunder & Lighting
Black Rose (A Rock Legend)
Least favorite:
Chinatown
Everything before Fighting
Wild card:
Live & Dangerous
Johnny The Fox
This is the best show on youtube
I really love renegade first of all for side one just awesome and angel of death is probably one of my top favorite thin Lizzy song and for the diversity of side 2 as well thunder and lightning is in second place and for wild card I'm going for Chinatown it's definitely a grower but once it does its a fantastic listen
1. Johnny the Fox
2. Fighting
...
11. Thin Lizzy
12. Shades of a Blue Orphanage
WC: Black Rose: A Rock Legend
That looks like the right answer to me. My Wild Card is "Chinatown" though.
@@frank.s.castro My 'wild card' has always been Nightlife (which I've come to like a lot), the first lineup to feature Gorham/Robertson (plus Gary Moore/Frankie Miller)
Pete’s face when Steven put Thunder and Lightning in his least favourites. Priceless! 😂
Re: Thunder and Lightning.
The cover may be rubbish, but the music is some of their best.
It's one of my favourite of their albums and
I happen to like their heavier sound.
Great video guys! I haven`t had the chance to play through my collection so I won`t list my favourites etc but just to say the last time I played `Chinatown` I really enjoyed it and also `Night Life` I enjoyed more than I was expecting. NL is a bit different and has a fairly smooth sound to my ears though that might be something to do with the remastering?
Great show and possibly the greatest band I saw live, 4 times 1975-77 in the Robbo-Gorham era. Just fantastic. I helped their crew load in once, at Cambridge, sat in for soundcheck and got to very briefly meet Phil. Fantastic band.. Jailbreak for me, no.1 album.
Great show...I was fortunate to see Thin Lizzy 4 times live...and yes they were outstanding everytime. I agree Lizzy do not haveca bad album. Renegade is also up there for me..however Jailbreak & Johnny the fox are my top 2...followed closely by Fighting. Excellent topic guys..very enjoyable...Thin Lizzy were a great band 👍
Very enjoyable show guys
It’s about his daughter, I believe, who was born around that time. His widow is Caroline Crowther whose father was the late Leslie.
Fighting.
Black Rose.
Thin Lizzy.
Johnny the Fox.
Renegade.
Vagabonds of the Western World.
Chinatown.
Jailbreak.
Nightlife.
Bad Reputation.
Shades of a Blue Orphanage.
Thunder and Lightning.
Twelve years ago I got the "Black Rose" tattooed on my right shoulder in tribute to Gary & Philip, just a day before what would have been Philip's birthday.
1- Fighting
2- Johnny The Fox
3- Vagabonds Of The Western World
4- Thin Lizzy
5- Thunder And Lightning
6- Jailbreak
7- Renegade
8- Black Rose
9- Chinatown
10- Bad Reputation
11- Nightlife
12- Shades If A Blue Orphanage
My list is so idd, arranged by how many songs i like per album, its weird because some of my favorite songs are on lower scoring albums. For example , there isnt 1 song i dont enjoy on the Fighting album, but the song Nightlife from the album Nightlife is one of my favorite all time Lizzy songs.
Favorites :
- Jailbreak
- Live & Dangerous
Had to put L & D, I go to that album all the time when I need some top notch versions of TL classics.
My number one is always going to be Johnny the Fox as this was my first Lizzy album and Robbo's solo on Don't Believe a Word....Fantastic. I'm going to have a "Pull a Simon" with my second choice Bad Reputation/Jailbreak. My least favorite is Thunder and Lightning. I've tried soooo many times to like it. I just can't
I was gutted that I missed out on live and dangerous box set .I was unaware of live U.K. 75 and had a look on Amazon while watching this show.I noticed that there were a few copy’s of live and dangerous avalable and picked one up for £81 .I’d get in quick steven as there’s still a few left
Great band ... great catalogue ... Renegade is top for me .... N.B. for info 8CD Live and Dangerous set has been re released given demand .... it's available now ... certainly in UK, at original price .... CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland
Winger - favourites, least favourites and wild card would be a banger 😀
I my area in Kentucky i hear three Lizzy songs on classic radio. Of course there's the two obvious Boys are back and Jailbreak and the other is Cowboy song.
strong beer again Pete... ' the final albums that should have stayed final.. right? "Well, they were" LOL
What I meant, was that the band perhaps shouldn't have bothered....
My top 2 Thin Lizzy albums are Black Rose and Jailbreak. Jailbreak is kind of a given; great production, great songs, and one of the greatest closing tracks of all time. Black Rose isn’t as clear a choice for favorite, but it has a few things going for it. I love Gary Moore so his playing on this album is a big plus for me, and I think every single song on it is at least an 8/10, with songs like “With Love,” “Róisín Dubh,” “S&M,” and “Waiting for an Alibi” pushing 10/10’s.
My bottom 2 Lizzy albums are Nightlife and Thunder & Lightning. Now I don’t dislike either of these albums, they just appeal to me the least of the studio Lizzy catalog. Thunder & Lightning is a great, heavy, metallic album… but it’s not what I really want from Thin Lizzy. I love the first half of the album (“Thunder & Lightning,” “This is the One,” “The Sun Goes Down,” and “The Holy War”), with “The Holy War” being a top 10 Lizzy song for me. But the second half of the album is not fantastic in my opinion. “Bad Habits” and “Heart Attack” in particular are probably both in my bottom 10 Lizzy songs because one is a bit too Pop Metal and the other is very dark and depressing in a way that just reminds me of Phil’s death. And Nightlife is just kind of directionless and again, it doesn’t really feel like a Thin Lizzy album. There’s not a lot of memorable material from Nightlife in my opinion, but “Philomena” is a phenomenal song that often brings a tear to my eye.
My wildcard is Vagabonds of the Western World. My god, what an album! And it never gets the recognition it deserves. I’m a sucker for power trios, so Thin Lizzy’s time as a power trio is one of my favorite eras of the band. I love Phil’s more aggressive, gravely vocal tone and Eric Bell’s bluesy, rocking’ leads. “Mama Nature Said” kicks the album off and really brings the hard rock sound into the band for the first time. “The Hero and the Madman” follows, starting with a fun, silly little narration of a story (“…and by way of, uh, rope ladder, he tippy-toed up to where his woman was!”), and goes into a Psych-Blues Rock song with a great solo. “Slow Blues” is a cool little funk rock track, and it’s followed up by “The Rocker,” a powerful song that showed Lizzy’s heavier side. The title track starts side two, and it’s my favorite song on the album. I love the way the song builds until it explodes at the end with four different lead parts playing at the same time-three vocal leads, plus a guitar solo on top of it all. “Little Girl in Bloom” mellows the album back down and “I’m Gonna Creep Up On You” is another cool, funky song. And “A Song for While I’m Away” is a sweet, heartfelt little tune that beautifully closes the album. Honestly, Vagabonds could be my favorite Thin Lizzy album on any given day, but it was just easier to list it as my wildcard today.
Great show again guys. Cheers, Graeme 🍻
John Norum’s cover of Wild One is one of the best cover songs I’ve ever heard. I heard it in 87 before I was into Thin Lizzy and and made me want to check out Thin Lizzy. Thanks John. That’s a great show idea. ‘Cover song that introduced you to a band that you now love but didn’t know until you heard a cover of their song’. On this or on Friday with Martin.
I would struggle with picking a favourite album but what I would say Lizzy are like Queen in that their deep cuts are better than their hits. Also agree with Pete, Emerald is Lizzy’s best song. Love it!!!
Live and dangerous is a masterpiece
Just listening to the live and dangerous box set.
Great show! I'm always happy to see a show on one of my top three bands of all time :)
Johnny the Fox and Black Rose are my favorites today. Renegade is just behind and sometimes I like it best. It's an album that grew on me. One I really don't like much is Thunder and Lightning. Lizzy going metal is definitely not what I want from them. Totally agree with Steven on this one.
A dark horse pick, but I can't deny that for years my absolute go-to favourite album is Bad Reputation.
The thing about live albums back in the 70s was not that there were mistakes on it but the sound was usually as muffled as if they had been recorded from the toilet with the door shut.
Least favorite to favorite:
12) Thin Lizzy (debut)
11) Shades of a Blue Orphanage
10) Vagabonds of the Western World
9) Nightlife
8) Johnny the Fox
7) Fighting
6) Chinatown
5) Renegade
4) Bad Reputation
3) Jailbreak
2) Black Rose
1) Thunder and Lightning
I think Steven bought the Hula Hula beer as he thought it said Bula Bula, and we all know how much he loves that Quo album, right Steven?🙂
I loved the "Rocker" for many year's!!!🌠
My top 2: Thunder and Lightning and Johnny The Fox.
Bottom 2: Shades of a Blue Orphanage and the debut (these are the least developed).
Wild cards: Black Rose and Renegade.
Our "two sip take".
I've been listening to rock and heavy metal for 40 years, but only know about 3 Thin Lizzy songs.
Maybe I'll start now !
I even bought the last REM album in their catalog last week !
What! No mention of Bad Reputation? Brilliant album .
I mentioned it.
If I could have seen one tour in my life, it would be Queen/Thin Lizzy 1977.
Favorite Thin Lizzy albums
1 Johnny The Fox
2. Chinatown
Least favorite
Black Rose
Bad Reputation
Wild Card : Vagabonds of The Western World
Funny. Gary Moore once said Bad Reputation was his favorite Thin Lizzy album.
this is a spicy take
@@user-wh9wo5tz3l Musicians aren't always the best judges of music (especially their own) - they're just too close to it. IMO Bad Rep is a very solid album, in the middle of the TL pack for me...
@@wolf1977 Gary loved Scott's playing on it. Gorham played almost all the guitar on the album. Brian Robertson was only credited on three tracks. He cut his hand in a bar fight and couldnt play on it.
Least favorite:
1) Thin Lizzy (debut)
2) Shades of a Blue Orphanage
Favorites
1) Thunder and Lightning
2) Black Rose
WC;
Live/Life
I have that early compilation on CD first Lizzy album I bought, the full length version of Rocker is awesone.
Great show as ever gents.
My choices would be:
Favourites: "Jailbreak" and "Johnny the Fox"
Least Favourites: "Shades of a Blue Orphanage" and "Thunder and Lightning"
Wildcard: "Renegade"
Hi guys checkout Brian Downeys alive and dangerous band and the lead singer, doesn’t try to be Phil but definitely has some of his pulling power, thanks Pete I just ordered thin lizzy uk tour, I have never heard it before
Be interesting to know what you guys think of Phil's solo output.
" Whether it's Centigrade or Fahrenheit , we'll let you know if it's good or shite!".
Great episode again. My two favourite, Thunder and lightning - Johnny the fox. My least, the first two. Wild card would be Chinatown.
Vagabonds is simply superb early Lizzy
Bad reputation is my fave seconded by Thunder and lightning
But its fair to say Jailbreak , Fighting ,Black rose and Chinatown are truly great albums
were looking forward for this episode with you lot, as i was expecting a rather varied result, and being one of THOSE bands, which as you did do a very fine way of explaining; had quite a musical journey throughout their existence, and before i forget it, YES Pete, i have thought about how cool wouldn't it have been to REDISCOVER one of you're all time fave bands that you've been listening to 30 years or more, BUT then again, as i am, albeit a purist, i do have a VERY eclectic taste in music, although metal n' punk came first (well, actually '60's rock n' roll AND Kraftwerk, i was born into the music industry, so it's hard to not remember a time before music, with the exception of classic American cars/hot rodding, and said music, was still my choices, but before i FOUND my path/style so to speak) BUT as your last RANT were all about, IAM that guy who STILL am looking for the best new (or old/forgotten album/band i haven't heard yet) release/band i haven't heard yet, which i think was very, as always, WELL explained/put by the man who refuses to sit down while appearing on S.O.T., Jamie, so i wouldn't have time for that, but yes, i great thought, the closest i'll get to being nostalgic, and when it comes to MY ranking, well i "have" to go for the "lazy" route to pick my least 2 fave albums, now i haven't even heard them all, not from start to finish, but that mix and MOSTLY due to that bluesy heavy rock style of songs is NOT my thing, i do like old blues with John Lee Hooker being my all time fave, whose guitar style is like NO one else, and yes Eric Bell were a great guitarist indeed, but still, i will join Pete and his choices for my 2 least fave Lizzy albums, now as for my 2 fave albums, well as you said; they started by Fighting!, as in the European cover artwork depicts and, well, i'm still indifferent about their 2 last albums, though, i'm also undecided, mainly concerning that album with the brilliant album cover, though, Renegade isn't the coolest cover either, BUT, although Chinatown, Johnny The Fox and Jailbreak are ALL great contenders, specially Johnny and Chinatown for my top 2, but, i usually end up with; Bad Reputation and Blue Rose (fun fact; Midge Ure did help them out on that tour, although you obviously knew that) and i can very much relate to some of darker lyrics that Phil writes concerning what he has to give up, as i did manage to do just that, having been a former heroin addict, but still clean since summer of 2005 🙂BUT that's not my reason for loving these 2 albums the most, i just tend to put them on the most, throughout the years, my go to albums and yes my 2 fave's, as for my wildcard...hm...21 Guns...hehe no, not my cup of tea, but although i DO love going to gigs i was never a live album fan, and Lizzy are one of those bands who did one of THOSE live albums with Alive And Dangerous, so i guess that would be it for me, as it's a DAMN fine live album (probably fixed up in the studio as they mostly are, but wahtev's, right) and oh, liking your new ranking the beers to, you have NO idea how you tempt me with your fancy ale's, so I DO like that opening part of The UK Connection 🙂 and one more thing, yup; R.E.M sure did some amazing albums, specially in the later part of their career, from New Adventures...to Reveal, although they do have some golden tracks/releases from day one AND one more thing; The Smiths are one of my ALL time fave bands
I totally agree, Simon! Renegade IS the best Thin Lizzy album!
I didn't start at teh beginning and logically/chronologically work forward, but the first album was one I deliberately checked out very early on (for me, that'd be early 2000s). THey weren't really on the radio here and I knew mostly a couple of songs from Jailbreak. Also listened to, I think, live and Dangerous once at an older person's apartment. I always am intrigued by the beginnings of things so I thought getting familiar with the first album as my first real Lizzy album experience made sense. And I have no regrets. To this day "Return of the Farmer's Son" is one of the first songs that pops into my head when one mentions the band's name. yeah, the album isn't characteristic, I suppose, but I really like it. Now I'm pretty familiar with most of the albums. I like Renegade more than many seem to and Thunder and Lightning less. But they're all pretty awesome if you really get down to it.
Is Steven smoking a splif? Thunder and lightning? Think it’s one of the best.
To commemorate the spooky season, today's beverage:
'Dead Guy Ale' from Rogue Ale, brewed in the style of a German malbock, has a deep honey color 6.8% abv.
Only ever had 'Black Rose: A Rock Legend'. Was the one that would come out when hanging out with friends after a few sips and puffs. The cover art is a top 10 for me.
Cheers🍻
My two favorite Thin Lizzy albums are Black Rose and Thunder & Lightning
My two least favorites are Shades Of A Blue Orphanage and Nightlife
My wildcard is Still Dangerous it’s the more raw version of Live & Dangerous
Interesting picks. I like Renegade, too but Angel of Death stylistically does not fit to the rest, so the record has a weird start to set the mood for the album. Still some stellar tracks. My favorite is Black Rose.
It's unfair to rate all the albums together. I rate it this way, by eras. Eric Bell Era: Vagabonds of the Western World, Thin Lizzy then Shades of a Blue Orphanage. Classic Era: Fighting, Bad Reputation, Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox. Nightlife is a transition album that doesn't really fit with anything else that they did. Post Robbo: Black Rose, Chinatown, Thunder and Lightning and Renegade. If I have to choose two favorites it would be Fighting and Vagabonds of the Western World. Two least favorites are Shades of a Blue Orphanage and Renegade. My favorite era is the Eric Bell era. I can understand why many don't connect with their earlier music but once you do, you're hooked. There were many years where those early songs were all that I listened to. I still haven't heard any live music that I've connected with. I fell in love with the studio albums before I heard anything live and I never adjusted. I became a fan when Jailbreak was released in 1976. I hunted down all their older albums in record shops in many different places over many years. Since there was no Wikipedia back then, I had no clue what I was even hunting for. The last older studio album I picked up was Nightlife after I'd seen them open for Queen in 1977. They played Still in Love With You, It's Only Money and Sha La La and I'd never heard them before. I recently found out that Gary Moore had played at the show that I saw instead of Brian Roberston. Anyway, they've been my favorite band for almost 50 years now. Here's to all of you still listening, with whatever preferences you may have.
Great episode! Good job gents. Fighting and Bad Reputation are my favorites. I'm with you Steven, not a huge fan of Thunder & Lightning.
Can't watch this tonight unfortunately but I'm liking the vid already as its Thin Lizzy. Top 5 band for me. Black Rose and Fighting are my favs. Will watch tomorrow obvs
Im far from an expert, but as a wild card option i would just say not to overlook the first couple of albums, particularly if you like late 60s bluesy guitar stuff. Its not amazing but dare I say a little underrated?
My two favorites are Jailbreak and Nightlife. Jailbreak speaks for itself. Nightlife is picked because of it’s additional R&B vibe. I’m probably more of an R&B fan than most Classic Rock folks.
Least favorites are any two of the first three albums. They just don’t hit me the way the latter catalogue does. Also, not the biggest fan of Johnny The Fox. Soooooo many love that album but it’s always been a head scratcher for me. Just about every other Lizzy album tops it.
Great discussion!
I'm doing my picks before I watch. Bare in mind that I actually really like all of these albums. There's so many great songs on each of them! (Phil Lynott=genius)
My 2 least favorite: Thin Lizzy & Shades of a Blue Orphanage (With a little trimming in the arrangements, these are classic Thin Lizzy albums. As they are, they're collections of diamonds in the rough.)
My 2 Favorites:----->Nightlife (I've adored it from the first. Just part of my DNA now), Jailbreak (The deep cuts are all so good!) Honorable Mention: Fighting
Wild Card!:------------>The Peel Sessions (I've spent as much time listening to it as any of the Lizzy studio albums and probably twice as many times as any of the umpteen compilation albums I've got in the collection.)
If I'm being completely honest, My favorites is more of a top 8 that aren't separated by much more than sentimental value. Love these Favorite & Least Favorite episodes! I wish there was a way for you guys to get together on them more often but, I understand the limitations of juggling the day job with family time and a pet project. I had a 60 hour a week day job, four kids and a band at the same time about fourteen years ago. It only lasted about a year. The family and the day job were too important to go on with the band. It was fun while it lasted ;^}
I’d pick.
Favourites
Thunder & Lightning
Bad Reputation
Least Favourites
Shades of a Blue Orphanage
Thin Lizzy
Wild Cards
Solo In Soho
Back On The Streets
My three faves-Bad Reputation,Renegade & Vagabonds of the Western World
Least favourites-Johnny The Fox,Shades of a Blue Orphanage & Thunder & Lightning
Wild Cards-Thin Lizzy & Nightlife
A much missed band.
Top 2. Jailbreak. Black Rose
Bottom. First two
Wildcard: tower theatre
Obviously L&D tops them all
2 Favourites: Thunder and Lightning and Bad reputation
2 Least favourites: The first two
"Yeah your right" Brian Downey is such a "Tasteful musical player, he can play any style,, Ian Paice and Brian, were my inspiration to play drums, Ian and Brian have both created music history, not many Drummers achieve that!".. Nearly Forgot"", "Fighting", "Jailbreak"", another great show" Cheers ,", listening , Here in "Newcastle Upon Tyne UK. Lizzy used to play our "City Hall, two nights, most years, a great sound live, well mixed,
Very good show 😊
The rocker and little girl in bloom make vagabonds worth the price of admission alone.
I saw the band on the Thunder and Lightning tour, although things were clearly a grind (although as a young chap I didn't realise it - which is how good they were). As Simon and Stephen will testify being a rock fan in the UK in the late 70's and 80's was pretty much akin to being a social outcast. The "elite" who decided what was cool always knew how talented Phil Lynott was but couldn't bring themselves to admit it. As great as the Lizzy "mainstream rock" catalogue is the depth of material and lyrical content is much under-rated. A great band in every sense.
Top two Lizzy Albums for me are
The Black Rose & Bad Reputation
Least favourite
Thin lizzy & Renegade
Wild card
A four disc set Vagabonds, kings, warriors,Angel's has some cool b.sives and solo stuff
I love Renegade too Simon! Johnny the Fox is my fav.
Least fav the first
Favorite two Jailbreak and Black Rose, two least favs Shades Of The Blue Orphanage, and the wildcard is Renagade.
I'm completely with you Steven on Thunder & Lightning! When I went through the Lizzy catalogue last year for the the first time and ended with that record, it honestly did nothing for me cause it's sounds like a completely different band playing and not what I expected or wanted out of their sound!
Fave: Fighting & Jailbreak
Least: Thin Lizzy & Shades (only ones i don't own)
Wildcard: Renegade
But their best is of course Live and Dangerous
Wildcard Nightlife
I know you don't hear it often but i like that album.
Great show. My all time favorite band. Tough choices. Faves change weekly for me. I’ll go with fighting and black rose today. Least favorites, clear number one is Shades of a Blue Orphanage. I’d say the only actually bad album the ever made. And the second would be Night Life, although I don’t dislike it at all. My wild card is Live and Dangerous because it is my favorite album of ALL time. Period.
2 favorite: Fighting & Black Rose
2 least: Shades & Thunder and Lightning
wild card: The live album is obvious, and I think the first album is very good if a different style, but I’m going with Nightlife. Not as cohesive as an album, but the songs are as good as later releases.
First album to feature Gorham/Robertson so important for that reason, and nice contributions by Gary Moore & Frankie Miller. As you said some really wonderful songs
Yeah the first album is well worth a listen. Shades is a step down in quality but the debut definitely has some appeal
who knows funky junction play a tribute to deep purple,bell/downey/lynott and some singer, doing purple covers, couple of originals.its pretty good, they did it for a bit of cash early days, was on mfp records,1 pound from woolworths back in the day
