This here folks, is proof that groove is far more important than sheer technical skills. "I can play blast beats at 180 BPM" Chad smith walks in ""but can you groove?" mic drops.
Don't get me wrong, I'd certainly say that groove and sound are more important than any other aspect of a drummer's playing, but for metal, power, creativity and speed are also incredibly important, and the blast beat is, when used by the right drummer, (look up Eloy Casagrande playing the song 'Last Time', or Derek Roddy during his audition for Dream Theater) far more than just an exercise. Also, if you really want your conceptions of speed smashed, watch the video of George Kollias going from 200-280bpm while remaining clean and controlled the whole time.
Yeah, it all depends on context. If you want to play extreme metal, playing blast beats at 180 bpm is going to be a lot more useful than low to mid-tempo swung grooves a la Bonham.
Chad is to rushed noisy and ahead of himself - one of those guys that likes to hear himself only sounds decent with the Peppers- like Carmine Appice - John was big because he laid back behind the beat and listened to his band mates - no one will ever capture the spirit of John Bonham
maltman36 if they were awfull they wouldn't have been successful, and that's why so many people still like the chili peppers cause of they're good music, just because you say they suck or that it's a bad band it doesn't mean it's true
From 5:43 on until the end Chad turns the heat up and goes totally Bonzo on those beautiful acrylics. Thanks Bonzo Bash for one more year of props being paid to the legend who is Mr. John Bonham!!!
No offense to Chad but this shows how much greater Bonzo was than even the top drummers from today. The dynamics, the feel, the groove and the power Bonzo had will never be equaled. JHB the greatest drummer ever!
Saw them at MetLife. On thing really stood out was how I actually felt the drums. I mean the physical vibration in the air hit me in the chest hard. Blown away.
I thought he did better with Achilles Last Stand, he doesn't go aggressive enough with the tom fills here. The one thing he does nail is the bass drum, which was one of Bonzo's great tricks.
Man I used to really hate Chad smith as a drummer but I’ve really come to think a whole lot of him in the last few years !!! He’s not just a bashing maniac he’s truly an artist an I’m lovin it !!!
Chad nailed it! Listen to the bass drum. His use of cymbals. Also very important to hit the drums right. Chad played what I call heavy handed which is similar to Bonhams style.
Bloody good!! Most of the bonzo event vids I've seen can be pretty crap shoot. The one with Carmine Appice is really bad! But then again, I'm unsure if the drummers who do play rehearse with the band or not.
He fucking dances in the drum kit. Love Chad's groove.
Wonderful analogy

The loose playing combined with the tightness of those little fills and barks, masterfull.
Chad really captured the spirit, really nice!

@@gilsky3314 who are you?
Nothing new. Chad Smith remains on of the best drummers in the world, ever! Those thunderous fills! And the best Will Ferrell cover as well :-)
He's one the few big names that pulls of bonzo style.
he's a post-punk Bonham clone. He was hatched in a lab using Bonham's DNA and Will Ferrel's Mom as a host
monokhem Well it seems like u have to come up with some bullshit so u can just have a different opinion
what is 'too cute by half'?... is THAT engrish?
He actually plays on a similar set up like bonzo
This has nothing to do with John’s style of play.
Bonham could feel the drums, Chad just pounding into the drum without much sense
Chad Smith is the epitome of groove
One of the best behind the traps. So much of a shame he plays in a shit band.
maltman36 WHAAAAAAT?!?!?!
Great drummer. Shit band. Flea, great bass player shit band. Anthony woeful..
maltman36 if they were awfull they wouldn't have been successful, and that's why so many people still like the chili peppers cause of they're good music, just because you say they suck or that it's a bad band it doesn't mean it's true
I would say Chad Smith and Jean Paul Gaster are my favorite modern rock groove drummers.
Nailed it. The licks, the groove, the slowing of the tempo...Mr Smith is obviously a massive fan!
Bonzo would be absolutely proud of every drummer's interpretations of his drum work. Chad Smith remains one of my all time favorite drummers!🥁🥁
From 5:43 on until the end Chad turns the heat up and goes totally Bonzo on those beautiful acrylics. Thanks Bonzo Bash for one more year of props being paid to the legend who is Mr. John Bonham!!!

There is only one Chad Smith !!!!!!!! Master Class
Great Chad feel to a classic Bonham sound
DAMN! Those drums kick ass! They just boom and blast!
Chad's killing this! He's a huge Zeppelin fan.
You can tell that he's winging it at times. Is he going to pull off the fill or flounder? The suspense is compelling.
Part of the adventure.
Fuxking nails it!!! Probably my favourite Zep tracks of all time. Where's the Speedking squeak though?
Chad's so much fun to watch play, his groove just flows through the whole room.
What an amazing drummer
O CHAD ONCEMORE KILLING IT LIVE . LOVE YOU MAN ! TARA AND PETER TAMPA

2:42 is an Easter Egg. Chad Smith is a top tier player. His dynamics on the hi hat and the fluidity of his movements around the kit are beautiful.
Wow! I love Chad and I love this song. Amazing. Thank you for posting this! 👏🏻👏🏻🥁
Nelíbilo. Smith do toho akorát mlátí a hudba, výraz, melodika se tím vytrácí !!
No offense to Chad but this shows how much greater Bonzo was than even the top drummers from today. The dynamics, the feel, the groove and the power Bonzo had will never be equaled. JHB the greatest drummer ever!
Chad kills it! Great job.
Those cymbals seems to owe Chad some money
Nice feel, nice hi-hat work. Best groove drummer in rock.

Fabulous.
I thought he did better with Achilles Last Stand, he doesn't go aggressive enough with the tom fills here. The one thing he does nail is the bass drum, which was one of Bonzo's great tricks.

Chad's got the groove goin' on.
Magnificent
F***n A! Had the spirit of the man himself! !
Man I used to really hate Chad smith as a drummer but I’ve really come to think a whole lot of him in the last few years !!! He’s not just a bashing maniac he’s truly an artist an I’m lovin it !!!
He has more groove than any modern drummer honestly. Check out the last samurai from the last chili peppers record and you will be impressed
Посмотрев почти все видео и имея такую возможность сравнивать понимаешь на сколько Джон Бонэм был талантливийшим барабанщиком!
Best drummer in Bonzo Bash
That groove is tasty!
Wow!!the groove, that's it right there!!!Chad has always been a groove master!!!
Good job Chad 🤘
Killed it!!
That was amazing. I am just getting into Chad's playing (not really a fan of RHCP) and WOW is he great.
One of the few reasons I enjoyed the RHCP show I went to haha
Chad nailed it! Listen to the bass drum. His use of cymbals. Also very important to hit the drums right. Chad played what I call heavy handed which is similar to Bonhams style.
Bloody good!! Most of the bonzo event vids I've seen can be pretty crap shoot. The one with Carmine Appice is really bad! But then again, I'm unsure if the drummers who do play rehearse with the band or not.
Is that bill Burr at the end???

When drumming in the Bonzo style, please make sure your hat fits snugly
🧢🥁📀💎📀 Chad was the hat clear back in the *Toby ReDD* he always was in every room in the 444 Madison Avenue playing some *Physical Graffiti*
Could anybody tell me,which Paiste 2002 Version of the cymbals (size and Model e.g. Powerride) was used? 😊
No alive drummer could do this as best as Chad
Very close in spirit to the master.
This is fucking amazing
"Felling "should be his second name.
Ademas de dave lombardo este chico me fascina como toca la batería .

SIK!!!
Is that Sebastian Bach on vocals?
Nice one Chad.
